Hey, Yondu died in GotG2! That's the biggest consequence ever in a Marvel movie.
And Quicksilver too. But I wonder how many death fakeouts we had to go through in the MCU to get to that point lol.
-
But see, I don't care that Quicksilver died. He's in a better universe now.
-

You mean the universe that has its best movies/shows when they're outside of the main continuity?

@Count:

I was confused until I remembered that X-Men has a show now.
-
I was confused until I remembered that X-Men has a show now.
I was mainly referring to Deadpool, Logan, Legion, and The New Mutants. But if The Gifted is good, feel free to include it.
-
@Count:
So you don't think kids can handle watching Disney movies?
Oh absolutely since it's not like Disney movies are like war films.
-
I hope Mufasa dies the same way in the Lion King live-action remake. Even grittier!
Hey, Yondu died in GotG2! That's the biggest consequence ever in a Marvel movie.
Yeah, but they did it so stylishly. It's not a death, it's a passing.
-
Oh absolutely since it's not like Disney movies are like war films.
Bambi might disagree with you.
That music is like a three-note version of Jaws. And that poor pheasant.

Moral of the story: Humans suck.

I think it's interesting that despite your pushback against the Marvel "bashing," your own rankings align pretty closely with the general consensus. Your enjoyment of them all might be more than some of the rest of us but it seems like the same things that I like stand out to you.
The big thing that stands out to me is that, depending on your enjoyment of Civil War, we haven't gotten a really top tier MCU movie in a couple years. The top movies (again, sans Civil War) all brought something different and new to the table that made them more interesting; a lot of the material since then has sought to blend those features, creating that kind of "MCU movie tone." That large middle tier isn't bad by any means, but it's also generally not very memorable. The small tweaks they've made (adding Inception magic, making it a teen movie, including a slightly better villain) haven't done enough to make the general structure and tone of the movies different enough to stand above the rest. That's what I, at least, am looking for.
Yeah I definitely recognize the problems with them and that theirs tiers and I agree with most of you guys on why certain ones are better, or where they messed up, but at the end of the day I can still just pop in any of them into my Ps4/dvd player and just enjoy it
I can't say the same though for DC movies or X-men/fantastic four
-
Moral of the story: Humans suck.
Always been the moral.
And yes, the animation is fucking amazing as always.
-
Have you guys seen the reviews it looks like it's gonna be awesome!!!!
-
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/thor_ragnarok_2017
It has 96% out of 89 reviews so far so . . . . I think we can count on it.
-
I saw Thor Ragnarok this week. It is by far the best Thor movie and even tought some of the secondary characters dont get too much to do, the Thor/Hulk interactions are well worth the price of admition.
-
Yeah, many people are probably gonna say it's the best MCU movie.
Very solid film, great in many many aspects
It seems like Marvel listened the critics and stopped making movies for baby boys only
(they're doing good since DoctorStrange)Also the Valkyrie girl could be a feminist icon.
Only thing I could "really" complain about is the spot that's supposed to be in Norway. I'm sure there are hundreds of more beautiful places there, but they chose the lamest cliff possible with just some very green grass around…
-
I saw it yesterday. If you liked the GotG movies, I think there is no way you won't like this one.
Main problems for me was some out of place comedy bits and the villain was kinda eeh. Which is something you could say for pretty much most marvel movies really lol
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
There are 2 characters in the movie I'm curious about how they are portrayed in the comics. If anyone familiar with the comics could tell me about them, I'd appreciate it.
These 2 are
! Korg and Surtur
-
Haven't read Thor in years so I'm not sure on those characters Razgriz tho, I believe…
! Korg is one of Hulk's Warbound in Planet Hulk, and if so he's a stoic yet badass and loyal kinda guy. What specifically do you want to know about him?
Also, I have a question for YOU having seen the movie. Don't give me any specifics, I just want a Yes or No answer please.
! Do we find out in this one where the Soul Stone is?
-

! No, we don't

! Just wanted a general idea of those 2 since I imagine they were the ones most changed for the movie. I can see people who are fans of them being pissy about their portrayal if those people exist lol
! Do we find out in this one where the Soul Stone is?
! Nope
-
Ragnarok spoiler
! Aren't we supposed to get new gods now that the Ragnarok happened ?
! Does that mean Thor is going to die in the next movie ? or something like that ? -
Saw Thor yesterday, can't really say anything that hasn't already been said without going into spoilers. There wasn't much out of place humour as I thought there would be, except for one egregious example near the end that really took me off the movie.
The banter between almost everyone is just gold, and it really shines in Sakaar, which is the strongest part of the movie by far.Hela was fine, but in the long run she's just not memorable, which is a damn shame cause I want a really good female villain in these movies. That being said, Valkyrie is just the best and a welcome addition to Marvel's female roster, and Thor's uber-meta comment about the valkyries was great.
I know most people here will sit through both post-credits scene, but in my opinion if you are somehow in a hurry or really need to go to the bathroom you can skip the second one and watch it in youtube.
P.S.: Marvel, need more Goldblum please
-
Dam. There was two post-credit scenes?
-
Protip. Don't leave a Marvel Movie until the credits are 100% done and the screen has gone blank lol
How we're this many movies in and people haven't gotten that I don't know.
I still see people get up and leave the SECOND the credits start.
-
I swear, Marvel is the reason my kidneys are going to rupture one day for making me refuse to go to the bathroom during the credits.
-
…wait.
It's been 9 years since the MCU began...
...and there are people who STILL leave during the credits?!?
-
Well sometimes, when there are two post-credit scenes, one is relevant, the other is pure trolling, so since the one post–credits scene seemed pretty relevant to me I thought I was good to.go.

