So Burn the Witch is a mini-series.
Heh.
So Burn the Witch is a mini-series.
Heh.
Which is a good thing. We saw with Bleach how Kubo had great ideas at the beginning but could never sustain or realize them. This might just be decent or even really good if it is kept short.
So Burn the Witch is a mini-series.
Heh.
It was already announced it'll be miniseries.
Jump is being really aggressive with the new series this year. With these we go up to 15, quite above the recent average of 11. I don't expect any new rounds until We Never Learn ends in 18 chapters (around January), but who knows at this point.
Mitama is ending in 36-37 and Bone Collection will follow in 38. I am assuming Ghoswriter will be the third series to go, considering recent ToC placements and story developments. Burn the Witch will only be 4 chapters long, so it will end in Issue 41 and leave space for the fourth series, no need for 4 cancellations.
And thus, Agravity Boys and Yozakura march on
Unfortunately, Ghostwriter just didn't make it. I was really looking forward to what it could do, but ranking and editorial pressure just made it collapse with the latest developments. Sad to see it ending like this, it was the most promising series in the past year and a half, for me.
I'm glad I didn't invest myself in Ghostwriter since I didn't like the premise. So far I'm enjoying Mashle which is nothing extraordinary but fun. I'm not a big fan of Undead Unluck so I'm not sure I will continue
.
If it continues, I may read more series on Jump+ than on the Jump magazine
Mashcle I enjoy on the silly chapters, and lately is been dipping too much in shonen, we have dozens of those, and cream puffs can’t carry you forever.
It looks like Act-Age possibly going to have hiatus (or even worse going to axe).
After the precedent set with Watsuki I dont have much faith in the hammer being brought down, but I hope the artist doesn't get too screwed over the the depredations of her colleague and can land on her feet.
They did cancel Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi! when the author was arrested for paying underage girls to have sex. And that series was bigger than Act-Age is now and it happened almost 20 years ago, when the world was a different place. The charges this time are arguably even worse, so I think Act-Age is done for.
Watsuki is a big shot and Kenshin is a massive franchise. Cancelling that would be a way bigger deal. Plus that whole thing ended with just a fine, so at least in the eyes of Japanese law, it's a lesser crime.
I feel more sad for the artist that will be hurt by this because the author just could not keep his hands for himself.
Well, that sucks, there are people saying that the artist of Act-Age could continue the series alone or look for another writer, but the series itself is already tainted. Hoping that this doesn´t put an end to her career, it isn´t her fault that the co-author was a sick bastard.
I just heard about the about the Act-Age news… this will inevitably cause it to be cancelled. Sucks to hear, but the guy has to pay for his disgusting behavior.
Though I hope the co-author will be able to get on her feet somehow.
If Act-Age follows Takeshi's route, then it'll resume on different magazine after hiatus to just complete it.

I for the life of me don't get the Demon Slayer hype. Yeah the anime looked good, but the manga is still a mediocore shonen though. Attack on Titan didn't even sell that gang busters.
Wow… That is just so sad. It was one of the freshest series I had read in years. I liked it so much and it was well on its way to the climax arc. Really sad to see it go down like this. I hope the artist can continue her career, she has a promising future ahead of her. She must be the one hardest hit by this, she was working with that sick pedo after all...
Since she was 18 years old, no less.
My understanding is that he was going around gropping at least two confirmed cases of underaged girls (over 15), so yeah Shueisha finally responded as it should have.
Still Watsuki sitting on top of a dragon hoard of underaged porn of actual children and seeing Kenshin still around is still revolting.
And I’m still angry/conflicted on shimabukuro, as the two things that I was basing my “ok” on, have lost all virtue with Watsuki, jail time, and Oda’s vote of confidence.
Damn, it sucks for the artist who from one day to another lost her work without any wrongdoing.
Hope she finds another project soon.
Shimabukuro was during older times, if the case had happened during Toriko's run he would probably get fired to even with Oda's voto of confidence.
Watsuki is too much of a money whale (72M volumes sold) for Shueisha to drop him, that why Togashi (128M volumes sold) can work whenever he wants.
I guess that the same way that happens with the music industry the larger split of volume sales goes to Shueisha.
And yeah, the accusation, and confession is of him molesting or exposing himself in two instances to high school girls.
Wasn't actually middle school girls?
And Shimabakuro did get fired at the time and his series was cancelled. He just came back later once his sentence was over.
High School/ Middle school, makes little diference. A non consenting minor is a minor by the law be it 16 or 6.
Yeah he bounced back after sentence, but in the current state of affairs I don’t think this one will bounce back.
Yeah, and the crime is probably worse this time. Like, what Matsuki was doing is pretty much straight up sexual assault.
Yeah he bounced back after sentence, but in the current state of affairs I don’t think this one will bounce back.
I'm not sure. Matsuki can able to come back again like Shimabu (but it going to take several years for Matsuki to return). The major restriction will be either Shiro is okay to work with him or not.
I didn't realise Mitama Security was ending!? That's really lame, I was enjoying that a lot. Do we know why it ended?
That's a shame. I know its usually harder for gag series to succeed but I thought it was better than anything else Shonen Jump introduced in 2019. Well I look forward to whatever the author does next.
Agreed, Mitama was the best 2019 series in WSJ. The comedy was actually pretty good and there were some nice "aww, how sweet" moments too. Shame.
The Act Age incident makes my blood boil. I'm glad Jump took a proper stance THIS TIME and I wish the artist all the best.
The writer is actually retarded for doing what he did and I'm glad the girls stood up for themselves.
What a shitstorm.
All I have is sympathy for the artist and her fans.
Good that they did the right thing this time at least. Sucks for the artist, though. I wonder if she could've (or would've even wanted to) continued writing it herself. Though I guess the series has his stench on it now.

You shouldn't use this kind of abelist language.

I'm not sure about that part. It isn't really easy to take over right in the middle of serialization, especially we don't know Shiro's writing skill.
Besides, now that the cat is out of the bag, the teenage protagonist of act age was harboring feelings of affection to her 30+ director, that she could not understand because her weird personality or lack of human emotion.
There is also the fact that carrying on with the story also pushes the pervert forward, and maybe she couldn’t do it even if she wanted it because the legalese of the contract.

Yeah, I really hated that it got into this route. Reminded me of how I disliked Ane Doki.
Act-Age was becoming one of my favorite manga, and to see it all go to waste because of what the writer did is just really sad to see. Kei Yonagi was becoming one of my favorite characters, and I was even looking forward to an anime adaptation but unfortunately it won't happen anymore. Because of the writer's stupid actions he ruined his career, probably ruined the illustrator's career, ruined and tainted Act-Age and ruined the potential future of the series.
I'm just wondering what Viz is going to do with the upcoming volume releases, will they still release them or will they just cancel it?
You shouldn't use this kind of abelist language.
Could you elaborate? I'm not seeing what zeltrax said that could be taken as enabling the writer's behavior.
