Woli will do a half pike salto over Martinez while somehow raining perfect jabs down on him, then maybe he'll do a handstand and box with his feet. Oh that Woli is so whacky, barf.
Hajime no Ippo

Yeah, MMA fighter or gymnast, that should have been Woli.
@Seafarer33 said in Hajime no Ippo:
Hey, it's no small feat to dedicate two whole chapters to the beginning of the match with nothing whatsoever happening.
In all seriousness I'm kinda new to Ricardo fights - just read the one - so even if it's Woli I'm looking forward to what comes next.
Also, please, please let Ippo knock someone out with his chair throwRead Date vs. Ricardo. It's the first Ricardo fight, and it's one of the best in the series.
-
I feel like the chapter was good, it just needs to be the only chapter of the fight set up this way. I'm hoping that Morikawa intends on having the match over by #1,400, though, as that would be as good a time as any to have Ippo decide to unretire.
-
@Satsuki will do that, thanks
-
Well, I suppose "unorthodox" is one way to go about it:
https://mangasee123.com/read-online/Hajime-No-Ippo-chapter-1394.html -
Going by his reaction I'm really curious what Sendo actually did to get an actual down on Ricardo. Or did he just trip?
-
It’s really fallen off for me :/ tbh
-
-
We all just want to get this Woli match over with.
-
-
Yeah. Also I find myself wanting Ricardo to pin down Woli in mid-run, a one-hit ko Luffy vs Bellamy style. One chapter is all it took... T_T
-
If Woli actually gives Ricardo a down I will cry.
-
Who knows, perhaps the entire point of this will be to make Ricardo even stronger. Did we have a chapter that explains how lonely he feels at the top because he never show his Machismo as all his matches were what he considered a dull affair. This might be the one that unleashes the beast in him.
-
Date had gotten him to release, if not the "beast", at least the pure fighter under his technician. But I guess he hasn't had a fight he enjoyed since Date.
-
Well, this surely will give him a different experience that anything he's had before. So I guess he can get some enjoyment out of it.
-
Yes running haymakers, truly the pinnacle of boxing
-
Leave the poor ref alone, Woli.
https://mangasee123.com/read-online/Hajime-No-Ippo-chapter-1395.htmlWoli used to be a cutie, now he's fucking annoying.
-
I wholeheartadly agree with Sendo's statement on the last page. Just stop wasting everyone's time Morikawa. This chapter is insulting in both lenght and content. And to top if off we get a break next week. This miserable excuse for a chapter already felt like a break.
-
Right, that does it, I do hate Woli after all. Roadrunner punch last week was borderline ridiculous, but "vanishing" by hiding behind the ref is a new low and as you say, the last part is downright insulting. Now I really, really, really want Ricardo to do a one-hit-ko.
-
Somebody should also one-hit-KO his coach for being smug about this nonesense. I take him as proxy for Morikawa who must be thinking to him self "this is really good stuff right now".
-
If this fight doesn't end with anything less than Ricardo permanently retiring Woli, I will be very upset.
-
Gasp he's doing the legendary behind the back counter that can't be blocked. Down goes Ricardo. Final battle will be fought in space with mecha woli
-
Fights like these I always feel the most sorry for the refs who have to deal with this kind of shit.

This is a coach who never actually trains his fighters and just lets them do whatever, does he really count as a coach?
-
Should Takamura be a lot more confortable financially as a multiple world champion? Same question for the gym.
-
Takamura wastes all his money on various stupidities. Not sure for the gym, but only Takamura's winnings, and previously Ippo's, were getting them good money. The idiot trio don't rake in as much cash.
-
Every character's financial situation is ridiculous. Miyata works as a cashier. Mashiba is a truck driver while fighting for world titles and selling out arenas. You can only stretch the "they are bad with money" or, in the case of Kamogawa gym, "they take a pay cut to lure opponents to Japan" thing so far.
However, the moment you acknowledge it for any fighter, the whole drama of Ippo's fishing boat business is gone. So as a reader, you kinda have to roll with it.
I'm just puzzled that Alfredo Gonzalez got the "nice suits and fancy cars" treatment. Would seem like something you reserve for champions to have Takamura be the only weird aberration you have to "explain".

Miyata does puzzle me too. At least with Mashiba I can reason that he is so volatile and has such a terrible track record of sportsmanship (might give your fighter non-proper boxing injuries) that its easy to make him take a massive financial cut in order to be allowed to fight those high profile fighters. But I have no idea how Miyata cant pay a nice a appartment and live off his earnings. They definitely should have some endorsements.
-
Miyata seems too prideful to do anything like endorsements. Mashiba I can see never doing endorsements because he'd be incapable of dealing with people like marketing agencies. A little surprised Sendo hasn't though.

