Franky can help repair modify the ship and is also a musician. I remember him singing something when he fought luffy. And Besides he's powerful and is on the merry with then. So it looks like franky may be the new crew member if there is one, though I don't know for how long.

I find it funny that the main argument for Franky joining is "What if Oda pulls a Robin?"
Erm, he already did. Franky is a Robin.
In case you forgot, the most likely candidates for joining the crew starting at the beginning of Water 7 have been anyone in Galley-La (including Paulie and Kaku), considering that's where Luffy went to ask for a shipwright. Franky was the antagonist at this point, beating on Usopp and fighting Luffy, making him the least likely candidate for a shipwright. Now, all of the sudden, he's best buddies with the Straw Hats. If you had told me that back during the beginning of Water 7, I would have told you that you were crazy.
If you had told me that Ms. All Sunday were to join the crew back when we first met her and Vivi had been around for just a little while, I would have told you that you were crazy.
Oda already "pulled a Robin", and that's Franky. Unless you guys are holding out for a "double-Robin", I'd say the chances of Franky not joining are pretty slim.
I apologize if this argument has already been stated before, because it seems rather obvious and I would be surprised if nobody's said it yet. However, just from reading a couple pages of this thread I can already tell it would be mind-numbing to read all 50 pages.

All point to franky joining the crew. (how come I don't see my avatar ? I choose a sanji avatar but don't see it.)

All point to franky joining the crew.
I'm confused. Are you backing me up or saying I'm ranting in the wrong direction? I agree with you that Franky is joining the crew.
-
I don't know if fenix agrees with you, but that's an excellent point. I agree with it.
And I don't blame you for not wanting to read through all the other pages. Sometimes reading just one page in this thread numbs my mind.

I'm going to maintain my prediction that Paulie will be the Strawhats new crew member and shipwright. Although Franky has had some very good interactions with the crew and does look like a shoe in to be the next member.
Even still I just feel that Paulie will end up being the one to become the Strawhats new shipwright. I also feel that his backstory will be introduced to the audience a little later on. Where as Franky's backstory and dream are apparent, Paulie's could just be introduced at a later time. There may be some significance behind his outrageous reaction to young women, and his being chased by debtors. I also have to wonder whether Paulie's flashback on his life will have any significance later on.
Anyway if it ends up that Franky does join the crew I won't be too dissapointed I could get over it. On the other hand if it were Paulie that were to join I just wonder how many people would be pissed off with that outcome.

I, for one, would be pissed off on the grounds that it just doesn't make any goddamn sense.

I apologize if this argument has already been stated before
I forgive you.
No. You outlined it well but we haven't seen a new argument since… I can't remember. This thread is just another broken record.

Franky Centaur holds an enemy down! ZOMG, he's ripping off Robin!!!11
Really, many of the Strawhats moves overlap. Chopper punches really hard, just like Luffy punches really hard, the only difference is that he has hooves. Sanji kicks really hard, just like Luffy kicks really hard, the only difference is that he never punches. Usopp shoots fire, Nami shoots lightning. Zoro cuts the air. It's pretty difficult to create characters that don't have moves that overlap in a manga as long as One Piece is. Franky is a Cyborg - the possibilities are, like other members have said, pretty endless. So WHAT if both he and Ussop shoot stuff? Ussop has never fired a single bullet. Franky does! That's difference enough for me. And come on, the characters fight completely differently. Franky's had only one real fight and I can see that.
When the musician joins and attacks using sound waves, I can guarantee you at least one person is going to complain "ZOMG! He's ripping off Usopp Noise!! Unoriginal!!!11 Oda is loosing his touch/wrote himself into a corner!"
I agree completely with onemoment. It's COOL. That's all that matters.
Franky could be the musician.