GotG final credit scene was worth the laugh.
-
My sister and I just saw the movie. It was so freaking good like wow.
….. She immediately had to come home and draw this... You won't get it if you haven't seen the movie, it's only kindof a spoiler.
!

Just got home from seeing it and I will post more tomorrow, but I loved this. I had some nitpicks, but it easily stood out as the best Thor movie, in my opinion.
And this was easily, no contest, my favorite Stan Lee cameo. Holy shit I was in pain from laughing at his "barber's equipment".
Also managed to get to see it in 3d for the price of the regular ticket! Went to Regal since I was working late tonight, and the latest showing they had was at 11PM. It was a standard showing, but for some reason they only had the film for the 3d version. Unfortunately, it was only after them airing the Pacific Rim Uprising, Black Panther, and Start Wars trailers all in 3D before they came and gave us glasses. But still glad I got to see it in 3d, since I would have been going another time this week for it.
I am curious about a certain Asgradian that was "portrayed" in the movie, but didn't actually appear.
! Lady Sif didn't appear accept for being a part of Loki's play. Curious, since she specifically has appeared on Agents of Shields twice. Why cut the most recognizable female Thor character?
-
I wish 3D didn't give me headaches anymore.

-
Let's hear it for consistency indeed.
-

From what I've gathered online the official explanation seems to be
! Loki, as Odin, banished her offscreen before she'd suspect he wasn't in fact Odin. Which of course raises more questions about when she tries to contact Thor only to not be able to, and possibly discover the ruins of Asgard.
-
Just came back from seeing it. For the most part, I really, really liked. I just didn't like…
[hide]Thor's friends being killed off in such a shitty way. I actually really liked those characters. Thor 1 and Thor 2 gets a lot of shit, but as someone who was never a huge Thor fan, I went into those liking those characters. So seeing them being tossed aside like nothing is tragic. Oh well…
And I was also hoping they'd go for Hela being Loki's daughter, like in the comics.[/hide]
-
Just saw it.
Thank you, cinematic Marvel Universe, for Norse mythology and an epic futuristic soundtrack in a single movie. For Gladiator Hulk and black haired Cate Blanchett. For Blasters and Valkyries. And for combining all that with funny scenes and not one boring second.
I mean, this movie felt like the realization of those comic plotlines studios often ruled out, because they were too ridiculous or the characters and scenes are too campy. Well, they accomplished it and made it consistent, in itself and in universe. That's a pretty high bar DC, let's see what you can do in two weeks…
-
Saw the movie today.
Fun as hell and easily the best Thor movie.
Also, was really surprised to see that Mark Mothersbaugh, the lead singer of Devo, did the music.
-
So here is what I'm thinking about Loki in Infinity War
! I'm absolutely certain he grabbed the Tesseract on his way out of Asgard, and it will obviously fall into possession of Thanos. However I don't think we're going to get another betrayal from Loki, after everything in this past movie I think he's done being the bad guy. I see him either openly offering the Tesseract in exchange for the Asgardians' safety, or "backstabbing" Thor in some scheme to save the Asgardians.
! Bottom line, I don't think Loki will be doing anything to outright try to usurp Thor anymore, but rather use his bad guy cred to lead Thanos away from the destruction of the remaining Asgardians and Thor.
! I also think we really need to see Korg drop Banner off on earth. I mean….I really need this.I say if we can't get an MCU Ben Grim, Korg is the best back up. #KorgforNewAvengers
-
Man, this Planet Hulk movie was nice.
! I think Norway is a nice place for make a new Asgard.
-
We need to get Korg and Drax in the same scene.
-
Korg is my new favorite MCU character. Plz come back for Infinity War.
I think Ragnarok is going to knock The Avengers out of my top MCU trifecta with the GotG films.
-
Movie could have been better but it's still good enough to knock Civil War out of my #5 spot. Favorite part was easily
! Loki's reactions to Hulk and his fight with Thor. That's what it feels like!
-
Just got back from the movie. I super liked it. I especially like fight scenes where they don't overuse camera angles that blur and confuse the action. I felt like I could follow the hits.
The comedy was at the right level to me. I just enjoyed myself. The only things I would say I didn't enjoy were
! The long bit of pouty Hulk. I didn't really find that portion as engaging. But I did like Hulk interacting with Valkarie. And Thor constantly trying to use Black Widow's calming technique on Banner.
-
Well, Thor blew it out of the park, as expected.
-
So I enjoy the movie fine enough. Especially after the villain send them to the place.
Thor was changed for this movie
! His personality was the one from the short of where he was during civil war rather his normal one which was weird.
Marvel's is really getting annoying inserting humor everywhere. It was especially jarring during the first part of the movie where a joke had to be put every single time to undercut any tension or important moment. Thankfully once we change scenery it doesn't take to long to switch to a more GOTG(first one) way of doing humor where it is here but the important moments and emotional beats are allowed to play out before the humor comes back or integrate as part of the scene rather than a distraction from it
