None of those attacks looked like they did much though.
-
Smoothie still useless AF.
-
Damn Pudding seemed jealous of Nami. Also Judge seems to be in deep thought. Maybe he has a plan or some special technology to get them out of this.
-
That sound you heard, reminding you of a waterfall, was the simualtenous ecstasy of all Sanji-Nami shippers.
-
Smoothie's relegated to chasing down the Weakling Trio. I totally didn't predict that a few chapter threads ago.
…Why does Katakuri need a trident? This guy already has foresight Haki, a Mochi Logia, and jellybean sniping under his belt. I was cool with all of that, but why add another weapon on top of that lol? I only talk about this now even though we've seen him pull out some sort of staff in earlier chapters because I don't remember ever getting a full visual on whether it was a bo-staff or some sort of spear-esque weapon.
-
Hmm, nothing worth to comment D: It was like a Thriller Bark chapter, made more from Oda to Oda than to readers worldwide.

Same, nothing really note worthy.

Same, nothing really note worthy.
Pretty much. But I will give Oda credit for both that gorgeous Vinsmoke thread (I swear, Ichiji looks like he's making Chidori or something) and the visual storytelling with minimal dialogue for the past few chapters due to Big Mom's screaming.
-
1.so the germa 66 did survive yoo….cant wait to see in anime how they 'SUIT UP'...maybe there is 1 for sanji
2.bege body seems like a temporary war room to plan....bege maybe lost half life or survive with some pain....
3. They seem can hold BM minion if combine with Germa...except big mom -
-
Did Du Feld fall with the Tamatebako Box? It looks like he did. And he has to be alive for obvious reasons. I wonder how it will come into play more than ever now.
-
Really enjoyed the chapter!
The Germa 66 spread totally stole the show for me, and that's fine. A homage with flair. Enjoyed Bege already getting damaged, and Big Mom's already coming for them, banging on them! Oh, and the Tamatebako, which a lot of people were banking on, is out of the picture for now.
Really all I'd like is for, yeah, Smoothie to do more. Other than that I was perfectly satisfied.
-
I still cant see pedro…
-
I liked the chapter, it was nice. The silence and mean look from Sanji to the Vinsmokes continuing in him smiling when catching Nami was golden.
-
I still cant see pedro…
He is to the left of Luffy in this page. But he is strangely looking forward instead of running to the castle with the others.
!
-
Dogtooth continue to be the truly competent member of the crew. After allowing the crew to act, he cuts the road back to an escape by rescuing an ally and he makes sure that the cannons cannot be fired at his mama. Candyman is kind of useful but his blunter with the Vinsmokes was just to big.
That transformation of the Vinsmoke was visually interesting. It reminded me of Sailer moon with a dash of power rangers.
Smoothie can use her fruit on herself. With some luck she'll get to fight Poison lady rather than Nami. Or she won't fight anyone at all. She was lucky to get used among the second strings of the crew while her big brothers were doing important stuffs.
Logically speaking Capone castle should be destroyed pretty fast. Or at least he should be crippled pretty much instantly but of course that is not going to happen.
Weirdly I think both the cover story and the main story has left me without any interest in the next one unlike last week's chapter.

@Count:

From the page he seems much worried about the box getting out of his grasp rather than falling. So even if they both fell I suppose they will be a certain distance between them. Maybe Pekoms will get the box or something like that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Considering the way of presenting talking in the first pages I would have found it interesting if the first 8-9 pages had no word at all.
-
Luffy needs to step outside next chapter and tell BM to get the fudge off Bege
-
Nice chapter all in all.
I too am curious about the tamatebako plot, as i thought that Big Mom would seek solace in opening it thus leading to one of her deadly tantrums.Maybe the plot moves from the roof to all of Totland if Big Mom proceeds to recover it.
3 more details-questions.
1. Could the memory shape armors of the Germa be in anyway relevant to Wapometal, as also mentioned by Franky?Maybe a good transation will help.
2. I am curious about the fire-haired dude's abilites. Is it a fire ball devil fruit, is its something else? Up until know i thought that his appearance resembled a tree but maybe he is literally on fire.
3. This is the first regular chapter i think that has 18 pages instead of 16 after chapter 74..something.Just a minor detail.

So Sanji was not concentrated / into it while fighting Daifuku as it seems.
Now Yonji who was hinted to being one-shotted by Sanji has pushed Daifuku into the ground for a moment.
Well.. If Germa got their entrance that good than Sanjis finale fight in this arc should be sweet.

