Wonder how well Chanterella would be able to tackle food shortage situations.
Infinite mushrooms would be useful for that

I like manga's quirk as a concept and as a power
I dislike his quirk (comicman, I am going with "him") as a quirk, because it is wildly outside the range of reality, it is not just sweat that explodes, or an afront to the laws of physics or thermodynamics for a simple effect like fire, ice or zero gravity.Interesting wins against consistent tho, and the manga itself wasn't consistent at all, just some heroes who lack the "required secondary powers" and have to adjust makes more interesting character development than super powerful quirks without consequences.
Well, maybe Manga runs out of ink now.I like the showcase of Class B quirks, I'll repeat myself, I want the whole gauntlet.
Yeah, Comicman's Quirk is based on artificial fiction instead of any properties that seem "natural". Although Iida has an exhaust pipe Quirk. It would be cool if Comicman's Quirk was explained as being a fusion of his family's Quirks based on more primitive natural forms of art like sound-based powers fused with paint/oil powers.
Comicman's power can easily suffer from Green Lantern-syndrome. Meaning that he could summon any type of plot convenient onomatopoeia effect no matter how random, inconsistent, and niche it is. And there's no way to tell its limitations without the author being ultra arbitrary.
I too much prefer powers that are based around one or two specific concepts and have that character adapt to those concepts' intuituve strengths, disadvantages, and versatility than stack on all-new powers to basically become invincible. Although I'm sure Horikoshi will come up with a weird obvious weakness for Comicman if Momo's team puts up a good fight.
@.access:
If Class A wins this, then by the fault of the "last match is the tie break match" rule, both Todoroki and Bakugou teams will have to lose… either way I am sure Class B is getting two victories out of the initial fights.
If we didn't already have Bakugo and Shouto fail the License Exam, I would be cool with Momo winning here. But Kendo can get a win to make her more interesting and lend Momo some more development. And since we almost completely skipped over how Bakugo lost the License Exam (we just got one panel of him yelling at a rescue victim actor) and Jirou just shined in the Culture Festival, I think Bakugo's team should lose.
I like Momo and Iida. They could be better, but their struggles, traits, and quirks have always been interesting to me. In fact, I'm not into how much Iida has been sidelined since the Stain arc. The other students like he did, but it's like his whole character arc is finished before the first year was even halfway through.
-
Bakugo losing again in a team based thing seems too predictable. Unless Horikoshi plans to use that as fuel for during the next test for the provisional license. Also since the test is a capture based test I think he'd lose it if he got captured again or let anyone get captured lol.
I kinda feel Deku needs to lose a team challenge. Especially since it has Ochaco on it. Give them something to talk about later.
Todoroki's team has 2 people on it who have practically zero development. Hard to say how it would go. I actually like Ojiro. I'm a wee bit tired of Todoroki lol. He's got development for eons. Iida I don't care much about. He's mostly just been silly.
Shouji is hit and miss for me.
-
I love Manga's quirk. It's as over-the-top as I hoped. Don't think its as op as it seems, maybe a stamina or "ink" issue. Would explain his mech suit. Anyway, love it.
It'd be awesome if Todoroki and Bakugou both lose but I don't think it's happening. But, I could see Momo winning her 1v1 and the rest of her team getting caught in the meantime. Kuroiro snags Dark Shadow, Mushroom girl keeps the other distracted while Manga cleans up.
-
I'm having trouble seeing how Shemage actually affects anything. Like sure, Hagakure being covered in mushrooms neutralizes her main advantage, but it's hard to tell if there's a serious downside to Tokoyami or Aoyama getting mushroomed.

I mean, what did you expect from a guy that has a speech balloon for a head? Dude was already born as unnatural as it gets.
It's no different from the guy that can shoot tape from tape dispenser arms. Or this poor guy that seemingly was born with a car horn in place of his tongue.

You laugh now, but wait until she becomes strong enough to grow Ophiocordyceps unilateralis.
-
Quirks using "natural" abilities was abandoned almost immediately.
-
Yeah, don't really get what the advantage of Mushroom girl's ability is, other than spread mushrooms to mildly irritate your opponents, I guess.
-
Not gonna lie I kinda want to see class A win all the matches just to see copy dude's reaction lol.

