Am I the only one who absolutely loves Neo??? Idk why I like this character so much, but I do
so ummm two questions
! 1. Does Mercury not have a semblance? cause that's what it sounded like in this epiosde
2. If a semblance is based off a persons personality and character like they said in one of the episodes, why is Raven's semblance the ability to telport to people she's close to? I mean doesn't that seem like the exact opposite of her personality?
sooooooo ummmmmm….. a gundam???
Am I the only one who needed to look up what the scar meant?
I saw it was a scar but didn't know what the letters said until I read people's responses
And oh boy is the episode that came out on first yesterday something

Did you watch the Adam Trailer from this past summer? It's got some of his story in it

Didn't know about that, Thanks :)
Vic Mognogna( Qrow's VA) got fired.
That's what happens when you sexually harass people.
"Why is my name spelled with a Q?!"
"7 dollar budget."
And still wonder why so many thinks Season 1 had better animation than current season.
also did you guys know team JNPR are based off genderbending mythology characters?
Jaune is Joan of arc
Nora is Thor
Pyrrha is Achilles
Ren is Mulan
Yup, knew that.
Everyone's getting new re-designs, huh? Not sure I like Weiss or Blake's new hairdos though. Weiss in particular.
Mulan deserves better. Achilles make sense.
I get thor with lightning and hammer. I get Achilles with the fighting style and being the best. I get Joan of arc with the knight theme. I don't get Mulan.
Season 7 started last Saturday, can't wait to see what happens
I saw the 1st episode, and my god di it hype me up, it feels like S6 was ages ago but this reminded me why I loved the series in the first place

Do you have a membership with Rooster Teeth? I thought that's the only way you could see it till next Saturday
! Animation and fight choreography have been steadily improving, and the story is bound to pick up in pace with them finally about to talk to Ironwood and Salem taking matters into her own hands. Also, Neo and Cinder are on their way to Atlas Kingdom, too. Not to mention a bunch of other stuff like Weiss confronting her family again, Ozpin's eventual return and probably more information on the silver eyed warriors - almost seems a bit too loaded for a single season^^
! And finally, PENNY!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that we'll find out Salem had Ruby's mother killed because she had silver eyes?
kind of like how she had subordinates try to kill the Grimm reaper for the same reason?
! Called it, called it, called it, called it, called it, called it, called it
God this show has become terrible since Monty death.
I've never even watched this, I barely even knew this series existed. I love Hbomberguy's videos though. What do actual fans think of this review?
1: The show is good. It takes a while to find its footing, but its good. Nothing super amazing, maybe doesn't live up to its potential, but good. Characters are likeable and the fights are solid. Its what you want from a psuedo-shonen series.
2. Without actually watching the video, because its freaking two and a half hours…. I can say this.
ANyone that makes a 2.5 hour video about a series they don't like has some kind of axe to grind. Usually, and I'm not saying its the case here because I'm not watching the video, but usually, its "I really got into this at one point, but then later it went in directions I didn't want it to because it didn't match up to my fanfic ideas."
See any Star Wars video.
If its just "I didn't care for this" or "this is outright bad" then they don't have more than 20 or 30 minutes of material to talk about. Even something you love you're not going to gush about for more than an hour unless its a multi-part super in depth coverage.
You have to REALLY hate something and have a vendetta against it to go on about it for hours after spending weeks of your time script writing and video editing. Even the Plinkett Star Wars reviews aren't that long.
You have to have a very specific reason to make a video that long about anything, good or bad.
On this very forum we spent nearly a decade hating on Naruto, but that could only happen because we all loved it at one point and were disappointed by its eventual failures. You can't do a negative review at that length without some love for a thing.
The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference . . . .
Hbomberguy is a high-quality youtuber, he doesn't make lazy hate videos.
In his words: it's so artistically interesting to talk about this show because it's constantly on the cusp of becoming great. He's disappointed by the show never fulfilling it's amazing potential, because it's genuinely great sometimes but the writing can't maintain the quality. That's apparently why he spent so much time on the review.
Couldn't they just split the review in 3 or so videos? I guess that what most people who do analysies on Youtube does.

