He had his shining moment, and that was him sniping Spandam. Now stop expecting anything else from him, you're hurting yourself.
Have you forgotten that Usopp also recruited both of the giants to help out the GalleyLa workers and the Franky Family?

Of course I didn't. How could I forget it, a feat for the ages.
did i double post? don't think i did. posted twice consecutively perhaps, but didn't do doubles of any posts.
raws ARE from shonen jump. have u even touched a shonen jump before?
the irony in ur post is overwhelming..
Double posting means posting twice in a row, error or not. You've got an edit button, so please use it.
Someone scans the raws and posts them online on thursday while the SJ in Japan is released on Monday I believe.
we get the jumps on fridays here in the US. japan doesn't get it until monday of the following week. you can find them at kinokuniya or sanseido. some mitsuwa marketplace even sells them.

Alright, let's try this question. How long do YOU guys think you'd last in a fight against usopp?

A week, minimum. However, there's the small problem of Usopp's immortality. :/

My point was twofold: A, usopp could take any normal dude, B, it's silly to argue about the limitations of fictional characters, Oda will decide what they are.
@e1n:
chang and eggy presented the two sides of the story.
the optimists:

the pessimists:

me, i'd go with the 2nd one.

Haha, I was waiting for that to turn up here. XD
Daaamn I'm so anxious to read this chapter, stupid spoiler teasing me. Since the spoiler came out earlier…maybe the chapter will come out early...maybe...:ninja:
He had his shining moment, and that was him sniping Spandam. Now stop expecting anything else from him, you're hurting yourself.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't need Usopp to unleash a hellstorm on his enemies to have a shining moment.
I went out yesterday to buy a box of tissues specifically for this coming chapter because he's going to make a serious and monumental impression on Luffy.
Maybe it's been too long and some memories have faded, but when Usopp challenged Luffy on top of Robin leaving and Merry being done for, it was like the OP world was falling to pieces. To have a character like Usopp commit mutiny was something I could NEVER have imagined and their argument hit me like a ton of bricks.
That was almost 2 and a half years ago now and maybe we've just gotten used to his antics as Soge King but the fact remains, that incident was never resolved and even if everyone else knows it, Usopp was still hiding himself and of course Luffy is completely in the dark.
Usopp is the hero of this arc who will not only mend the fence that HE broke but save the entire crew with his confession and acceptance. Of course it's gonna take Luffy to be a man and accept his haste in such a seemingly straight-forward situation.
Next chapter will be all sorts of badassery and tears if Oda does what I hope against hope that he does.
say what.
japan gets them earliest.
Like hell they do. If they did I'd be the happiest guy on Earth. I wait until Sunday night/ Monday morning to walk my ass down to Family Mart and pick up a copy. That would be the Monday AFTER the scans/pictures are online.
Actually, I think Usopp has begun the transformation to Brave Warrior of the Sea. He did it by challenging Luffy. Whatever he does by the end of the arc, and I DO hope he comes out with something spectacular, he's taken a gigantic step forewards.
My point was twofold: A, usopp could take any normal dude, B, it's silly to argue about the limitations of fictional characters, Oda will decide what they are.
I'm pretty confident anyone in the real world could take Usopp, special sniping skills and dial tech or not. Our biggest disadvantage is our fleshy mortal bodies; we'd eventually lose out in the end since Usopp is unkillable.
Think of it this way. A 4-ton slug from a guy with a Barry Bonds build to the head would cleanly shave said head off of a person's body. All Mr.4 managed to do was crack Usopp's skull.
He's immortal and I sure as heck wouldn't want to fight him.
sigh I give up. Either I'm hopeless or you guys are. I can't tell.

**Most people won't be able survive an exoplosion from Usopp.
and he also above average physically.**
I think Terek meant "Couldn't" take Ussop, since otherwise the rest of his paragraph wouldn't make sense.
Realistically though, shooting a gunpowder ball between the eyes should, if not kill you, scar you for life. Luckily, everyone in One Piece is just slightly superhuman. Ussop is a normal man among giants in One Piece, while is "rea life" Ussop would be a freakin' athlete among normal men.
I agree with Voodzik though, Ussop is on the path to becoming a Brave Warrior. Suffering adds character, and crying is weakness leaving the body. Ussop's done plenty of both this arc. Yeah, I'm optamistic.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't need Usopp to unleash a hellstorm on his enemies to have a shining moment.
Well to each his own, I don't read One Piece for wangst, obvious tearjerking scenes and corny make ups, but if that's what you like more power to you.
The thing with Usopp is I completely misunderstood his purpose and how Oda intended to use him. I thought he was the classical underdog character no one puts faith in but somehow manages to kick ass, in a more unconventional fashion than the likes of Luffy or Zoro, but still.
While he is not; he's the token emotional trainwreck and incompetent fighter. Now that I figured this, I have no interest in him anymore and will be glad to see a guy like Franky join to keep me interested in the Strawhats crew.
I dunno how you got this far in OP if it's like "argh, mushy stuff!"
Okay, I liked him. For what he was. He didn't work nearly as hard or didn't have the chance to become a great warrior like Zoro, and so I felt it was only fair that he didn't. The top three would be living jokes if a guy that pissed himself at Jango did what they were waiting to do since childhood. Just because he gets kicked in the face and treated bad for an arc, Jabura deserves to fall to a smelly egg/Impact? Outta here, folks. I'm so glad Oda didn't try to compensate for his two days of despair, and that the people with the crazy claims just got frustrated to the end of the Earth (call him a bad character?), because it's something I've been trying to get across since he got in Luffy's face.
Hey don't get me wrong I like mushy stuff too, I got teary eyed a couple of times like a little wuss reading One Piece, but it's not what I'm searching for in priority. It works well as a plus, nothing else. Most important thing for me is action, plain and simple.
As for Jyabura, the thing that pissed me off wasn't the fact he couldn't beat him, which by shonen logics is normal, but the fact he's been put in that situation to begin with. Damsel in distress again, Princess Peach of the One Piece world.
Anyway I'm rambling again.
Eh, we're more or less on the same page. The only thing is that I kinda forgot about that.

Dude, that's only been different since Water 7. If you just called him an incompetent fighter, then isn't he forfilling the underdog role? You sure as hell won't believe it when Ussop wins again.
Underdogs need to fail every now and then to makes themselves underdogs.
That's been different since Skypiea. And even in Alabasta it was a Pyrrhic victory.
And the key part of your last sentence is "every now and then". Not "constantly".
While he is not; he's the token emotional trainwreck and incompetent fighter. Now that I figured this, I have no interest in him anymore and will be glad to see a guy like Franky join to keep me interested in the Strawhats crew.
may god hear me and make franky NOT join the crew just for the hell of you stopping reading one piece and stopping bothering us with your constant little bitching.
Don't worry, even if he doesn't join I won't leave just to be sure petty douchebags of your kind still get sand in their vagina reading my posts.
With love, Aldrich.

Ussop didn't fair any worse then the other SHs in Skypiea. No one but Luffy could touch Enel, no other SH fought in Jaya, and Davy Back fight was a race. And people in shonen and OP especially get Pyrrhic victories all the time, hell, it's supposed to make their victory that much more glorious.
It's changed since Water 7, and Ussop's only straight out lost 3 times in the past 100 chapters. Franky Family, Jyabura, and Luffy.
If he's an underdog, then he's clearly forfilling his role. He's sure as hell not staying in this supporting role forever, otherwise he would never get into fights to begin with.
The theme with Ussop in Enies Lobby seems to be "helping in everyway that he can without being strong," a point that always seems to fail miserably in shounen manga, otherwise Hinata and all the humans in DBZ would get more praise. Sure, the crew'd be dead without Ussop, but without nailing someone's head into the ground it's wasted effort…really, shounen authors should be aware of this by now. More strong fighters, less strong characters.:getlost:

kinokuniya imports books and magazines. imports are always SLOWER than the original release.
i'm really curious how u americans get the idea that japan would release products meant for their own country in AMERICA first before their own, why they would give america special treatment when more than half the population can't even read japanese.
….Because they do. Are they all lying to themselves while they hold the magazines in their own hands?
WSJ comes out on Mondays in Japan. How the US gets them would depend on how the distribution company is. Perhaps it's like how we can import and get the games by their Japanese release date. I wouldn't be too sure, but considering American and Japanese fans can atest to this...
I think Terek meant "Couldn't" take Ussop, since otherwise the rest of his paragraph wouldn't make sense.
No, I meant US > USOPP, all the time, ceteris paribus. Barring Usopp's weapons and "above average strength" (which I'm sure a lot of people also have), anyone in the modern age is smarter than some primeval pirate.

Smarter? Definitely not. There were cave men as smart as einstein. We information, but our ability to reason hasn't changed since the first man was born.

Smarter? Um, a lot of people are smarter then shounen character, so I'll give you that. But in your last post…

It really sounds like you're saying that no one in real life could beat Ussop, which makes sense since no one in real life has his ridiculous endurance.
With his slingshot, he's snipe us in the eyes just like those marines (the standard "Average man" in One Piece) while in real life…Ussop would still be pretty strong. He lives in a less modern time (no tv, no computer, no couch), and runs on a daily basis, so he's pretty strong.
But wait..ceteris paribus...latin for "with other things being the same." So..if you had the same strength as Ussop, and he had no weapons...you could beat him. Hmm...mmhmmm, yeah...what kind of logic is that?
That applies to pretty much everyone in One Piece and shounen anime! With, ceteris paribus, I could kick the ass of Luffy or Sanji –a short little kid and a tall skinny dude--no sweat, and hell, anyone else I didn't like. If you had the same strength as everyone then you could beat everyone, but that's not how things work and it's a biased way to compare any fight, even Ussops.
In shounen anime, it's much fairer and logical to compare Ussops strength to an average man in that manga, since the "Average man" in One Piece is hardly average. Compared to a marine, Ussop owns. Compared to Jyabura, Ussop's outclassed. See, that works. Yet, by real life standards it's hardly realistic.
Hell, we should just stop comparing One Piece is real life standards. It's actually pretty dumb considering the source material.