As it is impossible for me to read through the whole thread, don´t kill me if this was asked before (a little flaming is ok ).
If Franky were to join, what about the square sisters? They always were inseparable. Would they join too? (I´ve really come to like them, couldn´t have believed this a year before…). What do you guys think? -
I figured if Franky were to leave that the Square Sisters my be intrusted to be Iceburg's secretaries now that Calipha is gone, and the Franky Family would gamble/spend/lose all their money and get chased around town with Paulie. But what do I know.
-
786110: Oh, this would really be an good ending for the square sisters; wasn´t it stated in some SBS that they originally wanted to join Galley La?
-
The FF is bka The Galley-La Rejects Union.
-
bka ??
sorry, but I´m really clueless -

I also think it'd be somewhat uplifting if them and the Franky Family intergrate into Galley La. Like sabret00the said, they were all rejected GL hopefuls. And I'd figure if Franky has the ability to build his dream ship, then it would push the family into working harder and harder on their skills. It'd be cool if it would happen, but yeah.
-
-
thanks sabret00the, you taught me sthg. new
-
I also think that the Franky Family will join Galley La. The Squareheads will do Caliphas job and Pauli will be the head shipwright who looks over the Franky Family XD
But there's no chance in hell that Pauli will join, after all he missed all the important fights, missed saving Robin and he missed the death of Going Merry ;_; And he probably won't get a Bounty on his head so that, so that he can still stay in Water 7 without the danger of being cought by the World Government. It would feel incredilbly weird if he joins now.
-
I know I missed the poll but my vote is for Franky. He fought a CP9 member and he also has a sad past like most of the strawhats have.
I think that is Oda way of saying that how you became a Strawhat nakama help with a major fight, dream, and sad past. that is just my opinion about the whole thing

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I was just rereading through some of OP and I found something that might be important to this debate.
http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-3/chapter424mq.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=10090
In this page from chapter 424 Paulie is asked what he is thinking about just as he is about to die, and Paulie answers, "… A memory of my life."
Why would Paulie answer with such a "ridiculous..!!!" response I wonder? It seems to me that this vague statement is almost certainly foreshadowing that Paulie has a significant event or unfulfilled desire that Oda plans to address.
When will Paulie's memory be explored though? The SHs are leaving W7 soon, and at this rate there will be little chance for them to interact with Paulie. Still though, I don't see Oda ignoring this after he dropped such an obvious hint that there is something from Paulie's past that is eating at him. So maybe Oda will throw it out for no reason within the next few chapters, but I really don't think that will be the case. I think the most logical conclussion is that this memory of Paulie's might be something that will drive him to join the SHs.
*If I have missed where Oda has already explained about this memory then I apologize.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that Paulie's life flashed before his eyes, and someone else said, "That's ridiculous!"
-
Uh, I'm pretty sure that Paulie's life flashed before his eyes, and someone else said, "That's ridiculous!"
He didn't say his life flashed before his eyes though. He said he was thinking about "a memory" of his life.
Also, the response is largely what makes me suspect that this Paulies response is significant. Oda obviously wanted the reader to know that Paulie's thoughts were not ordinary given the circumstances, that is why his thoughts are called "ridiculous." IMO, having your life flash before your eyes wouldn't be ridiculous given the circumstances, but focusing on one single thing might be.
So it is clear Oda has told us that just as he is about to die Paulie, for some incomprehensible reason, thinks about a memory of his life. This fact leaves us with two questions. Why would Paulie think such "ridiculous" thoughts when he is about to die, and what is it that is so important that would lead him to think such "ridiculous" thoughts?
-
It could have been called ridiculous because the man expected a plan. Paulie was the one that made them all appear to be tied up before by the Marines when it was Paulie who did it.
-
I think Paulie's life in destined to stay in Water 7. After the big wave had gone, he was busy getting everyone fixing things, even those outside his dock. He seems destined to become the next Iceberg somehow.
-
seriously i mean the vote says BOTH more than NONE??
1. To be honest, Paulie sucks. He's good, but the lack of screen time for the past entire Enes lobby chapter/ character development/ connection with the crew/ personal GOAL i mean, do you really think he'll make it???
2. Franky is already a head of an organization and it's highly doubtful that he'll leave the group behind (I dont thing the Square sisters will let that happen anyway). Plus we already see that hes going to build a ship for the Straw-hat.
Anyhow enough of jumping to conclusions. Some people have been saying all year that Robin sucks or Usopp would leave perminently. They were all wrong.
(and I am right in the end)
bwa hahaha
Oda rocks.
-
Something I just noticed, which may or may not play into Franky joining, but it does seem to be some sort of foreshadowing.
In the infamous scene wherein Luffy draws what appears to be Franky, Sanji believes the man in the picture is actually part Octopus.
When the two berate each other on the sea train, Sanji's insult reasserts the fact that he think's Franky may infact be an Octopus.
Maybe this reinforces the theory of Franky joining the crew. Regardless though it is a funny coincidence.
-
He didn't say his life flashed before his eyes though. He said he was thinking about "a memory" of his life.
Stephen's script:
Lulu: What are you thinking about, Pauly?
Pauly: I'm having a flashback of my life.
Lulu: C'mon man, don't jinx us…!!
http://www.mangascreener.com/stephen/onepiece/chapter424.txt -
HAHAHA! Isn't it obvious who will be joining? It'll be Kokoro!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
My guess still goes with, Paulie. I think when they are leaving water 7.
those guys that were hasing him before will chase him and he will use his rope to get on the boat -
Franky is going to be the new member, Franky fought Nero and Fukurou and won and Paulie only fought the judge and Franky was voted 13 of bested One Piece character and he's going to appear in JUS
-
@Chaos:

