Chapter 430 "The Light Snow of Reminiscence Falls" Discussion

your point? Hiluluk was on the Poll too
Hiluluk is obviously a boat in disguise. What plane of existence do you dwell on?
Tch. Pfft. Gah.

Battle Franky posted it a while ago.

Very good chapter chapter and one of the saddest ones that I have read in a while. The spread at the end was also one of the OP spreads I have ever seen. I wonder I there will be a tribute to the GM within the SH's new flag or if their flag will remain the same?
-
wow this chapter makes up for the no new chapter next week

Well, if you think about it, they did have times where they spent an undeterminable amount of time at one place or the other. My best guess would be that they've had the Merry for probably 3 to 5 months at least.
-
The reason why Robin didnt cry as much as the others is because she has no tears left from crying since the start of the rescue! She has no tears left….lol
-
Well, here's one thing we can be happy about… New Saga ^^;

Time doesn't really matter anyway, if you're talking about being attached. How long have they known each other?
-
Thanks, Battle Franky. Super-sad chapter, eyes got watery, so on and so forth. I'm not going to waste a paragraph writing what there has already been like 10 pages of non-stop posts about. This did catch my eye, however:
(Please note that this is not a specific shot at you in a way, shape or form, but more at anyone that thinks this way. You just happened to be the first one I saw.)
@onemoment:Hey, we still got a dead Nero.
This drives me crazy, honestly, especially after a chapter like this. Oda does not kill people in real time - this is a fact. He wouldn't kill Pell, and he wouldn't kill Pagaya, both of which would have been really hard-hitting sacrifices had they died. Yet you expect me to believe that Oda would kill random background minion villains that would have no emotional impact AS OPPOSED TO killing something that would (Pell, Pagaya, etc.)? It is because Merry is the first character (not person, character) to die in real time that this is a hard-hitter, and I really think that if it was not only Merry, but also Arlong, Bellamy, Kuro, Nero, and/or a bunch of nameless bounty hunters from Whiskey Peak (seriously, wtf?), the sacrifice means something less. We know by now that Oda is no idiot - as a writer that chooses never to kill a character, he must know the emotional value of death and sacrifice extremely well. He's most definitely not one to waste it on Nameless Henchman number 147.
And before I get a bunch of comments like "but BeLlamy iz ded! I sawed it!1!1!!", no you didn't. You saw Bellamy get knifed. You saw Nero get Lucchi'd. You saw Arlong get axed. You saw Kuro get thrown onto a boat. You saw nameless bounty hunter number 625 get sliced. You never actually saw an actual, 100% confirmed last breath - just a wound that looked like it would warrant one. And, hey, considering this is a story where some kid from a village can take a 4-Ton Bat to the head and not have his left eye end up on the moon, said wounds are just about the crappiest evidence you can get.

That's 3-5 monthes of living, fighting, and relying on each other. Don't forget what they've been through together in that amount of time.
-
Excellent chapter indeed. I love the fact that Luffy and Chopper still don't realize that Ussop and Sogeking are the same person.
-
Well, I wasn't saying that it was no time at all, it gave plenty of time for the SH's to get attached to the Merry. Hell, I was sad to see it go, but I am more the Zoro type to just watch calmly and respectfully. I was also trying to say that the time they spent together was most likely more than one month as the poster I quoted was saying.
-
Fantastic chapter. Can't say I wasn't expecting the Merry rescue and subsequent death ever since Kaku destroyed her, but Oda did a wonderful job handling it. I especially like that Luffy burned the ship since the ocean floor is cold and lonely. That made for a very touching scene, visually and emotionaly.

"Fire Fist" Ace, that's your cue, isn't it?

The OP MSN group isn't working for me, and I don't pretend to have a perfect memory. If you by any chance have an alternate method of seeing that chapter, I would like to see it. If I remember, Bellamy beat him up but, once again, it was never confimed that he was dead - he just got the crap beaten out of him by Bellamy.
-
yep he was directly quoted in town as passing away (comment when Bellamy was setting up in his and Luffy's final battle)
he was also very minor
the 1 character I thought shouldv'e died was Wiper
espeically after all the emphasis put on the Reject as being INSANE weapon

Woah, wait a minute there–there is a difference between how Roshino was handled in the manga and in the anime.
In the anime, Bellamy throws him out the window and then does some unknow attack to finish him off.
In the manga, Bellamy stabs his hand, breaks a bottle of alcohol over his head, and throws Roshino out a window as Bellamy first mate (I forget his name, the sword guy) throws a match at him. As a result, Roshino is throw out of that window in a ball of fire. I'm pretty sure he's ead.
-
All I could find on the manga was this:
http://www.mangavolume.com/one-piece/chapter-222/Stabbed in the hand, set aflame. Worse has happened in OP, with no death. And I'm about to go searching for that quote that Taleran is talking about. If they 100% say that he is dead, I'll submit - I'm not an idiot, I know when to give in.

It was definatley stated.
Men: Bellamy disappeared…?!!
This is...!! The same thing as when "Roshio the Executioner" got killed...!! -
K, fire fist isn't online.
mr.11 that was tied up on the marine ship was shot by the billions.

