I have never seen the original show and thus have absolutely no nostalgia for this...and I still think this looks freaking awesome!
X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!

Love how close to the old series it looks. Love they kept Ororo's classic look but added her mohawk,
To quote Kaiolino
@Kaiolino said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:
This is such garbage. I’m tired of dinosaurs obsessed with their childhood having such a big influence on this property.
It’s like I get it’s an iconic look but come on. Not to mention if she already had that hairstyle in the days of future pasts 2 parter. Granted that timeline was erased but still.
@Satsuki said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:
But I'm not gonna lie, that Gambit and Wolverine combo was pretty badass.
Wonder how the people that bitched about Wolverine getting heated claws in the comics a few years ago are taking this.

It's her best hairstyle. Current one a close second. OG straight good but not much woomp for Ororo. This are objective facts that can't be argued.
-
Hence why I said “I get it’s an iconic look”.
I just hate it personally. There’s also the fact it’s dated both and outside of the series.
-
That final group shot is definitely CG, no idea why everything else is so stilted, especially after they streamlined the designs to allow for better animation.
Some cool moments in there. Gambit lighting up Wolvie's claws, hearing that Rogue voice again, uh... that's about it really.
They'd already used basically every major story in the comics up to the point the old show ended, will this just be a hitlist of what's happened in the 30 years since?
-
The implication of the showrunner’s interviews (and combative interactions with comic book fans on twitter) imply they will adapt more ‘80s and ‘90s stories.
-

The Adversary Saga? Those Old Racist Supes Raven recruits? Dracula stuff? -

The Adversary Saga? Those Old Racist Supes Raven recruits? Dracula stuff? It looks like they’re doing Inferno for the first season. Probably something like Operation Zero Tolerance for the second season.

God Please tell me that Maddie existed in the original and preago Jean is not carrying Nate.

……………….um ummmmm

When people literally don’t realize they have the same motive and are saying the same thing as the villains portrayed in the comic books
-
I tempered my expectations, fearing I won't like it. And I don't like it.
I LOVE it! Drama. Drama. Drama! I wanted it, X-Men '97 delivered. I still have to get use to some of the voices sounding differently, and I'm not too crazy about the art (Good 2-D animation beats faux 2-D computer animation any day of the week) but as long as the story stays good, I'm all in.
-
@Nectar
Good for you.
I don't plan to watch because I find the the recently fired creator has some shit ass opinions about X topics. -
Understandable. Although, I have no idea what he said. I just read a couple articles saying he was fired for unknown reason(s).
-
Not this series getting praised for inventive animation???? and fresh ideas????? (They’re adapting plotlines from 30-40 years ago????)

@Nectar said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:

Probably the same reason he was booted out of the Witcher writing room, he's an abusive ass.
And aside from the things Kaiolino commented he has a very narrow view of what is good X-story or what is the X-canon. -
Well then, makes sense he was fired. But, I still don't know his views on the X-stories, not that it matters much since he's not at Marvel anymore. And like Kaiolino said, the show is mostly an adaption of the comics.

Probably coming from folks who don't realize the show has always adapted X-Comics storylines.

The first two episodes were really really fun.
A bit more mature than I expected it to be. I only watched a couple of episodes as a kid, so I'm not really invested in the original.
But, my god, I absolutely squealed in delight, when Storm, "omega level threat" showed off her awesome power.
Lol, in the face of such kind of overwhelming power, I don't blame humans for building stuff like sentries and mutant power suppresors.
Cyclops is also surprisingly pretty cool. I like that he uses his powers creatively. To be honest, I thought all he could do was shoot laser eyes. But they are making him really versatile with it.
Magneto is also really fucking in awesome. Especially in the second episode. Man, he is going to make such a fascinating character in the long run. Torn between living up to Charles' dream and protecting his people.
(Also his arrest scene was just...chef's kiss
What is the difference between Morph and Mystique??Lastly, my gawd, Rogue is SUPER HOT. Damn, I enjoyed it everytime she was onscreen. It also helps that so far, she's come across as the most mature and grounded person out of the whole group.
I really loved the office scene, Hope it ends up in some spicy melodrama between the three. Lawd, I already can't wait for those 3 perfomers to go at it. All their VAs are killing it.

I prefer the acetate version to this weird 2D filter over 3D models.

I feel that what Kaiolino said is something the fired guy said.@Nectar said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:
But, I still don't know his views on the X-stories,
He is an outspoken hater of the Krakao era, he doesn't like Emma Frost, can't even call him a Claremont purist because he probably gravitates more to the 92 cartoon lore than the comics.

That’s fine just saying this wasn’t all that great looking in 1992. But hey it’s still better looking than the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon.

Agreed. I was thinking good 2-D animation in general.

Give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised how well it keeps the ball rolling as if the show never ended.

