@Insider2000:
Kind of hoping they decide to go a kind of 'Wind Waker' type deal with XVI. Lay back on the graphics and just try to make a good game.
The ending? It's an entertaining idea. Could make for a fantastic ending if, and only if, the story develops to enough for us to care about Noctis, Luna, and his three buddies. If they do, it could be a great ending! And visually, it's quite beautiful. But I feel like I need to play through the whole game for the ending and the relationship between characters to have greater meaning.
If I can say a spoiler without giving the entire ending away…
[hide]The way the final boss and ending is set up reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy II, only with a more 'realistic' method of reaching the final boss.
I'm sure someone is gonna be like 'Oh, but Final Fantasy II is shit', but I say this previous comment as someone who likes Final Fantasy II.[/hide]
I can't speak for other people but as someone who watched the livestream from chapter 10 to chapter 15 yesterday, lot of the scenes were really emotionally impactful especially the ending with some-context . And this is coming from a guy who spend lot of time bashing this game as the release-date as got-closer. I didn't think Tabata can pull it off, but the second half of the game is just really great, and it benefits from the slow build up of the first-half where you bond with these character before the stakes are raised. Even Prompto , who i found extremely annoying, becomes more likeable.

I can't shake the feeling that Versus XIII looked better than this.
I would agree, but remember that versus 13 was only a concept when the trailers came out so nothing in terms of the story, characters, settings etc… were finalised or even decided on.
Both Nomura, and SE really fucked up with releasing versus 13 trailers earlier when the nothing about the game was properly planned out.
Hell the boy-band-trip( which many people here hate including me), the inclusion of guns, the really large-open-world, large scale-battles etc.... were all Nomura's idea for versus 13.

@DarthAsthma:
I wonder when we can have good characters again in FF. Don't get the praise about the characters from what I could gather.
Well I do get it cause most hyped games start more positive unless their unplayable shit shows. But the stuff FF15 gets praised for I feel like wait? How is that special in 2016? When poked people that are high on it have made concessions along the lines "yeah character banter is not as good as Bioware", "character dynamics might not be as interesting, but but the friendship between the guys is really good", "yeah characters don't really have arcs", etc etc.
I was hopeful after the Judgement demo(which just was so much better than platinum and generally every showing after the 2013 rereveal) but seems like story/character wise this is a dud, at best super vanilla stuff.
Too bad I was super hoping this to be the FF that brings me back but I don't think it will.
That said I don't doubt that it's going to turn out to be at least a fun game mechanics wise to some.
From what I played I can at least certainly can understand the appeal it's super flashy combat has.
And that's I guess an improvement over XIII :-x
The story is simple yes but i don't necessarily see how that's bad.
I would advertised that you play the game yourself with open-mind, and not let the general consensus influence your opinion. IT doesn't have too many cutscenes nor they are extremely long. It seems to me like it follows a bit of Souls/borne style of story where the cutscenes provides crucial puzzle-pieces, and the open-world will provide smaller pieces to fully complete the puzzle.
Right now majority of the people are guting for this game to fail along with almost every livestreamer just rushing through the game, and people seeing some plot points without any context is pushing them to hate it even further.

@Robby:
Hint: When a game takes ten years to make, it's going to have problems. You can figure that out by year 3 of the development hell.
Hard to believe they used to crank out a FF game every year or two and they were mostly good.
It didn't necessarily take them 10 years to complete 15. Versus 13 was still a loose-concept until 2010 or 11 where the development truly began, and when the game was changed from versus 13 to 15 with Tabata being brought up as the director soon after.
