2:1
as expected Cristiano vs Spain.
Football: 2018 World Cup

These Spaniards are clumsy. They're loosing because the goalkeeper fucked up with his hands, and one of the defenders was a bit agressive in the penalty-area
Anyway, that was one hell of a goal from Diego Costa. He was getting surrounded by 5 Portuguese, but still managed to score
-
3:2
ok Spain is on.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
wow best match so far, with these performances in group B I could easily see Iran and Morocco gone by now, tho I'll wait for surprises.
-
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of teams that are polarized around one player, but that was a great match nonetheless.
The Spanish did a very great job defending in the second half. Too bad someone had to screw up 5min before the end…
-
I could just FEEL that goal coming when he lined up that free kick.
I turned to my brother like "this is the time to do it, if he's gonna do it."
"Look at his laser focused eyes, look at that nerveless face of solid steel."
"He knows exactly what he wants to do, and how he's gonna do it."And so it proved, when that shot rifled into the net I pumped my fist.
I watched the game as a neutral, but I felt kinda justified for being so into the buildup lol -
I can't comment the epicness of this match. I haven't felt as reassured about having Ronaldo on our team in a loooong time. Probably going to be one of the best matches of the whole cup.
-
That was a mediocre match. And three very odd goals
Aaron Mooy was great though -
All right here we go… didn't think it would happen during my lifetime 10 years ago when we were 140th or something on the FIFA ranking list but here we are. Iceland - Argentina, Aron Einarsson vs. Lionel Messi... Crazy
Áfram Ísland!

you should bet money online, I mean you know your team is screwed, take advantage of that knowledge

You never know, shut down Ronaldo at the Euro's 2 years ago
-
I totally support Iceland. Have to love the underdogs:wub:
-
YES! Hannes > Messi
-
wtf, Ronaldo is scoring historic goals and Messi… failing a penalty.
-
I was watching Iceland v Argentina at the mall today and lots of people applauded Iceland's goal and Messi's failed PK! Looool. Nice one, Iceland, now you have a fair chance of going through to the last 16!
-
Iceland isn't to be under-estimated. They managed to go very far during the 2016 Euro Cup
-
imagine Croatia getting a draw with Argentina next thursday, that would put them in so much trouble.
ughh I want to stay positive for Mexico but against Germany..️
-
ughh I want to stay positive for Mexico but against Germany..️
Then stay postive. Germany is beatable.
-
Well that's a disappointing start …
-
The german defence is really bad…:getlost:
-
fuckin ridiculous plays by the german team. first loss of the first game in 36years.
-
The German were slow af. I guess it's just not the same team without Miroslav Klose
Congrats to the Mexicans, it's totally deserved
-
Yeah mexicans just played better than our team today. I hope they get their shit together quick.
-
Interesting performance from Germany there. Mexico could've easily put four or five past 'em if they hadn't wasted their chances so very gloriously (seriously, Chicharito, remember that you're a striker).
I doubt the former will repeat that kind of performance though. Löw will tinker a wee bit and figure out a formation that will win the remaining two group matches and then pick up enough momentum to march on till the semis (where they could meet Brazil iirc).
-
I think it's more noticable that players like Lahm and Schweinsteiger are missing.
The second half went a lot better. But yeah … Mexiko deserved that win. -

The second half went a lot better. But yeah … Mexiko deserved that win.Schweinsteiger I could definitely feel was missing. At times Kroos was so far up the pitch that the German midfield was completely overrun (in his defense he had to seeing how Draxler, Müller and Werner created jackshit up front).
-
I'm glad for the Swiss. Too bad they didn't win though
-
Can someone explain to me why every match in this tournament had five minutes overtime, while Germany - Mexico just had three (despite Mexico playing the clock the whole time)? Not that Germany could've actually used these two minutes, because they played really bad. But why the difference?
-
holy jesus christ,
cannot believe it myself -

They weren't overtimes, they were stoppage times that are added at the end of each half. The game consists of two 45 minute halves. Since the game clock does not stop for fouls, the referees determine(to the nearest minute) how much time elapsed due to those fouls and adds it to the game clock after the 45th minute and 90th minute respectively if I'm not mistaken.
-
So that Sweden v South Korea match was not brilliantly officiated…
-
Fuck
…............. -
I was rooting for Tunisia all along. But I noticed from the start that their defense was fuzzy. Especially during corner kicks, there was often a gap in the defense
-
Football's coming home lads! Sorry everyone else gonna go and give Belgium a thumping next week, breeze through the knockouts and Kane's gonna snatch the golden boot. It's set in stone.
-
Did Japan just beat Colombia?
-
Nippon banzai! When you play against 10 men for around 90 minutes, you're kinda expected to beat your opponents
On a different note… Senegal is beating Poland 2-0 with 2 of the weirest goals I've ever seen in World Cups. Definitely the weirdest ones of this edition.
-
Russia's been the biggest surprise for me so far. Not only are they basically guaranteed a last 16 spot, they're also scoring goals galore. That run will most likely come to an end once they meet a good opponent in the last 16/8 but it's kinda cool to witness while it's lasting.
-
as for Russia, I believe their surprising road is coming to an end with Uruguay, and a full stop when they face either Spain or Portugal.
Japan beating Colombia wow, and Senegal winning too, I really want an African country to pass the next fase -
That had to be the worst official match I've seen from Portugal in a very long time. I'm really sorry for the Moroccans, they tried so hard in both games and ended up losing both unfairly… I really hope that something changes in the team in the next match against Iran. That was embarassing.
-
Watching Iran vs Spain right now and OH MY FKING GOD, why are the freaking vuvuzelas there? This constant garbage sound destroys the entire atmosphere.
If it is coming from Iran fans then I hope they lose and get out of the world cup if only it means no damn vuvuzelas anymore.
-
It's was a nice game for Ronaldo, Patrício and their other friends, I mean, we won, but I liked it more when we played with the national team.
Morroco played great on the other hand. They deserved to score more than us so it felt more like a tie. We're keeping 2016's tactic, tie till you reach the final then score at the last moment. -
well it was close enough game for iran i think if we win next game it will be the first time iran goes to the next stage
-

