Is there no way to watch it live via streaming???
Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ)

I haven't found any live streams. :(
-
Damn. Was searching as well an came empty as well. Oh well. If it was anything prominent then we will definitely hear about it stat.
-
It doesn't seem like anything new came out of the panel. -_-
It was mostly about Film Gold. Good thing I didn't get my hopes up. -
I guess the consolation prize today for no new announcements was two new episodes.
-
I believe Mike works on Attack on Titan which just released its second season. Coincidentally, the last time Attack on Titan got a rushed dub Joel also took over. Now I don't mind Joel for the most part and I think he's a really cool guy just like Mike from what I've heard of him through commentaries and such. But I would like to see Mike work on one or two full seasons at a time instead of just a small batch. Meh, if Mike can possibly direct Punk Hazard and at least parts of Dressrosa I'll be okay with this.
-
So that tweet from Michelle Rojas that I posted the link to a week ago wasn't her writing the script for a Punk Hazard episode, she was timecoding it meaning that the script hasn't been written and that she was just putting the timecodes for the lines into the script along with the character names before she hands it off to the script writer. So the scripts for the Punk Hazard arc are starting to be written right now which is what we initially thought, so dubbing for it will start very soon probably as Daniel Baugh (Jimbei's VA) said on the One Piece Podcast a couple weeks ago that they just recently wrapped up Fishman Island so that probably puts them at the Z's Ambition arc right now with Punk Hazard very soon after

With 542 seemingly in tact, interesting
I doubt 542 is on the set. Since Funimation listed Season 9, Voyage 3 runtime for 275 minutes. Which means the set will be 11 episodes. Since the usual 12 episodes set have an 300 minutes runtime.
-
My god Roger's voice is the worst thing I've ever heard.
-
you did what is wrong with it.
I think he sounds good and pirate like.
-
So this is it.
-
So Season 9 will be 5 sets, Season 10 (Punk Hazard) should be 4 sets, and Season 11/12 (All of Dressrosa) should be 10 sets total, right?
And then 3 for Zou probably? -
How many episodes were there in Zou?
-
How many episodes were there in Zou?
29 episodes if they include up to Chapter 824 (Episode 779) in Zou.
If Chapter 822 (Episode 776) ends the arc, it's 26 episodes.
-
you did what is wrong with it.
I think he sounds good and pirate like.
Extremely hammy acting and an odd voice (way too deep for his stature). Always thought he sounded fine in the introduction, though, but that flashback scene with Rayleigh was unbearable.
Only another week or two until we get the new set. Anything you folks are looking forward to on it? Finally got around to watching a few more of the episodes on voyage one last night. Looking forward to Luffy befriending Suremi. Skimmed the next episode to hear a hint of Decken's voice. Sounds great so far. I noticed Caribou more or less dropped his fancy accent/enunciation when he joined the crew. Always odd when the voice actor changes their take on the character halfway through…
-
Too deep for his stature? It's not like the Japanese voice is that much less deep.
I…do admit the hammy cliche pirate voice is a bit annoying though. I mean if (when) Roger eventually gets a multi-episode flashback saga explaining who he is and whatnot, I'd hope they'd work to tone down the pirate accent a bit to make him sound less like the guy at the start of the Spongebob opening.

Well this is interesting.
Sony Pictures acquired Funimation. I wonder what effect it will have on Funimation
http://deadline.com/2017/07/sony-pictures-tv-networks-acquires-majority-stake-funimation-japanese-anime-1202139652/ -
Yeah. I saw that. Wondering if it'll affect anything.
-
Meh. I have a bad feeling about this.
-
Pretty sure at&t owns crunchyroll and absolutely nothing came of it. Yet anyway.
-
I see more expensive anime in our future
-
They'll probably consolidate to use Sony's distributors, which could indeed mean a price hike.

http://deadline.com/2017/07/sony-pictures-tv-networks-acquires-majority-stake-funimation-japanese-anime-1202139652/I hope it doesn't mess with DBZA…
-
Oh shit.
Merging companies, not just in the case of media, NEVER usually bodes well. Hopefully I am overreacting but…..
-
They put out an FAQ where they found twenty ways to say that it won't change anything.
-
Lol. Saw that as well. Still wont stop all the doomsday soothe Sayers.
-
This is a minor thing, but it's nice to see One Piece mentioned among the list of popular anime titles in Sony Pictures Television's official statement.
-
This is the end of the one piece dub
So long friends
Unsheaths samurai sword
-
It's obvious that Sony sees One Piece as a profitable and valuable IP so I wonder if this could lead to acquisitions of the older movies and the rest of the TV specials
-
While I'm hoping everything is fine, it is curious to me considering I've seen many people theorize on Sony beginning to pull out of movies all together. Especially given their recent flops in the animation area _cough_Emojimovie_coughcough._ They've been bleeding money and have struggled to have anything to capitalize on outside of existing franchises they hold the rights to (Ghostbusters, Spider-man). I've even seen many people speculate on a bunch of these properties possibly being sold off to make up for the losses their films have been causing. Hell, one of the big issues Amazing Spider-man 2 killed that reboot was because it cost so much, have multiple re-shoots, and then not perform well.
Sony Pictures is just a list of properties that are attention grabbing, and then horribly financially managed and contain too much producer influence.
Obviously anime is a different beast all together, and with luck Sony is literally just going to be the bank for Funimation and help with distribution, but let them do their own thing. That's the best we can hope for. My ultimate fear is that Sony will actually find ways to increase the popularity of some of these franchises, get too greedy and begin to influence Funimation's work.
For example, I'd love to see whatever One Piece or Dragon Ball movie have a bigger release in theaters, and more advertising for the home releases. I'd be upset, however, if something like Dragon Ball increases in sales and popularity leading to Sony decided "we need X celebrity to play the villain in your next movie". Or even to go further and demand certain changes to scripts "I know it's not in the original, but our research has found people of this demographic loves memes, so say Over 9000 when you can"
And to double AfroSamurai's concern, it does put certain groups like Team 4 Star in a weird legal area. Obviously they are in a full legal right to parody the series, but that legality means nothing to Youtube if an owner is claiming copyright. I'm not too sure about how series Sony is about seeking out infringements of their copyright, but if it was say on a level of Viacom's, something like this deal between them and Funimation would cripple things like T4S.
I'm not all paranoid, I really am hoping that they just let Funi do their thing and give them more resources and let them continue the work they've been doing. But Sony is absolutely not a company I trust to handle so many properties I enjoy.
-
Bye bye, Gen Fukunaga. It'll be nice knowing you. Once Sony decides your sorry ass ain't worth shit to them anymore, you'll enjoy your new career dumpster diving. With any luck, it'll be a flaming dumpster.
-
Kaba, whatever problem you have with him is your business. He still has his job, so please don't drive the conversation wishing someone ill will.
-
With the history of his company's constant mishandling of the Dragon Ball property for more than a decade and his personal stamp of approval over every business decision that was made regarding it which alienated casual and hardcore anime fans alike, I say I'm looking forward to the day that Sony does decide to oust him from power. To me, Gen Fukunaga is nothing but a garbage pail and his ousting will be well deserved.
-
I don't have a strong opinion on him one way or the other, but I'm telling you to keep your comments and criticisms civil and on topic. Name calling and such won't be tolerated.
-
Just to further my own point on the standing of Sony Pictures, after not only the Emojii movie did as well as any normal person would expect, reviews for "The Dark Tower" are looking abysmal. Again, anime and live action films are two entirely separate beasts, however it certainly shows their track record of properties going through hectic and non consistent development and being heavily influenced by higher ups.
A legitimate fear is them leaning on the success of these anime, trying to over expand it in some way and it backfiring.
-

So you want a person to be physically harmed in a fiery garbage pail because of what he did to an anime? You know, people didn't even go that far with 4Kids. Chill out, I've literally seen you comment the same thing in like 3 different places
-
Based on Monica Rial's Twitter activity, she is currently writing scripts for Punk Hazard.

It is tolerated amongst the senior members of these forums and you know it, Shift. Don't sell me this "all members are under the same rules and regulations" bullshit. Monkey King is a prime example of this.

Where in any of my posts did I say I wanted Fukunaga to be physically harmed in a fiery garbage pail? I didn't. As for the man in question: I don't respect Gen Fukunaga. I just don't. He's a piece of shit who has taken advantage of the anime industry for his own ends and has misled his most devoted customers for the sake of "better" releases. You guys are also just as guilty as he is by justifying his practices for the sake of your entitled needs.

