I like Caulifa. I dislike Kale.
Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
-
-
U2 had the Yardrat that Caulifla eliminated
He's not eliminated yet you can see him in the preview for next episode.
-
I like Caulifla and Kale so you have my support. I much prefer Kale to Broly.
As for this episode, man Android 18 is MVP. She took out two pride troopers and has got as many ring-outs solo as both Goku and Vegeta.
Continuing the trend, universe 7 & 6 are doing everything for everyone having every single knock-out between them (except that one guy Basil got). So far, the only universes with knock-outs are the three weakest ones.
I hope the Universe 2 fighters don't get taken out next episode. I want them to do some damage unlike the Pride Troopers who are just down 6/10 members and haven't done anything.
-
Were these new Prider Troopers' names puns? Kahseral made me think Casserole and Tupper Tupperware. The others seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn't put a finger on what they'd be.
-
U11 is supposed to have the strongest single fighter, just as the rest of U7 seems to pale against Goku and Vegeta. And just like U7 and U6 are "mirror universes", U11 has U2 who also has a character activelly fighting in the opening.
There's also the fact that Frieza and Frost might highjack everything suddenly.
I'd like to think that Kale and Caulifa interaction with Goku, plus Hit, plus Cabba, Botamo and Mageta with Vegeta, means that if U6 is winning, and U7 is in second place they would dare to tie on purpose to save them, and stablish that they have become stronger thanks to their rivalry.

Yes. The small one's name is a reference to refrigerator.

The DB wiki kind of has the thing in one place, but not the format that I like: http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Tournament_of_Power
U2: 10 in, the Yardrat is IN and Brienne is ready to rumble.
U3: 7 in, the two hyped characters already KO.
U4: 7 in, the "bird ninja" and the two hidden characters still in
U6: 10 in
U7: 9 in, Krillin Owned count +1.
U9: 0 in, 0 in existence
U10: 4 in, but they don't have any hyped characters so..
U11: 4 in, but with the most hyped opponent, and Toppo, and Berus Jr.51 figthers still in.
Even minor fighters have been named once eliminated, like the nameless dude that Cabba KOed a while ago and the Lizard pride trooper.

You know what? I kind of like these confusing formats of tournaments, I remember being overlly invested on My Hero academia more confusing parts of the school festival tournament.

The reason why I like Kale now is that her SSJ transformation is the one that makes most sense among the U6 Saiyans. She actually sees someone she cares about beaten up. It makes most sense with her insecure personality, but her actually learning to control her power gives her character direction along with differentiating her from Broly.
The reason why I like Caulifla is because she genuinely believes in and cares about Kale and that she's just another Saiyan. She wants to get stronger and a good fight.
Both share the fact that they aren't any different from male Saiyans or motivated by anything stereotypical for women - at least not shown any differently from anything the male Saiyans have gone through.

I wish western content would take a few queues from that last part you mentioned. Far too often is a woman or a girl given motivation for acting a certain way due to their gender/gender stereotypes, rather than because of universally human reasons. It bugs me to no end… especially when the writers have the balls to call it 'feminist writing' for having a woman as a main character in the first place! Same happen to black people in media. Written with their race being the reason for their actions, or the reason they behave a certain way, instead of it just being another aspect of the character. Ghostbusters 2016 being perhaps the worst offender on both counts...
-
A colour-laden beam-off never looked so cool.
It's nice to see that we get updates on our U7 fighters everytime. I noticed they are holding back on Vegeta for a while now though, compared to Goku, who gets all the focus.
-

Cocotte is a kind of cooking pot in french.
-
Anyone surprised by 18 performance so far?
-
Caulifla and Kale are awful. I just wanted to see the Androids do cool stuff, but nope, it's apparently more important that we get to watch Kale's "waa I'm useless but I'm so gay for Caulifla so I'll power-up" routine for the second time. Her character got stale before the Tournament even started, and she doesn't even become a mindless rage monster anymore, so now she's just annoying.
Third time. I hated it as well.
-
That's a nice chart. Better than the notes I have on my phone haha.
-
Yah, the chart is perfect, the final scoring is very arbitrary, but the rest is so cool that it doesn't matter.
And I'm happy with 18 getting down to business, I hope she takes down a big target.
You did it or you found it? Maybe changing the Xs over their faces to changing the coloring of the square to not obscure them would improve it.
-
Another great episode. Kale is a wonderful character, who has done more than Broly ever did.
I love Caulifa's spunk, and the Justice Warriors are fun as well. Good to see Toei is giving the other characters a few moments.
-
I just wish Jiren's role could have been given to Toppo
Justice Grandpa is a much more likeable and fun character than Jiren so far -
Was Cauli's beam attack with 1 arm supposed to be a throwback to Gohan vs Cell btw?
-
Team Kahseral was just too much eye candy for me, loved it. It's almost like I went back to the days of the Ginyu Force. Then there's Kale, the better Broly. Her character development really took me back to Gohan and actually reminded me on why I liked him in the first place. The two Saiyan girls are now added to my favorite DB characters list.
Overall, good episode.

Also, was I the only one who expected an "OH MY GOD!" from Kahseral?

I liked Kale's transformation to SSJ. Done withe right amount of emotion and the relation between the 2 girls really sell it.
I don't like the Troopers not managing to do anything. Their strategies were pleasant enough but they failed to escape and they failed at getting rid of the girls. Even the one in the bubble got thrown away.
I appreciate Toppo and Jiren saving energy. I really hope Goku's constant wasting will have consequences.
Jiren better be mute.
-

While I agree that Toppo should be the most important character in his universe, I object to this on the grounds that it suggests that Jiren even has a personality to begin with.

I think Jiren gave one line in a previous episode.
Part of me just wanted him to not understand whatever language Goku was speaking lol.

That's a shame
Part of me just wanted him to not understand whatever language Goku was speaking lol.
Now that would have been funny. Have Goku give one of monologue about fighting only for Toppo to tell him he doesn't speak human.

Coccote withstood Caulifla/Kale combo attack, that was impressive, her getting tossing out by 18 seemed a bit like a gag.

18 doesn't have time for any gimmicky bullshit
invincible orbs ain't shit -
The latest episode was really entertaining. As more participants drop I am expecting the quality of each fight to rise.
I wish Krillin had been disqualified while fighting not by surprise, I hope that Roshi gets some more time to shine. The fight against the pride troopers was filled with comedy, good action and I am quite happy to see Kale controlling her transformation. Not sure if their final attack was meant to ressemble Gohan vs Cell, when I saw the comments, I thought Kaulifa had done it by herself with one arm.
-
18 doesn't have time for any gimmicky bullshit
invincible orbs ain't shitShe's definitely the MVP of this arc.
I really hope somebody tries to stalk her or 17 with the intention of letting them waste all of their energy on fighting other people before attacking. I really hope it's Universe 3 because I want to see their gods' reactions to a mere mortal creating something capable of producing infinite energy.

Via Herms' twitter, a certain lineup has been fully unveiled:

That makes all the sense of the world, and it fits with the movie villain theme.

Hmm. Do their names have any meaning?

! Ah yes, perfect opponents for Piccolo to fight.
He should totally absorb them
! I'd be nice if Piccolo actually could some kind of power-up or development from meeting them though. Maybe the U6 Namekians have a form or technique that Piccolo could copy, similar to how the U6 Saiyans didn't know about Super Saiyan until Cabba saw it at the Tournament. -

There's also spoilers for episode 103 and 104:
! 103 is a Gohan-centric episode and 104 has a Goku and Hit team-up.
DBZ Rewatch: the Bardock special. I'll probably be getting to the movies in general, too.
I loved this when I first saw it and it's all because of Bardock's last words. He's interesting to begin with because he's just a regular Saiyan, the conquering planets thing and all. Bardock and his group weren't "good guys". They simply acted according to their nature and it just went along perfectly with what Freeza wanted. The Saiyans got their karmic punishment, basically, but it has a more human tint because it was their nature that did them in, which is what make his last words so powerful - everyone has the right to choose their own fate. Freeza is evil because he took enjoyment out of genocide, even if it was "technically" taking out another evil.
Oh and, the pacing was really bad. I didn't remember that part, but should've, probably because the key points made for a good story.
This is also probably one of the more complex stories to come out of Dragon Ball.

New ep! That was fun. I love the different fighting styles of the magical girls, but more importantly the jokes. It was clearly to also pad the episode, but the punchline for the transformation made me grin and then Toppo jumped in, too. He grew on me for that. Also, the androids have been on a roll.
-
! I like Universe 2. Hopefully they get good voices actors when the dub occurs–I can see some good performances being pulled out of these silly characters.
! Also, it's been 9 minutes according to the ending. I get the feeling this isn't going to end on a time limit, at the rate we're losing people.
! Standing. on. light. That's all that needs to be said about that... -
Too bad for U6, they might get their first member eliminated next week..(Botamo).
-
I feel like Universe 7 would be better off if Shin and Beerus were killed and replaced with Piccolo and Android 17.
-
This scene made me chuckle, good thing Vegeta retreated..
-
So the Universe 6 guys just keep not being eliminated, I'm starting to think it's going to be Universe 6, Jiren, Toppo and Universe 7 soon, unless we just get an episode and a bunch of them get eliminated, I though Roshi was going to get eliminated this week.
-
I'll admit, I was skeptical of everyone's enthusiasm with Android 17's return, but he and 18 are so awesome. Their presentation and involvement are just great. Good stuff.
-
17 tied up with Cabba and Frieza in points.
-
The whole transformation + 17 + Toppo part was so fun! They actually managed to reuse a damn lot of scenes while making it look like a good joke instead of just saving resources.
Btw, before Super, 17 was just another cool looking edgy guy in my eyes, but since he appeared in Super he just keeps getting better and better with each scene. After that I have to admit I was a bit annoyed by love this love that all the time (at the same, I can't stop loving how Beerus is always voicing my opinions), but still was an enjoyable episode. Good thing Ribrianne (and surprisingly enough, another of the magical girls) survived the U2 focused episode, so she will not be just the monster of the week.
I just hope we could see the other universes fighters being more competent when it comes to eliminations. Except for Basil back on the first episode and Ribrianne now, every single elimination was accomplished by either U6 or U7. You would expect at least U11 to be getting some points in this area.
-
Now I am so glad#17 and #18 are in the tournament. They're combined coolness and smugness is just so enterteining.
-
The bit with 17 stopping the transformation was funny. I expected it to be Freezer since they for some reason keep acting as if it is a normal tournament but 17 toal lack of understanding of being scolded for attacking an open opponent was funny. And they restarted from the top. And Toppo came to their defense. A fairly funny opening.
I have Zero idea why U7 suddenly decided they should split.
I appreciate that U2 actually seems to know how to have personal fight while helping each other.
Like a random spectator of the Cell game would say : You know what? Fuck Goku
Jiren continue to try to hard at being badass.
Brianne is so happy I cannot not enjoy her.
The universes really suck at producing result. So little elimination from the unknown universes even at this point?
-
I have Zero idea why U7 suddenly decided they should split.
It makes no sense. Especially when they lost no one in this group until now. I facepalmed hard, but I guess we need some plotinduced stupidity (and privacy) to create funny situations and new stunning encounters (like Piccolo and the Namekians).
I expected Freezer too. Interruping a transformation makes sense for an Android though, considering Cell. But I somehow doubt the creators thought of that in this case.
-
Funny thing, I thought having U7 split up was weird, then I saw a Masakox review. He suggested that they split up because the arena changed, since their grouping plan was based on a flat arena with maximum vision. Now that that's gone, they suggested to split up. I think that makes sense.
-
Hm ok, with this and the possibility that the big wigs have fewer jobbers now and maybe, just maybe, can wipe out the whole group in one go, I'll go with it.
