I think he did. If he did, that was boring.
He's sendo's disciple. So Im sure he tanked a punch no one think he could tank.

Yeah, the end is ambiguous. Kinda silly if the whole point of dedicating a chapter to this Imai fight was for it to end after, like, 3 pages ? If Hoshi doesn't get back up next chapter, what was that even for ?
Not that I give a damn about anything that's currently happening, though. All I want at the moment is to see what will become of Ippo.
I mean its probably because Im salty from what I consider a stupid ending to the Alfredo match but I would very much like if he just went down because just tough it up is a stupid strategy. And also I enjoy Imai. Not every fight need to massive ordeal. And I wouldnt say 2 chapters is exactly a lot of screentime.
Ah, don't mind me. I'm probably reacting like this because I picked up Ippo quite late and never read the entire story, so there are a number of characters who are nobodies in my perspective. Which includes Imai and Sendo's sidekick, unfortunately.
We do agree on the "tough it up" strategy, though.
Eh, after all the time spent on what happens when "toughing it out" fails and you have to retire for medical reasons i can't really be to mad that Sendo won by having been born with a bigger set of balls than that Mexican Sendo.

But he was mexican Sendo with technique and strategy on top of it.

Well another way to look at it is if the fight is over we can go back to our main cast.
I probably like Imai because I hate Itagaki a lot so Im always cheering for the rival he is so petty to.
Imai is a perfectly good character (if a little dull right now). Itagaki was a better character when he was still a noob.
Since the sharigan he's been a pain. I used to dream of Miyata getting a random match against him and torching the entitled cocky brat. But considering how the tournament I cant even be sure what would happen.
I still remember one of Itagaki's first pro bouts, when tried to call the ref's attention to something while the match was still in play,
like it was just a sparring session, and he got knocked down + beaten.
He complained to Ippo after the match about how "unfair" it was,
and I still cringe thinking about it.
Really loved the way Ippo put him in his place and told him that he disgraced himself out there,
that it was entirely his own fault and that he needed to take boxing more seriously.
Sadly Itagaki hasn't gone on any interesting roads since then.
I used to despise Itagaki with burning passion and Imai vs Itagaki is one of series finest moments and source of great satisfaction.
Recently though I have been slightly worried about Itagaki, I thought he would be humbled and less cocky and take his future matches with more dignity but instead he devolved to Aokimura level of comic relief and cemented his status as a member of a 'loser trio'.
I think he needs to get a grip and get a good look at mirror.
Aoki and Kimura are funny one reason because they are both super talented and skilled on almost everything else except boxing… I guess that is one of reason why they love it so much because its so hard for them.

It was pretty damn easy to act like badasses in high school until they got their asses jumped. Or in Aoki’s case attempting to punch above his weight.
Thankfully not a one-hit KO fight:

Actually interested to see where this is going.
Same here : a welcome turn of events compared to how it looked like last chapter. I'm still not invested in the fight, but at least I'm entertained.
Its funny how the chapter point out Imai should be able to clean him out with technique but we are doing the annoying Sendo thing of lets just slug it out. But without the actual fight that usually come before it devolves to that.
So this basically this chapter consists of panels that show the same thing moment from different perspectives right. I know I've not been really psitive with this series lately but it's hard when the latest amount of matches all seemed to be lacking sometging. And unlike Alf vs Sendo or Dragon vs Takamura this one isn't even interesting on the paper. Perhaps ignoring the terrible filler contact from now on and focusing that energy more on the actual boxing would help, no?
Will Imai's pride get the best of him? Or is it even pride?
https://mangasee123.com/read-online/Hajime-No-Ippo-chapter-1356.html
Feeling the intensity of this.
Might actually be interesting if Imai has to learn a lesson from this.
He took down an overconfident Itagaki,
so maybe it's his turn to be overconfident and humbled.
Unless he's still somehow going to pull it off before the first bell.
I'm curious to see where this goes, but 2 chapters of straight slugfest is a bit much - even Hoshi seems aware that this is not how top boxing is supposed to go. How about we shed some light on why the champion is doing this to himself ?
This is freaking stupid. There's no reason Imai would suddenly forget his boxing for a guy he has no history with. And its not even from built up frustration in an intense match. It's Imai decided slugfest is what he wants even tho he's never been Sendo in all the time we've seen him.
Just imagine if this is the build up to a stupid joke.
When the match is over, he rushes out of the ring.
People assume he's simply going to the medic bay on foot, but he dashes straight for the bathroom.
He put himself through that slugfest to hurry things up because he was bursting for the crapper.
Could be a dick joke where he accidentally saw Hoshi's and decided that if he couldnt beat him in size he had to be the bigger man by punching harder then him.
That's pure Takamura.

