One Piece "Marine Supernova Arc" begins March 19th

-
Finally. Non-canon anime comes.
-
I'll gladly welcome this filler if it means having Whole Cake Island run at the nice pace it has been in the manga.
-
Huh, let's see how it goes.

That won't happen unless this is a long filler arc. I hope it is, but the track record of every filler arc since Spa Island has been 3-4 episodes, then back to canon.
Although, this will put them at least 35 chapters or more behind the manga for the first time in a long while, I think.
-
Awesome! I hope it lasts ages

I mean at this point with One Piece there's going to be the struggle of pacing when they want to stick to a chapter-to-episode ratio like they've been doing for years. Luckily Whole Cake Island does have plenty of moments perfect for implied filler stuff, mainly with some of the fights and traveling. But I hope they expand on that stuff rather than drawing out characters reacting to things, or continuing an "eh" at most gag until it's completely unfunny.
-
Uh, fun!
Hopefully it's good!
-
Thank you for the pic!
Here is my translation.
-
Luffy and Co. run out of food on the way to bring back Sanji. They decide to sneak into forefront Marine base to steal food.
-
The name of the Marines (left to right):
Grant (VA: Natsuki Hanae)
Bonam (VA: Hiroki Yasumoto)
Zappa (not Sappa) (VA: Makoto Furukawa)
Vice-Admiral Prody (VA: Youhei Tadano) -
Grant strongly believes in justice. He has unfathomed power.
-
Bonam is Longarm tribe. He can change his body form flexibly.
-
Zappa has two swords. He is a shy person. He loves women.
-
Vice Admiral Prody is responsible for the Marine base in "Fron Island".
He has been a friend with Garp for a long time. -
All 3 young Marines were subordinates under Aokiji.
-
Editor blurb: Why does Luffy wear Marine's "Justice" jacket!?
-
-
Grant looks like a bad OC, but if this is anything like G8 it should be pretty entertaining.
-
I like how the main villain's names are so plain now. First Bill, now Grant…
-

It looks really like the G8 Arc, which containts 11 episodes. I doubt that "Marine Supernova Arc" will have 11 episode. Unless toei suprises us.
-
At least the plot works! I think one of the reasons they like keeping this mini-arcs at 4 episodes is that they can fit it all on one DVD, it would be nice if it was longer than that.
-
This sounds like it's going to be a shorter, more action-packed, probably not as smartly written G8 arc. We'll see. I do like the implication with the title though that the Navy has rising stars among their ranks just like pirates do, an angle I've always felt should be more present in the manga.

Ha. Good to see they're not making a "Jonathan was Akainu's protege" type of mistake again.

Oh, I forgot about that. I wonder why.
somebody draw Jonathan magmafisting Condoriano or something -
@trio:
Sanji's VA posted a tweet with a picture of his script (?) for Episode 783.
Maybe this arc only have 4 episodes, or they just put Sanji's scene in the middle of this arc.The latter is unlikely. Hirata seems excited about it, as if referring to the beginning of his arc.
I'm pretty sure that means either that the filler ends on 783 and we see Sanji in the end for a cliffhanger, or the filler arc has only 3 episodes like the one before Dressrosa. -
I'm guessing we'll see a new opening in April, once this mini-arc finishes and cake kicks off. Doesn't make sense keeping the current one for much longer.
-
So Luffy is going all fake-Navy to infiltrate the base? Cute. I mean Robin did that already like 14 years ago but cute lol. I'd also hope the filler arc would last longer but we just wont get anything longer than 4 episodes anymore.
Maybe they'll put the Sanji + Pudding poster cliffhanger from 824 at the end of the arc.
-
So a shorter G-8 arc but with more combatant marines? Interesting.
Although, it seems weird to create a main visual for such a short arc, unless it's longer than we expect.

