But thats what the "share" link gives me.
Ah well.
Sure, an it probably shares great to facebook or twitter.
But this forum is old and stupid.
No, Disney. You do NOT take Shang out of Mulan!
No, Disney. You do NOT take Shang out of Mulan!
But Satsuki, Mulan is a strong independent woman who don't need no man, no matter how bicurious he may be.
She does if he's getting replaced with a "salty, hater rival who becomes interested in Mulan after discovering she's a woman." If Mulan has to have a romance, it's Shang or nothing.
Ah, I didn't read the whole article. I just thought they were removing Shang and, ergo, Mulan's love interest entirely.
First, Shang was bissexual? I didn't knew that.
Second, you can't do Make a Man Out of You! without Shang.
And finally, if Lefou was gay in the remake, then why don't you keep this still?

lol. I don't think there was any "official" description of Shang as bisexual, but the fact that he learned to care about "Ping" and was caring about "him" more and more before Mulan's identity was exposed, has made him something of a bisexual icon. Or as Nobodyman put it, bicurious.
And this movie won't have any music either. :getlost:

Yep. It's already not a Must Watch in my book.

Given the mockery over B&TB for it's music can't call that too much of a bad thing.
Well, other than "Dark Side of the Moon" none of the songs in Mulan were spectacular either. So it's not the worst thing. SHANG on the other hand . . .

I'm not knocking you, but it's very amusing that you just referred to "I'll Make a Man Out of You" as "Dark Side of the Moon"
I keep hearing the two switched intermittently so I end up saying both myself.
I always call it "Be a man"
Such a shame. There's so many hot men that could have been Shang. But nooo. Another live action Disney movie I won't be seeing. No music, no Shang, some lane witch, no Huns. What's the point? This just becomes another standard Chinese "epic."
No Huns!? Who are they fighting against?
No Huns!? Who are they fighting against?
Maybe the Jurchens? Do Manchus have a big enough voice in China to complain?
I guess it depends which dynasty they're trying to shove it in.

Donnie Yen is playing Mulan's commander, but said commander is not Shang.
Shang's whole relationship with Mulan reminds me of this one episode of Futurama.
!
!
Probably the worst part of all this is, that they're doing a not-romantic mentor-type figure… and NOT having Jackie Chan play him. Like, come on, that would have been perfect!
(For clarification, he did Shang's voice in the Chinese dubs of Mulan)
To be fair Jackie Chan has unfortunately crossed a certain age line where playing a tough military commander is a bit hard for him. Not in that he's not capable as an actor, but in that he's lacking the physical strength.
Donnie Yen will do fine as a commander, even if it's not Shang. Jet Li will do as the Emperor, although that's a case of where I actually think he's too young. What I want to know is where is Fan Bingbing in all of this.

Get Jackie chan as the emperor, Jet li as the young commander and Donnie Yeng is the consultant guy check on the progress of the troops and report to the emperor.

I saw The Foreigner this past weekend. The man's still got it.

Donnie Yen is not Ahang hot to me. He's just, okay. Have you seen Chuando that 51 year old photographer? I'm talking about the actors in that range. I know there's plenty of actors that could easily be Shang.

Eh… Mulan only had four songs anyway. The only one anyone cares about is Make a Man out of you. Reflection is fine but doesn't need to be a song moment at all to carry the exact same emotions. And "Girl worth fighting for" could actually just be an in-world song rather than a musical number, so its easily substituted for not-song. ...and Honor to us All is best forgotten anyway.
The Jerry Goldsmith instrumentals were the real strong point of that one.
Given the mockery over B&TB for it's music can't call that too much of a bad thing.
Eh… B&tB SHOULD be a musical. That's a major component of it. The problems there were that the live versions had no energy, and that Emma Watson couldn't sing and was crazy auto-tuned, rather than just lip synching an actual singer.
The fact that Emma Watson couldn't sing mind boggles me as to why she was cast in the first place. She's good for a spunky girl role, but there's plenty of other actresses who CAN sing that could play Belle just as well.
Name recognition (Hermione as Belle) probably counts for a lot more than singing skills. It actually wouldn't be a problem if they had gotten someone else to do the singing for her (like they have in some of the animated films and has been in other live-action musicals), but apparently no one thinks about that.
(And at 1 billion at the global box office, it doesn't seem to have mattered).

Being able to sing hasn't historically been a limiting factor to being in a musical. But usually they work the actor over until they CAN sing, or they play with the skills they have.
Like in My Fair Lady. Audrey Hepburn sang the parts where she was course… then was dubbed over by a real singer when she became civilized... and Rex Harrison didn't sing at all, he just sort of spoke his lines in rhythm, and that worked. And that's generally considered one of THE great musicals.
Or look at Les Mis. They made a huge deal about the actors singing live (which was a mistake) because traditionally musically are just lip synched ANYWAY.. because that makes a better sound. (Also Russell Crowe was terrible.) Les Mis made the wrong choice there.
Emma Watson was cast entirely based on being bookworm Hermione, now grown up and pretty, one of the most visible elements of a multi-billion dollar franchise, and that made perfect sense, it's a great fit. The decision to just auto-tune her, badly, did not.
See also Scarlett Johansson being the default action film girl at this point, even when she's inappropriate for a role like Ghost in the Shell.

Rex Harrison was always good at "talk-singing", which perfectly fit his role anyway. Les Miz wanted to do that live-singing because they got Hugh Jackman to play Valjean, and the man is an experienced musical actor. However what might have worked for Hugh Jackman wouldn't necessarily work for others. Jackman as Jean Valjean was all anyone really cared about anyway.
You'd think that with examples like My Fair Lady they'd just dub over Watson. I don't know who's dumb idea it was to auto-tune.
Just made me remember Mama Mia where Brosnan got more than one song and he was terribad.
Christy and Will introduce the new Kim and Ron for the live action Kim Possible movie.
So I just finished my watchthrough of all four seasons of Kim Possible. Good show. Not gonna be an all-time fave for me, but still a good show. Some random observations:
! -First off, this show had a stellar cast. Will Friedle, John DiMaggio, Nicole Sullivan, Tom Kane, Patton Oswalt, Ricardo Montalban, Patrick Warburton, Gary "Voice-of-Harvey-Birdman" Cole, Brian Posehn (who really needs to get some bigger roles), and George Takei.
! -I've stated this before, probably in another thread, but the first season didn't do a whole lot for me. Though, while I don't think the writing ever drastically improved, once I got a feel for the show it became a nice little delight to watch.
! -Kim and Ron dating was a cool development, but I would have been fine with them staying friends too.
! -Unfortunately, So the Drama (the first exposure to Kim Possible I ever way back in the day) didn't hold up quite as well as I'd hoped. It's still good, but at times it felt too much like a conventional cartoon action movie (wait, is that even a thing?). Drakken in particular seemed really OOC in that he came up with a competent plan, and I guess that was the point, but…was it something we really wanted to see? A Sitch in Time at least stayed closer to spirit of the show.
! -Season 4 was pretty cool in that they decided shake things up a bit. Unfortunately, a lot of it was too little too late (or maybe just too late) and never really got the chance to sink in (like Kim's new outfit). A shame the show couldn't have continued another season.
! -On that note, I'm not sure what the deal was with Jim and Tim's design change in S4. Maybe it was mean to make them older, but...I don't know, it never really grew on me and just looked weird.
! -So glad they decided to not make the battle suit a regular thing. First, it would have made Kim way OP, and second it just looked bad.
! -For a while, I was really confused as to what exactly Kim was and why she goes around saving the world. At first I thought she was a secret agent for the government or something. But, according to A Sitch in Time, she's just a freelancer who helps people and saves the world I guess.
! -Rufus prompted me to look up an image of a real-life naked mole rat and good lord those things are hideous.
! -Wade was cool and he was so friggin' boss the first time we got to see him "in person".
! -Mr. Barkin is another fantastic character in Patrick Warburton's catalogue. The man can do no wrong.
! -From a distance, I never really thought that much of Shego. She just seemed a like a generic "evil twin" of Kim. But after getting to know her, I can not only say that she's anything but, but she's also my favorite character on the show. Her dry wit and sarcasm is an absolute highlight and she has a fantastic backstory with her history with Team Go. Oh yeah, and Drakken is great too.
! -What was the deal with Duff Killigan? They always seemed to be trying to bill him as a major villain with the team ups and all that, but I don't think he ever even got an episode to himself. He's pretty much the Fuzzy Lumpkins of the Rogues Gallery. Though, granted, how much can you do with a golfing Scotsman stereotype?
! -Boy howdy I did not expect SSS and SSJ to get so many episodes. Hell, I think they probably have the second highest number of episodes after Drakken and Shego. Also, a shame that Ricardo Montalban couldn't return for Season 4. SSJ didn't really work quite as well without SSS to play off of.
! -The finale was cool. The returning Warlordians was a nice continuity nod I guess, but also felt sort of random.
So with that behind me, what's next for me in the Disney animated shows catalogue? Hmm…Gargoyles, perhaps?
-I've stated this before, probably in another thread, but the first season didn't do a whole lot for me.
Try rewatching one of those first episodes now that you've seen the whole thing. The pacing and timing and sense of what the show is are just… off. They got a lot more confident and fast paced later.
ANd yes, Gargoyles is the best. Especially if you've never seen it.
Don't bother with Goliath Chronicles though. Really, REALLY don't bother with that season, pretend it doesn't exist. It had none of the staff from the first two seasons and it feels it. Season 2 ends on a basically perfect note anyway.

Is that the one where….
! .. has the Phoenix Gate , that sends Liza/Elisa (too long since I've watched it so can't remember main human female's name) and Goliath (was the 'dog-gargoyle' (again forgot his name, can't remember if its Bronx, I know it wasn't Brooklyn) traveling through the world (sometimes through time) visiting other cities and other clans? If so, I agree that it wasn't the same as the first 2.

No, that was the Avalon tour, that was still part of season 2. That part did kind of suck but it was worldbuilding.
It's a bit more tolerable when you can get through those dozen episodes in a couple hours, rather than the several months they originally aired.
Ah thanks Robby. Then I don't remember the Goliath Chronicles.
I do remember that season 1 and some part of 2 were my favorite.
…wait is the chronicles the season that had Goliath's daughter in it? and the not-quite-relationship between her and the // was it the fat one? The young one in the trio of youngest ones not Hudson. lol

Angela joined during the world tour halfway through season 2. It boils down like this.
Season 1- 13 episodes
Season 2- 13 episodes, 4 parter of City of Stone, 13 episodes, 3 parter Avalon, 13 episode world tour (with Goliath's daughter), 2 parter The Gathering, final 10 episodes back in New York, ends in 3 parter Hunter's Moon, great series finale
Season 3-The GOliath Chronicles. Whole different set of writers doing a whole lot of nonsensical out of character things
Season 3… did it come out a few years between it and season 2?
For some reason, I am thinking there's a big gap between the two seasons, instead of the normal gap between seasons. But then its been so long since I've watched Gargoyles ....
What season was it that
! the original home in NYC of the gargoyles was destroyed by extremist hate group and they had to relocate? Think they went back to the castle above the clouds … and with mega-rich man with an ego to match David who wanted to control them...
since some said they've not seen it, I'll use the spoiler tag

Really? Roughly half the episodes of season 3 list a writer who worked on a previous season (Weisman is credited as writing the first episode). I can understand not liking the Goliath Chronicles (I haven't seen the show since I was a kid, but I remember liking it), and maybe you know more behind the scene details than I do, but if the credits are correct, I don't think you can attribute the failures of season 3 due to just a fresh set of writers.

Yeah, that was the season 2 finale that led into Goliath Chronicles.

Maybe it's more accurate to say none of the head writers and showrunners were involved. Weisman worked on the first episode of that season, and ONLY that episode. That's why the Vinnie character had a big speech about leaving and moving away. (The Disney heads had switched around and made it extremely uncomfortable for him to stay around.) After that he was kicked out and had zero oversight. None of the head staff was involved and all the big plans they had got turned into… crap. And the new team had no time to amiliarize themselves with the show and had to produce the final season really fast... and toned down for intended Saturday morning broadcast.
For instance, Xanatos and Fox were treated as 10000% reformed goody goodies rather than.... themselves... and Fox in particular was a helpless mother rather than the badass action supervillain spy she was. The episode that was supposed to be about Brooklyn timetravelling and getting a family turned into him... meeting some orphan kids. An episode that was supposed to put Goliath on trial and question i he was even sentient was toned down to... Goliath on trial and taken for complete granted that of course he had a full list of rights. There was an episode where Bronx met an Amish kid. One that got Demona completely wrong. The main villain who was a carryover from the previous series finale... was NEVER REVEALED TO BE THE SAME GUY. ANd there was a super duper happy ending where all of humanity accepted the gargoyles foreve rand defeated the hate group forever because that's easy and totally how humanity works. (Whereas Weisman's clans would have had the group surprive KKK style for centuries.)
And so on.
Weisman himself has repeatedly and consistenly said Goliath Chronicles is non-canon,except the first episode, and the comic ignored it entirely.

ah Yes now I remember some of that season. The only thing I really liked was Oberon, but what I really hated was those two things you've listed.
Fox & David Xanatos have a baby and VIOLA! baby makes them reformed and good guys now… yeah right.
While I liked Oberon... well mostly liked, there a few complaints but that ties into this= I hated the thing with Titania.
Really WTF thing with their relationship at all. Turns out that Fox's mom was Titania all along so making Fox half-human/half-fae ... but next to no powers and treated as fully human. Worse is when Oberon decides to reconcile with his ex-wife and take her back, as both his wife and back to Avalon. She decides to make a demand, for him to take her grandson away from her own daughter, thus making Oberon fight against David, Fox, Puck and others. And Oberon was like Okay! This is after it was said in earlier seasons that he divorced her because of her cruel treatment of humans. A total retcon of his character there.

Oberon was still season 2. And that wasn't quite how Oberon worked. He was an arse and I'm pretty sure Titania left him… and the whole thing with trying to take the baby was because, eventually, Oberon was going to find out he had a grandson and try to take it anyway, rather than let any of it's magical talents fade away like Fox's did. So that was eventually going to happen no matter what.
! It was a plot to let the heroes be prepared for the attack, and to try and set up a situation that would awaken Fox's latent powers and set it up so the baby COULD stay. rather than Oberon finding out later and stealing the kid a couple years later while they were unprepared. Titania was trying to make things work out.
! Also Puck's involvement was… Puck's involvement and his big secret. That was going to get tied in eventually as well because Oberon was pissed at him for not coming back.
! It mostly worked out for everyone.

I agree on Oberon not wanting the child's power to fade. you're right on Puck
But Fox's baby was not the grandson of Oberon. Fox's father was human. I forgot his name, a genius but crippled man Titania was briefly married to while disguised as a human. By time both of Fox's parents were introduced (before the reveal of Titania) they were already divorced and seemed to be so for some years.
Trailer with the whole Pooh cast is out:
I'd heard that Chris O'Dowd was to voice Tigger, but it seems they had Jim Cumming pull double duty again. Part of me was really intruiged with the idea of an Irish Tigger, but oh well, still sounds good.

Titania's grandson then. I know what I meant. Same difference far as Oberon was concerned. Fairy kid, royal booodline, wasn't going to let it stay in the human world.
