The new episode was great.
! Don Karnage was great in my opinion. I enjoyed the musical stuff during the episode and I hope we get see more of Don Karnage in the future. The joke about Scrooge keep thinking Huey was Dewey was funny. The reveal at the end of the episode about Louie's gem was very funny as well.
-
That was not Don Karnage. First real dissapointment/miss of the show.
I'm fine with a different take and trying something different, but Karny was such a memorable fantastic character that losing the voice, design, and personality is just a huge step down. Two of the three I could get used to but that guy basically had nothing in common with Karnage except the outfit.
They also overdid the musical bit.
-
Supposedly why the voice was different: https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/175887139336/so-how-come-you-guys-could-get-jim-cummings-to

Long list goes here
Yeah, that's how I've ordered them in my "Collection" as it were.
Luckily it seems the last 3-4 episodes of the season are gonna air in production order now. This was the last out of order episode, so we should be good from here…
Here's hoping with Season 2 Disney doesn't pull this crap...
-
Good episode. Just had to look up this clip.
! This Don Karnage was okay (Better than the reboot Beagle Boys at least). He fits the Ducktales universe well enough but he lacks the charm of the original but I blame that on the plot. Won't mind seeing him again. Now, his crew, I love. So much personality. They blow Karnage's old crew out the water, er, sky.
! And points to Webby for fooling Louie. -
I just love that the Sky Pirates' ship was actually identified as "Iron Vulture". As a kid it always bugged me that it was usually just referred to as "Vulture" in the show aside from a small handful of times.
Thanks for posting that clip Nectar!
-
The thing with that Sky Pirates song clip is the entire Talespin pilot four parter had song numbers in it. ALL the characters sang in that, and then they proceeded not to for the rest of the series.
It wasn't some weird ongoing quirk of the sky pirates, it was a quirk of the pilot episode. Grabbing onto that aspect and making it the entire gimmick of the characters for the whole episode was just kinda… eh.
Some of the new backdrop pirates were okay though. Nice that Karny's crew has some girls in it now, though Maddog and Dumptruck weren't anywhere near as interesting as their old selves. (And maybe didn't even have those names anymore?)
-
New Ducktales short is out.
-
The pirate hat really wasn't working for Karnage's design for me. But I get that it was a theme of the episode so…eh?
Also seeing Dewey flying Karnage's personal miniplane hit me right in the nostalgia.
-
Well, as a guy who did not grow up watching TaleSpin and has no real familiarity or nostalgia for Don Karnage, I have to say that, based on the few clips of him I've seen from the old show, it does seem that the Old Karnage does have more personality and charisma than the Karnage we got in this episode. I'm not totally sure if that's due to the writing or the actor both, but hopefully things will get better (though I don't anticipate him showing up too much).
Besides all that, it was still a good episode. And I guess Scrooge only managed to get a handful of his stolen treasure back?
-
Webby and Louie having some time as a duo ? Great episode.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Looks like some major Duck comics characters are coming in Season 2 as well with John D. Rockerduck and Fethry Duck.
Not that much of a surprise about John D. Rockerduck since he's a huge part of the european comic books but Mark Beaks was filling this role so well that I honestly didn't expect a need for John.
Can't wait to see that. -
Great episode.
! The entire Della and the Spear of Selene storyline is getting more interesting with now being reveal it's being some form of a ship. Launchpad being Donald was a really funny moment in the episode as well Webby having too much joy of seeing Scrooge's parents. I tear up a bit about Louie's reaction of Dewey's keeping the Della information.
-
! I really appreciate the development they are giving the triplets + Webby. The personalities really meshed here with the triplets in terms of how they each stand out with their own quirks and qualities. Louie definintely really stands out here as his reaction is really interesting here. Little details like that really make this reboot stand on its own. I just wish Huey got more proper development but it seems he's just kinda floating around as a "Dipper Lite".
-
A nice episode.
! Agreed. The triplets are so different and developed, old versions don't hold a candle to them. Man, the showrunners said we'd see more Duck family members than the old series and they weren't kidding. I love it. Launchpad as Donald was great. I really want an episode starring those two, but my favorite moment is the Duck family ghosts helping the triplets. It's such a heartwarming moment.
! Thank goodness the secret's out. I really don't like Dewey's actions concerning his mom, but I guess that's the point. He needs his brothers to help and for support. -
I like that Scrooge's origin is fully intact.
Hopefully someday we get something akin to the Life and Times, though obviously it would have to be truncated otherwise it'd be like a 12 parter.

If this were a thing, I hope they go for a movie route rather than squishing it up and trying to put it into an episode or two…or having it take up a handful of episodes rather than progressing the overall plot.

Well, could always do the "one plot in the present, one plot in in the past flashback" thing, but that would kind of dilute it I think.
-
Dang… that ending is heartbreaking.
! I didn't expect the entire Della storyline to be this heartbreaking. The reveal at the end when Donald, the triplets, Webby, Mrs. Beakley, and Duckworth all leaving while Scrooge having his flashback for searching for Della in Space.
-
I can't believe it. How is that possible? Who could've known that—
! Mrs. Beakley never went on a proper adventure with Scrooge and the kids? That totally surprised me.
! And the Della stuff was good too.
Having the entire cast (minus Donald) in a closed room scenario was a huge departure from a normal episode. It worked well for this kind of story. Talk about a reputation preceding you, but Donald should've known Scrooge would do anything to help. Guess he needed someone to blame and no one wants to blame Della. She f-ed up. I was sure Magica had something to do with it, guess not. Question is now, how did Scrooge take her out before?
! Yeah, those last few minutes were rough. Poor Webby. Her and Scrooge's flashback and tears were the gut punches for me. I half expected Magica to strike at the last second.
! I don't read the comics but I saw on YouTube or somewhere a while back about Della and it looks like they're adapting what happened to her in the comics. Tagging in case they go this route.
! >! For what I remember, she's still flying through space, stuck in a time anomaly. Barely any time has passed for her.
! Anyway, I hope they don't one-and-done Magica. She's gotta be a recurring villain throughout the series. -
Della's backstory is explained in a Dutch comic from 2014 to celebrate Donald's 80th anniversary. It's somewhat similar to the show.
[hide]She's a famous aviator who was the first person to fly over the ocean and was also a test pilot. She dumped her children at Donald's because she became the first person to fly a rocket ship to space. As Nectar said, she's stuck in a time anomaly as she's flying with the speed of light and therefore 15 minutes for her are years in normal time. She can't come home until she's emptied half her fuel tank. Gyro made a super tablet so that the nephews and Donald could communicate with her, but they lied about their names so not to worry her.
Because the backstory is a bit out there and only mentioned once (and recently at that) it was never really treated as canon, but I guess the DuckTales writers liked it (though they elaborated and improved vastly on it).[/hide]
-
Great episode and that was a big cliffhanger for the end of Season 1. I can't wait for Season 2.
! After last week's episode I didn't expect the Della storyline to return this quickly and it was nice they used the Moon theme from the Ducktales video game. There were a lot of great moments in the episode, Launchpad fighting the shadows with the Darkwing Duck theme playing was really funny. I also didn't expect that Lena was just Magica's shadow. Magica was a highlight of the episode, she continuing to be one of the show's great highlight.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also Disney announced who voiced the mysterious character that appeared at the end of the season finale.
! Paget Brewster is going to be voicing Della. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-entertainment-news-updates-2018-della-duck-finally-speaks-on-1534543258-htmlstory.html

