It could be fun if Bobbin can turn into something way bigger so his sword is more fitting. Handle of his sword is made for way bigger person that he is shown to be.
Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
-
-
I've supported this theory for a while. While I definitely think the main reason he sought out the Dark Dark Fruit was for the process of how he gains new Fruit abilities(I think his body lets him have more than one, the darkness lets him "absorb" the power like how Smiley's fruit was "absorbed" into the apple), I also think the fact that he made it such a point to Ace on how he can negate a fruit because he can't use Armament Haki.
The problem is his men seem to be able to steal devil fruits as well.
Besides, Yami Yami is a much better tool to dealing with devil fruits than Haki. Haki can't negate anything, just hurt devil fruit users no matter their defensive ability. When he touches someone, they can't use their ability at all.
From 2 times he had commented on Luffy's Haki it seems he can at least sense it. So I doubt he's naturally unable to use it or naturally limited to Observation or something.
-
The problem is his men seem to be able to steal devil fruits as well.
He didn't say that the Yami Yami was the thing that stole the fruits, he said that the Yami Yami lets him absorb their powers, i.e. what he did with the Gura Gura. "Stealing" the fruits, which his underlings do as well, might well entail killing the person and having a fruit near - which anyone can do. But Blackbeard is the only one who can absorb them, possibly with his Yami Yami ability.

How do you know his method of stealing is different from method used by his underlings? He covered himself and WB with a blanket while stealing his devil fruit. Maybe there's a reason why he did it? So nobody can repeat the process after seeing it, for example.
The absorbing part was meant to be taken more like it's a temporary thing. Yami Yami absorbs the ability (wonder if that translation is 100% accurate) until BB releases the hold on the ability's user. Like some sponge that takes everything in but gives it back after contact is released. "Absorb" doesn't have to mean "he can actually steal the ability and use it".
-
There was that theory that Burgess had a bunch of random fruits in that sack of his. If Devil Fruits reincarnate as we were shown on Punk Hazard that might be how the crew "steals" fruits, they kill the fruit user and hopefully the fruit reincarnates into one of the fruits he brought.
But even then, while we know that BB is making his crew stronger by collected powers, we don't know if the Crew themselves are even getting them. BB might be able to "absorb" the power into his darkness and "give" it to his crew later, or he absorbed like every fruit he could into his darkness and when he absorbs the power it reincarnates. There's a ton we don't know about his weird situation, but we do know that he waiting specifically for this one fruit before doing anything else in his plan, and specifically commented on how it could neutralize DF abilities.

But didn't Burgess want the Mera Mera and Gomu Gomu for himself specifically on separate occasions? I think it's fair to say that the crew members are getting some of the Devil Fruits they've hunted down.

Taking a fight with Big Mum and her allies is impossible to win, it would atleast require crew & straw hat alliance to have a chance. Fleeing is impossible due to the handcuffs and the threat of the Big Mum alliance attacking innocents like Jeff and his Baratie. So how will the Straw Hats get out of this situation?
Capone shot Pekoms when he wanted to let the Straw Hats go, i think this had nothing to do with him being loyal to Big Mum: he has to make sure the wedding takes place for HIS plan to take down Big Mum. Remember what Pekoms said to Capone: Dont underestimate Big Mum or it will be your demise.
Maybe hes allied with even more rookies… i see a huge sneak attack with thousands of soldiers coming from Capone at the wedding. -
I could even see Capone having already a deal with the Vinsmokes.
Afterall we saw them working for the highest bidder and as Tamago said way back on FI, BM is short on money^^
So Capone and the Vinsmoke turn around the wedding and create a blood bath with the BM family.
Being inspired of GoT is no shame ^^ -
I didn't found it on the last couple of pages, therefore my question, am I the only one expecting Sanji to soon use his hands in combat?
With his oldest brother now introduced as kick ass, after his dad just kicked his ass, his father talking about Sanjis sword training, flashbacks of Jeffs "do not use your hands" rule and this "you better risk your hands" handcuffs.
There has been a lot of talk and topic about Sanji "requiring" a power up, his hands and hand based combat skills. What I could imagine is a kind of knife and kick based fighting style, with never blocking with his hands or knives.
I imagine him as a beast with knifes, which are pretty much the extension of his hand for his entire life. -

I imagine him as a beast with knifes, which are pretty much the extension of his hand for his entire life.Well he is great with knives, as shown with Wanze. But unless his brothers manipulate food, no.
If all else, this arc is when he completely sets himself apart from his family, and him using hands would directly conflict with that.