I was totally expecting a power like Koichi's Echoes, but not liking it from an aesthetic point of view of being unnatural is understandable for me. Although I don't mind it. Especially since like Cyan remarked the series has often been like this.
-
Wait until Mushroom Girl brings in the good shrooms.
Momo: WHY IS EVERYTHING BLUE AND FUZZY
-
Unrelated. I just saw a picture of Todoroki with an Ice Beard to spite Endeavor lmao. I can't believe that never occurred to me that would be a thing.
-
I think I would find comic´s quirk less odd if he could affect the mood aroung him by changing what it is in his face intead of making onomatopeyas real. That aside, I enjoyed the chapter, looking foward to Momo´s moment, but I hope Kendou gives a good fight (that said, she has shown really good tactical skills)
Yeah, don't really get what the advantage of Mushroom girl's ability is, other than spread mushrooms to mildly irritate your opponents, I guess.
She was naming different species of them, so she must be able of spreading the deadly by touch ones or make poisounous ones grow inside someone mouth, but she is a hero, so she can´t do that.
-
Mushroom Girl's Quirk is in the same category as Mineta's: fucks you up bad if she gets you in the right spot. Your eye sockets are now Destroying Angel.

Shoto's Final Form will involve a half-ice, half-fire ZZ Top beard.
-
@Cyan:

That would be really neat, but I always thought he should bring back his icy half from his original outfit, but now adding a full on fire side. In short, Shouto would look like this villain from Dragon Quest:
!
-
The icy portion of his original suit looked so awful lol.
-
All of Shoto's hero costumes are awful.
I know you hate your dad, man, but at least the guy knows what aesthetics are.

True lol. So far he's just gone from severely tacky to ultra boring. Boy needs to take a marketing class.

I actually think it's the most natural power a guy with a speech balloon head could have.
It's one of those cases where a character's design actually works with the Quirk they're given.
-
If he was American, Manga Kid would instead create giant POWs and ZOOMs and turn the battle into Batman 66.

I would love a whole arc dedicated to the meta sociopolitical intricacies and controversies behind superhero costume marketing.
I am 100% serious. The different superhero eras of suits, costume trends aligning with popular morality fads like anti-heroes, which types of costume aspects get censored, and superhero suit deficiencies like the capes montage in Incredibles.
Such an arc could even dig into how and why female superheroes often wear atrocious skimpy fanservice clothing whether for because they're forced, dumb, or practical for superpowers like Momo. That topic has loads of potential for comedy, worldbuilding, and tragedy that could strongly reference dress code controversies in real life. But expecting Horikoshi to ever write a story like that while Mineta exists is giving him way too much credit lol.
-
Ahaha. Yeah. Maybe in 2nd or 3rd year they can take electives under the other courses. Like gadget making or marketing. I actually would like to see that too. There's just so much to cover with this world setting. And at least some parts of it Horikoshi keeps in mind. Like some of the characters sharing costume designers (Bakugo and Ochaco). Or the kids liking a particular brand (Jiro's shirts, Deep something?). I just really like stuff that makes a world have a more grounded aspect to it.
I guess Midnight is supposed to be easing them into thinking about their brands, starting with the hero names. Iida, Todoroki and Bakugo still lacking one.
Then there's side comments about demographics for certain heroes. I guess when they're more in the field we could get more into their images and how they want to be seen or thought of.

Come on Hori, don't let class A win battles in succession. Let best girl Kendo shine.
Momo gets the win and class B wins by number advantage is my guess

That said, I am not really into this one for now. I don't know what it is, but I simply can't like Yaoyorozu... same for Iida, the both of them just annoy me too much. Hopefully the focus will shift to Hagakure and/or Aoyama before the match ends.
And I wonder how She Mage (HA!) passed the entrance exam if growing harmless mushrooms is all her quirk does.
Mushrooms in the gears maybe
-
Doesn't make much sense for Class 1-B to win this when they've been ahead for the entire match. Usually those things are all about overturning.
That's why Todoroki and Bakugou losing feels likely. You know they will lose control of the matches after being overwhelming at the start. There's also a point being made that they losing the provisional license and having to focus in supplementay lessons has slowed down their progress.
-
Random thought: Michael Winslow's Jones from _Police Academy_ with Manga's power.
.Also, introduce Manga
-
Class 1-B winning the two middle matches makes the most sense simply because that makes the last match with the main character involved more important than it would be if 1-A already has an advantage..