-
my only fear with franky joining is that he joins because he can't bare to leave his new ship and turns into another usopp.
-

Odds are he'll fix it before it turns into a new Merry. Besides, he was teh guy who said "a ship that can't carry people isn't a ship anymore."
I mean, odds are he'll be fixing the ship during naval battles, but with just one Coup de Vent he could make a big impact quickly right? At Enies Lobby the marines stated that a few Coup de Vents could cause big damage to their ships, so imagine how much damage it will do to lesser ships.
What I'm saying is, Franky could wreck a ship with Coup inbetween running around and fixing the ship.
-
I think it'll be Franky who joins, but I would love it if it was Kaku…
-
Semi of topic but it only fits here:
All the SHs seem to represent animals based on Gregs site.
Luffy-monkey.
Zoro-Shark
Usopp-Armadillo
Sanji-Duck
Chopper- Who knows?
Nami-cat
Robin-birdSo what would Franky be? Or Paulie, if you must.
I think he's a rooster. look at the chin, hair, big arms, and relatively smaller legs.

well i dont think its gonna be franky, i have a feeling its gonna be a surprise just like robin…..
when everyone thinks its franky, odas gonna pull some shocker out.
franky, paulie are possibilities now. everyones stating the obvious that its either franky or pualie....kaku is a possibility as well.... thats if hes still alive after getting MURDERED by zoro.i think franky will not be a strawhat member, hes just build a ship for em just like what tom did to gold roger (like everyone said) and also franky cannot leave his family his underlings.
as for paulie, i dont think he has to reason to be in the sea....well as of now he hasnt stated his dreams or reason to sail to the "the new world" and plus hes a dedicated employee of gallaya? whats the company is lol
i would like to see kaku as the next member of SH, im pretty sure odas gonna pull a shocker out!!!therefore i say franky and paulie are both out.....but if im wrong, im wrong. lol whoever is the shipwright, i wil respect oda decision, and continue to watch it and read it
-
I non't mind if Kaku joins but i really want franky to join
-
they will get a new character THAT's for sure…
-
I'm really not sure who's going to join, but I don't think Franky is joining. He told the Straw Hats himself that he wants to be like his role model Tom, and that his dream is to build a dreamship. Once the ship is built he'll have accomplished his dream, so he won't have any personal reason to join the Straw Hats. That he expressed no desire to travel with the Straw Hats I think is evidence for that (it's "nothing would make me happier than to have the people I favor ride on the ship I build" and not "nothing would make me happier than to have the people I favor ride with me on the ship I build"). The only way I see Franky joining is if he reveals a second dream of his at the last minute, but that isn't happening. Not only is that uncharacteristic of Oda, but it would be incredibly lame as it just screams deus ex machina. Franky also has his family that he's responsible for. He's not the type of person to leave behind his family over a simple invite (actually, I think Franky just isn't the type of person to leave his family period). A simple invite is probably the only thing Franky can hope for from Luffy as he's done nothing at all to make Luffy go nuts over the guy. Let's face it, Luffy just isn't going to beg Franky to join the same way he begged Zoro, Sanji, Chopper, and Nami to join. Luffy seems to know right away the person he wants as a Straw Hat, and Franky just isn't that person.
I'm with those who say Oda is going to surprise us.
-

i meant the ship fetish as opposed to the side character thing. i just don't want to see another person in the whole of the series ever again treating a ship like a living breathing human being.

I don't understand what's the problem with the mugiwaras treating or Usopp treating it as a living breathing human being?

yeah that would, but i would find it fun, and franky coukd stay wit the franky family
