So it was Murata's idea to change all these things…
For once, I too feel Murata's changes are forced and the original version of this battle was much better and enjoyable.
Child Emperor is not a bad character, but he doesn't all these extra content.
Let's hope Murata will learn from this.
Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)

I'm going to be severely crushed if he decides to fuck with the fight I've been waiting for.
Please Murata, it's perfect as it is, please don't do anything unneccessary with it!!
Just adapt it faithfully, I'm begging ya! -
This manga is like the anti-HxH. Instead of being under-produced it's over-produced.

@Daz:
A few months ago, I said this regarding the subject of tonal dissonance in the OPM remake, or how its seriousness is at odds with its gag manga roots…
Yeah, everything you've said is indeed a huge problem with the remake.
On the topic of "has it ever happened that a jokey self-aware subversion of a genre hasn't wound up with its own elaborate mythology?"
The webcomic does a good job of subverting that. Anytime some kind of hyper serious plotline or lore point starts to get build up Saitama just kind of bungles in and wrecks it, immediately setting everything back to square one. That timeliness of the "punchline" has been mostly removed with the manga and what was suppose to be the parody equivalent of a series of quickwitted jokes has now become a long trudge through a bunch of shounen-centric shaggy dog stories.
-
What it looks like is that Murata was no longer satisfied just redrawing the webcomic and decided that he was going to give himself creative control. One is either too in awe or just intimidated by Murata's status to turn down his changes so he goes along with it.

Incredibly unlikely. ONE has ultimate creative control over the manga and probably only gave Murata a bone because it's a fairly irrelevant battle.

I don't think you can 100% attest to that so your guess is as good as mine. We have no idea what goes on behind closed doors and the inner working of their partnership.

These changes were necessary in my book, the previous rendition of the fight had phoenixman being ridiculously OP which as a consequence made CE have to be a lot stronger than was likely intended. Additionally these character development changes give needed setup for some things that are currently ongoing in the webcomic so it serves to more fluidly bring those two continuities together. Lastly now that Phoenixman lives he can be used again in the future and if One wants to then give him other crazy abilities when he recovers he has that option open.
-
This might also be in line of the Amai Mask change. Child Emperor killing a suit monster without a suit is very similar to Amai Mask killing slightly monsterized heroes. Humanoid monsters, with human intelligence, memories and feelings and in a state that doesn't pose direct danger.
-
Amai Mask might be more linked to further when
! reattaches his own arm, you could start connecting the dots and suspect that he is not fully human.

You also realize that he is not Genos.

Can i just say… "meh"?

How long until this one is redrawn to include Phoenix Man?

Psychos becomes increasingly similar to the first boss of Asuras Wrath.

Not a huge fan of this fight. It kind of takes the wind out of the other Dragon monsters.

Now Murata will have to redraw the chapter so that Psykos blows up a lake instead of the ocean to keep power balance consistent.
-
Yeah! Not impressed with this excessive power up.
-
So G.O.D. appeared in front of her. No wonder if she got such a immense Power Boost.
-
It looks cool and all, but the next fighst are gonna look lame in comparison.
-
I'm wonderrng how will Garou and Saitama enter the big action with these two major powers already fighting… Really nice art. I kinda feel I'm happy to not having read the original one...
-
I am wondering whether touching Saitama's head had given her some power-up.:getlost:
-

This isn't even a joke anymore. It's only a matter of time before it happens. Gorgiously drawn and all, but this shit is way too excessive. Just get on with the hype cadre fights without overshadowing them with padding before hand. This is probably going to end with a hero getting saved by Saitama for the millionth time this arc.
-
I admit, I was too busy admiring the godly art to care about things like power level consistency. My jaw dropping more and more after every page of that overkill ray.
-
I am surprised every time someone comments about power levels and consistency in this series. I seriously couldn't care less about that. Comedy, gorgeous art and amazing action scenes are way more than enough to hook me to OPM. I honestly don't know why people care about the serious side of it.
-
Like with Berserk, I find it hard to enjoy the art when it is covered in fan service.
-
I assumed the massive power-up was because the tentacles were absorbing Saitama's power and that Psykos was going to lose it the moment Saitama bursts out.
-
Wow, that's some Hagiwara-level of power.
Now, I'm waiting for Dark Schneider (from Bastard!!) to appear in this manga. Since we are at that level of godly powers that could put a shame on the Boros fight… :pEDIT: And is that a Hoshin Engi reference, when she talks about aiming to be Earth itself ?
! I'm talking about So Dakki, in the end of the original manga.
-

