And here we go again! Generation 8, due late 2019 on the Switch!
Pokemon Sword and Shield - Galexit Edition
-
-
I'm pretty hyped, not only for the launch of the game later this year, but, for the marketing cycle (i.e. it's probably going to be similar to Sun & Moon, so we will probably be getting videos once a month until launch introducing new Pokemon, introducing new mechanics, 1, of which, is already rumored by a "leaker", showing returning mechanics (hopefully regional variants), showing off more of the region etc. etc).
Also, so far, though I got to see more, I'm probably going with either the Grass Monkey starter or the Water Salamander-thing starter.
-
More likely is a water chameleon, see the front claws.
-
Rabbit seems destined to go for some kind of sports theme, and Fire/Fighting AGAIN, (Maaaybe fire/ground?) so I'm probably going to go water starter once again.
Going just by game titles andnot knowing the exclusives at all, I'll probably go with Shield.
-

And the way it started out camouflaged? =P
I really like Scorbunny's design but I went with fire last gen so I'll probably pick a different one this time. It might depend on the later forms though because Sobble is kinda lame/boring to me and Grookey is, well, another monkey. Both have potential for great evolutions but also for not-so-inspired evolutions.
-

Lol, yeah. I wonder if it will get protean, or something like it.
By the way, GX has the story of the giant drawing in the ground, but my old english transcription abilities are lacking, so here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerne_Abbas_Giant kinda nsfw.
-
Sobble is my child.
-
For a open world game the map is pretty linear. But there's a lot in every corner, so I'm totally fine with this sense of progression from starting at the bottom and climbing up to the top.
-
Aw man, the starters haven't been good since gen 4. X and Y starters were pretty good again, but sun & moon's were pretty bad. Guess I'll go with grass monkey, that funky monkey.
-
The texture looks more natural, his face looks more round, eyes don't look soulless.
-
Scorbunny has the potential to evolve into either a fire/lightning or a fire/steel type. If they are going with the soccer theme, I go with the first option.
-
Huh. Just realized the "Scor" in Scorbunny can stand for Scorch or Score.
-
The Alola region feels like it came out yesterday. I expect more spin-off pokemon in this game too, among other things. I look forward to that, though it's not yet clear what the Galar region is based on.
Edit: Britain maybe?

Its based on the UK

I'm in love with that rabbit.
But I also love the monkey.
How do I choose?!?!EDIT: I also really like the logo design. Will the version legendaries both be wolf-themed?

In this comparison picture, the Let's Go one looks better by a landslide. It really pops and looks incredibly smooth/realistic in 3D. Despite having 0 interest in that game, I got pretty excited about the character and pokémon models and how they looked in combat. The Gen 8 screenshsot, on the other hand, looks like a cel-shaded mostly-2D mess. No better than 3DS really. I'm seriously hoping in the actual game it'll look and feel much better.
-
!
-
I usually go with the Grass type starter but damn that fire bunny looks cool
-
It should be noted that footage for the game is not definitive. Who knows how smooth it's going to look by the time it launches.
-
!
-
Adorable astonished, while contemplating its enemies demise. TeamfuckingSobble!

So if it is great britain upside down, you start in Scotland?
-
That's clearly Cornwall on the northwest end (and Isle of Man off to the right?), but the mountains and the wall up north are probably meant to invoke Scotland.
-
It looks like the cities/outline might be inverted but the terrain isn't.
-
Actually… My main choice is gonna be the Water-type Chameleon (little dude has really grown on me after closer analysis). Monkey is runner up, but still, gotta see more.
Curious what they will evolve into, what their sub-typing is going to be (I think it's VERY likely that that rabbit is going to be Fire/Fighting, it's been 2 generations without one afterall, which means the Chameleon is going to either be Water/Psychic (probably the likely choice) or Water/Flying (no way) or Water/Fairy (possibly, but we had that last generation)).

Water/dragon is also being speculated.

I realize something, I know shit about great britain. Where is Walles in poke-britain?

Either the mushroom forest place off to the left or the big tan building in the snow.
Or inaccessible mountains.
-
What excites me the most about this new gen is the tag line: "Forge a Path to Greatness", and the fact they said that this new set of games is mainly headed to us veterans.

