Oh my gosh. I was just making plans to finally finally start reading Earthsea. I always loved how honest she was in interviews and stuff. Like she never ate a slice of humble pie in her life, which is so refreshing. Truly one of the giants of sci-fi/fantasy, and I'm damn ashamed of having never gotten to her works. This is so sad.

Cartoonist Mort Walker passed away the other day at the age of ninety-four; best known for creating Beetle Bailey in 1950, he was actually a professional cartoonist well before that selling cartoons to children's magazines at age fourteen and drawing a daily strip for a local newspaper at fifteen. He was actually in the industry for eight decades.
