Rare pokémon should be rare… it should be exciting and unexpected to find them, and not instant gratification when you know where they are. Kind of like getting hidden abilities by chaining wild encounters (though in that case it WOULD be nice to have a less cumbersome way of telling if they are HA). The main thing that was horribly implemented in S&M was fishing. Even when the fishing spots were splashing there was like a 95% chance or higher to get a Magikarp (or occasionally some other equally-lame mon) just about EVERYWHERE in the game, and that might be after 17 times in a row of the game telling you nothing bit the line. I can think of a couple exceptions where there's a 50% chance of getting a Luvdisc or something but otherwise boy does the game discourage you from fishing.

The evidence is on the 20+ years old, blue and yellow pokemon logo that the global face of the pokemon company hasn't dared to change.
That and the "be more mobile" at a 60$ tag.
-
I think the nature system (or at least how Pokemon with certain natures are caught or hatched) needs some serious rethinking.
While I agree with Foolio that some are rewarding to hunt for, getting a bad nature on your starter and having to play through 20 minutes of tutorial again only to find that your new starter's nature is just as bad is an awful experience.
-
You have to have that 10% boost against the super easy main game right?
-
It doesn't matter how easy the game is, a debilitating nature just triggers something awful inside a person, some unbearable uneasiness, it must be expurged (it doesn't need to be the perfect, though. Just not the polar opposite).
-
It was like a 5-minute reset max in S&M (I think shorter in Ultra?), and the odds of getting a truly detrimental nature are pretty low. And we're talking about general balance and quality of life, not obsessive resetting for the right starter. That's really on the player lol. Hatching has a way to guarantee nature so I don't see how you can complain there, and if for some reason you're trying to catch something competitive in the wild there's also Synchronize.
-
I like the nature system. And the IVs and EVs… back when they were completely hidden. It made the monster your own, it was what you caught and its final strengths were the results of your adventures and where you used them.
But then people cracked the code about how WHAT you fight determines what you actually level up.... and then they started color coding natures so you could actually tell when was being strengthened and what was being weakened, and then they started letting you just train EVs.... heck the last game let you send them to a spa that did it for you overnight. But the actual games are so easy there's really no reason to do that unless you're playing other people.
If you're playing competitive you'll have to breed the hell out of them anyway to get perfect IVs so you'll be breeding in a different nature when you get to that point anyway, so it doesn't even matter. But I like the wild first one you meet being whatever you happen to get and I'm usually fine with that.
Barring the cases where they have different abilities and the ability can be way better on a different mon, in which case sometimes its the third one you get. But I usually try to psuedo nuzlocke. I don't stick with the dying clause but I do just use whatever the first version of a critter I find is.
-
Aparently, once you get the nature, attacks and abilities down, it's easier now to hunt for bottlecaps and get to lvl100 to use them.
I have no plans of ever doing it again tho. Maybe if I can get some money or rewards for breeding mons.
-
I had an infinite supply of bottle caps in Sun and Moon just by continuously replacing my 2-star lottery to guarantee one on the next draw.
-
My only grip with natures is that I wish you could see the summary of the wild pokémon you are battling, so you could know instantly is it has the nature you are looking for instead of using 30 pokéballs on that legendary before finding up "nope, wrong nature. reset"
-
Wait, IS THAT FUCKING SHINJI MIYAZAKI. Please let this be a sign that the dub is actually keeping the original music, and not just a sign that Ed Goldfarb simply couldn't be bothered to compose a trailer theme… -

We would have the elitist veterans coming out of the bushes screaming "muh pokiman is being casualized", if such a feature were to be implemented.
-
So apparently Mega evolutions are ingame, there was a rumour that surfaced like last week that said mega evos and Z-moves would be ingame, not sure if this was a coincidence, but if it wasn't I guess Z-Moves will also be in it.
-
CoroCoro confirmed LGPE will have the Mega and yesterday there was news that Nintendo had re-trardemarked some pokémon names (Arbok, Raichu, Persian, Machamp, Golem, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Hitmontop (!), Weezing, Starmie, Jynx, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, and Dragonite) which led people to believe those pokémon could be getting Mega evolution because something similar happened before XY.
I do remember something similar happening on XY, but I can't find the list from back theN to check how much it matched with the pokémon that got a Mega evolution.
-
Lol Mega Evolutions. We can have Mega Evolutions and Alolan variations but we can't even have post-Gen I evolutions of any Gen I Pokemon. Makes complete and total sense.