! Thor sending the piece of metal at Loki is funny but also a way to show how he cannot trust his brother. Same with the taser moment.
Overall the humor worked fine enough once we were passed the first part. It failed a lot but when it landed it landed strong. The humor mostly worked when it was an unexpected.
Thor's companion were pretty great and I think their integration worked well. He got his own avengers team without being forced or detracting from his story.
What I enjoy about the movie is that it is the first in a while that didn't simply feel like a placeholder until the next avenger. They were real personal stakes, real conflict, real evolution and real consequences. I don't watch that movie thinking that was a nice side adventure of Thor so we don't forget he exist until the avengers. And the stakes aren't tied to the future of the MCU
And contrarily to "Captain America 3" the main character didn't just turned into another person in the main cast but stayed the focus from A to Z.
To me the movie manage the great accomplishment of being in the universe while also being his own something I'm not sure any other movie did(Winter soldier and GOTG feel remote).
So where Homecoming earned my respect but was fairly clinical in his execution leaving little in term soul and enjoyment Thor manage to be way less good "objectively"(althought I don't believe in objectivity of art) but earn respect for doing a real movie that also has soul and enjoyment. If Homecoming is a clinical 9 Thor is enjoyable 7.
Random spoiler thoughts:
! -Considering how much people compare them I find it funny that Thor's theme reminded of Wonder wonman's at least at the beginning.
! - It seems they are preparing the ground for infinity war. Hulk is starting to show his limit rather than being the usual unstoppable force and Strange got upgraded to high level of sorcery with ease.
! -Did I say how much I love that the movie was his own thing. There was a real story about Thor growing up to feel worthy and becoming better. Their some great moments and a real resolution with the brother. Asgard got destroyed and Thor is even missing an eye.
! -I think the themes and conflict were really well handled expect for Hera's executioner. I especially liked the Thor and Loki moments(humor and serious)and the resolution well symbolize with him catching the thing to prove he is really there this time.
! - I would have preferred if Thor had his first vision of Odin in a dream or just heard a voice. In the middle of a battle it was just weird.
! -That fight between Thor and Hulk was pretty great and blood pumping. I especially like when Thor enters god.The constant gear switching was great and one thing I was not sure if they'd and I'm glad is having Thor dominate by using his martial skills.
! - I really enjoy watching the asgardian fight in term of choreography. That exchange between Loki and the Valkyrie is just great.
! - Highlight of humor: Thor getting hit by the ball, that random story about Loki as a snake made even greater by Loki smirking at the end, a last one I can't remember right now.
! - Rock guy delivery was pretty good for most of the time but they shouldn't have went for humor at the end when Thor is asking where to go. It's the one moment where his humor was to much and ruined/diminished the moment.
! -Raiden Thor is great. Although since he gets power from Asgard I wonder if he kept that.
! -Hera was good in terms of villain my opinion. She is no vulture but she isn't subpar either. I especially like her trying to fight the giant fire monster at the end and her whole story and actions fitted the themed this movie was telling. Will she be remembered? Probably not. But she did a good job as a villain as far as I am concerned. -
Think Ragnarok is now my favorite Marvel movie, but I also strongly believe comic-book movies should be pretty goofy. Like the adjustments they've made to Thor's character where he's now a little dim but very conscious of being a hero.
And, well…
! Immigrant Song comeback at the end was incredibly telegraphed, but damned if I didn't love it to pieces.
-
Loki
! The Loki bits were really all I could have hoped for. The way he looked at Odin after he still referred to him as a son was really well done. Tom really does nice subtle things with Loki. He just seems to have fun with the role. The snake story and Get Help had me dying. Also his "Excuse me?" After Hela told them to kneel was a nice call back. Loki works well as an anti hero.
! I kinda want all the characters that were once bad guys to hang out in Avengers 4. Loki, Winter Solider and Nebula to all have a moment together lol. -
! - The build-up to Hulk transformation was good but I don't it was paid of well in terms of the drama it was seeding.
! - Infinity war should only have Hulk in it considering the erasure of Banner was the risk of that last transformation.
! I really don't like funny Thor(the character) I hope he becomes normal again next time he appears. -
! It's hard to see Loki being an ally from now on. I think it would be better for him to go Immortal Joe on some Mad Max planet.
-
The X-Men (Including Deadpool) and Fantastic Four properties may be heading back home to Disney/Marvel soon. Disney has a new plan to get them back you see. It's called "Just buy all of 20th Century Fox".
They'd ONLY be getting Fox's Movie stuff however. Fox would still maintain control of their
Propaganda wingnews channel and sports stuff.
