Better to finish on your own terms than keep going aimlessly for years like Bleach and actually getting the axe. Horikoshi is simply not cut out for the kind of work a lot of people expect him to put out. The only thing we can do is speculate what could have been in the hands of a more capable author.
My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
-
-
Deku pulling the lone wolf thing because he believes the villains will harm his friend is really a strike against his character development and felt like standard shounen friendship drama.
I was so convinced that Jump will milk the shit out of Hero and the expectation to be the next Op will cause Hori to crash and burn so I'm glad (if we don't get a Shippuden) that this is the last arc on his own terms.
Seems like once OP ends it will truly be the end of an era and there's really no successor.
Not that I want there to be, not everyone need to burn half their life away to be another Oda. -
Don't series that get the axe often places low in the table of contents?
-
This is the most interesting this story has been for a long time now. I feel like I need to go ahead and read Vigilantes now, all in one go.
I still think there's a very small chance we'll see Koichi in the main series other than in a cameo, but I'd still recommend reading Vigilantes. Right now, the series is in it's final "season".
-
Pretty good chapter, the press conference was interesting, surprised that some people in-universe wanted Endeavor to lie and deny Dabi´s allegations even if they were the truth. Regarding the last part, I hope we get some flashbacks, because I was looking foward to see Deku and his classmates reunion after such a a heavy arc.
-
Kinda ironic how people were saying the confrontation with Shigaraki's faction was missplaced because Midoriya and his companions were still 1st years, and now the main protagonist leaves school forever, and others will soon follow suit.
No more school shenanigans, no more assignments or trips, no more school festivals and no more mundane and peaceful times. The "A" in My Hero Academia now feels it no longer bears any meaning.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
!
Now I wonder if this art is foreshadowing for the climax.
-
To those that still deny that Hori's confidence issues mess up with his writing sometimes:
-
Imposter syndrome is hell to fight against
-
Jump may not try to milk series as much with Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer selling like crazy while being considered a short series by today's standards. Not everything needs to be an epic adventure with a gigantic world like One Piece.
-
People like Oda are a rarity.
On the plus side, maybe Hori has yet to peak with his work. A success like this and a story finished on his own terms has to help build his confidence. Perhaps he saw his limitations and made the best decision. We can all regret the unfulfilled potential of MHA, but if it helps making Hori an even better author in the future, hell yes.
-
i don't know why people are complaining about this, the school stuff is easily the worst part of the manga. defeating AFO should be the end of the series rather than extending with random new villans.
-
I think people took the title of the chapter to hard, this is not the last ARC of the manga, but rather the last ACT of the manga.
The beginning to Kamino was Act 1
From Kamino to the War was Act 2
To Defeat AFO for good is Act 3. -
There isn't that much difference in essence. You don't announce a final act if you plan on adding multiple new directions to the plot.
-

That's the opposite of what I usually see. I for one really enjoy the school life part. I know a bunch of others do too.
On a side note. This series is one of the few that could benefit from a Shippuden kind of jump. If Hori isn't confident about the school life, the actual pro work could still be worth following.

To Defeat AFO for good is Act 3.I agree with this sentiment. One act can consist of many arcs. If you look at One Piece for instance act one goes from entering the Grand Line up to the time skip. That's almost 500 chapters of story. Not saying MHA will have such a long final act I feel people are panicking a bit too much here.

When the title of the manga has Academia on it and that is the worst part, something feels wrong.
-
Honestly I wanted to know more about hero studies and what they learn besides combat and rescue training. That could've been a great way to do exposition an go back and forth between what is been taught, and what s really happening with the villains.
-
I just feel like the lack of worldbuilding and hyperfocus on a few characters is bringing the potential of the series down a lot. No traitor storyline, not utilizing 95% of the students, it's all very … basic.
-
Large part of the charm of the school life part is seeing main character struggle and compete. Once said character starts growing into his man-bear-pig status, as Deku did, it's just not the same any more.
-
Am I the only one here who thinks Deku leaving is part of some plan by Toshinori and the top 3 heroes? He can't stay at U.A. while it's a shelter for civilians.
-
Hardly. Anything else would be silly. Nobody in their right mind would let Deku on his own without any support, being a key figure that he is now.
-
This is the most interesting Deku has been in years, hope it leads to something worthwhile. At any rate, I'm glad we're not going to be stuck at the school. Having all the civilians move in there had me worried for a bit.
-
To the final act? It's like it's getting axed ffs…
Damn, are we really headed into the final act?
Keep in mind Naruto and Bleach's "final acts" lasted like five years. And we just spent about a solid year on one big fight for the midpoint.
Final Act doesn't mean all that much unless the author really wants to be done.
2024 will be the 10th anniversary so maybe he'll stick with it till then. Thats enough time to do one more big arc and build up to big finale stakes again.
-
Yeah, Gintama's final act took 4 years and Naruto's was a third of the whole series so all it really means is that MHA is past the half-way point.
-
hahah
! I took Deku quitting the school for him to start wearing his mask/cowl.
-
Wait is the series ending soon?
-
Vigilantes 98
! So how many of the black blobs got refurbished for High Ends?

! Funny you say that since their mouths look similar to the Bomber monsters. I guess they're Bomber 2.0s.
! Even worse, looks like No. 6 has at least one new quirk. He's gonna be a real handful to stop now, but at least Tsukauchi might pull his head out from his butt and call off the Crawler Hunt. -

! He's gonna screw things up before he does something useful. He's too much of a goody-two shoes too try not to safe the status quo face over the vigilantes issue.

The way I figure, it means that table is set with the characters and their plotlines and not a lot of new and/or interesting developments will occur. Otherwise, there's no point calling it a final act, other than generating hype.
As fun as Naruto and Bleach final acts were at times, they are more an example of how not to do things, so I hope it doesn't stretch too long, lol.
-
Wait is the series ending soon?
The latest chapter declares we're now in "The Final Act". Added to how… kind of final the previous arc was, we're in the homestretch now. But "soon" is debatable. It might still be a few years.

Seeing Deku being called a mass murdered in MHA´s fox news is hilarious, the puppy face photo is the cherry on top. That aside, it seems they are gonna fight some kind of sect, maybe one that idolizes the shining child?
Also, I haven´t seen the new season episode, but as usual the ed is good while the op is weak. Still hoping that MVA´s arc gets a nice opening, dunno about what the ed could be about though.

ROUND 2. FIGHT.
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1008930MOVIE SUMMARY
Yo Hori, your Rev. Stryker is showing.
-
I find pretty funny that Shindou´s fans reward was to see him getting destroyed by Muscular, wondering who would have taken his place otherwise. Also surprised by how fast the cities turned into zombies series settings, like damn.
About Deku vs Muscular rematch, I am really looking foward to it, but I also hope we get an explanation on how the hell is Deku moving his limps around after the war arc.
-
These anti-hero people kinda remind me of anti-vaxxers. Shooting themselves in the foot.
-
Looks like Ms. Joke survived the last arc. Nice.
Deku taking down Muscular without destroying his limbs will be a great way to show just how far he's come.
-
At this point he can destroy Muscular's limbs this time around.
Gotta have the big payback. -
It seems that MHA is on break this week, a unscheduled though, hoping that Hori is doing well.
In other news, the character´s pages for the latest volume are pretty damn good.
!
! Aye Aye Tomura is my favorite. -
Shame it's on break. Means there's not going to be any discussion so no one is going to see Green Naruto as a name replacement.
-
We all knew All Mighty was the GOAT.
-
Bakugo as an angry chihuaha is something that I didn't know I needed.
-
All Might is the funniest because in Japanese they also say "Oh My God" from English as オーマイゴッド (or オーマイガー) whereas All Might's new name is オールマイゴート All Migh-goat.
Also I didn't know what Shigaraki was. Where is his tail if he is an aye-aye?
-
Bakugo as an angry chihuaha is something that I didn't know I needed.
It really fits considering his bad temperament is all bark and no bite.
As is Dabi being an envious snake towards Todoroki.

What's the name of AFO's theme in the anime?

Vigilantes 99
! Good ol' divide and conquer, get's them every time.

-Vig Talk-
At first I was expecting explosions and stuff but this way is much smarter. Now, the only people who can stop No. 6 are the ones currently in Naruhata. And, I just love everyone in Naruhata thinking The Crawler is a legit hero.
I'm guessing KD made the hospital wing automatically go into lockdown if external power is cut.