Mega evolutions don't take up dex space.

Mega evolutions don't take up dex space.
That is true, but I think for a game that so many are saying we have to be okay with having to deal with the lack of any non-Gen I Pokemon (except for the one they are yet to reveal) with the justification "They're just being true to the original", they really aren't being true the original. They're putting in every other kind of later generation variation of Pokemon that exists except for pre-evolutions/evolutions, etc.
I'm just saying it is irritating. They're being very liberal with this kind of stuff, even in the main game. Meanwhile, later generation Pokemon won't even exist in the game post-E4. A noticeable step back from Fire Red/Leaf Green and any other Pokemon remake we've ever gotten. But we can have Mega evolutions and Alolan Variants… Just because. These games make no sense, and it's only making the lack of non-Gen I Pokemon even more annoying.
-
i'd rather have stuff like pichu, espeon, and umbreon than two more charizards

If we are getting New Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Lets Go then i will buy the game :D
-
The game seems so easy as it is already, tossing in mega evolutions feels like overkill and will probably trivialize the heck out of most trainer matches.
Wonder if there will be ways to make the experience a bit more difficult. Maybe catching as little as possible will limit experience and make it more of a challenge.
-
If this gam has megas. I am buying.
New megas that is.
-
-
-
Do Megas "count" as new Pokemon in Gamefreak's eyes?
Probably not in ours, but Gamefreak does call them new pokemon.
-
So while megas are in, have we confirmed abilities are still in the game?
I haven't seen any images of Pokemon screens with abilities, or gameplay with them being activated. I can easily seem them taking it away to make this even easier, and similar to Gen 1.
-
What I understand is that there’s no abilities or Pokémon holding items .
Making the inclusion of Mega Pokémon kind of redundant -
I'm thinking on getting an european 2ds, and ultrasomething to trade everything valuable (mostly the ditto harem, select nostalgic mons, the swarm, the legit legendaries, and whatever is unavailable on the next gen games) through the pokebank. It all depends on my options next year.

So I'm on vacation in Japan right now, and the other day I went and saw this year's Pokémon movie. Now, I had my hopes up that it might be a step in the right direction for this overall stagnant movie franchise, but I also had prepared myself for it being just the same old with a slightly different coat of paint…
I absolutely loved it. This is the best Pokémon movie we've had in years. Like, personally I'd say it's the best one I've seen since Entei, but do bear in mind that I've never seen 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16, so obviously my pool of reference is somewhat limited here. But for once we have a Pokémon movie that actually feels like a proper movie, where every character has a distinct role to play, nobody gets particularly overexposed, and while the plot still has a lot of familiar beats (not just in terms of Pokémon movie tropes, but just kids' movie tropes in general), it's all put together in a way that feels refreshingly different from the overly formulaic movies we've been getting almost every year for the past two decades. Also, Zeraora is utilized so much better here than Marshadow was last time, though to be fair, that's not exactly hard to do. Though, [completely serious complaint]it is completely ridiculous that at no point did they ever have Zeraora unleash a rapid flurry of punches while going "ORA ORA ORA ORA". That reference writes itself, dammit![/completely serious complaint]
…In actual flaws though, I feel like one of the characters' arcs resolves itself a bit too neatly and quickly, but being that this is a movie that essentially has six main human characters, most of which also have at least one Pokémon with a character arc of their own, the fact that one of them feels a bit undercooked is hardly the end of the world. Just the fact that they even managed to pull off a movie that actually lives up to the title of "Everyone's Story" is pretty damn impressive. Also, if the dub trailer featuring Japanese music is not a fluke, and the dub actually does keep the original score, I am buying the English DVD of this movie. This is something I'd already decided before I even saw it just because I want the dub to move into the 21st century already, but now that I've seen the movie and can confirm that it's actually good, I'm definitely going to support them if they finally do it right again after four years of "Orchestrated music from the games? Fuck that, let's do a Mickey Mouse style soundtrack made with zero real instruments instead!"
-
-
I want a new Pokemon Ranger game. Having Mega Evolutions occur in mid-capture would add a new element to the gameplay an increase the challenge which would be cool to have. I like how a successful capture depends upon the player's skill and not just blind luck, so I had wished the regular games would do something like that but as far as I know, they haven't yet. And having it on the 3DS would be neat too, even if you sometimes have to hold your face closer to the screen when doing a tough capture.