Because he is Mad Max. He HAS to have more weapons on him than the number of bones in his body. Guy's gotta reputation to hold
That aside, I find the chapter a little underwhelming. Stuff is happening so fast that the choregraphy for everything is vague at best - there's more tell than show in there ; the Germa side is especially bad, everyone apparently waits for them to suit up with guns cocked and mouths gaping (eventhough the magical girl-like transformation was a nice touch). Bege's castle becoming suddenly neutralized could have deserved at least a panel of the commanders doing something instead of an after-the-fact comment.
The way Big Mom is handled feels rather poor as well ; in the span of a few seconds (minutes ?), she went from food-frenzy to doesn't-know-what-to-be-more-pissed-at to blacked-out-banshee to regained-her-senses without anyone doing anything that would believably remotely justify these mood swings.
As for what comes next, I'm curious to see how whatever saves the Straw Hats will not feel like a gigantic asspull given the current turn of events. I understand the situation is meant to be chaotic, but we're really rolling from one extreme to the other in this arc - extremely convenient to extremely messed up ; I'm not sure I will enjoy the ride in the end.
-

Above all else, he is Guts from Berserk. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is more priceless than seeing Guts be the jellybean sniper of a fairytale/food-themed crew.

Are you absolutely sure you don't mean the opposite? I found there to be way more show than tell in the action sequences. Because the Germa 'announced' their attack names or? If I'm misunderstanding, then you meant in the chapter there's more tell than show? Even there I'd disagree. The things that were 'told' I feel could not have been really conveyed through action alone, like for example Bege explaining that once the castle goes down, he dies.

Pandamaaaaaan!

So Sanji was not concentrated / into it while fighting Daifuku as it seems.
We have nothing but quick hits from each parties so nothing to judge. Yonji getting a hit is as conclusive as Genie dude getting a hit on Sanji.
-
I really enjoyed the chapter.
But you can tell Oda is trying to wrap this up as fast as he can.
-
pudding is gonna save everyone and overwrite big mom's and everyone's memory so that big mom doesn't get revenge against any of the strawhats' families..she is the reset button that is ready to be redeemed:getlost:
at this point why the hell make her a bad guy in the first place, that revelation by itself opened a shitton of plotholes:wassat:
-
I really enjoyed the chapter.
But you can tell Oda is trying to wrap this up as fast as he can.
I got the opposite impression from this chapter, honestly. If he was rushing this, I think he would have had everybody instantly escape into the castle and hatch a new plan by the last third of the chapter.
-
I really enjoyed the chapter.
But you can tell Oda is trying to wrap this up as fast as he can.
Yes. And you can see people complaining that nothing really happened this week nonetheless ;-)
-
I did like the chapter. These weren't fights, these were hit-n-runs, so saying "x did nothing" or "y barely did any damage" is not what we're supposed to be doing. They barely released Nami and co. with a hit and then ran for it, none of the Big Mom siblings seem to be in any pain of any kind.
That aside, it was frantic enough for me. The Super Sentai thingie was the only thing left that could save the Vinsmokes from being a total bore, and well, visually it was very cool, so there's that!
With the Tamatebako being thrown out of the roof, I'm wondering if this place is where the climax will start AND finish. It seems that only the family members + the vips are in there. I don't think Amande or Tamago are there, and at least the Baron should reappear before they leave the island, right? And Pekoms, right?
Which, in turn, also makes me wonder what are Oda's plans with Pekoms. Oda implied not once, but twice during the end of the Zou arc that Pedro was the only one to keep Pekoms in check, or something along those lines. That hasn't come into play at all so far. Pekoms was snatched away by Bege pretty damn early in the game, and so far he hasn't shown what it is that Pedro should control that no one else could. He's currently tied up in a beach, but is that where he's gonna stay till all this is over? Like Tamago? Or are they gonna join the fray? Or will the Strawhats and co escape SOMEHOW and end up encountering the non-family members as they make their escape? Or the Tamatebako (+ or sans the guy that tried to open and who we don't know if he fell or not) will fall near Pekoms/Tamago/whoever and thus come into play like that?
Pretty exciting situation, honestly.
Edit: Also, kudos to Big Mom for switching to bare fists for a moment. That looked brutal enough.
-
Are you absolutely sure you don't mean the opposite? I found there to be way more show than tell in the action sequences.
Specifically, I was thinking of how Katakuri instantly neutralizes every cannon in the castle and we only find out after the fact and then how Perospero swamps it in candy off-panel. On the Germa side, I would be more precise in saying that events, while shown indeed, are vaguely described nonetheless and with a timing that stretches my suspension of disbelief to its limit. The Charlotte siblings could have shot them dead a dozen times since the wedding started yet not a single bullet flew until they were fully geared. And when they do start acting, we just see a kick here and a punch there that free the weakling trio as easily as they were caught, without really showing how it happened. I understand it's meant to be a hit-and-run sequence, but it feels more like a collection of instant snapshots rather than a fluid motion.
-
I like that, for once, the SH are not the one assaulting a place, but the one being assaulted…
-
…..Luffy's gunna fight Big Mom to save Bege's hide huh? Aw man, he's gunna get wrecked he'd probably die if it weren't for plot armor.
-
This was a fast-paced action spectacle.
I´ve been waiting for one of these. Hope it doesn´t abruptly stop and we get just "talk" next time.
@Melker:Luffy needs to step outside next chapter and tell BM to get the fudge off Bege
This, but King Kong Gun-level entry. He´d most likely die, but it would be glorious.
-