fwiw, it's more of this:
The central point of the video is, after all, much less about RWBY per see than it is about fandom and fan culture. Hbomber dedicates about 1/3 of the video to telling the story of fanmade animations in the early era o Youtube that snowballed into RWBY with a side of Monty Oum's story. You could really name "RWBY and the story of Monty Oum": Hbomb is entirely dedicated to covering his life and work (it's even dedicated in memoriam to him at the very start) and ends with a bittersweet homage to him, making it very clear he admires him a great deal and is primarily concerned with Monty Oum's work and the culture that produced it. Thus the video only covers the season Om had a hand or a impact on, and that's 1-3. Afterwards it is a wholly different beast.
Some of the more established youtubers have been pivoting towards borderline documentary-style deep dives into works lately, and with that lens I don't get why something being long is a knock against it. Lindsay Ellis spend as long or longer talking about the Hobbit and GoT season 8, it just happened to be split into parts. Plus, Hbomberguys video is clearly divided into themed sections so the "parts" are already there, theres many natural pausing points.

What do actual fans think of this review?
Without actually watching the video…. I can say this.
Based on this exchange, I have my doubts Robby can be swayed
I explicitly mentioned multi-part deep dives.
If that's what a video maker is doing, then break the video into parts. Otherwise its too overwhelming to even look at from a youtuber you know literally nothing about except for the negative title they put on their video..
But you can pause and resume the video at any point; whats the difference? He just happened to drop the completed product all in one go, as if it was a documentary, which it basically is? You can always opt out along the way, same as if you watched a 15-minute part 1 of 10 video.

Because two and a half hours is a big ask up front. From a reviewer you know nothing about.
Yeah you can stop whenever, but its formatted for a long presentation in a way that's overwhelming. Give me a sample platter before I decide I want the whole course.

You sound like everyone I've ever tried to convince to get into One Piece.
Not to get off topic.

I was about to reply to this, but then I remembered that I just said myself you won't be swayed, considering this was initiated by the exchange of "what do people think of the video"–>"The show is good, I haven't watched the video", and now we're at justifying not having watched the video, so...
Anyway, if people want a shorter video to get a feel for Hbomberguy, heres a 25 minute one on how brands can manipulate social media culture wars for free advertising.

At this point I wouldn't recommend One Piece to anyone that wasn't already curious about it. It IS too big an ask at this point. Nearly 100 volumes, hundreds of episodes of show, thousands of hours of commitment? For a franchise that probably isn't going to end for close to another decade yet? And where the second half overall just hasn't been as good as the first?
It's a terrible recommend at this point in time. You can always say "Just watch up through the Arlong Arc, and you'll know by then if you're a fan or not" and that's not so bad since that's only 11 volumes, and 60 episodes, but even that much is still a lot. Maybe a little easier now that its on Netflix.
The decade to go still is the main reason I'd be hard pressed to recommend it tho.
At this point in time I also wouldn't recommend Berserk, the Game of Thrones novels, or the Kingkiller Chronicles, and I've loved all those things.

