Huh, i haven't followed the thread lately so i don't know what people are thinking about the whole Mirio as Sir's choice successor thing, but i really hope he won't get lamely outshined by Midoriya in this arc, the guy is awesome.
My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist
-
-
Well it's not about just being outshined so much as it being likely that he has his quirk damaged permanently.
-
Great chapter! Mirio is just like the kind of character that always bores to death, but man I like this guy.
And people totally got the hints about the truth serum quirk last chapter.
-
Man it's a good thing the kid with the mind control quirk isn't with the guy who can force you to say the truth lol.
The villains have a wide variety of messed up quirks.
Dead Drunk is pretty nifty too.
Oh boy. No way is Mirio walking away with getting wrecked.
-
I'm 85% sure Horikoshi conceived of Mirio's quirk precisely for a Phantom Menace reference.
Rip Magne?

Wouldn't shock me.
Rip Magne?
That's been the (confirmed) case for at least three chapters now.

It hasn't, really. There was the theory that one of the cleansers was Magne because his hair looked very similar. With the drunkard's ability revealed we can finally confirm that he's not one of them.

First I've heard of that. That said I'd never have treated it as a serious theory even if I had so I stand by my statement.

That truth quirk can mess you up in horrible ways. Bravo, Horikoshi.
Good job, Mirio. Starting to think this Eri is a Twice clone, probably Overhaul and Cronostatis too. All three real bodies already escaped.Waiting for Twice's Attack of the Clones super move.

I don't think so. Twice is limited to 2 copies.
-
And we already saw both, the Toga and theโฆ big guy.
-
It took me a second read to understand Mirio attacks, but then I remembered if he solidifies inside something he is forcibly expelled. He is quickly phasing to enter the walls and then solidifying back so he is propelled against his enemies at great speeds.
Just sharing in case someone else didn't get it.

That's also how he shot Eri out of Chronostasis' grip.

The only way this would be possible is if Twice cloned himself and as we saw he never wants to do that again and essentially shuts down mentally at the prospect. Toga had a clone with her when fighting Lock and Twice had a clone of Rappa fighting against Sir. The Truth quirk revealed Twice can only clone 2 things simultaneously.
โ- Update From New Post Merge ---
Did Horikoshi actually made a reference to the first Star Wars prequel or that was MS just messing around?
Found the Japanese version. Horikoshi literally wrote out Phantom Menace in Japanese.
-
Finally found that page I was looking for in regards to Twice's ability in regards to himself.
http://bato.to/reader#c21580d8a3273ee1_14
That's kinda messed up if he's not sure if he's the original. But I assume he must be. It'd be kinda weird if a low HP clone could still be around if the originator is dead.
Also is there no episode this week?
-
No episode this week.
Now I got plenty of time to figure out the point in Toga getting a drop of Deku's blood. That tranformation will probably last a minute, five tops. -

Horikoshi's a Star Wars nut. If there is a Star Wars reference on this series you can usually bet it's actually him.
-
I actually didn't notice that Mirio's special attack was drawn in a 90ยบ angle. This is a great use of the medium.
He is also shown speeding up by sinking his toes into the ground and ejecting them.

That really is a very neat touch.

Eri jumping into the arms of Fake Deku thinking her nightmare is over. If Horikoshi has the balls to pull that off I'll never doubt him again.
-
The thing is that I doubt shigaraki would treat her remotely as bad as overhaul, look at Magne, Twice and Toga.
That's if her quirk is useful.
-

Oooooh. Damn that'd be excellent. Something that could haunt Deku and Sri for a long time.
I would like for him to not really be successful so early. He's just got his provisional license and he's being let on a huge mission. I feel like him failing here and the others would help keep them from being too far ahead of the other students career wise.
-
That's one this arc has subtly done quite well. This is very clearly a pro-level mission and the focus has mainly been on the heroes and upperclassmen. Deku has been useful a couple times but still very much feels like a sidekick. It's smart writing to keep scaling his growth carefully.

Just realized how insanely broken he would have been if he got One For All.

Completely agree. This arc hasn't really picked my interest that much, but if that's the route it's going to take, I will forgive everything and just applaud the author and his balls to pull it off!
-

What if she bonds with them enough to comply through simple blood samples? Or perhaps they simply use Twice clones who share her Quirk.
-
@Count:

That'd still be pretty horrible, since the clones are conscious beings.
Reminds me Hugh Jackman's trick in The Prestige.

It would be horrible. But the story is already presenting Twice's clones dying all over the place without any emphasis on a remorse aspect for them outside of his backstory. And if anything, this would make for an interesting ethical dilemma for Eri and how she views the League of Villains.
-
Right.
The Dabi clone seemed more than happy to die for the cause, which definitely seemed odd in retrospect.
-
Only twice's clones seemed to be trully sentient, the rest tho:
!
Maybe it's about the time they are alive, short existance they feel like a shadow clone, but if enough time passes, they start to want to live.
-
Volume 15 Cover:
!
What an uninspired cover. Especially for a volume that focuses on Kirishima and Tamaki more than Deku. It looks a bit nice for what it is on its own, but wow.

I'm not sure Mr Meeseeks are a good example of that, considering they're incredibly sentient and sapient, clearly express desire and motives, and follow up independent actions based on it.
They don't willingly die because they lack sentience, they willingly die because existence is pain lol
They're basically born with the knowledge and truth that the innocent butter passing robot didn't have. -

I have no clue why this keeps happening but for such a good series with frequently striking art, the volume covers rarely better than mediocre. It's a hugely missed opportunity to capitalize on the series' Western comics influences, but even beyond that they're uninspiring compared to more traditional manga.
-
Yeah, I don't like Midoriya's face as well.
-
I want to know when he's finally going to fix that ugly tie he has.

I've actually heard Midoriya's school tie is the way it is beside he ties it himself without really knowing how.
-

I don't know when I noticed his tie was the only one like that. But it made me laugh. Like is it tied wrong? Or just too short?
-

I know. Horikoshi confirmed this in his volume character bio, I believe. But I still sometimes wonder if he's actually going to meet somebody who fixes it for him lol. Uraraka doing that would be cute.

That does sound like either a romance moment. Or one of the guys suddenly fixing it.

Imagine Bakugou fixing Deku's tie as a sign of finally acknowledging him as an equal.

Or All Might to go with the Father Figure thing they got going

Bakugou doesn't even wear a tie. Lol. Him fixing it would be pretty funny though.
" I'M FIXING IT CAUSE IT'S BEEN YEARS YOU FUCKING NERD! GET IT RIGHT!"
-
Or All Might to go with the Father Figure thing they got going
I like that idea the best. Or Sir can do it when he finally respects Deku as the nest inheritor of One for All.
-
Yeah All Might fixing it before graduation would be nice.
Do you guys think we'll ever see Deku's dad? Or is he one of those characters in place to let us know a character doesn't have a single parent, but that they're completely unimportant?
-
The second one. He works away and it's mostly irrelevant, acording to.. something I read and can't remember what it was.
The databook?

Yeah. I remember he got a brief mention about being out of country. But I wasn't sure if he'd be actually relevant or not. Or if he's a trope invisible parent.