Either the vin smokes the SH and whoever Capone has take down Big Mom or that Big Mom is not the antagonist of this arc. I said it in a diff thread but I think it would be interesting to see the FI box be used as an engagement present to the Vinsmokes making them think Big Mom is against them and then the SH, trying to free Sanji, defeat the Vinsmokes making Big Mom appreciative of that + the vivre card maybe they can get away from Big Mom at least with a you did this for me so I'll let you go type thing.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also most of the people on this island, with exception to the vin smokes, use food to fight or are somehow related to candy. I think it would be a shame if Sanji didn't have a battle similar to Wanze somewhere in this arc. How this leads to him beating his brothers is unknown to me because I think it would degrade Sanji's character if he started using knives all of a sudden when he said he never would.
-
@Kaido:
If all else, this arc is when he completely sets himself apart from his family
That is pretty much my issue. One piece is a world in which the strongest rule and can keep their beliefs.
If a pirate is beaten,
- he can escape, which does not seem to be an option with his family.
- he has to obey the rules and/or decisions of the victor.
- he gets his will broken and imprisoned….
In my eyes, Sanji has to at least beat his father, to be free and maybe Niji, because there seems to be a lot of tension.
If he would beat Ichiji as well, he might have the option to take command over the germa 66. That would not be in his interest right now. Therefore Sanji requires kind of an instant power up, to be free of his family. Luffy might offer him to fight for him, but this is something Sanji has to do for his own.
Since Sanji is not pictured as strong since the time skip and is now written in an absolute desperate situation, which could break the will of his character and cost his hands.
I can only see three options he either didn't loose to his father, starts to fight dirty or gets a power up.
With all that talk about his hands and that he is trained in using them.
We would just need Namis life on the line for him to not even break character.@Kaido:
and him using hands would directly conflict with that.
I don't see the conflict by using his hands. The hand thing is about cooking. The family issue is in the understanding of how to treat, interact or respect others as well as a not that dirty fighting style.

Being inspired of GoT is no shame ^^**I wonder if Vinsmokes could have had brought together with them CP0.
We had that book about Germa 66 and Marines being deadly enemies - that might hold true but as we seen by Sanjis bounty Germa has at least good relation with World Goverment.
CP0 striking against pirates on order of World Goverment - we almost gotten to it, Yonko Blackbeard escaped after fight with Revos when CP0 came, they had short battle as it seemed.CP0 is extremely formidable group and with their wacky designs(those that we have seen) they would fit into this bizarre arc.**

Plus Vito being amazed by Sanji gives me the impression that he hasn't met the Vinsmokes before.

You're assuming that Sanji has no room left to grow with Black Leg Style, which is completely false. And I don't get what you're saying about him being weak, he's had a very competent record in the New World and only struggled against people who were obviously on another level like Vergo and Doflamingo.
When Sanji was a child, he was forced to learn hand to hand combat and swordsmanship (and was very bad at it), and his brothers oftentimes beat him up with their hands. Is it not obvious why Sanji would turn away from fighting with his hands? He embraced a cook's lifestyle in order to do what he really wanted to do, and which separated him from his family's way of doing things. Him using his hands against his family would only make him just like them, which is the complete opposite of what he wants to do.