it's not supposed to be a fluid action sequence..much like marineford is supposed to be a series of snapshots of chaos and hit and runs.
alsom, there's enough explained anyway through visuals or through the end result..like smoothie having to let go of nami because she has to free herself from reiju's poison
-
Man this Manga seems to have ground to a crawl recently. It feels like less and less happens every chapter. I miss the Enies lobby arc.

What i liked about chapter 869:
-The Germa - Full Power spread was eye-candy. Reminded me of classic superhero entrance scenes, also i really liked the Font used to "Germa 66". Flashy stuff.
-Sanji gets a kinda badass moment catching Nami. It is his expression that totally makes it badass and it completely adds to the "mr.prince" theme.
-Bege's character is just getting better and better. The guy frickin' knows what he's doing and where he stands. He is not goin' about "this castle has never been destroyed" and such like most would brag about, also he knows in how deep shit they are and he tries to figure out something. Also him kinda protecting all his allies with his life kinda of gives me pirate-honour impression although he just turned on his former Captain.
-Katakuri. All about this guy.
Things i did not like : -Big Mom's crew has been mistreated in my opinion. I am still kind of waiting for most of the members to turn up. By all means this is a Yonko crew. One of the 4 strongest crews in the world. Not only they fucked up their communication and defence in their own territory in the beggining of the arc but pretty much EVERYONE except Katakuri doesn't even feel dangerous to me as a reader. To be honest i think a Yonkou top3 commander should be able to deal with most people over there by himself.
-Chapter could have gone without any dialogue and it would still awesome-different and would actually give us anxiety.
-Cover Story did nothing for me.
-

Definitely. At the end of the day you still understand what happened ; nevertheless, it's not the most enjoyable I've seen in One Piece. For what it's worth, I didn't like Marine Ford very much for that same reason.

Wapometal is made by wapol this is germa science

I understand, but much like marineford,if oda tried to make everything follow a fluid sequence without those cuts,we would have had half of what happened in this chapter and people would complain about that..much like in marineford
if anything oda's problem has always been trying to juggle too much characters at once…even only counting the big shots, the protagonists and their allies we have probably aroun 20 characters that have to find some space in a 16/18 page chapter.
i think the main problem here is timing..oda wanted to show the sentai transformation so much that he missed the chance to let them transform immediately off screen, thus making that timing discrepancy where germa and the big mom pirates just stand there without doing nothing while everything else happened..and while we are still talking about seconds, it's still enough time to pull the trigger

Not going down from one hit is not the same as not being in pain. Pero´s face is partly smashed in, and Smoothie pretty much only survived due to her ability, meaning the poison is incredibly dangerous.
-
Awesome chapter.
I like that the Vinsmokes got to show off their skills without lasting detriment to the Big Mom Pirates.
That split panel of human/castle Bege looked great.
We've got some real tension building now with the way this chapter ended too, really looking forward to the next chapter.
I feel like Pudding will play a pivotal role in the SH's escaping, but I'm not sure how.
Temporary memory wipe of the Big Mom Pirates or something along those lines?
That little half panel of Pudding gasping as Sanji caught Nami could be very important.
-

poison is dangerous for pretty much anyone in the onepiece universe with few exceptions….that's why magellan was so goddamn scary
even akainu would probably be in trouble if poisoned -
That transformation with the Vinsmokes was so cool, reminded me of something out of Voltron or Power Rangers. FYI the old power rangers not this new crap
-
This is the first time in a long time we got 19 pages without having a colour spread. I hope Oda's able to keep that up for at least a little while.
Call me dumb, but is that meant to be someone we know trying to set fire to the Vinsmokes in that first spread of theirs, in the panels on the right, or is it an entirely new Big Mom Pirate? Regardless, that's a hell of a spread. It's gonna look great in a few years when the colour version catches up to here.