I'm in the same camp. One of the first chapters featured a random monster so massive that he annihilates an entire metropolis by falling over, and said monster gets dispatched within a chapter as if its no big deal. Its a declaration of intent right off the bat that "yo, the level of carnage in this manga is going to be cartoonishly ludicrous"
But of course, the OPM remake does often undermine this angle by presenting many non-saitama fights and scenes in a straightforward, standard shonen manner
-
The problem is the level of power that is happening right now, it is the fact that it is preceding fight that are actually interesting. This entire fight will kind of undermine all of the other fights. It would be like if Saitama killed Goketsu before the tournament even started.
And the only time that power doesn’t matter is when Saitama is around. When he isn’t, the manga revolves around power scaling and matchups. People wouldn’t read this manga if it was only Saitama one punching everything.

It's not about Saitama going around one punching everything. That would of course not be a fun series to follow (although it's the centrepiece of OPM). It's a matter of paying more attention than is due to power levels, letting it dig into the enjoyment of the core points of the series. Especially when people have a certain expectation of things to happen because of the webcomic. Since I've never read the webcomic, I don't get most of the criticism people throw at Murata's version anyway. Of course I'd be crying foul if Licenceless Rider was all of a sudden fighting a monster able to cut a piece of the planet apart, but that is not what is actually happening here.
-
This is insane.. Where the hell is blast? How is he okay with this level of destruction lol
Is this the same being that gave the emperor dude his power?
-
Well I personally believe this battle is bad because of what happens in the webcomic.
-
The only thing I like about the redrawn version over the web comic is the art work, for obvious reasons
But at least when I don’t like something story wise it at least looks cool
-
Ok… the destruction is reaching levels that i can't even comprehend now...
Can you imagine if this gets a sloppy lazy anime adaptation like season 2? Jeez... i don't even want to think about it. I hope the anime will make this justice, it would be offensive for Murata himself otherwise...
I mean, i guess when even godly beautiful manga like Berserk don't get decent anime adaptations, there's not much to hope, right? OPM season 1 was a miracle... -

That season was special because it had extremely talented animators and artists working on it on a freelance basis, with a legendary director bringing it all together. Heck some of them even did crazy good work on the show and went uncredited.
I really don't think they can capture that lightning in a bottle again.

Ramp up the horniness a little bit more. Interspecies Reviewers was beautifully animated :ninja:

I guess, but A LOT of anime have better quality than OPM seaosn 2… i mean, look at top tier anime quality like Demon Slayer or Attack On Titan... why can't we have stuff like that?
-
In case anyone is interested, the VIZ translation of OPM has just caught up to the most recent chapter from Murata. Not bad!

I know that the shonen jump way of ending chapters on a high note and big pannels, or then after the big panel a small joke that either underlines or subverts the tone of the page gets repetitive, but this feels like the chapter just kinda ends.
! Regular shonen jump series would have ended on the beam struggle
maybe in the panel of psychos generating glasses on her giant orochi meat faces
more serious fare, or arcs would end on… Damn I forgot's Blizzard's name, Fubuki?, on her fear of the power on the surface with some of the cadres surfacing
And a comedy series, or early one punch man would have ended on the belt joke, granted it wasn't that funny
But going to the Flashy flash face's full panel, without reaction or contradiction of that joke feels off.
! And I went into this tangent because I feel like it is not the first time that it happened. -
As someone who largely has enjoyed Murata & ONE's collaboration on One Punch Man, I feel almost consistently awed by the action and art direction (and admittedly more infrequently, the humor) of this take on the series. I remember when this was viewed in step with My Hero Academia as both really fascinating Japanese takes on the western superhero genre. Like, from a composition standpoint, isn't this manga just jaw dropping? Like, I feel it needs to be said, over and over again.
I've read both the OPM webcomic and Mob Psycho, and while Mob Psycho is by far the deeper and dearer to my heart of the two stories,
I have to appreciate what ONE and Murata have been able to show off with this partnership. It's just… high octane!I have to wonder how this series would be received though, if we didn't have the awful foreknowledge of that dreaded word... canon.
Would people enjoy it more?
-
All I know is that I'll be completely satisfied with everything if the re-draw keeps the two seriously HUGE web comic things I've been wanting to see.
! 1.) The way Saitama wrecks Garou's multiple forms while they pick apart each other's philosophies, and Saitama not only gets through to him…
he also stands up for his life and disagrees with the other heroes when they want to finish him off.
! 2.) The Skirmish between Saitama and Tatsumaki after the raid. She finally had to admit that he was strong, since she couldn't hurt him. -
