It is nice that Bellamy doing something that doesn't involve violence and seems to enjoy it ,i suppose this flag will substitute the one they lost at WCI.
Chapter 917: The Treasure Ship of Provisions

I see this as the supernovas arc, not shs arc. SHs will get what is left of big mom pirates in Elbaf. Now luffy and the worst gen take kaidou. And luffy already gets the major battle, kaidou himself, also calamity feels too much. Hawkins, Kller, Apoo, xdrake take on king and queen, zolo shogun. I want mink kings to take on jack, but I would not bet on it at this point.
Big Mom is coming to Wano though.
She left days after luffy at best, so I don't see how she will make it in time. And had jimbe and fishmen, germa and stuff to deal with, katakuri and cracker defeated, castle fallen, before she can worry to pack her bags and leave. If she even does what she says.

If Luffy is already 100%, there is no reason to expect Katakuri and Cracker (or anyone else who fought in WCI) to still be in recovery. We know Jinbe will make to Wano in time, so there is no reason to not expect BM to not be able to do the same (not to mention how "weird" it would be for Oda to build up her presence in Wano only to go "damn, she arrived too late").
The only way BM is not making to Wano is if someone gets on her way and takes her down before she gets there, which would be a big game changer and could work. But for now, the logic assumption is she is going to get there at some point in this arc.
-

There is no real reason for Big Mom to not do what she literally said she would. There's even that one panel where the Strawhats are convienently unaware of the news related to Big Mom as they approach Wano.
As for making it on time, that's not an issue. For one thing, we don't know how long this arc will take in-universe. Additionally, not everyone is here anyways. We're missing Nekomamushi's squad, as well as Momo and the Minks that are with him. Zoro is also the only one that knows Luffy's group is here, so I'm not even sure if Momo's group would show up before that. Then there's also Jinbe. And on top of that, it's possible that figures like Weevil and Moria could even make an appearance. So it's fine for Big Mom to be "late". It's likely what Oda wants anyhow, since it'd be wise to show the gist of the Beast Pirates before she shows up and complicates things.
Who Big Mom will bring with her is another matter entirely, but it's been made perfectly clear that she's coming.
-
This arc is going fast, luffy already made a mess and got the attention of kaidou's men since he got on the island. Jack himself is said to show up when holdem gets defeated. Bm has to recover full days of travel, so I don't see how kaidou would still be unaware of luffy in wano for days.
And it's clear that 1 yonkou is more then what they can handle, having 2 here against luffy is too much. They had to run from one and leave ALL their allies behind, even new nakama, so now oda gives them 2 at the same time??? Everything about BM screams Elbaf.
-
One complaint: I couldn't understand what happened to Speed? Was she defeated?
One cute thing: Bellamy drawing the flag. Oda seemed like he had fun drawing a One Piece version of his workplace.
-
So what's with the fire spitting lion from the spoiler?
Chimeras were said to spit fire, so this likely influenced Oda in picking this design choice I'd say.

Whether they are causing a ruckus early on or not, the arc can't end before Momonosuke, Inuarashi and Nekomamushi arrive, which means the arc will at least have one more day.
Don't forget that Big Mom knew Luffy arrived on her territory immediately and Whole Cake island arc was still 4 days long.
Furthermore, if the Strawhats manage to defeat Kaido that quickly, we won't get the speculated surprise of knowing everything that happened in Reverie once the Strawhats leave Wano, since the Reverie wouldn't have ended yet.
Last but not least, Big Mom arriving at Wano could be another Kuma situation, so saying she won't be therr because our heroes can't handle such forces is false, since her presence doesn't dictate for her to be actually defeated. -
Hey mates!! Sorry for the late update. I was in college when the Chapter dropped. I started working on it like 6 hours after the chapter release. Anyways here is it finally. Do Enjoy the reactions!!

