Just making sure– no release date set for voyage four, right?
Not yet, but with FUNimation's November Solicitations right around the corner (Should be in a week or two) there is a strong possibility Voyage 4 should be in that lot.
-
Yah on Next Monday they should release the dates on the November Sets and i pretty sure One Piece will be on there since they have been doing them every other month
-
So, would you guys say that the "Ship item as soon as possible" option is the best shipping option for buying the DVDs on FUNi's website with standard shipping?
-
One Piece Season 8, Voyage 4 is coming out on November 22nd.
-
Zooming on the box art, it looks like, without a doubt, that 492 will not be on the set.
The best chances of us ever seeing those episodes dubbed is in a special crossover set, if such a thing ever happens.
-
-
It was confirmed on Funimation's twitter.
-
The best i could do :P
-
Oh. So I can't preorder it yet. Good to have confirmation, though. The boxart looks cute.

I can't tell if that's a two or a three.
-
Looks like a 3 to me.
-
I was hoping it would be early november so there would be a small chance the last of season 8 would be in mid/late january but it looks more likely that it'll be late february/early march for S8V6
Guess Im gonna catch up my sibling with the dub around Late september and that'll follow a two month break until this flashback and then ill go into the sub straight away not gonna stretch out 80 episodes over 7 months
-
It's definitely a 3, so yeah its starting on 493 for this set.
-
man, when this comes out that means we'll have over 500 dubbed eps of One Piece (and in what should be just 2 sets after this one, we'll be getting 3D2Y). That's awesome ….
-
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know of some potential good news regarding the future stays of a potential Broadcast dub. Across the pond in South Korea, the channel Anione has started to air a broadcast dub of their own, starting with episode 751 (the episode aired last Thursday, almost two weeks after the Japanese airing).
The thing is, until now, the Korean dub has been releasing episodes at about the same pace as the Funimation release (they just finished airing up to the end of marineford a few weeks ago). It should also be noted that this the first ever broadcast dub in South Korea.
This doesn't necessarily mean we'll be getting the same thing over here by any means, but I think our chances of getting a broadcast dub in the US may not be a pipe dream in the near future now that Toei seems to be comfortable with doing this in other territorites.

I like that box art, I can't wait to see it in higher resolution.

And this was a Korean dub, not an English dub?
-
Yes, it is dubbed in Korean. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
-
I just hope we One Piece dub fans get some kind of big special announcement next weekend, if Korea can do a broadcast dub then so can we, i want a true confirmation on the dubbing of 3D2Y and One Piece Film Gold, with the former being better for right now in my opinion

I'm still awaiting the dubbing of all the movies. I just fear the longer we wait the less likely it is they'll dub 10+ year old movies.

Wasn't those just random filler movies like the DBZ movies back in the day
-
All of the movies have always been filler, but they ranged from forgettable to great fun to watch.
-
The old OP movies re not as good as STRONG WORLD and FILM Z.
-
You're right; they're not as good. One is BETTER.

And then there's movie 3 which is almost like a generic straight to dvd disney knockoff.
-

you did what one is better. Strong World is my fav.
-
The sixth film has the best animation, but Strong World is probably my favorite plot/villain. The fourth one is pretty good, but there's no need for us all to start talking about which movies are good and which aren't; we've all had that discussion before. I'd like Funimation to dub them all. Don't see how it's so different from releasing a set. There shouldn't be that much more ADR work for them than for the episodes. Movie two or three packs would get them money. I don't see why they don't do it.
I just got back from an international trip. One Piece is the most popular in Europe. Best selling manga in France; the love for it there is far more clear than in the States. Really disappointing that Naruto overshined it here; blame that one on 4Kids. I went to a film store in Paris– they had pretty much every movie dubbed in French. And the bookstores had the Chopperman spin-off and a parody gag called Two Piece.
I tell you, the things we're missing out on because of 4Kids and OP not getting the popularity it deserves here...

Yeah Funimation really tried to secure One Piece from the beginning but somehow 4kids managed to outbid them. The thing we have to factor in though is that if FUnimation had got One Piece we probably wouldn't have had some of the voice actors we have now for instance Colleen wasn't working with them back then.

Well, 4Kids got it in a package deal with another show from Toei basically because Toei was like "If you want to do this show, you have to do One Piece" and they accepted it without screening the show and just going off of Toei's description and how much money it made. FUNi was close to getting it in 2003 to the point where they registered domain names for websites and even sent their test dub of Episode 3 to Cartoon Network (which they were interested in which made them pick up the 4Kids dub along with the fact that the Toonami guys wanted it since before negations between Toei and FUNi even started) but something happened between them and Toei that made them not get the license. Also, I'd love to see the other movies get dubbed by FUNi.
-
That's a more detailed story than I've heard before. Where'd you hear all that?
-
I don't think the part about OP being a package deal for 4kids is right, but the rest seems to be. There was an interview with a former 4kids rep that's floating around somewhere about it. There was also a OP podcast episodes where they talked about test dubs back from the early 2000' s.
Regarding the popularity in France Zephry, one of the reasons it is so popular is that Tori did a great job marketing the heck out of the franchise when the new dub started in 2008.
Actually, things could have ended up the same way in France as here, because there was actually a first dub produced in 2003 of the first 52 episodes that were pretty bad quality wise. For one, it was produced entirely in Quebec (that would be like an Animax dub airing on TV in the States). It also had name changes like "Zoko" and "Sandy" for Sanji. There was probably censorship too but don't quote me on that. It was also commissioned by the AB Groupe, the same people who commissioned the Big Green dub of the DBZ movies, yeah. Then in 2008, Toei commissioned a dub with Kana media, and made an accurate, well produced dub, entirely in Europe this time. Toei licences the show to many channels, made contracts with merchandise dealers, got caught up with the Japanese broadcast within 5 years, and even staged marketing events around the country.
That's probably not the only reason OP does so well over there, as anime and foreign media is a lot more popular in France as a whole, but I'm sure extra marketing helped for the title's popularity.

The package deal part is right, a rep said it in an interview once.

Any idea why they didn't help market it here?
-
@ussop Oh sorry my bad, I just thought that it was refuted that 4kids bought the show in a package deal. Stuff blurs over the years, sorry if I sounded off the cuff when I said that!
@Zhephry Well, I think a lot has to do with the fact that Toei commissioned the dub on their own. Toei was probably comfortable with Funimation taking the reigns, since they did well with marketing Dragon Ball. That not to say Funimation HASN'T done a great job with marketing OP here in the states, they just didn't go crazy with it like they did in France with advertising, expos, TV exposure and even music concerts(though it would seem that Funimation has taped with their advertising I'm the last few years, France hasn't). Also, again, France has a huge market for anime, it isn't as much as a niche genre over there. More people to market to, the bigger the advertising campaign.

I tell you, the things we're missing out on because of 4Kids and OP not getting the popularity it deserves here…
I don't think this is true. One Piece is popular and if anything it's the only long running Shonen besides Dragonball that hasn't worn out it's welcome. I think it's a matter of perspective and a lot of One Piece fans wish that the show had Dragonball level popularity comparative to it's Japanese status. The thing is the show has had a consistent and growing presence among anime American fandom. It seems to always hit top 10 charts when a new volume comes out, it's on Toonami, new video games are coming out for it (even if not dubbed, they didn't drop off like Bleach did), it has a presence on Best Buy shelves (which tend to sum up the most popular anime's in the American mindset) and like Naruto and Bleach has doesn't paint the series as a failure. While it seems there was missed time thanks to 4Kids license let's understand that this is pre-FMA Funimation during this time and the company was still building it's IP. One Piece could have turned out like Yu Yu Hakusho and lost it's popularity over time. If anything the negative reputation from the 4Kids era HELPED the fans support the 4Kids release and Funi's strategy of dubbing Season 3 FIRST (to be "in continuity" with where the 4Kids dub left off, similar to the Ocean to Funi situation with DBZ), releasing the newest movie at the time (Alabasta actually helped preview how that arc would be handled), AND the newest game (same with how this covered the post-Water Seven arc and gave us a preview of dub Franky almost 5 years before he would take on the role permanently) helped wet fans appetite. By the time Season 1 came around proper everyone completely embraced the show and it's dub. Once people got over Bleach and Naruto's initial buzz it just seems that One Piece has always been a consistent performer.

And there we have it.

It's a bummer, but if anything at least we get to keep the original episode numbering.

True this. Case Closed became such a clusterfuck when they started splitting the one hour specials into two episodes and doing their own numbering (as if it wasn't already with the name changes, missing openings/endings, different DVD releases missing different things).

I don't think anyone is expecting OP being more popular than Dragon Ball, but being vastly outsold by a joke series like Fairy Tail that lacks any sense of originality is tragic.

Well while we don't know that for sure because FUNi doesn't do quarterly reports anymore or sales reports very often, I do agree that it'd be ridiculous if such an awful series like Fairy Tale that rips off One Piece sells better than One Piece itself.
-
I cant beleieve fairy tail[its not even on tv) would outsell one piece.

Funimation is having an industry panel tommorow morning at Matsuricon 10AM EST. The One Piece Cast will be there so hopefully us One Piece dub fans will have some news come our way

I would hope so. If not, it would seem like a waste of an opportunity. Personally, I'd be pretty salty if Film Gold isn't announced this month.
And this is probably nothing, but Morgan Berry liked this tweet
She might have a role in One Piece coming up soon. -

Morgan Berry is also a singer so perhaps she could be voicing that singing character
-
I guess nothing was announced :/

Let's see what tomorrow brings.