-
There's a difference between playing defensive football and playing badly. Portugal won the Euro by playing defensive football, but doing it well, after the group stage. In this world cup, the team has just played very badly.
-
yeah, lol, I hate how Portugal won the cup in 2016
That's just cause you lost, it's normal to be sad.
But go and check euro 2004 history and see what a real heartbreak looks like. And our problem in 2016 was finishing the plays with a goal. Basically what happen to Morroco today.
If you check the statistics the numbers are there, good ammount of ball possession, good amount of shoots, etc. But sometimes a bit of luck along, or against, skill is a big factor. -
I wish we'll see Portugal vs Brazil in this world cup. Two team that are polarized around one player. And they pretty much speak the same language I think (not sure how different they are)

lol, I had completely forgotten that France had made it to the final in 2016

Portugal in 2016 didn't play against any major team before the final. They just sneaked in there. They were mediocre in the groupe stage (3draws, against Austria, Iceland and Hungary), they almost got kicked out of the cup because of that. And then, they happened to play against countries that were "not-very-favorite-to-win-the-cup"–- Poland and Wales. At best, the match against the Croatians wasn't that bad.
In the end, they didn't have to play against Germany, Spain, Italy or England."Playing defensively" pretty much means "wear out and bore the shit out of the other team, and run 5min before the end and score if you can". It looks like a boxing match, not football.
-
You forgot England were sone away by Iceland… Which tied against Portugal in the group stage, and that Croatia beat Spain and finished top of the group and many people were betting on them to be the surprise winners after that. And Italy has been an average side for a long time now. The only team we had no chance against in the Euro was Germany. So thanks for eliminating them to France
Sorry if you cannot appreciate the beauty and hardship of defensive football. Go watch Atlético Madrid 2014 matches or classic Italian matches and learn a bit before you tell me it's not football but boxing.

We both speak portuguese. The language difference comes down to accent and such, much like english and it's variants in the UK, USA and Australia.
If both sides are speaking calmly and trying to make themselves understood it's not much of a problem. If we start using a lot slang or local expressions, or if one of the people involved is an idiot, we don't get nowhere. We grinded a lot in the last euro, that's for sure. And I too prefer to see flashier footbal (hence why I usually find beach football more entertaining that regular field football) but there is more than one way to win a game and we played with the same rules as everyone. Truth is unlike a league, where the team that played best the whole time gets bigger rewards, in an elemination tournament surprises do happen.
Also, despite all the team changes that come with time, Portugal vs England are always very hard to guess the winner. No matter how much hype one of the teams has before the game we always seem to get evenly matched on the field, we've tied most games in the last couple of decades. I always get pumped for those games.

I've said somewhere in this thread that Iceland had been a surprise in the 2016 cup. They also happened to be very lucky. Anyway, it's not always the ones who give the best performance who win the euro/world cup.
In 2014, I was rooting for Netherlands/Germany for the final. But it didn't happen. The semi-finals were more entertaining than the final. It's a pity.Sorry if you cannot appreciate the beauty and hardship of defensive football. Go watch Atlético Madrid 2014 matches or classic Italian matches and learn a bit before you tell me it's not football but boxing.
Well it's literally still football.
Portugal was the only team to play that much defensively during the cup. The "beauty" is about winning, not playing. Which I'm not very fond of.
Also, you really need to chill downWe both speak portuguese. The language difference comes down to accent and such, much like english and it's variants in the UK, USA and Australia.

If we start using a lot slang or local expressions, or if one of the people involved is an idiot, we don't get nowhere.btw, do both countries still have close political relations ? Like for anglo-american countries, and unlike France and Québec (who really don't give a shit about each other)
and we played with the same rules as everyone.
Yes, it's not like I was saying Portugal didn't deserve it. After all, their team won and yes of course, there are many ways to win. I'm just pointing out how it was unusual and that I don't really enjoy this kind of match
-
I'm chill, dude, as long as you make it clear you weren't sore about it it's fine. Misunderstandings happen. Especially when it's a written conversation. I am a fan of defensive football as well, so it is a bit annoying to see people talk crap about it just because it isn't flashy. But I do prefer the more technical futsal (indoor football) to field football, so there's that. Beach football is a bit ridiculous to me haha @FolhaS.
Regarding Brazil and Portugal's international relations, it is so so. We're not as close to Brazil as we are to the former African colonies, since they separated a long time ago now and we had an isolationist dicatorship in the meantime. But we're still kinda friendly countries and there are quite a few brazillians living here and some portuguese there. The language is the same so it makes adaptation easier.
Pardon my language but writing on a cellphone sucks.