On japanese version, Grookey is a "Infant/Small Monkey Pokémon". Much better. I mean… does GF even know what a chimp looks like?
The others are the same (Rabbit and Water Lizard).@The:

I was wondering about that myself. I was thinking about following the reveals only up to the starters (it happened to be on the very first reveal, so…) and for once in my life actually play a pokémon game not knowing at least 90% of the new pokémon/characters/mechanics in advance. It seems resisting the reveals would be easier if I started as soon as possible so right now would be the best time.
On the other hand, S&M "marketing cycle" was ridiculously fun and kept the hype for the game as high as possible the whole time and playing the games was still the best experience I had with a Pokémon game since Blue regardless of that. It was like the fun I had with the game not only wasn't diminished by the endless reveals, but instead was stretched and started many months before I could actually play it.

! If we get a Bunny reference I'll consider this intentional.
! >! Especially if it knows Explosion :ninja: -
I can't decide between the water and fire starters. I'm actually tempted to buy both versions..but it's probably better to wait for the inevitable sequels. Or better yet, I can get Pokebank again(which is hopefully free with the internet service) and start a new game with the other starter.
Has Fire Fairy happened yet? I'd like that as a starter. Scorbunny could take a weird turn like Popplio, you never know.
-
Water Dragon would be cool. Also I'm throwing out the possibility of the patch on the rabbit's nose eventually becoming steel plating on a sleek armor based evolution.
-
We might be getting some kind of racing dog Pokemon, possibly Electric-type, going by a logo that appears inside the soccer stadium.
-
I'm expecting a:
–Teacup / Teapot evolution line (either Water/Fire, or, Water/Fairy)
--An evolution line that has to do with a clock (Pure Steel-type or Steel/something, obviously)
--Some Pokemon or Pokemon line that takes inspirations from Leprechauns.
--A Unicorn psuedo-legendary or legendary, a Lion psuedo-legendary or legendary, and of course, a Dragon psuedo-legendary or legendary (these 3 beasts are important to UK legend and tales)
--A Pokemon line (or lines) to have to do with bands or music (since the UK is very well known for that kind of stuff)
--A bulldog Pokemon, a new one, other than Granbul and/or a sheep Pokemon other than the Ampharos line
--A new beetle Bug-type Pokemon line, since the UK has so many fucking beetles. -
At first I thought I would go for Fire-bunny, but looking at that lizard it's hard for me to decide now.
All I'll say is that there better be a damn Loch Ness pokemon.

Why not we need another PKMN sitting in a lake that's also rare :S
-
You know, Lapras BST is within the starter range and you know people always asked for it to get a pre-evo…
-
I'm really not feeling the water starter Pokémon which seems to be the opposite of everyone else's opinion lol (well he still has 2 more forms)
-
The starters look too samey.
-
OH, FU… YES! Grookey's french name actually acknowledges it as based on a marmoset... I thought I was just wishfully seeing the similarities (since a marmoset pokémon was the top thing of my pokémon wishlist), but now I can call it a day. I got what I wanted.
-
The starters look too samey.
Yeah, they all have round heads and the same kinds of noses, their eyes are all very similar. Practically the same kind of legs and feet, and same facial expression on all of them.
-
I knew something seemed familiar. -
OMG. OMG.OMG
I missed the past two generations - could never buy a 3DS or the games cuz i just didn't have the money which always had to go elsewhere cries
This time i will not miss out. I will get this game no matter. It loooks amaaaazzzing. Its based on the UK
Expect a lot of rainy weather in the game, especially as you go further north in this new region.
-
Now for the question that really matters. Is it going to be open world themed? The tagline seems to imply it will, but maybe I'm overthinking.
-
I want the rival to start friendly but to be an act and be a true asshole. I'm done with Hau/Serena/Tierno/Ceren/Bianca/Wally.
-

Don't think it's gonna be fully open world, maybe semi-open world.
Actually… I think the routes, cities and such are just gonna be the biggest and most complex they've been, but the game itself won't be open world.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh! Thought I would bring up a theory I've heard floated around:
This "chalk man" I've heard some people say it's another Meltan / Melmetal form–it's "true" / final form--because it has a single eye on it's head, seemingly, like Meltan / Melmetal, and, the little things below it, the little figures, look like Melmetals; Meltan / Melmetal will play a biggish part in the regions lore / legendaries basically.