I wonder how much of the comics he's actually read? Emma Frost has a lot of die-hard fans. I didn't know much about her except from the show until I read Astonishing X-Men (I love that run, despite being written by the problematic Joss Whedon). It made me an instant fan. She's such a complex and interesting character. I hope we see her in the show at some point.
-
Okay, these clips of Cyclops being a total badass does make me intrigued.
-
This post is deleted!
-
I'll admit, pretty cool. Cyclops' powers always work better in animation than live action.
-
Plus the live action movies(except for maybe the first two) have continuously portrayed them as heat beams, instead of a concussive blast.
-
Sooooo...I watched the first two episodes.
The animation is bad for nostalgia sake.
Well they nailed Beto's personality. I've to give it to them. -
Finished watching the first three episodes. Not gonna pretend I'm the biggest fan of the X-Men fan in the world, but I think this is a lot of fun so far.
The animation is a bit hit-and-miss. It tends to stumble on close-ups of the characters, but the action scenes are amazing.
-
I am really liking Morph's sense of humor
I had no idea an X-man like this existed(I only know the movies, and the high school xmen cartoon)
So far, he's my favorite, I tad overpowered, but he's hilarious, and I just adore that no one, so far, is catching feelings from his jokes.
After watching the latest episode, I appreciate that the show pretty much resolved what could have been a multi-episode arc in one episode.
But still, it feels like too much happened in too short a time.I just hope they expand a little bit on the fallout, because it would be really super weird of cyclops and jean just...went back to the normal old life. I don't know.
Its also weird that clone jean or goblin queen, just lets her child go like that. Cyclops too. I understand real jean..its not her baby, but the 2 parents just fuck off??
I haven't read the comics, but it seems like its setting up for Logan to get the real Jean and Cyclops the clone?
One last thing, is the Xavier Institute not a school anymore? It just seems like a home where the X-men chill. But its super weird because you have mutants living in literal sewers.
I like Magneto's idea of building an island for them. You know, why can't mutants just do that, go to remote island and just build their own tiny little nation. We know from the real world, no one really fucks with tribes/people who choose to isolate themselves.
The mutants have all the power and resources to do this. -

No, but a bunch of writers insist in write them as a love triangle. Poor Maddie (aka the Clone) can have Scott's brother if she's lucky.

No one runs from familial responsibilities like a Summer. No one.

In name is has always been an "Institute for the Gifted Youngsters" aka a fancy intern private school. In reality it has very little time been an actual learning facility.

X-book editorials looking at this sweet summer child.

Hey now Cable was a good provider to his future son in the original cartoon who showed up for for like 3 minutes over two episodes and was never seen again.
-
Well shit I guess Summers shooting one another runs in the family.
-
There a line in the first episode from Cyclopes saying they should set an example as teachers/staff but for who? There're no students there except for Jubilee and Roberto.
Agree Morph needs more love. I love their personality and wonder how much of their humor comes from covering trauma. Also, I think the Goblin Queen was taunting Morph about possibly not yet coming out to the team as non-binary. Interested in seeing where that goes.
-
I'm having a blast with it, just don't think too hard and have fun with some nice animation moments. the Goblin Queen Vs Magneto was quite good, I like how dinamic it all went.
My major criticism would be that they are running TOO MUCH with the story. Every episode could have been 3-4 episodes easily...
-
I'm not really digging the show, they're just speeding through stories and throwing out random character development with zero build up or subtelty and just going TOO fast. ... (storm has known Forge for 10 seconds and he's in love with her? Jubilee and Sunspot? Heck, it started with not-Jean being nine months pregnant!)
The original series rushed stuff too but they still gave Phoenix saga like 10 episodes, an entire second season dedicated to teh Sinister/Morph stuff, etc. Doing Inferno in 20 minutes? And baby Nathan being sent to the future? ANd this new episode with Jubilee was full of cute jokes but utterly bonkers nonsense.
but props to whoevers storyboarding the action scenes. First Cyclops get to shine with actual concussive blasts rather than heat beams and now (a) Jubilee gets to actually do some cool stuff. Iit took them 30 years to actually do something interesting with Jubilee's powers.
Of course she can do sparky sparks at her feet to make energy roller skates. Neat. It even fits her vibe to be roller blading and I can't believe no one added that to her repetoire decades ago.
-
@Robby said in X-Men The Animated Series is being revived!:

Perfectly realistic imo.
But yes, they seem to go too fast for their own good. -
The two 15-minute parts threw me off at bit. Wasn't expecting that.
I liked the Jubilee part but they hit episode's message of Jubilee needing to grow-up over our heads a little too much. That and Mojo's voice wasn't hyper/over-the-top enough. Wasn't awful but I hope the voice actor is directed to chew the scenery more in future appearances.I was more confused than anything with Storm's part. Didn't know what was happening. Still, Forge looked good in booty shorts.
-
Yup, the series is doing nothing for me.
-
Logan x Jean stocks are down (Thank |A| for that). A lots of cameos here.
For a guy that hates the Krakoa era, Mr. De Mayo sure exploited is Erik's dream.
And with Cable interacting with Maddie...I wonder did it ever happened in the comics? -
If it did Dark Web might’ve never happened .
-
Well that was an episode with a lot of big impactful moments and huge internal conflicts and sacrifices and...
none of it did anything for me.
Is the show just really, REALLY assuming you very recently rewatched the entire original series and are already super attached to all these characters, or it is just going so fast with zero time to breathe so absolutely none of it sets in or has any weight? Because there were a lot of moments that should have felt something, big epic heart crushing moments and hero sacrifices and badass moments and... none of them landed for me.
The motions are there but the emotions aren't.
-
this episode was soooooo sick, even though it's fast paced as hell. It somehow managed to express a lot of the despair Rogue and Magneto went through...
whole internet is chugging it down, and receiving it very well. awesome stuff, really.