@Kaido:

I wouldn't necessarily say that he has been presented as weak, but his track record in the New World has not been very good considering he is one of the Monster Trio. Back in Alabasta he had his Mr Prince shenanigans and beat Mr 2, in Water 7 he got on the train with Robin, closed the Gates of Justice and beat Jyabura, etc. Post-timeskip he's taken out Wadatsumi, but only in a team effort with Jinbe. He held off Vergo but struggled and implied he would have lost if it had continued. Doflamingo called him strong, but dominated him straight after (which is obvious of course, but still, it means that he didn't get to do much). Then there was Sheepshead which may or may not have been very impressive: sure, Sheepshead seemed to be straight below Jack in rank, but we didn't see him do anything so we have no clue what level he was really on. And then Judge, in which he again lost (I don't remember much about the battle, I remember that he did well but I don't remember quite how well).
We know that he is still very strong, but he hasn't exactly made it felt yet. I know that winning isn't everything, but he has yet to beat an impressive opponent post-TS. So far he has been used mainly for when Oda needs someone stronger to do something nobody else can do (like hold off Vergo and Doflamingo), but he hasn't had any proper battles in his own right as Luffy and Zoro get constantly. He needs to start showing something better, and luckily this arc is a great opportunity for that.

Like EvoWarrior5 wrote, he has still to defeat a relevant opponent in the new world. Since he is one of the strongest SH (second/third in command), he should be able to fight other commanders like Vergo, not guys like Sheephead.
Sanji should at least be somewhere around Zorros level, who traded some hits with an admiral without getting seriously hurt, dominated Pika and seems to may be somewhat around Law.
Zorro didn't had a reason to use Asura or any other strong power up yet. He didn't even had a chip on any blade.@Kaido:

If you look at chapter 834, second page. There is a Jeff flashback. In his days as a cooking apprentice, Jeff taught him (with force), that the hands are precious and not for fighting.
That pretty much shows, that not using his hands for fighting has no relation with his family, otherwise he would not have used them willingly at that time.By the way, I'm just wondering why there is so much talk about him not using his hands for fighting, his hand training (incl. sword), him using the hands as apprentice and the additional special hand cuffs.
There might be a better or other explanation for all these references. My issue is, that Sanji needs to beat guys he just lost to, plus one or two other strong guys.

There might be a better or other explanation for all these references.Zeff definitely instilled what Sanji should use his hands for, but given what we know about Sanji's past with his family I highly doubt it's the only reason he uses his legs for fighting. And since Sanji considers Zeff his real father, would he not continue to use his legs in combat against his family instead of using his arms? Doesn't make any sense for Sanji to directly disobey what Zeff instilled in him and went back to the ways of his old despised family.

And he can't do that with Black Leg Style?

Well he sucked fighting with his hands didn't he? thats why his family made fun of him so while maybe he didn't like fighting with his hands cuz it sucked once Zeff taught him to fight with his legs it rang that much more true with him.

He hates his family because they treat their people and others like shit. I do not see a reference or connection to the fighting style, except harming their people in the process.
If he disobeys Jeffs orders, it is just about Jeff not Sanjis family.
@Kaido:
And he can't do that with Black Leg Style?
In OP they usually have a new trick up their selves for the rematch. May be a new kick style or black flames. I do not exclude the option.
I'm just wondering about all the hand related references and since he used knifes against Wanze a food related fighter, i see it as a possibility in a food related arc.
Even though, I do not think he would use kitchen knifes, more like battle knifes or short swords.Well he sucked fighting with his hands didn't he? thats why his family made fun of him so while maybe he didn't like fighting with his hands cuz it sucked once Zeff taught him to fight with his legs it rang that much more true with him.
Why do you think he sucked at fighting with his hands? He was stronger than the Yonji. His brothers even had to hold him for Yonji to land a punch.
Their issue is about "how to treat people" lower as well as higher people. -

It really is about both because Sanji disowned his family, having long considered Zeff his real father. Him disobeying Zeff now would be wildly inappropriate.

Sanji needs to defeat his family using the style he's developed after leaving them. Hell, if he's going to use hands to make stuff easier, he might as well put those leg jet packs, use lightning spears, punch with exploding knuckles or use innocent bystanders as shields.

There's a difference between gaining more skills and acting like a bad guy. But it's true that he should fight them using his normal technique. After resisting them as kid, giving up on his values now would be greatly disapointing( I already wasn't a fan when he did so with Wanze).
-
Since we're on it. The flashback from few chapters is strange. Who was little Sanji trying to fight against using his hands and how did he hurt his self?