Yeah, you ar right. Its really weird for such a short arc.
-
Whether this arc is legendary or god aweful I'm fully embracing this filler with open arms and praying to God Eneru that the Whole Cake Island arc will have semi-decent pacing. They really need to make this filler arc at least 10 episodes or so, around the length of the G8 Arc.
What's best about this in my opinion is that this filler is not forced to promote an upcoming movie for the first time in ages, meaning the villain of the arc can potentially not be as terrible as that last Silvers guy we had. Also, having Carrot and Pedro around will be a bit of fun as well.
-
Well there was that filler before Dressrossa with Breed, but that was kinda eh outside of a couple moments. Though part of that was due to severely limiting the cast.
I wonder if they'll be giving Pedro and Carrot eyecatches like Law and Bartolomeo got during Silver Mine?
-
So, A G8-ish filler arc but possibly a lot shorter. If I try to compare this to G8, I'll probably end up disappointed. So I'll look at the arc separate from it. Hopefully it's good, and maybe they'll be able to make Carrot and Pedro shine.
-
Hope there'll be few episodes…

inb4 luffy goes gear 4th on some marines

One Piece Episode 780 Preview (Marine Supernova Arc - March 19th)

Would have liked this filler idea even more, when those guys would be bounty hunters.
-
@Don:

The last filler arc was about bounty hunters…
-
Mohawk guys got that Zepher arm going on.
-
He seems a little like Ace if he had joined the Navy but maybe that's just my first impression. Could at least make for an interesting dynamic with Luffy.
-
If you gave that mowhawk guy green hair he would look a heck of a lot like Zoro.
-
Oda sure loves his cybernetic arms.
I believe this is the third character with such a feature (Zephyr, Kid and this guy).
Though it might just be a strength-augmenting device over the arm for Grant and not a prosthetic limb like the other two.
Well, to be honest, I like designs for this filler arc.
Here's hoping they don't suck!
-
Huh, the guy with the heart eyes has the same seiyuu as Saitama.
I also noticed in the preview that Brook is wearing the justice coat like an actual coat. I think this is the first instance of someone doing so.

I'm pretty sure Oda didn't create Grant.

If it counts, Drake from G-8 wore it like that as well.
!

Come to think of it, John Giant does too…
I should rewatch G8 sometime...
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Might as well repost what I put in the animation thread:
There's an entry for it on the anime's official site (the podcast's site has a write-up/summary of it here). Tatsuya Nagamine, Satoshi Ito, and Toshinori Fukazawa are the three directors attached to this, and given that there are only three screenwriters listed as well, we're most likely looking at another three-part filler arc instead of something longer, unfortunately. On the plus side though, those three directors are the show's better ones and they apparently consulted with Oda on the story, so there's hope yet that the quality won't take a dive like the others. We'll see how things shake out for sure when the upcoming titles and staff listings leak in another day or two.
-
I think these are just the episode directors for the three episodes of the arc rather than the series directors for the arc
-
@Kaido:

To be fair, so is Jack.
-
Keep in mind that from the perspective of an eastern culture such western names are sometimes more alluring and appealing, just like how foreign names are sometimes more appealing for western audiences. Think of it as going for something different from the norm in your culture.

The arc will start from #780 to #782

Three episode filler? Yep, that'll create a nice buffer.
Though admittedly Toei has been splitting up recent episodes and adding more filler so it'll be a bit more than that.
-
I hope Chopper and Brook get a good fight.
-
Nami looks so odd what the hell….
-
Three episode filler, again? Eh, whatareyagonnado. By the way, is it just me that I find it odd for Brook to wear the Marine "Justice" coat like an ACTUAL coat? What a weirdo.:ninja:
-
I like how Nami, Carrot, and Chopper all at least try to put some sort of effort into their marine disguises (with the obvious cavaet of naturally being unable to do much about their not-being-human status) while just throws the coat over his shoulders and otherwise gives no fucks.
-
Don't you guys ever dream that one day Toei makes a fan-fic world-wide competition and winner gets his fan-fic to be a filler arc??
cause I do, every night. besides, I do feel like a random fan can come up with a better story than Toei's usual garbage. -
-
Why is it that I'm digging that the Longarm guy? He just looks awesome.