It's easy to believe with Takamura, because he is always that dumb with anything not involved with boxing.
-
Wally, will you leave the poor ref alone?!
-
Getting insight into Ricardo's mood is so fun. It's really nice seeing him be so...quaint.
-
@Satsuki said in Hajime no Ippo:

If I was the ref I would have bitch slapped that dude by now.
-
Someone please put me out of my misery and end this match. It really is painful to watch Mr World Champion dumbfounded over monkey acrobatics...
-
I bet in Japan they think Woli is great.
Oh look his island muscles let him make like a hien but it's like an impossible hien and then it probably hits harder than a normal one too because of tarzan stuff. Barf
-
I hate this. Wally somehow embodies the anti-thesis to everything I like about the series.
-
Well, at least the main protagonist has done something productive, right? Honestly, we waste time with this stupid fight and have the main protagonist continue to look like a retard for being totally exhausted to not have messed up putting a chair at the proper place. Much better then just getting him back in the ring.
-
I swear, between this, the retirement and the chair antics...Moritaka seems hell-bent on running his series into the ground.
Dammit, if Hippo is meant to stay a coach and not pick back up the gloves, timeskip the hell out of this bore! Let's see him a few years down the road with promising new blood that he trained himself. The current situation is downright painful to watch.
-
That's exactly what I've been saying. It's not so much the retirement respectively the coaching aspect that is the problem. The problem is that it just sucks because either Ippo is being treated like the most retarded protagonist in manga history and we don't see him doing any real coaching with his two stooges in the first place. They are just plot devices to explain why HE is actually still in top form. And then when we don't focus on Ippo we get this. I just hope that after Ricardo finally knocks some sense into this monkey those wrestler brothers will actually convince Wall-E to move to the wrestling world where he and his hack of a coach belong.
-
The chair gag was probably the highlight of the chapter for me so i can't co-sign that criticism. But i can get behind the either shit or get of the pot mentality regarding the whole half-assed coach bit. It's getting a bit long in the tooth
-
@Ivotas said in Hajime no Ippo:

I kinda disagree. The Mashiba fight was decent, the Volg fight was sweet and to the point. Unless you say, those fights also focused on Ippo.
The only silver lining I see with this Wally nonsense, is that Ippo wasn't a total idiot with how he handled his Wally fight. But that's not a retcon I needed.
-
@wolfwood
Oh it definitely is a the highlight of the chapter which pretty much shows what a trainwreck of a chapter it was if if we have to consider braindead Ippo to be something to look forward too.@NightGrinder said in Hajime no Ippo:

Oh, those fights were good but whenever Ippo was shown there he seemed like a mentally challenged idiot. Remember in the Mashiba fight were we ended with an idiotic look on his fight cliffhanger making us believe he is shocked at Mashiba cheating? Turns out he just looked like an idiot because apparently shouting words of support during a live boxing match is something to be get super nervous about.
Or how about the Volg fight where he went "he's kinda stiff, I wonder if something happened to him". One might think that a worrywart like Ippo would be the first one to think "oh-oh, did I perhaps cause this with my punch yesterday?". But nope, turns out Ippo is not clueless to anything outside of the boxright but apparently also to things inside the same.
-
Actually I was looking forward to another chair gag, but all I got from this instead is sweaty Ippo behaving like a moron. I dunno, he could have misplaced it and Wally sprains his ankle on landing. Or throw the damn chair at him, that'll teach him to somersault all over the place.

Yeah, that's another thing. In the Kimura fight he at least messed up with made Takamura laugh to his hearts content. But here he actually didn't mess it even up. He just looked like an idiot. How far has the manga fallen if this is the actual highlight of the chapter?
-

Fair enough. Hopefully, there is a point to him being a second in this fight rather than hanging out with Sendo and Volg.

I'm sure that all of this "learning experience" will tie in to his comeback in one way or the other. But damn is it a slog to watch.
-
I've been loving the coaching arc. I do think that after this match it's probably time for Ippo to go back to fighting, though.
-
Half a chapter is out.
These last two chapters have been comedy gold. -
Fuck you Morikawa. This chapter if you can even call it that is down right insulting.
However I give credit where credit is due. This chapter makes a strong case why manga should be pirated as no one should pay for reading shit like this.
-
That was awfully short, is the author ill or something? I mean not that i get much from jungle boy flailing around, but at this pace we'll never get past the oh ah gasp part of this fight
-

Agreed. It seems like we're missing half the pages, but even then all we would be getting is apparently more of "oh my, how agile and great and cool is Wally's monkey boxing." Barf -_-
For god's sake Morikawa, put an end to it already !