At the very least, I don't doubt for a moment that Deku's round will be a tie breaker
-
Wouldn't he just read the actual '60s Batman manga though?
Does it have the "BIFF"s?
-
-
It is not like a real tournament, class B wining something is just to make them seem less filler, and at least give them the relevance level of Ojiro.
-
Mushroom girl is fun.
I do worry about the author. During the war arc Oda was consistently doing shorter chapters, but that's because he was also working on the movie and because it was the war with a million characters per page.
A couple months back when we got that one half pencilled chapter at the end of the stageshow arc, that was understandable because everyone had to do two chapters in one week because of the holidays, he wasn't the only one to miss a beat there. But there's been a lot of short chapters since.
If the movie was getting ready to come out I'd attribute it to that, but since that's hit already I don't know. Is the workload and rising pressure as the new No. 2 series in Jump just burning him out after 4 years straight? Would switching him to a 3 week schedule like Oda make a difference? Or even a 4 week on 1 week off? Can he even afford to when the anime is as close behind as it is?
-
I'd guess they made the anime seasonal to reduce these kinds of worries.
-
I'd guess they made the anime seasonal to reduce these kinds of worries.
Even as a seasonal they've had to do way more filler this season than in past seasons… though maybe that's partly because they're trying to pace to end at a certain spot without opening up the next (lengthy) arc.
-
They kind of failed if that was the intention. The Bakugo fight was a better season end than whatever they get after that.
-
Dunno whether I should be worried or not.
On one hand, if Horikoshi was really tired he could've easily taken an actual break.
On the other hand, maybe the fear of losing fans is stopping him from taking one, which might cause him to hurt himself at this point.Would switching him to a 3 week schedule like Oda make a difference?
Oda is on a 4 week release 1 week break schedule, plus of course annual holidays in which the we get double issues, but that's beside the point.
Horikoshi hasn't built enough reputation to pull something like this for the rest of his serilization. -
The silver lining is that Horikoshi's art has not been faltering lately, due to the low page count.
It's a choice between quality or pacing.
-
I thought Episode #63 was a good enough ending for a season, although I imagine if the production had been healthier they could have extended some of the fights. The movie really hurt the entire season, especially since there was next to no time for Umakoshi or Nakamura to work on it. Ultimately, I don't really care where a season ends…although I'd be happy with more episodes original to the cartoon. Throw in an episode or two with All Might remembering a villain he fought during his youth so we can see that sexy face again, I say!
I'm not keeping up to date with the comic yet so I wonder how Season Four will cover the next set of chapters. Since it'll likely be another two cours I'd hope they cover at least fifty chapters, although I'd prefer seventy-five, but I figure they won't have enough chapters available for that.
-
I bet the fan that designed bubble girl must be happy seeing her animated and with a voice, hope Hori brings back her and the centipede guy later.
-

I would think doing additional classes would boost their skills not slow them down. That would be counterproductive if students were getting behind in their school's programs.
I forgot about that Centipede guy. I wonder if he's related to the dude in Class B.

Season 4(JP) has been confirmed

So I saw the MHA movie this past week. It was good, but pretty standard fare as far as anime movies go
! -The movie just follows the basic "heroes go to a new location and fight bad guys that are causing trouble" plotline, while also having a movie-only token girl. And there's a plot twist 2/3 through the movie that's pretty predictable
-Since it's a 90 minute film, they of course can't give screen time to every single character in Class A (though Infinity War managed to do it pretty well), but all the fan favorites get a good amount of attention, including Bakugo, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, Kirishima (though not Tsuyu who only gets a few seconds of screen time). Oh yeah, and Mineta's here for some reason.
-Also, the animation is…pretty basic. The fight scenes are cool and all, but mostly it just feels like TV series-level quality.
-Godzillo was probably the funniest/coolest moment of the film
-Mostly I feel this movie suffers from a lot of missed opportunities. Like how could would it have been to show off the powers of the superheroes. Hell, I would've killed to see Godzillo in action (though they can probably only afford to have him as a brief cameo)
! So yeah, if you're a fan of the series, it's a good way to spend an afternoon/evening, but don't go in expecting too much. -
I would think doing additional classes would boost their skills not slow them down. That would be counterproductive if students were getting behind in their school's programs.
The idea is that they're missing on weekends and resting time to attend exhausting classes.
-
Came back from seeing the movie as well. Ill give a spoilerless synopsis.
The story while pretty basic has a lot of good moments throughout. The action is good throughout and great at times and the jokes were funnier than I expected for the most part. Despite being something that didnt throw my mind about a ton I really liked all the care that was put into this show and all the heart that was put into it.
Personally I liked it more than any of the OP movies.
-
I'm sooooo looking forward to what happens when copy guy meets up with Deku
-
Since it's a 90 minute film, they of course can't give screen time to every single character in Class A (though Infinity War managed to do it pretty well)
Infinity War was two and a half hours long, had all its setup done in other films, and was only half a movie.
-
This dude wraps up Bakugou's character arc until the end of the anime season. Same points we have been making for a while, in an easily digestible format.
-
The Naruto comparison is a different take.
