I really love the coloring.
-
I like it, but the background's emptiness is distracting. It worked for All-Might on volume 9 because he took up most of the frame, but it looks awkward here since it's a battle scene. Which is a shame because I think all the background needed is light blue and a couple clouds depicting the fight happening in the sky (which it actually did when Deku went all Sky Walk). As it is, it looks more like unfinished concept art.
-
This is actually the fifth white cover, following 5, 8, 11, and 15 (15 being the weird/awful zoomed-in Izuku face).
It's the most common theme color so far, now (four books are red).
And Koda is on the spine of v18, leaving only Sero, Sato, Hagakure, Tokoyami, and Jiro as class 1-A kids without spine spotlights (Jiro will surely be on the spine of the school festival volume, since Aoyama was already on v10).starts analyzing colors + characters on spine to figure out who the traitor is

Volume 5 works just fine with a white background because the shot mostly focuses on Shouto in a mid-closeup shot solemnly looking at his hand. The background whiteness fits how quiet that scene is. Volume 8 only has white background on the extremely thin upper and bottom framing, it is at least 85% color counting the inside. Volume 11 has a bloody belligerent All-Might, but the white background still sort of works since the shot is only focusing on All-Might to emphasize his dedication to his final stand against All for One. The whiteness can kind of fit the quiet finality of that final United States of SMASH blow. Volume 15 has the same qualities Volume 5 has.
When I look at Volume 18, I see a long shot focusing on three whole characters fighting for their lives. The whiteness does not add anything to how hectic and tense this looks, or gives us any idea on where it takes place. In fact, the awkward emptiness makes this look like a fight from Bleach with Tite Kubo saving on ink by removing the background entirely. That is my problem.
-
It would look a lot better if it was bird perspective, with that hole they came from visible in the background.

Now that would have been beautiful.

Oh I wasn't addressing your opinion or trying to justify anything!
Just dropping by with incidental numbers-based trivia. For the record though, I, too, was reminded of Bleach covers :P
-
Reminded me of old Conan color covers.
The fact it's asymmetric doesn't help it much, makes it seem like there's even more white than there is. And of course, Deku and Eri's ability special effects don't look impressive against a light background.
-
I certainly hope she's not.
What bees do in the privacy of someone's eye is their business.
Volume 18 cover
No a fan of watermark/washed out cover colors. Other than that, it's good.
Tokoyami didn't get a contents page? Got nothing against Koda but Whaaaaaaa… -

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I still appreciated the info though. :)

Old Man=Best Character.
-
Ooo. I wonder what her Quirk could be.
-
Pretty straightforward chapter. Points for Deku trying to reason with Gentle and bluffing. Loved Deku's Spider-man moment lifting the beam. Doubt it'll happen but hope La Brava has a glue quirk. Go the "I'm rubber, you're glue" route.
-
I hope…it has nothing to do with hacking. That should just be an incidental talent.
Like how Hatsume has this random supervision Quirk but IS ALSO a genius tinkerer. Or how Bakugo has dumb explosions but just happens to be talented at everything imaginable to the point that everyone else lampshades it.Besides, it probably won't be hacking-related since that wouldn't exactly slow down Izuku here.
-
It really, REALLY should have a backdrop color, since the energy effects are being completely lost against the white.
-
I feel like this chapter really cemented for me how much this low-stakes plot and encounter resembles a Spider-Man story or some old school superhero cartoon. We should've known a classic setting like a construction site would be used for battle at some point in the series, and the slingshot at the end is just icing on the cake.
I'd say this chapter rivals the Stain alley fight as the most classically Marvel fight.
-
I just wanna give a shout out to how beautifuly made that last double page was.

Lol dumb explosions.
Maybe La Brava can hack bodies? But then again having a quirk that has nothing to do with hobbies or other talents is pretty nice. Powers and names that fit character hobbies and desires usually feels lazy. I don't think Horikoshi has fallen into that pattern. At least not in an in your face way.

Eh, I disagree. It feels more consistent to me on a creative level. I don't really care for characters having powers that have nothing to do with them literally or figuratively because that means they could be assigned to almost any random schmoe. At least let their ability feel synergetic with their design semiotics like most of this series' characters. Of course, since Quirks are based on genetics and not the individual's physical or mental traits, it would feel too coincidental if she had a hacking ability. I hope it is something complementary to those skills in a clever balance one wouldn't expect.
-
I completely agree with Count here. It makes perfect sense for it to be somewhat related to La Brava's interests since people tend to like what they're good at. But it's best to keep in mind that Quirks are often symbolic for a character's personality as opposed to being the single defining factor. Something related to infatuation and hacking would be good, but a quirk that literally hacks people would be too much.
-
The powers are more in-tune to the characters personality than their hobbies, and that's good.
Bakugo's power, and name, is explosions because he's an hot-head, not because he enjoys destroying things and posting the clips on youtube.A good character will usually have a power that either really fits them or seems to be the opposite, although we've seen some cool powers that are just random and the characters just do the best with them.
Kouga's very shy and seems to rarely speak or speak softly so his power to talk to stuff other than humans, animals in this case, is a good match. And Ashido Mina's power is acid, despite the fact that she's a sweet and caring person.
but Mineta's ripping parts of hair/head that are bouncy don't really have anything to do with his pervy personality, unless I'm missing some japanese pun. There are ocasional exceptions though.
Jiro's power is arguably the power of music, which is also her hobby (altough a case could also be made with an "of course she loves music, she hears it better than anyone" argument)
Or Momo, a girl who can have anything in the world, having the power to make anything in the world. -

Does life hacking not count?

Trailer for the MHA movie features this horrific Rare-Might:
!
-
Why tf are his eyes like that? I refuse to believe that's actually All Might.
Also…No link for the trailer?

It's just a 30 second trailer with most being panels from the manga and Deku and All Might on a plane.
-
Although that's a horrific rare Might, his sclera should be white after all he was quirkless (and not a mutant type like Mina).
I suppose the black sclera we all grown to love is result of his injuries after his first smack down with AFO.
Now what kind of injury would result in that is beyond me, maybe Kubo with his pseudo-science could find something "believable" for that. -
I mean I guess it's possible? Every flashback his face is partially obscured I think. But it feels weird to have that revealed in a non canon movie.

I think you need to flip your perspective to get why this could make sense. Maybe it isn't that the movie is non-canon to the comics, but the comics are non-canon to the movie?
! What the hell did I just type?

Uuuhhh…Sure okay. I guess?
-
Couldn't the whole thing be explained by his eyes being so sunken, his browline casts a shadow over his eyes?
-
Love the trailer using Marvel's comic flips. The eyes could be a giveaway that's a fake All Might.
-
Who said it's even our All Might. Toga-esque shapeshifting quirk incoming?
-
I'm hoping that the two heroes part of the title explains this White eyed All Might.

It was him all this time!

No. I'm not. Why?

No. I'm not. Why?
Oh because the "white-eye" all might is explained in the manga, so I was curious why you were hoping for the movie to explain it

Can you post it? I don't remember that and I can't backtrack and read older chapters since they got taken down.

Found it. From All Might's volume one profile:
"The whites of his eyes are all black when in his True Form (skinny). He's so gaunt that they're perpetually in shadow. Only his pupils glisten, reflecting the true strength and dignity of the 'symbol of peace.'
It's like everything that his Muscle Form represents is condensed into those pupils. But I'm really not a good enough artist to properly express that. Sorry."It's implied Muscle Form All Might has whites in his eyes but we never see them. Yeah, something seems fishy or that's a fresh outta school All Might.

Thanks Nectar. Yeah I dunno why he didn't just make the whites of his eyes black in general. Instead of a, it's shadows lol.

Shadows look better. More intimidating. Skinny form looks ghoulish to reflect how hollow of a shell he looks and the muscle form looks almost like a mask making him feel larger than life.
Literally black scleras all of the time instead look creepy and make him look more anti-hero.
-
I dunno. I like it better than it's just shadows. Especially since he's drawn that way 99% of the time. All those toys and merch ust have the black eyes. I don't feel he looks anti hero. I just thought it was a nice difference to have the top hero also not look like a normal muscular guy since there's such a wide range in how people with Quirks look. The eyes make a big difference to me.

Ohhhhhh wait, I was under the impression from Chapter 127, that the vinegar incident caused All Might's eyes to turn black, is that not the case?
-
^Far as I know the vinegar scene was only used to explain Deku's All Might face.
-
La Brava's quirk… Sigh.
-
I liked the chapter, but La Brava´s quirk is a little weird, a simple boosting/doping quirk wouldn´t be weird, but the requirement and the use of the word "Power Level" threw me away a little.