He’s turning into Ippo.
Imai needs to get over himself.

So the 3 chapter (1 round) fight was just another excuse to pull zippo back in? Cmon
Well Imai destroyed Hoshi by the end so thats fine. I always appreciated Imai desire to actually challenge his idols instead of just live in their shadows like Hishi and Itagaki did. And Sendo has always been a loud mouth so someone being loud at him doesnt bother me.
If anything I'm surprised Sendo was being such a nice guy to an opponent that beat someone from of his gym. Doesnt seem very Sendo to me. Sending the kid packing because he has more important matches does.
Imai beat Hoshi fair and square in a slugging match. That's something Sendo respects.
Hoshi got Hayami’ed.
I really felt it when Hoshi finally buckled after that blow to the ribs.
Great emphasis with the black background. What an expression on his face.
Ricardo may have said he would fight Sendo, but his manager didn't:
https://mangasee123.com/read-online/Hajime-No-Ippo-chapter-1358.html
I remember Wally has the intro to fight feeling too supernatural for my taste and being freaking ridiculous while Ricardo style is fairly standard. I dont like the broken promise aspect since I like to imagine Martinez as a man of his word but I'd be lying if I said I'm not interested in how this fight would play out (Not the result which is Ricardo of course but the actual fight). If its not just Ricardo winning because Wolly knows nothing it could be fascinating.
The most unconventional vs the most experienced. Thats an interesting premise. More interesting then Sendo coming at him with "spirit" and slugging and somehow doing better then everyone before.
I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this
The person at fault here might be his trainer/manager, Bill. Sendo smashed up one of his other fighters, he might not want him even scratching Ricardo.
I dont care about the specific excuse. I dont like having Martinez fail his words as a boxer.
I'm the same camp of being disappointed but so far I'm not blaming Martinez. If he however doesn't clearly state that he doesn't like being taken out of a promise between men during the conference I would definitely say that his character has been tainted.
It's a bit lame that Martinez can't even keep a simple promise.
And Wally match was the single closest point i came to dropping this manga.
So i guess it can't be worse than before? Always something
I like where this is going. I don't think Sendo would be able to do much than being glorified punching bag for 3-6 rounds.
I am interested to see how Woli has developed as Boxer and character, he has to because he was kind of one trick pony being extreme outboxer.
Tricks however don't work on Martinez and once his hits robs Wolis mobility fight will be wrapped up.
But still it will be more interesting than seeing how much punishment Sendo can take.
The promise was made in front of reporters and the announcer repeated at the Sendo match. And he never fights people rank lower then 1. Martinez is very publicly running away. And that has to look worse for the pride macho man image then having a hard match. So for that to happen his team must have no faith on him and he must also have no control over them.

I get that the Woli fight wasn’t exactly most loved but the Gedo fight was definitely the worse fight from that stretch.

I'm one of those outliers who thought Gedoh and the old spider net guy were super entertaining. Their "magic" was really just messing with peoples perceptions and had a riddle to solve. Wolis superhuman mary sueing was just straight garbage to my eyes
When you’ve seen the bullshit that Takamura has and still does in the later parts of the manga and what Miyata did in the fight with Randy, Woli’s BS is basically a drop in the bucket.
I also would’ve said the Take fight was dumb but I largely tuned that one out. Ippo getting outmatched by a scrub at this point in the manga was one of many case studies of how badly Morikawa had Ippo regress.
Could someone refresh my memory again on why exactly the Wolly fight is this much disliked by the fandom? I just remember that I didn't particularly like it much but as with most fights I've forgotten most of it.^^'

Woli never fought, but he's naturally better than all other boxers, can use all boxing moves perfectly on instinct, he flips and somersaults around the ring and changes direction mid-air by vine swinging on the ropes while Ippo is absolutely powerless to do any thing to the jungle mary sue, then the story asspulls some he touched his ribs lightly enough to make a miracle ending. It is inserting superpowers into a (somewhat) grounded boxing manga in a way i just don't care for. It's like a shit version of Taka versus Hawk, except those were actual characters with grounding in something resembling reality.
I'm hoping the entire point of bringing this guy back is to see him get destroyed.
Like, none of his acrobatics faze the champ and he gets put on his ass.
To show that the champ is prepared for almost anything.
Having a hard time envisioning another scenario in which this comeback serves anything.

Except for the fact that Hawk had the same problem of being someone that barely trained yet could beat ass because of instinct. And then winds up destitute and crazy cause he got his ass kicked in one fight.
And then we have the sappy bullshit of Kamogawa and the others holding up Takamura when he was about to go down.
Oh, that's it? Can't say that bothered me much as natural born fighters being able to beat a trained fighter is totally something that happens in real life. Of course it doesn't happen on such a stage as with the Wolly fight. But then again mangas are caricatures and exaggerations of real life anyways which I take Wolly's fighting style to be. Especially with the added trait of animal like instincs. I mean doesn't every Tarzan story have him being stronger than ever other man in terms of physical feats? I know it never happened but if there'd be a Tarzan plotline where and athlete like an disc thrower or a runner would challange Tarzan because they consider him primitive Tarzan would beat them at their own game that's just how these stories go. Don't see how Wolly is any different.
If anything is more ridiculous it's Takamura beating a bear dead with his bare fists.

The old guy I kind of enjoy. Him and Date gave me that fighting youth with experience feeling which I enjoyed. And its easy for me to want to cheer for an old man because they have so few opportunities left. And he wasnt a dick.
I dont think I liked the Gedoh fight that much but I respected the hustle with the amount of tricks and strategies to drag the champion to a place where he might pull a win. His come to light moment about using traditional fight didnt work for me at all tho.
I think the Woli had too much superpowers but I still liked the kid by the end and Ippo winning because experience mattered a little. But Woli just seemed liked a pandora box of bs. Like there's no way that I can buy that someone with his powers wouldnt be champion if the world remotely make sense and he should be unstoppable. That shit was weird.
Woli and Gedoh I wasnt a fan. But I still hate Itagaki having a sharingan and pulling a Woli the most. Like I can accept that an experience fighter has learn tricks along the way that works for him or that jungle kid kid has that absurb style that Im not sure make any sense. There's some minimal grounding. But Itagaki just get superpowers just cause. And I have no idea why a random kid with traditional boxing should be able to beome Tarzan.

Its already weird to me that Sendoh is the first person to get a down from Martinez. Its gonna another level of me rolling my eyes if Martinez cleans out Wolly and has Sendoh bring him to the bring with his very straightforward and pretty much winging it approach.

Well the Woli fight was also a long one sided beatdown for most it with not much change of momentum. It wasnt both side adapting to each other and more Ippo constantly failing the whole time which help make it feel longer.
I mean to each their own, but i found Woli to be a ridiculous cartoon in a world that worked best when it at least pretended to be about boxing. Woli doing flips every move and flipping himself into making a smash by grabbing the ropes doesn't work for me, at all. But i guess i'll be the odd one out for this coming fight then.
I mean I dont like Woli style and I dont like Itagaki's weird time flow thing. Since they both seem more disconnected from the boxing presented in the manga then the rest.
But because Martinez is supposed to be equally perfect (aside from getting a down from a pretty basic boxer) It makes the concept interesting to me.Its like pairing Itagaki with Miyata. The important place of the opponent in the manga should limit the amount of bs to some level a make an humbling/interesting fight.
Speaking of ramdom fight Saeki and Itagaki was a pretty nice fight aside from the result. Well at least the first half until Itagaki did his usual I just need to disappear/power up instead of actually having a to make a strategy.
I'll probably be to busy barfing while Woli lands perfect heartbreak shots and does no tell jabs perfectly because all subtleties of boxing just come naturally to Woli. Oh he used a jolt counter and martinez goes down, Woli followed it up by making a flicker but each jab is actually a smash, no it's in fact a counter smash because Wolis inate bullshit makes him perfectly counter every jab martinez makes. Barf.