I'm starting to think Kaido won't be the final big bad of this arc after all. There's been no mention of him being on the island at all – but now we got a Jack namedrop in his place. Seems like Jack and Orochi (with all their subordinates/Headliners/Calamities) will be our main Wano villains. I can't imagine why Kaido would be pushed back again, but it sure is shaping up that way. Maybe for a future Kaido/Big Mom alliance war against the Strawhat fleet a la Marineford?
-
There's that snowy island with that black mountain with horns in the background that might be Kaidou's actual base, but it'll probably be same arc if we go to another island to fight Kaidou himself.
-
The people of Wano are too proud to cry from hunger but somehow they can allow themselves to get taken over by a pirate crew? If they were as proud as they claim to be they would have enacted operation scorched earth where they burn down everything and use the advantage of knowing their homeland to fight back. Basically be like Russia against Germany. It's just such a glaring contradiction.
I don't think it's necessarily a contradiction. Pride can manifest in multiple ways. Maybe in this situation pride for them is silently baring the weight of their much-too-strong oppressors without raw displays of emotion or violent outbursts that would endanger their friends. Also, the people of Wano are likely to all have slightly different attitudes. Nothing that's happened so far has contradicted the idea that generally speaking, they are a prideful people and that, culturally speaking, they aren't supposed to cry.

kevo_koma is clearly unaware of Japan's history of pride.

Another nice chapter to build off 916. I liked the design of Speed and I'm curious what kind of fighting style she brandishes. Zoro and Luffy continue to be unworried about Okiku because she has shown herself as strong. Shuten Maru seems like an interesting guy so far and elementary power scaling means he wont be a chump. The jack return news was very interesting I was expecting him to show up at wano but to have him have shown up recently was very interesting. Loved the Luffy Red Hawk to the face, first red hawk to the face we've seen so far.
But the favorite part of this chapter was law and his basket over his head. First his mustache disguise and now this. Hawkins is confused though.
-
Well didn't like the chapter… Would have prefered that Zoro would do the action instead of Luffy.
And I hope we will soon move on and/or show the other SHs
-
so;
https://jaiminisbox.com/reader/read/one-piece-2/en/0/917/page/20does it mean that "speed" is a centaur with a human female body linked to a a male horse body?
that would be quite LoL

-
I want to see zoro or sanji take jack
At this point he's small fry compared to luffy. It would be a waste to have them fight
Law can take apoo/drake/hawkins
I want Zoro to take on a very big bounty too. He's not been properly challenged in a very long time. I miss the good old fights where he was pushed to his limits like vs Daz Bones, and even Kaku…
Though i much rather see Zoro vs the Shogun.
-
So, I see that people are questioning the Beast Pirates and comparisons are already being made to the Big Mom Pirates.
Here's the thing, we already know Kaido has a lot of trash, a LOT of trash who are being fed these SMILE fruits. It's always been a numbers game for him. Whereas, with Big Mom most her crew comprises of her own children, they got that Big Momma DNA giving them an inherent headstart to life lol so it kind of makes sense her crew will have more formidable underlings. BUT, while there's more quality in her crew it's far more spread out, after Katakuri the power level (for lack of a better thing to call it by) drops significantly. I suspect with Kaidos crew his 3 Calamities are all Katakuri level, relatively speaking. Besides, there is also the misconception from the last arc that Big Mom was the weakest of the Emperors, that's why there's this expectation that the Beast Pirates are going to be on another level, well guess what? No they're not they're going to be on roughly the same level because if they were any stronger there wouldn't even be this deadlock with other Emperors to begin with, one would make a move on the other for a bigger slice of the cake. So, what I'm saying is, pipe down and enjoy the ride, the monstrosities are coming and we all know that, 5th emperor Luffy is going to plough through everything until he at least meets Jack and then the whining will be about "he just beat Katakuri, why he struggling?" Chiiiilll.
-
1- Luffy was badass. It's kind of funny to see Oda drop any pretense that Luffy is not above everyone else and see what he can actually do. And it's probably the first time his speed was properly shown against an opponent.
2- Oda is wasting his face expressions. When he uses that really graphic expression for taking care of someone like holdem it kinds of take away the impact of when he does it to the next charlos or other significant moment.
3- Jack is back. I cannot say I look forward to him fighting a strawhats since up to this point he has only been a failure. There's no hype there for me. However I would really like a fight between him and the 2 rulers of Zou due to their past history.
4- Wano feels small. At least to me. It really feels way to small and almost empty.
5-Speed looks nice. I wonder how her sexual life is going. With Holdem that's the second member of the crew I wonder how their sex life have been ruined by their fruit. Now they probably have to find people to rape if they want to get some.
6-I'm gonna guess Holdem fed a fire breathing fruit to the lion on his belly.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@.access:
That aside, I am just a bit worried about the Beast Pirates portrayal so far. It is no surprise that no one below the Calamities can put up a direct fight against Luffy, but still I would have hoped for some sort of resistance (people talked about the BMP incompetence, but we saw plenty of names there being able to give Luffy or Sanji trouble). Maybe Oda is purposefully letting the hype die down so when a Calamity wreaks havoc it takes us with out guard down… I hope so, at least.
The Big Mom pirate were incompetent not weak. I'm fairly sure there was little overlap between people saying they were weak and peeople saying they were incompetent. You don't have to be weak to be incompetent. They are not the same thing.
-
Thought it was forbidden to have Kozuki Clan symbols around, its apparently not.
jack is back, I'd agree that he's fitting on to fight the minks tho, Sanji deserves some as well.
another thing, this arc wont end the very same day Luffy arrived, it needs to drag Jimbe, The Minks, Momo, Zunisha and likely Moria, Weevil, Marco and the grand fleet.
not to even mention, the minks will do sulong here, whenever the next full moon comes in, we'll be in Wano at least for that amount of time.(unless someone can make a fake moon ala Vegeta in DBZ) -
Satisfactory chapter. My favorite part was buckethead Law.
I’m surprised how many people were expecting more fight out of Holdem. The guy has been played as a joke since his proper introduction, and is the same rank as Sheepshead, who got taken out in one kick by Sanji. Guys like Hawkins (and presumably the other Supernovas) always seemed like the outliers to me. If we get any other strong Headliners Oda would properly highlight them, like he did at the start of the Wedding with Daifuku, Oven, and Perospero
and Compote.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Come to think of it, do we even know if Holdem is down for good? I remember similar cliffhangers (like during the Cracker fight) where people thought the bad guy was beaten, but wasn’t.

There's this:
In Ch. 911, Hawkins also tells his men not to report the intruders to Kaido. No idea why people think he's not there, or won't be the main antagonist. You can't exactly liberate Wano if he's not defeated…
Even then, why would Jack be the primary threat when there's two other Calamities likely stronger than him?
3- Jack is back. I cannot say I look forward to him fighting a strawhats since up to this point he has only been a failure.
Seems pretty harsh. His first loss was to two admiral-level opponents and a vice admiral. It exists to establish his recklessness, anyone that's not a Yonko should realistically lose such a matchup.
After that, he got crushed by Zunisha, but that's a massive elephant, not exactly a conventional confrontation, can't really hold it against him. We've hardly seen what we could do, so I dunno, dude still has plenty of hype left IMO. Especially if he has any Fishman-related abilities to reveal, not to mention Awakening.
4- Wano feels small. At least to me. It really feels way to small and almost empty.
It's funny you say that in this chapter, since it was revealed that Jack controls the Kuri region. This implies that there at least two other regions that the other Calamities control. Wano is definitely a lot bigger than you're assuming.

@.access:
Luffy dropping O-tama to attack Holdem. Obviously with his speed he can catch her back before she hits the ground, but I wonder if maybe he will just forget her and this will tie in with how bloodlust he is seeming in the last chapters (meaning he is not being his true self because of the cursed sword he is carrying).
I hadn't noticed the montage of Tama falling in the last page spread, and that struck me pretty hard since something's definitely not right about that.
-
But Luffy doesn't even need to move his own body to catch her, he can just shoot out his arm to yank her back before she hits the ground, and given how he and Zoro just pulled a Sonic the Hedgehog speed play this very chapter, it's not as though Luffy's in any danger of having too little quickness to do it in time.
Speed's centaur body got me all tingly, probably because the front part of her is still entirely human and she's just got a horse butt instead of horse legs in the front since we've seen an actual centaur girl back in Punk Hazard and she didn't really do it for me (but I still like Charlotte Cinnamon best). I do like the two-tone hair, as well. Hopefully she's more than a throwaway character but with Holdem being such a pushover, I doubt it. Loved seeing his lion's tooth getting broken, let's see him grow that back by drinking a glass of milk, LOL.
Hawkins really needs to work on his motivation. Are you loyal to Kaido or are you trying to undermine him? If the former, dude, call for backup, lamebrain. If the latter, you could not ask for a better way to take on Kaido than having Luffy at your back, so stop being such a tool. He obviously isn't the most effective person at reading into the future as Luffy defies his odds regularly so he needs to get with the program and see Luffy for the living miracle that he is.
-
The acrobatic firefighters was one of the funniest things Oda has ever done.
-
Law thinking he can just get rid off Hawkins. I know Law is strong but Hawkins isn't Holdem or Sheepshead either.
their encounter gives me the 'Teach-Shillew' vibes.aaand Speed is the only one left between Luffy and a bunch of delucious and safe food so, sorry Speed, but you're getting Urashima/Holdem treatment as well.
-
Any bets on who the thief is? I'm betting an old character, not a new one. This chapter was pretty fun–I like following the multiple stories at once--but I'm waiting for the arc to get more interesting and complex. We've seen all this before.

I doubt it's a member of the alliance using a fake name because their was a theft several weeks ago before the Strawhearts ever arrived -

How perfect that Zoro and Luffy have Kiku around to wail on Speed without anyone having to look misogynistic. LOL.

So, pinching in the cheek is a no go for Luffy? The girl starved and nearly got bitten in half. Guess the Garp abuse left a mark on him :ninja:

Well in her demonstration of the ability, she did it herself, so there's probably a trick to it that isn't merely mechanical. Come to think of it, maybe she's got the ability to produce something that will endear herself to whoever's around her and it makes different things depending on who she needs to get on her side.
-

I don't think he is weak.
I'm simply not hype about fighting someone that has been presented to me as a loser. I look forward to seeing someone that was dominating be brought down. I don't really feel that exitement forsomeone that has already been taken care of multiple times. He doesn't have an aura of invincibility that I am wondering how how character will overcome. When a feat has already been realized by many people it loses it's bluster.
Which is why I prefer if he face he rulers of Zou because I would be invested in the retribution rather than caring about wether or not the obstacle is formidable.

MAybe in the future I might change my opinion. But with a single factory a couple of people around and already meeting so many pirates. I feel I am watching a show that's trying to do scale but is on a budget. first time this happen to me in one piece. I really the place is waaay to empty.

Even then, why would Jack be the primary threat when there's two other Calamities likely stronger than him?
But where is "here"? I don't think we're ever explicitly told or shown WHERE Kaido is. The last time he was shown it was definitely not Wano. He can be reported to via den den mushi; doesn't have to be in person. I'm also guessing the other Calamities are more spread out throughout his territories; why would he focus all his strongest forces onto one country?
For the record, I hope I'm wrong, cause I don't want this whole Kaido chase to keep being stretched out.BUT, while there's more quality in her crew it's far more spread out, after Katakuri the power level (for lack of a better thing to call it by) drops significantly.
Just because Smoothie didn't get to do anything doesn't mean she CAN'T do anything. Luffy would have also been in a lot more trouble against Cracker if it hadn't been for Nami.
Just sayin'.. Half of the BM children are stronger than anyone we've seen from Kaido's crew yet outside of Jack.Besides, there is also the misconception from the last arc that Big Mom was the weakest of the Emperors
What idiot has been saying this?
-
@Miss:

For the record, I hope I'm wrong, cause I don't want this whole Kaido chase to keep being stretched out. What? That whole convo, as well as the Marines panicking over it, made it clear that they're all talking about Wano. Big Mom is going to Wano, because she knows Luffy is headed there. Kaido tells her not to come here, again clearly indiciating that they're talking about Wano. The Marines are panicking over two Yonko potentially meeting up at Wano, with Akainu considering whether or not he should send Kizaru there. Seeing all of that, only to come to the conclusion that Kaido isn't there, makes no sense.
The last time he was shown doesn't matter. This is the most current thing we've been given. And again, the whole objective of the arc falls apart if he isn't there.
As for his forces, Big Mom literally does the same thing with Totland. Just like Totland, Wano is where Kaido and the crew all live, as seen in Ch. 818. Whatever other territories they might have, they wouldn't need a Calamity to rule over it anyways. As we've seen with Big Mom and Whitebeard, just the jolly roger itself is good enough when you're a Yonko. Even then, a Calamity is overkill, it'd be a Headliner if anything. Like how the cyborg Scotch guards one of Kaido's favorite winter islands.
-
This is what Wano needed. We knew Kaido and Orochi existed as threats, but naturally we knew they would only come into play quite a bit later in the arc. With Jack being the ruler of Kuri, the fear of a large threat approaching is much more tangible.
I actually did not expect Jack to be mentioned this soon and possibly coming into play this soon at all, so nice Oda. While we all know Wano is going to be an arc of unprecedented massiveness, you do need to hook a reader early, and Oda did it within the first 10 chapters thanks to this chapter. I thought it'd take 20 honestly.
Very needed chapter! Thanks Oda.

READ THE CHAPTER 916 Review/Reactions HEREThanks a lot for those. I always read them, since I miss a lot of stuff on the first read.
I think you over Sexualize things a little bit lol. Like those guys were just brimming with confidence and you thought they were looking at her privet parts. They probably saw Speed many times already. I doubt that's Oda's intentions .
The other one about raping O'Kiko was also unnecessary, did you also think like that when Urashima sent his men and they were carrying her?Just my observations

Those were fish(Japanese castles, famous ones, so Wano), not horns. It has been discussed here since that chapter came out. People even thought Wano was a winter Island. It could have all 4 seasons on different parts of the Island(s).

There you have Kaido, King, Queen and Jack beyond some strong samurais (Orochi?). Please Oda let a SH other than Luffy take down one of this big guys.
Nice chapter

So if law tries to cut hawkins into pieces( like he did to vergo) can hawkins transfer that to his fodders like he does with normal damage? Since this is not real damage, just fruit power.

The sexual things are just out of boredom, dont take everything i say seriously. Won't do it next time. And yes about the horns, I didnt knew exactly about it so yeah my bad. But i read it somewhere that the roofs of Japanese houses are curved for that purpose which i have mentioned. Also there was one more superficial reason( protection from evil spirits)…Anyways thank you for reading.

Ok so I did some research on the Karakuri sword and I got a big hit.
The Katana used by holdem is this.
Not only is it the exact same but in the Katanagatari series the sword is roaming around in the form of a Karakuri Ningyou which means Mechanical doll.
"It is the most human-like blade with the ability to think by itself and adapt to any situation"
I'm 100% that Oda has made a reference to the Katana Gatari series 刀語 which is a light novel turned into anime series about a guy searching for 12 weapons created by a fictional swordsmith. The swords name in the series is 微刀 (Bitou) which means delicate sword.
I think the reason why this is a chasing sword is because the sword can probably turn into a doll and start attacking on its own which would be really sick.
Also even more coincidentally the doll has 4 legs which might be where Oda got the idea for the centaur in this chapter
By the way the fight against this sword in the anime is here;

We now have three references to dolls in Wano so Far. Tenguyama is a doll collector, OKiku is a haunted doll with growing hair, and now this sword. Hmmm, interesting

Welp, it finally happened. I decided to drop the series for now.
It's starting to turn into a obligation to read. I don't even think it's anything in Wano so far specifically that bothers me. It's the same it's always been.
That's exactly it I guess, the formula is always the same. I think I probably just need a break for now, but never expected to get tired of this series like this.

I'm like you. I'm just reading the spoilers. I'm done with One Piece. There are so many better manga out there.