So we pretty much got confirmation that, at the very least when it comes to popularity and sales, One Piece is beaten by these 4 other anime FUNi owns –
DBZ
Fairy Tail
My Hero Academia
Attack On Titan
If you check on their youtube page -- https://www.youtube.com/user/FUNimation/videos?shelf_id=49&view=0&sort=dd
You'll see that they had 4 videos talking about the four most big series they feel they have, and for each week they talked about their world. OP wasn't included… which is kinda bullshit considering theyre talking about "the world" of these series when OP puts the most effort into it's "world", but I guess it just isn't as popular as these 4. Honestly, I knew DBZ and AoT were more popular but MHA and FT beating it really surprises me.
Not to mention OP isn't even being offered through Microsofts anime month sale, yet every other popular show basically is. Wtf?
Well, I guess we know where OP stands. I'm assuming OP is in the top 5 or top 10 anime FUNi owns, but the fact it's among one of the only series being absent in Microsofts sale makes me question just where OP stands here. I can't quite figure it out. Sony lists it among it's reasons for acquiring FUNi and it's getting a live action show made in America, but then stuff like this and Toonami's cancelation make me question if it's truely even a blip in the radar here. Not to mention tripe like FT being liked more here… Ugh, it's a bit frustrating but whatever. In the end I guess it doesn't really matter - Just wish things were different. No matter what people say, popularity DOES bring in more perks for a series and I just wish OP was worthwhile here to get those perks. Like the older movies dubbed, or broadcast dubs (something I'm sure FT will get when it returns) and more worthwhile extras on DVD releases (like DBZ gets) Stuff like that is always cool.
Honestly, it's the anime's fault for being such dragged out trash and for Toei not dividing the series for when they entered the New World and started the episode count over again. People always complain about how many episodes OP has, even though Dragonball and Naruto both have nearly the same amount - it's just that they divided their series and reset the episode count for each one so it gave the illusion the the series isn't really THAT long - which is why you hardly see people care about DBZ and Naruto being long. But seeing "Episode 800" in OP's case really does push people away. Same as with Detective Conan.
-
Nice try, Roman Mack. I almost took that seriously about halfway through.

Ugh, hate me all you want, but at least check the damn links - I'm not making this up.
Who I am doesn't change what this is. It's right there to check for yourself. Forget who I am and lets just focus on this. The thread is dead anyway so we might as well have some discussion about it.

You say this after Sony specifically mentioned One Piece as a popular property for the FUNi acquisition. Literally no one cares about this doom and gloom attitude of yours

Hence why I said I'm confused why it wasn't included in those videos or in Microsofts anime month sale.
Look, if you don't care, then don't reply about the topic. Show me you don't care. Telling me you dont care and then ridiculing me for who I am doesnt show me you don't care.
I'm not insulting anyone and I brought in something to talk about in a currently dead thread. Lets think about why it wasnt included in both these pages I presented.

You get too worked up about little things like this that don't matter. One Piece isn't on Microsoft Video so that's likely why it wasn't mentioned. 500+ episodes have been dubbed, it's a staple for them

But have you wondered why it isn't when nearly every other popular anime series is? Why is One Piece the odd-one-out? Doesn't that make you curious?
It's obvious OP is able to sustain itself, which is why the dub is still going. But why is it contantly excluded from things like this? Or dropped from other things when other similar shows stay put (Toonami).
It just seems like odd things to happen to a series if it's so popular here in the states. And there's always that contradiction that confuses me - is it popular here or not? I'm not even saying popular like DBZ or AOT, but if even FT and MHA beat it… how popular can it really be?
-
Not to mention that Toonami's ratings have been tanking recently so it's a good thing that One Piece isn't on there. The whole Sony deal will only benefit the series even more in the US and possibly get it on other networks if they're interested. All these doom and gloom thoughts belong in 2011, not 2017

Fairy Tale is not as popular as One Piece and in terms of sales, My Hero Academia started last year and hasn't even begun to reach the amount of sales that One Piece has. It's not worth all these paragraphs when we know it's doing well

Getting back on topic, I'm honestly super curious who Shirahoshi's English VA is, we've gotten no confirmation about who it is yet
-
They have been, and I honestly don't see how OP would be doing any worse than the shows on now. But whatever. I honestly don't think this means much when it comes to OP on TV given its had plently of chances and hasn't really done well. But miracles can happen I suppose.
You say that because you consider OP's worldwide popularity. But I'm talking about solely in the US. FT is advertised quite frequently on FUNiNOW, it's YouTube viewer-hits typically do better than OP's (just look at the amount of views for the new FT movie trailer and compare it to FILM Gold's, both on FUNi's YT account) it's on Netflix (which for some reason OP isn't on) and has more merchandise in stores like Hot Topic and Spencers. Not to mention FUNi excluding OP from it's Anime Month videos while including FT and MHA, and I'm fairly certain those two are more popular and sell more on average. Watch the limited FT movie release, which actually won't air as many days as OP did, somehow do better anyways in the box-office. Lol
Now, OP probably has sold more overall given that it's been in FUNi's hands for much longer than FT and MHA has, but looking at things currently, I'd be surprised if OP sells more given recent happenings.