The general assumption is that Sanji was trying to defend himself against his brothers, who picked on him for either cooking for commoners or just cooking in general.

I believe he was using his hands to cook and prepare food, not to fight.

@Bond:

Excatly the semantics I was critiziing Sanji for in that occasion.
He used the knives to deal with Wanze armour and weapons and made him unable to fight. Do you actually believe that he did not fight Wanze when he was using the knives or are justifying his behavior?I'm pretty sure he even call it an exeption to his rule when he picks his knives.

He never actually harmed WANZE though, and it was a specific one-off instance that has never repeated nor seems likely to repeat, so I don't see why it matters. If anything should be troublesome about that scene in hindsight it's that he was willing to compromise with one belief (fighting with his hands) but not another (attacking a woman) within the same arc.
-
Is him not fighting with his hands even that big of a deal?
It seems more like a matter of practicality of not endangering his profession more than an actual moral code like his whole not hitting women thing.
-
I wonder why some people don't want to Sanji to stay character like 'using knife to break Wanze's armor' of 'can't hit women'. In Wanze case, Sanji stated it clearly that he use it because Wanze use food for battle and when Sanji use the knife, he just use it to break Wanze'a armor. And in Kalifa case, I think it cool for him to keep his belief to not hit women even though it makes him unfavorable. Well, though as I hate to admit it, I kind of agree for what nami said about it's really idiot to not hit women even you know it will kill you, but when I think Sanji to hit a woman It would just make me really hate him if it really happen, like what happen in Thriller Bark, even though it's his shadow.
And about current arc, if Sanji fight food related devil fruit user like Cracker, My theory is he will use knife for defense(from food) and use one-shoot kill to defeat them. But for me in this arc, rather Big Mom, I think Strawhat will showdown with Sanji' families.

Wouldn't it be sad if Strawhat "Luffy" would fight Sanji's family for him? If Sanji can no longer fight his own fights, I can't see him as part of the monster trio any more.
Sanji has at least to kick his dads butt.

Nami didn't fight Arlong. A good parallel the arc draws here is that part of Sanji's real family is going to rescue him from his fake family. But don't worry, Sanji will get his chance to shine, even if Luffy is the one who ends up battling Judge.

Yeah but so far Oda has set up an inferiority complex with Sanji, his relation to Judge and the siblings is at least partways physical and combat wise is personal.
With Arlong Nami's big drama was about shouldering a ton of burden on her back while virtually all alone (Nojiko as the lone exception), and the action came down to her having established powerful wonderful friends, friends who destroyed the burden for her.

Also Arlong would probably kill Nami in a fight. I'm not sure the gap between Judge and Sanji is that wide for Luffy to step in.
-
Luffy is busy with BM and her crew so far and it's not easy. Defeating cracker could only be the start, like BM herself shows or sends another commander, more at the same time. Luffy has no time for vinsmokes, talk about the leader.
Sanji wasn't doing too bad with judge, he barely got wounds.
Besides, BM has the key to sanji's cuffs, not judge.
-
In general who's considered the main enemy of this arc? Big Mom seems terrible but the Vinsmokes come off as more evil than her.
-
Hmm, for battle it's difficult to guessing because I see Big Mom as main antagonist, but even when we still can't see Big Mom true power, I just can't imagine how Luffy defeat her and lost in this arc. Hell, even Luffy has difficulty with Cracker. Contrary to that, I see Sanji's families just average strong. Stronger than Hody's group but weaker than Doflamingo. Well, I don't know about Sanji's brother because we don't see much how they fights except people barrier. Still, I can accept that this arc will be Vinsmoke downfall.
-
I'm not even sure Judge is going to be there to fight. Like what if older bros decide he's history and decide to take his place.
Oda might be drawing parallels between Judge and his boys. Emphasizing his old glory via that old portait while showing #1 and #2 as new stars, being welcomed as heroes and stuff.
If that should happen, Reiju and Yonji might take Sanji's side or something.

Possible but all the Vinsmokes are kinda shitty to Sanji. He probably tell them to fuck off.