Bimonthly wish of "more dept instead of more mons":
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
-
I'm down for absolutely ALL of that!
-
Yeah, the Monster Rancher breeding system woulda been great if they started implementing it 18 years ago. Little late now.
Though I guess one given mon could maybe do that as their gimmick. They already had the 4 variant cheerleader birds (whose moveset doesn't change with the type so what's the point…)and seasonal deer....
-
Yah, just start with a few, in a way that they can ditch it if it doesn't work, like megas, or alolan forms, or babies, or side formes.
-
well, at least hm slaves are still gone. That's one change i hope Gamefreak keeps, like infinite use TMs
-
So it's confirmed there are no held items or abilities in these games.
That's the nail in the coffin for me. I'm passing on this game. And it really is a shame. I understand they want to attract the more casual crowd Go gathered, but the cost of the game is valued way higher then the content is worth.
You can get a Kanto game with only 151 Pokemon with no abilities, held items, or breeding. You can get it on your 3ds right now, for like a third of the cost of Lets Go.
I'm sorry but this seems like such a rip off at this point that it's just disheartening. I get that it's not the main series game to succeed USUM, but it sucks that the first outing on the Switch for a Pokemon game that mostly resembles a main line Pokemon game is simplified beyond belief.
But hey, your Pokemon can follow you and you can mega evolve without items. Totally worth the price of the game. Better buy both.
-
It is acomplishing it's true objective of being food (money) and fundation (building up the engine and models) for the next generation.
Can't blame it for existing with that point of view, unless it overtakes the main series.
-
As I've said before I have no issue with Let's Go unless I see these sorts of changes in the next game. On it's own it's no worse than the countless other Pokemon spinoffs in this mega franchise. It's not disrupting the generational cycle (ie Gen 8 is coming next year, three years after Sun/Moon). If this can win over some Go players to give the main series a chance then good for them.
-
I knew I was skipping these games as soon as the names leaked, to be honest, so unless they bring changes to the regular games I don't really mind whatever they do (I will still be judgemental about it, though).
My only problem with Let's Go is that I am getting the impression rather than riding on the new surge of popularity pokémon got thanks to PokémonGO, this will actually make the hype fade away as most players may take 2018 as a "lost year".
-
The point was made earlier that it wasn't 100% clear who this game was designated towards (weren't most GO players those from the Gen I riding a comfy wave of nostalgia?). I was interested when it was first revealed but I don't think it's worth the $60 price tag to go to a gimped, casualized Kanto when I can experience the adventure for much cheaper.
Maybe if i had a young nephew or something to play it with, but nope. At the very least it's Gamefreak working under Switch hardware to smooth out any rogue edges for Gen 8 next year.
Now Town on the other hand, I'm interested in seeing more of that.
-
So, apparently there is a new pokémon appearing in PokémonGo. By the looks of it, the wild pokémon are being replaced by it, but when you capture it it turns into a Ditto or whatever…
Here you can see a video of the whole thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/9hxom6/encountered_the_new_pokemon/
(don't get your hypes up, it looks terrible)!
-
! I think it actually looks kind of cute, but it isn't anything to get hyped over. It look like a completely random mon you'd find 70% of the way into the gen 8 pokedex, and not something "important" like a Starter, a (Pseudo)Legendary, or a evolution of an old Pokemon. So I have not idea why this of all things was used to promote the game.
-
Eugh, it's starting at me. :/

I think someone just f’d up and it wasn’t suppose to spawn.
Now marketing people say it was a tease or something but I highly doubt it. Makes no sense that it’s spawning all of a sudden without any promotion and after capture it turns into Ditto. -
According to Serebii some of the ones that spawned in Asia turned into Kecleon.
-
Its "tail" is the same shape and colors as Kecleon's stripe.

-
It's not ugly ugly, but it fits as the token "Gamefreak has run out of ideas" fuel that every generation needs.

So it’s called Meltan and it’s mythical -
When was Magearna teased? Was it around this month, too?