We aren't talking about imports. We're talking about DIGITAL SCANS.
Greg here lives in Japan. He KNOWS. And he knows that Jump comes out on Monday in Japan, and we get them here early because someone illegally scans them prior to release. It's not that America is getting it sooner, someone in Japan who works for Jump is scanning them and sending them out to the internet before the hard copies hit the stores. Japanese forums get them early too. It's not what continent, but cyberspace that is lucky to get them early. Understand now? XD

I've often wondered about that. Consider the following:
1: The REAL money from this stuff comes from T-shirts, toys, etc.
2: Hardly anyone online is prosecuted unless they try to ask for money.
3: Somone close to the company has to be the one getting these scans out.
Anyone ever consider the artists themselves, working with the magazines, might be doing it themselves? It's a brilliant advertising gimmick….

Here I thought Oda couldn't be anymore of a badass.

He's also going by what e1n says about getting the books here.

O_O
I'm the board's official poster boy for anti-wangst. Wars have started over less than the reaction to my personal feelings about Robin and her actions last October.
But friendship and love and some of the natural (key word: natural) pain or happiness associated with those are something I'm a sucker for. I can't wait to see them confess their feelings and Luffy take the bull by the horns.
I mean, one of the reasons I read OP is the total lack of wangst. Look at Nami's flashback. How long did that take? But every SINGLE DAMN time I even glance a panel or two of it, Niagra Falls.
I mean, why do you think I don't read Naruto*?
*No offense to Naruto fans. No seriously.

I don't know about other people or distributors, but I had a subscription for Shonen Sunday and Shonen Jump at the Kinokuniya in San Jose for ~8 years before I recently totally converted to digital versions because of a move. What I can say is, Kinokuniya didn't get copies of the magazines for at LEAST 2 weeks after they hit the shelves in Japan. I know this because I was reading the online scans of some of the more popular mangas at the same time like Hikaru no Go, etc. The reason for the delay was because they shipped these magazines by sea. You could only get air shipped stuff if you specially ordered it, and it costed a lot more extra. And even then, I think it still came after the official publish date.
What's "wangst"?
Smarter? Definitely not. There were cave men as smart as einstein. We information, but our ability to reason hasn't changed since the first man was born.
I can't speak for everyone in this forum, but I know I am smarter than Usopp. -.-

No one would knowingly fight an immortal like Usopp; any rational person would run away. If someone lacked the knowledge that he was immortal but had to fight him, there are many capable people in this world who could defeat him, provided he wasn't immortal. It's like taking out any normal sniper during a war situation.
But wait..ceteris paribus…latin for "with other things being the same." So..if you had the same strength as Ussop, and he had no weapons...you could beat him. Hmm...mmhmmm, yeah...what kind of logic is that?
I'm saying that without changing anything, every real adult or older teen alive today is superior to Usopp if Usopp were a real person, barring the immortality issue.
Hell, we should just stop comparing One Piece is real life standards. It's actually pretty dumb considering the source material.
This discussion has already been run into the ground; we might as well. :p
I can't speak for everyone in this forum, but I know I am smarter than Usopp. -.-:p
**Prove it.
What have you done on par with Kabuto? Or the perfect ClimaTact?**
Uhm, Terek? I was reffering specifically to Aldrich's "Primeval Pirate" comment. Not to Usopp in particular. And Usopp is smart plenty.
@Octogon:
**Prove it.
What have you done on par with Kabuto? Or the perfect ClimaTact?**
I've built an electrolytic battery using some atomically stable metal nodes (titanium) and a diluted solution of potassium and sodium ions.
Impressive, but how big off an explosion does that cause terek?
We must REEEALLY be bored if we're trying to argue whether we're smarter than a cartoon character or not. XD
bangs head on wall
@ultimateclima:
Impressive, but how big off an explosion does that cause terek?
A large one! Electrolysis through water produces hydrogen gas, which, when ignited…goes KABOOM!
AWESOME! That sounds so cool Terek!
Gotta agree with Cosmic though…really bored, but with the new chapter in less than 24 hours...
Make any other cool things, Terek?
Make any other cool things, Terek?
Hmm. I've got plans for something, but it's disgusting/inappropriate. D:
