Chapter 837: Luffy vs Commander Cracker
-
Read it now:
-
I really wanna see what's going on in the mirror world
-
Hey, it's nice to see some of the Red Hair Pirates again
-
BLEUGH!!!
Hahaha..
Otherwise quite great chapter. Finaly some high caliber fighters going at it.
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Red Hair Pirates cover. So Yassop must be celebrating his son's 200 Million bounty. I wonder which Island they're on? About time we finally saw them…its been so long.
If Luffy is having trouble with his haki, whats gonna be the case for the man that is seemingly invulnerable to any physical harm?
And daaaaam, so Urouge is a beast, he beat 1 of her top 4 commanders. He must have a biiiiig bounty on him...
-
Damn, it really says something that Luffy would need to go all out like that.
-
You were first.
Glad to see Yassop. In "the ruins of a certain island"… so they like exploring, huh? I often forget that Emperors remain real pirates seeking for adventure.
-
As it stands Luffy is hopelessly out classed by Kaido. He's gonna have to push it up a few levels if he's to stand a chance against him/…....
-
Gear 4 is beast. Well I knew it…but now Cracker does too. Boundman hit Cracker far harder than any of his hits.
-
So Luffy praised Cracker CoA as stronger than Rayleigh haki ???
Or is it mistranslation? He said that it is stronger than any CoA haki he ever came across?
-
wtf Urouge. who did train you these 2years ? but does that mean he killed one of BigMom's commanders ? doubt she would kill a subordinate she because he lost…
so gear4 is the new gear2. but have absolutely no idea if he just one-shot Cracker or not. he dropped his strongest attack we know so far and just broke Cracker's haki.
-
DAMN, luffy got rekt pretty hard before using G4, i really liked the exchange there, it looked pretty dinamic, Oda might not like to draw fights as much as other authors, and usually likes to cut it short, but he does a pretty good job when he cares enough to do it
i hope that the fight continues in the next chapter for at least some more pages, pretty good chapter
-
I've read this series for a long time to know where this is heading: Luffy is gonna beat Cracker next chapter. Then, a rebel/splinter group is revealed to be observing the battle. They're gonna help take care of the Brulee problem and try to recruit Luffy and the gang to their cause.
For some reason, Brulee believes that Urouge is still in the woods when we know that he's recuperating in an sky island. Curious.
-

Strongest attack ? Well I would say that KING KONG GUN is many times stronger than Kong Gun.
Also Brulee says that they had 4 commanders but now they have 3 - does that mean that Uroque killed Commander that he beaten ? Or that Big Mom thrown away or degraded this one sweet commander ?
-
This haki thing will make all of the swords go blunt.. :getlost:
-
Man can't wait to see Urouge in action.

Strongest he's gone up against…..

Either he killed him or Big Mom killed him….for failing......
As for his strongest attack, King Kong gun is the strongest we've seen so far....he could have stronger ones he's not used yet....
-

What if Capone saved him ? Dun dun duuuun.
Dammit Oda, I have to wait a week to see Nami's reaction to gear four.

Uroque was badly wounded and managed to get away. She thought he didnt even make it outside of forest. Perhaps it happened recently - we would need to see 4th degraded sweet commander to be certain - if he is still covered in bandages same as Uroque. Or if Uroque killed him(if thats possible).
Pekoms who felt like quite big name with his 330mln and one-shotting Caribou, a logia, now feels like perfectly fit to join Strawhats if Luffys going at it with Pirate who is 860mln and one of absolute top of Big Mom crew.
-
Yikes, those poor trees!
Well, with Cracker put down and his shield broken, guess no one's really gonna be able to keep them from leaving now. As for the trees blocking the way, they could just break more. -
My two cents:
-Good to see Shanks' crew again, even if it's on a cover page. I've always loved Dragon Tattoo's Dude and Monkey Dude's designs, it'd be nice to get their names. Yasopp laughing at his son's wanted poster
-Cracker is really strong, as expected. And some people were like "this guy doesn't even deserve Luffy's time". Oh, AP…
-So Kid's scar probably comes from his little adventure on BM's territory. Weird that Apoo shows no visible scars, I guess he's just that cool (or he escaped with his tail between his legs as quickly as he could, as always lol).
-HOLY SHIT UROUGE. HOLY SHIT. FANGASMING OVER HERE. So that's why he was so hurt back when he met Kaido... it would be nice to have a flashback about his intrusion on Mama's territory. Man, I'm more excited than ever to see him interact with the Straw Hats, he's always been my favourite Supernova.
-Pound saves Nami, nice to see him getting his minute of glory, I like the guy.
-Luffy goes into Gear 4 when angered and cornered against the wall. I'm liking where this is heading.
-
Personally I'm hoping we see Kong Gatling against Cracker.
-
Hype, thy name is Urouge!
Some nice expositions and an epic ruthless fight. Never wanted more, awesome.
-
As it stands Luffy is hopelessly out classed by Kaido. He's gonna have to push it up a few levels if he's to stand a chance against him/…....
Oda has mentioned in an interview that he's made Kaido too strong for Luffy. I imagine he has something else in store for however Luffy is going to beat him. We shall see.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
This chapter establishes how truly far apart the Yonkou are from the Supernoves. Not necessarily in power (but probably that too) but the idea that they can't even get a look at them without bowing is pretty intriguing. Luffy, having met 2 of them, is in a ways privileged and in another cursed, though he's never really known Shanks as Strawhat Luffy. That reunion is really going to be something, eh?
-
What if Capone saved him ? Dun dun duuuun.
Dammit Oda, I have to wait a week to see Nami's reaction to gear four.
She will not see it.
As for wedding, Luffy wont have it easy next chapter but he will win. Even if Cracker CoA is world class then he still took damage from Gear Fourth attack. Entire chapter of Gear Fourth attacks incomming would be as sweet as Candy from Fishman Island..
Gear Fourth will tire him out so he wont be able to put much of a fight for at least one more day until the wedding.
-
Oda has mentioned in an interview that he's made Kaido too strong for Luffy. I imagine he has something else in store for however Luffy is going to beat him. We shall see.
Yeah, Oda said Luffy's not going to beat Kaido by 'traditional means' aka punching him until he's down. He also said he doesn't even know how Luffy's going to beat Kaido yet, and he's still figuring it out. I think a clue lies in what Franky said before they left Zou "I'm going to build something to help take down Kaido". Who knows though.
-
Cool chapter. I have no idea how this fight will conclude. Unleashing Gear Fourth now implies serious struggle once the time limit is over… but it was necessary to compete with Cracker. Since Big Mom sends him to destroy Supernovae, he has to be among the top executives of her crew. It would be disappointing to see Luffy beat him now...
As I said in the spoiler section, I'm glad Urouge is receiving this "hyping" treatement. He seems like a very powerful character. I bet he has an insane CoA/CoO (other than his feats, haki is somehow linked to spirituality, and he's a monk, so...).
-
-
Yikes, those poor trees!
Well, with Cracker put down and his shield broken, guess no one's really gonna be able to keep them from leaving now. As for the trees blocking the way, they could just break more.Only one of shields was broken and at end of chapter we can see that Cracker is not KOed, he is making "hngh.." sound so I expect that after getting hit so hard he will give his all and go all out.
Some short, pretty even fight with Luffy landing KOing hit and either Cracker wounding Luffy or simply damaging him even more with Luffy needing to be patched up and resting for a day or more.
I cannot see Luffy loosing but I can see Cracker trying to go all out desperately so he stops Luffy.Cracker said that "over his dead body" Luffy can go and break into wedding - maybe we will see if Big Mom kills her commanders for Failure.
-
I love when characters who look like random ugly fodder turn out to be a threat. I know I wasn't expecting Cracker to be strong, regardless of his bounty, so I'm happy to see how things turned out.
And Luffy better have something thing else under his sleeve. Gear 4 was not enough to OHKO Doflamingo, so you can be sure Cracker is coming back andm, if his CoA is that strong, Gear4's time limit will expire long before he can finish this guy.
But what really matters is Urouge is around! \o/ Maybe BM falling this arc is not that much of a stretch, apparently there will be multiple enemies attacking her this time, so it will not be much different from what we are expecting to happen in Wano.
-
A shame Oda has become slightly inorganic with his exposition bursts. But, will you look at that, thanks to that random exposition burst, we just received the intel that Urouge is the true Supernova King.
The action was nice, same thing with the art. Which, btw, has been pretty blasted good lately.
I'm guessing Cracker will resist a bit more before biting the ground just in time for Luffy to get exhausted, I mean, to "run out of haki", sorry (urgh, still hate that).
Not the biggest fan of haki basically turning swords aimed at you into blunt objects.
Nami getting some action, Pound helping and the way Brulee's power work, all nice stuff.
-
i hope this will end the fight between them and can be considdered a draw, further fighting looks meaningless
-
Nice chapter.
-
Gear Fourth will tire him out so he wont be able to put much of a fight for at least one more day until the wedding.
I thought about Luffy getting tired, but the good news is that there is food everywhere in this island. So basically Luffy cannot run out of energy :-)
-
It's really sad that the difference between gears 2/3 and gear 4 is tremendous.
Also, I don't think that Luffy will use some new techniques like kong gatling or king-kong bazooka against Cracker. I think he wins this so that we'd see his trainings were good enough to take down yonko's top executives. -
I love the "at this moment, I realize I fucked up" face of Cracker when he's about to get Kong Gunned. There's even a drip of sweat there. Probably Luffy's CoC since he pissed him off by talking trash about Sanji.
-
Some real ups and downs this chapter.
The initial battle with Cracker is pretty dang solid, and really gives impact to his strikes. Then we get an exposition dump from Brulee, which is so text heavy that the transition is rather jarring. Nami gets a good in-character moment with Lolas card, and the scene of Cracker pressing down on Luffy is pretty effective, but it ends with another jarring, extremely sudden transition to the gear 4 strike. Like, it feels as if theres several panels missing.Oh well, shame about the ending, and the Supernova Shout-Out doesn't interest me, but there was some dynamic, visually interesting action going on as well. Luffy flying through that one trees head was great.
-

You are right ! So simple yet I missed this out haha
With that amount of food one day should be plenty for recovery. -
So Luffy saying Cracker has the strongest armament haki he's ever felt??? Mangastream translation??
-
Only one of shields was broken and at end of chapter we can see that Cracker is not KOed, he is making "hngh.." sound so I expect that after getting hit so hard he will give his all and go all out.
I personally am sticking with the expectation that the Cracker fight is done for now. My bet's that anything he had for a shield is gone now, just like if Robin had an arm duplicated (it couldn't be hurt then merged back unscathed); there was never any notion that Cracker went unconscious but enough was done that they can move on with their business now, as Nami has already been in a hurry to do.

Well it was explosion of anger. No need for several panels if emotions just snapped in Luffy. Drawing out panels with transformation would take away impact from scene. It was instant instead of more "Grand Transformation" we had against Doflamingo.
-
gosh, for years everyone was like "Urouge ? isn't he the guy who have the lowest bounty among the supernova? haha "
damn, we've been fooled. and how did he get to this sky island ? with wings maybe ?
that'd be awesome if his ship was a mini-skyisland.Strongest attack ? Well I would say that KING KONG GUN is many times stronger than Kong Gun.
Also Brulee says that they had 4 commanders but now they have 3 - does that mean that Uroque killed Commander that he beaten ? Or that Big Mom thrown away or degraded this one sweet commander ?
he already used King Kong Gun against Doflamingo.
and yeah, this is exactly what I was wondering but here's my theory:
-the commander Urouge has beaten was a samurai, he lost and did hara-kiri.As for his strongest attack, King Kong gun is the strongest we've seen so far….he could have stronger ones he's not used yet....
yep, some fans have this theory that Rayleigh left 6monts before the end of Luffy's training, so Luffy still has something up his sleeve because he taught him about Gear 4.
but if I recall right, just before using King Kong Gun Luffy's says something like "I'll have to use it" and Doflamingo says "show me this one technique you're so proud of".
so, I hope he's got something but I wouldn't be positive. You are right ! So simple yet I missed this out haha
With that amount of food one day should be plenty for recovery. We're still waiting for the most anticipated moment of the arc –>>> Luffy eating an island !!! ( or BigMom's palace, that'd be fine too )

Maybe Cracker will retreat after seeing that display of power?
He's not in a death match with Luffy like Doffy was.
@.access:
But what really matters is Urouge is around!
I think he's still up in the clouds, waiting to give advice to suicidal Yonko.
@.access:

I think there's still too much tied into the whole Big Mom/Fishman Island/Poseidon thing for her to go down in this arc tbh.
I also can't see the first Yonko falling without all the SHs being present.
-

I don't think we needed elaborate time spent on showing the transformation, but the transition was just off. One moment Luffy is pressed into the dirt by Cracker, the next he's up in the air, in Gear 4 mode, and punching through Crackers defenses. How Luffy triggers the transformation, gets away and in position for the strike isn't shown, there's just a single, tiny "dust explosion" panel thats supposed to convey all of the above. Its a subjective thing, but it just sort of felt like a cheat to me. How does Luffy get out of this pickle and in position to strike back? Eh, people can imagine that for themselves, let's just stick a dust explosion there as a transition.

Same way he torn Doflamingo strings. He enlarged himself and slipped from under Crackers shield or it bounced off during transformation.
I get what you mean, but it wasnt big deal for me. I rather see why it was done like that than to see why it wasnt done differently.I personally am sticking with the expectation that the Cracker fight is done for now. My bet's that anything he had for a shield is gone now, just like if Robin had an arm duplicated (it couldn't be hurt then merged back unscathed); there was never any notion that Cracker went unconscious but enough was done that they can move on with their business now, as Nami has already been in a hurry to do.
One of Yonkou top commanders cannot get one shotted. Probably fight will be hard but short but I dont see it as an end. There is a bit more to show with Cracker Devil Fruit and Luffys Gear Fourth.
-
Hmmm interesting indeed to go Gear 4 against a "underling" it appears he will need to either refine Gear 4 and optimize it or he will need to take it up another level for Big Mom and beyond. I don't think Oda will continue to use Gear's for his future power ups, look how long it took for us to get a new named version of Super Saiyan. I think by optimizing his gears and training in them, something we surprisingly don't see Luffy do. He will get to a point where he can use Gear 2 to test out the opponents power and adjust accordingly. Similar to how Goku's base power up is SSJ2 now and then goes to Blue when the time arises. Good chapter though, nice to see the Strawhats are realizing again this is the New World.

I thought Cracker was knocked out by that punch, at least from the facial expression it seemed like it. Also perhaps Luffy has gotten better with his stamina in Gear 4, could it be like how Saiyans get stronger after a near death battle.
-
Hopefully this'll put an end to most of the ridiculous power level discussions involving Luffy. But he's definitely strong.
DAT Urouge hype!

I don't really care myself. If I would about something, it is more that Luffy needs a "nakama trigger" to get serious once again.
Now after Brulee speech, Luffy needs to show that the expression worst generation is not wasted on him :-)

Are you dreaming ? It is time to wake up !

Really nice chapter.
Dat Urouge hype
EDIT
Can someone explain me the panel where Brulee said "no just Pound"is there a deeper reason for it