Great character moments all throughout the finale.
! Before I forget, I'm interested in seeing what they do with Lena now. And I like the cameos from Ma'ma and Gladstone. Fenton didn't get much to do but I love him being so resourceful even without the Gizmoduck suit.
! Amazing how they can balance this many characters in the show. Everyone got a moment to shine (some more than others, sorry Huey) but for the most part, it worked, really well. Donald was amazing and great way to kick off him getting more screen time in future seasons. Love his interaction with Mrs. Beakley and Launchpad with Webby. I said it before, but I love it when the show gives viewers a character pairing we don't often see.
! Everyone was on point this episode (minus background Huey) but Launchpad stole the show. I'm starting to think HE is Ducktales. Also, have to give a shout out to Mrs. Beakley, so happy she had stuff to do as I think she's the second most underutilized character among the main cast.
! My only gripe is Magica, she sucked as season big bad. Her best moments were in Lena's body then after that, I didn't really care about her. She's over the top and crazy but she never gave off the sense she was truly dangerous. That wouldn't be an issue except she'd been built up this entire season. Love you Magica, but you're a B-list character in an A-list role. Hope she fits better in later seasons.
! Della Duck. How are you alive? And they gave you a voice! Much as I want to see her in the show proper I don't think that'll happen. Hope I'm wrong. Overall, a fantastic season. Take notes reboot showrunners. This is how it's done. -
What a great season finale.
Can't wait for what next season will bring. -
I liked the Kingdom Hearts easter egg.
-
-
-
Probably has to be one of the finest, if not THE finest reboot of a cartoon serie yet.
What a fantastic way to end the first season with actual "feels" that built off from the previous episode. There were waaaaaay too many call backs to count apparently squeezed into this episode. Though after rewatching episode 1 (or…1 and 2) and rewatching the final episode, it is really impressive with how they managed to set up/foreshadow the themes and overarching ideas of family and loss very effectively that persisted throughout a majority of the episodes. There's just so much to process...
-
Yo. They actually used The Moon music in the show! Amazing!
-
That was amazing. Phenomenal episode on all accounts.
"Don't drink this water." Hahahaha my god Launchpad. -
The Ducktales Season 1 Finale was awesome :D
Looking forward to Season 2 with The Three Caballeros -
Oh my god that finale was spectacular!!! They paid everything off in all the right ways!!! So excited for Season 2 now!!!
Yo. They actually used The Moon music in the show! Amazing!
Wait wh- HOW DID I MISS THAT?!?!?!
-
Well it was only a couple notes and it was meshed in with the music preceding it, so easy to miss.
-
Yup!
According to some comments they played bits of the Transylvania theme but I don't hear it.
-
Even this more or so releated to the 80's Ducktales series, but it's big news. The final volume of Ducktales 87 is finally coming out by Disney Movie Club.

^ I didn't know The Golden Goose was the last story. Full of suspense. I loved it! Glad the show went out with a bang.
-
Finally caught up with the 1st season. Great finale I have to admit, Magica was done so well as an over the top villain, at least character wise. I also dig her updated look, for some reason I always had a thing for her haha
! Ofc I aso liked the Della storyline and how it always came up over the entire course of the 1st season at focal points. Along with that final season cliffhanger? - Good stuff! And the appearent break up right before the finale was heart breaking, especially Scrooge's flashback. They set up the theme of the importance of family so well over the course of the season! Also, Donald with that soothing voice killed me :D
Really looking forward to season 2 is all I can say. Way to reboot a series!

I will say I didn't expect Ducktales to get renewed for season 3 this fast. Also I didn't expect season 2 to start in October, since I figure it would be starting up in Novemeber. But I'm happy that season 2 is starting up sooner then I expected it would.

If an animated show is going to be renewed, it's almost always done a full year or more in advance because of the amount of production time required, and so there's not really any reason for the network to NOT let fans know in advance there's going to be more for some time to come. MLP has generally been confirming their renewals a year in advance, Rick and Morty just got renewed for like another 6 years in advance, which is crazy. Venture Bros. renewals are announced two years in advance but take forever to make. Steven Universe hasn't said anything in three years.
Lots of reasons to not mention a show not being renewed though, since networks can change their minds later based on ratings/toy sales or do movies or whatever. Though Adventure Time did mention they were entering their final seasons two years in advance… but that had already been a long runner.... Regular Show and Gravity Falls didn't announce their ends until right before it happened though.
-
I can see Ducktales lasting four or five seasons (each nephew being a season linchpin along with a Donald and Webby season). Can always make it longer with Gizmoduck and Scrooge/Duck Family season.
I'm still waiting for word on Darkwing's new show. It's gotta be coming.
-
I'm a little annoyed how the DVD releases have been so chopped up. The first one is just the pilot episode(s?) and then the next I saw on the shelf at stores was for a handful of episodes. I hope they do put the whole first season out, I haven't seen it anywhere. Though they did drag their feet with Gravity Falls, so…
-
The first two episodes titles for Season 2 are out.
October 20th: "The Most Dangerous Game… Night!"
October 27th: "The Depths of Cousin Fethry!"Also Tom Kenny will be voicing Fethry Duck.

After hearing him as the character he's played in things like Brickleberry and Paraside P.D., I'll never be able to look at any other characters with his voice in the way they probably want.