The video title is LITERALLY "RWBY is disappointing and here's why". And the person who posted the video said they never watched the show, didn't even know it existed.
The one sentence the video creator gets up front and its negative. Why should someone that likes the show give a negative TWO HOUR video a chance at that point?
You're saying its more nuanced and actually positive, okay. And that's fine, I'd hope something would have more nuance after 2.5 hours. Maybe I will watch it later, purely because there's an actual discussion going on.
But I think its also more than fair to make an initial judgement based on the initial impression given.
"This show is disappointing, and now I talk about that for 2 hours" is awful optics.
I don't know what title they could have gone with instead, but "A RWBY retrospective" or "RWBY: Potential Unfulfilled" or "RWBY: Could have been great" or "RWBY: Big Problems, Bigger potential" "RWBY: The good, the bad, the disappointing" all covey the same message but with a very different tone instantly closer to what you describe with just one or two different words.
I certainly didn't expect this to be the discussion lmao.
I didn't watch the video, but I did see the first episodes of RWBY a few years ago and though they were okay…ish. I remember the plot being fairly cookie cutter and everything feeling really dragged out. And based on Robby's glowing review of "The show is good, but not great", I'm not especially inclined to continue to the "good" part.
So yeah...I guess it was disappointing for me.
I'm late because I only got to this thread by searching through a user's post history, but I did see something I wanted to respond to. Specifically the point about how you can pause a 2 hour long video and come back just like how you can watch multiple parts.
To me, it's not as easy to pause a 2 hour video as it would be to come back to a multi-part series after watching a full smaller video or two. There are two reasons for this, the first being I might not remember where I left off on the 2 hour video, and the second being the longer a video is, the less accurate the time mover (does it have a formal name) is. If you watch a video that's a few hours and try to get to a specific time, say 20 minutes, and you try to get the mover over there, you might be a couple minutes ahead or behind.
If this needs clarifying, I don't keep tabs open if I'm not actively using them. I did notice with hours-long music mixes on Youtube if I close it and come back later it'll save the time I'm on, but I haven't noticed it for mobile. I like to use mobile because I like to walk around and I have trouble sitting still for long periods of time (if you're wondering how I managed the hours-long music mixes on desktop, I use it as background motivation for when I have to do sitting down work. Otherwise I pace back and forth while listening to music on my phone).
And even if two things are logically the same or close, they might not be as close to a neurodivergent person as they are to a neurotypical person, because those differences that mean very little to you could be a world of difference to someone else. I eat meatballs with spaghetti but I don't eat meatsauce even though I've been told they're pretty much the same, the meatsauce is just meatballs that's been ground down to smaller bits, and I couldn't give you a logical explanation why I'll eat one but not the other. They just have a different energy to me, even if they'd taste the same or if they came from the same source.
Another thing is that achievement of a goal seems more attainable when you break it down into parts. Maybe you can't see yourself getting all the way from Point A to Point Z, but you can see yourself getting to Point B. And from Point B you can see yourself getting to Point C, and so on and so forth, until Point Z actually is in sight.
i didn't watch the video but i have a mutual film-nerd friend and was following him that way, so i knew he existed and made videos. when i heard he was doing this video i guess i just felt a bit disappointed? Like there's an entire culture of people who make their bread and butter making rwby criticism videos on youtube (which is fine) so i guess i just assumed he was a bit higher class than that
anyway, i did read this person's post on reddit who did a deep dive into hbomb's old somethingawful posts about monty, and i kind of thought it was a thoughtful response overall. probably one-sided of me but i really dont care lol https://www.reddit.com/r/RWBY/comments/idkcam/the_hbomberguy_video_genuinely_upsets_me/
I want to watch the new season but I’m getting a 403 error on my computer, anyone else getting this?
I don't know howo to say this, but I guess after seeing so many people criticizes RWBY in a bad way, I suddenly lost interest in checking out this anymore.
And I feel like I should've lost that interest sooner.

I do this way to often, don’t let other people’s opinions decide what you like
I always feel deflated after I really enjoy something and find out it has a bad Rotten Tomato score, or that people here on this forum think it’s bad and have convincing arguments
They may be right, maybe it’s not a masterpiece or it’s mediocre or even below average, but if you enjoy something you shouldn’t have to feel sorry about that
I’ve done this with Tower Of God, Solo Leveling and a ton of other series including RWBY and even One Piece on occasion when I read people debating on these Forums about stuff post time skip
So it might seem like I’m the last person who should say this but I know from experience, just enjoy it, maybe stop reading others opinions for a while or at least come to the understanding that you like something that doesn’t have to be a masterpiece