Marines: Damn!! A flaming net…!!
Thanks to him, we totally lost sight of the Straw-Hat crew. What should we do, Captain?!
Someone killed Mr. 11 when we left him on the ship, too. -
God, I nearly cried….
Dammit....Merry....I know many wished you dead when you came back but I didn't want you to leave.....cries I'LL MISS YOU SO MUCH, MERRY!
(Okay, I did this just to make a reply but as I typed this I actually started crying....sniff)

Different translation states that Roshio was "beaten". I do trust stephen more, though, so I'll submit, along with Elric's given evidence. I don't want to become one of those guys who keeps backing up a crap argument with no evidence to his name. That stated, I can understand Bellamy's killing of Roshio, but not Mr. 11. Killing Roshio shows how insane and ruthless Bellamy is. Killing Mr.11 does nothing; it most certainly makes me wonder what the hell was going on in Oda's mind. I don't pretend Oda's perfect, and this certainly hinders the track record of nobody dies. Perhaps Roshio and Mr.11 had no dream, so they could not lost it as a fate worse than death, as stated by Oda in an SBS? What do you guys think?
-
Killing Mr. 11 shows how desperate the people in BW were for higher ranking / power / etc
-
I cried! Dam I cried!!
-
I can't believe it… this chapter made me tear up. Seriously.
Incredible.
Merry, you will be sorely missed. A strawhat is dead, and I, for one, mourn the loss.
And people thought Merry coming back was a mistake. Oda is genius, Oda is genius, Oda is genius.
-
merry, you are a greatest friend in the world, saving everybody in the critical moment … thank you merry, thanks apforums crew for bringing this manga here ... and thanks all who evolved in this manga scan and translation
-
that was such a sad ending Oda made me cry again over that, but now I'm just wondering what the new ship will look like… oh the possibilities.
-
??? naaah, franky can do better than that!

Lovely Chapter! This is now one of my favorite sad scenes of One Piece. I was hoping for them to cut of the head or take of their flags.
-
Man that was freakin' sad, never been so touched by a manga.
This is why I love One Piece. Go from thrilling to tear jerker in one week flat.
I can't wait to see this particular scene animated and then all the amv's that'll come out afterwards.
-
I come home from work and I see people sticking to the "People Die" theory. Thank you very much. XD
I've resigned that Oda has a hard time killing the good guys. But the bad guys he has no problem killing. Roshio, Mr. 11, Shura and Yama (There is NO WAY that Shura is still alive. He took a Reject Dial to the chest. Enel had to restart his own heart when Wiper used the Reject on him. And Yama… Robin broke his spine.) There's others, like the Nyaaban brothers, Mr. 7 and Ms. Fathersday, Ms. Monday and Mr. 9. Nero's probably dead, too.
Anyway, Merry's death was tragic, but it seemed very much put off. I think Oda wanted to delay the inevitable as much as he could...
-
At first I was reading other people's responses and I thought "I feel bad and cold hearted cause I reckon I won't cry and all these people are saying they cried."
But I cried!! I cried!! That was so sad!! I can't wait for the anime to reach this point! It's going to be sooo sad!
I keep pulling tissues out of my tissue box…but it's a One Piece tissue box of Luffy on the Merry-gou!!!! :cwy:I guess this is why Oda-sama doesn't kill, it's so dramatic and so sad... it just made this all that much more emotional. GOOD BYE MERRY!
-
Ah, deaths in one piece usually hit me the hardest.
In the other anime's I watch I barely cry, but with One Piece I break down.
No dragonballs for Merry?
-
I just read the scanslation.

O.O
It says so little– showing only something we've basically been expecting since at least 428 if not since early in W7-- and yet so much.
(16 characters)
-
This may have been mentioned, but you know you're reading the work of a master storyteller when he can make you misty eyed when the boat dies.
One thing though, if the crew's beyond the Gate of Justice, how'd Galley-La get there? Did they just go around the Gate?
R.I.P. Pirate Ship Going Merry
-
I think it's like:
Marine HQ –---Gate of Justice ----(Marine Ships Here) Enies Lobby ----(Mugiwara here) --- Water 7
-
I dont know if I am just a cold-hearted punk. But that chapter did not make me cry at all. It barely made me the tiniest bit sad, but thats about it.
I was just curious to see how exactly the Merry got out to sea on its own. I obviously got my response, but I am trying VERY HARD to ignore the fact that the Merry can move on its own.
Yeah, not a good of a chapter as I expected, but good nonetheless. I am just dying till they get to the bounties.
-
Why the title is not translated yet?
kind of "pouring down light snow of remembrance"
is it not poetic enough…?Iceberg's face was so well drawn, intensing the atmosphere.
Felt so silly to cry over a fictional ship, but I did.
Maybe it was the greatness of Japanese culture which influenced mangas, that everything, everything with no exception, is considered animate. -
No doubt, the best chapter ever …
I liked Zorro attitude, I love this guy ...
Robin is crying too, but it's just a small tear that we can see on her left eye.430 is the best ever, love you ODA
-
This is one of the saddest things i've seen in OP since the End of Robin's flashback and choppers past. It brought a tear to my eye. Good bye Merry./:sad:
