I get the feeling they cannot announce anything about the main series until they've released the specials they've be sitting on for awhile. The fact they had a 20th anniversary panel and that one of their voice actors hopes to continue voicing a character for several more years seems to indicate that Funimation will continue the dub (I doubt Funi would keep their voice actors out the loop). It's more likely that Toei is the one issuing their marching orders on what they can and cannot announce regarding the series despite the fact that Funimation had a panel to celebrate the 20th Anniversary for a show they adapted.

That's what I been thinking as well.

Welcome to the world, bitch!
Dude has something seriously mentally wrong with him and needs to go see a therapist dearly. Very sad.
-
I don't know, what's his problem. Roman been acting like this since like 2008 when Toonami's original run of One Piece ended.
-
If more dub episodes were released he'd probably continue saying that Funimation was close to cancelling the dub, despite evidence to the contrary.
-
Well, he’s been wrong for ten years, so that’s something. Hah.
-
Here's a run down of the panel from someone who was attending it:
Based on Patrick, Paul, and Josellie's responses it does seem like Funimation is interested in continuing to dub the series. As mentioned previously Toei is likely the factor as to why they haven't been able to release new episodes yet and possibly Stampede (likely until they finish the specials).
-
I don’t understand why releasing the specials would hold up the episodes or what grounds anyone has for thinking that.

I just finished Season 9 voyage 5 with my fam (life had been in the way of watching them as rapidly as we used to), and now because of no nenw release in 14 months I'm weighing up the decision of whether to just push on with the sub with them, which would then mean that I'd be unlikely to go back and buy new dub episodes if I've just watched them subbed.
Just doesn't seem like a sensible business decision tbh, and where were the tweets from VA dubbing Punk Hazard/ how many sources for it?
Maybe they're trying to get Chris Ayres to record Caesar and due to his recent health/ priority of being Frieza slowed them down
-
Bummer they didn’t announce anything at Anime Expo but it’s great that they had Seitz there, gives me the feeling that they’re telling dub fans that the dub is still alive, otherwise why bother bringing him along. They’re probably buying time to sort it out by pushing out specials. Wonder if they’ve still continued dubbing the series though. Probably not but it’d be fantastic if when it does come back it’s a bit further ahead than anticipated because boy am I excited for Wano.

So I came across this thread that has a list of all the anime titles that have been dubbed in 2019, and we're looking at over 100 entries so far with only half the year behind us (and keep in mind this list doesn't even include ongoing dubs that started before 2019, like Boruto, Black Clover, Pokemon, etc.). I think this proves that we are currently at the tippy-top of this anime boom, because I don't see this sheer amount of production being sustainable. If there were ever a time to ramjam through some more dubbed One Piece, it would be right now, because when this bubble pops and bull-run in the economy comes to its inevitable end, I think we are going to be in for some lean days like we were back in 2009-ish.

So OP is a difficult property to dub the ADR director needs to be familiar with the hundreds of episodes they've dubbed already; the ADR director also needs to be familiar with who has already been casted on the show (so they don't recast too often), and the ADR director needs to know a _lot_ of good and new talent (or hold auditions frequently to bring new voices on board). When Joel left, OP dub went down the shitter immediately. I guess they don't have enough directors to tackle such a big property and Mike is busy with other shows? Who knows. My only point is I wouldn't be surprised if losing Joel meant they're having a harder time finding time to dub it.
-
Currently, they are going need to recast three major characters (Blackbeard, Sengoku, and Sabo). If they going to dub Stampede anytime soon, they going to have time to recast Sabo right away. I won't be surpised if they dubbing of Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball Super is taking a lot of the time currently, since both shows have some of the cast members of One Piece as main characters espically with Dragon Ball Super.

All the more reason for them to dub OP, if the cast members are already in office… I'm not hopeful about them being back to work on OP. More likely they'll begin releasing PH before they begin dubbing Dressrosa. I was way too hopeful the other day, praying for a simuldub for Wano or a sudden release of a few PH dubbed episodes online. You'd think they'd try to do something special for the Anniversary... But time will tell. Though the panel passed, there will probably be more panels and the actual anniversary isn't until October.
-
Solicitations today, though I don't think we'll get anything this month from Funimation sadly, as they'd have announced it at AX.
Hopeful for November now, fingers crossed. -
No OP sales on Amazon Prime day. OP fans have had it rough lately regards dub. Doesn’t help that OP isn’t on any streaming services. My second cousin is getting into anime and watching Naruto and whatever else is on Netflix… can’t point him anywhere to start OP, especially in English since he’s so young.
-
As expected, no ONe piece releases for October

The full slate isn’t out. It’s only the first two weeks that’ve been announced.
-
Im going to be…SOME SORT... of Negative Nancy and say that if this delay was caused by Joel not working on the series anymore I very much welcome it. I may be biased because Im from Latin American and got used to waiting for dubbed material(13 years) but the anime is awful enough to be unwatchable if it lacks the actual quality of Voice Acting that the Japanese version has.
Also this beautiful piece of dubbing makes me feel certain that if its indeed due to Joel leaving it will all be worth it.
-
I think I was the first one critiquing Joel. That said, I don’t think he was the worst. He just wasn’t detail/consistency-oriented and didn’t seem to push his actors enough. He wasn’t a terrible director, just not an amazing one. I’d certainly prefer Joel-directed OP to no-OP.

I doubt One Piece will stop entirely. Even if Funimation for SOME reason cant keep on dubbing the show Toei wont give up on it.
Remember that infamous Case Closed show that everyone points out as Funimation's darkest hour?
Guess what?
…Damn I cant find any links! But Detective Conan had its latest movie DUBBED! YES! DUBBED! With none of that Jimmy Kudo crap. So dont give up hope.

)ull Comment:
“I’m not sure where things are currently at the moment. Part of that is the gap between when stuff gets recorded and when it comes out,” Seitz explained.
“I feel like part of that is my own general lack of sense of how time passes, and that's probably exacerbated by the fact that since I am one of the out-of-towners in the cast. When I am popping in for stuff, it is sporadic, so I'm not sure. I do get that question a lot though as far as when can we expect more dubbed episodes, and my answer is always hopefully soon.” -
follow up question should have been: what was the last (non movie/special) thing you recorded? Were you in PH? Do you remember snow?!?!?
(if he said he was in PH, obv. would have been a good sign .. if he was still in FI … not so much) -

Dubbed in English?
Are you sure you didn't accidentally come across this fandub of the trailer?

We know PH has been recorded, and it’s doubtful they’re working on Dressrosa. So asking him all that wouldn’t tell us much. He doesn’t know when episodes are coming out, so he’s no help. The most we get out of him is that he personally doesn’t think it’s canceled. But it doesn’t sound like he cares enough to ask.
-
So, the October Solicitations are now up - no One Piece. It's a shame Patrick Seitz wasn't asked what the last Arc he recorded for was.
-
Some 20th Anniversary, eh?

Whats the point of recording Punk Hazard and Dressrosa if they are not releasing those episodes?

That means they’re getting ready to release episodes and don’t want there to be another break between PH and DR. If they begin releasing episodes in 26-packs, as some folks think, they’ll burn through their already recorded PH episodes quickly.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
That is, assuming she’s working on it now as suspected.

I hope this means they are dubbing it now. They need to get more episodes out, switch from the voyages on to the collections moving forward. Maybe this is why they've had such a long hiatus - they've dubbed up until the end of Dressrosa?. Who knows, they may go bi-monthly for a while (like they did with Marineford) in order to get these out.

It seems like they’re just starting to dub Dressrosa now. That’s something like a hundred episodes. They’ll be busy with it for a while, so hopefully they’ll begin releasing PH before they’re done with a Dressrosa.

Hoping for PH in November then. Dressrosa is the longest Arc, so it is going to take a long time to get those out. I don't see them coming away from voyages then, as it won't suit them to do so.
-
I doubt they are going to the collection route for the series. Mostly due it wouldn't make sense at this point espically with the next collection would be the last volume of Season 9 and the first volume of Season 10.

I’d say it doesn’t make sense financially for them. Why put in double the work for nearly the same retail pricing? They’d have to up the retail price to make that worth it (which I am entirely fine with, btw).
-
Either way we're about 3/4 of a year I believe since the last physical release. It's time for them to start giving some kind of indication as to what is going on.

You mean a year and a half? May 2018 was the last episode release.

The Collections have a lower list price than the Voyages anyway ($35 vs $40), so inconsistent spines aside it wouldn't cost the buyer anything extra if they went strait to Collection 24. I don't think it's likely though.

Exactly. I’m talking about costs to the seller that don’t make it worth doing. Similar list price for them to dub and license double the episodes? Nah. Don’t see that happening.
