Convince her to watch the Arlong Arc. I fiercely recommend making her see that one!
Trying to get my friend to watch OP
-
-
If she doesn't mind spoilers then make her watch that really great Arabsta one. It's on Youtube. Then make her watch Luffy vs Krieg. It shows Luffy wasn't afraid of anything, he never gave up.
-
Nooo, that was the most boring fight in the entire series! I couldn't wait for it to end!
Haha, you're going to get different answers based on different people's opinions.
1 episode is just too difficult. If possible, try to get him to watch the Arlong arc, or at least something in Arlong Park.
OR…Zoro v. Mihawk...that one was a big part of me getting hooked.
You shouldn't show him something that is a major, future spoiler.Yay we agree on something! (regarding Luffy vs Krieg)
I agree with the Zoro vs Mihawk fight that's probably the best example but you could also show something from Skypiea like Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp vs Satori.
-
I got my friend hooked with ep. 37 (the one with Nami's utter freakout). It shows the more serious side of One Piece, and it's a really emotional and well-acted bit; plus, the lead-in to the fights at Arlong Park makes a great hook, and then the fights themselves deliver, especially with that as a real emotional stakes.
This is also the episode that got me really hooked, so I'm partial. ;)
*I see this topic is kind of dead. Eh well, for future reference.
-
A lot of these topics come up very often, so I've been working on a battle plan to cover all the bases for new fans.
(The following will be contraversial, and many may disagree, but it is just a personal suggestion you can follow if you like).Start of with movie 2 (as it is the most well rounded, perhaps best, OP movie to introduce the entire crew), and then go to episode 24 right away, this is because Zoro is the most interesting and attractive character in the begining of the series.
If s/he's not interested by the end of 24, then s/he may simply not like it at all, so you don't have to continue.. otherwise
Go to episode 4, and give him/her the backstory of Luffy and Shanks. If she/he is still into it start from the begining and let the show do the rest of the work.
If she/he are borderline after episode 4, go to arlong park (Episode 31) and force him/her to watch it the whole way through, if they still aren't satisfied after Arlong Park, there's no hope. It's personal taste and you must respect it, if they are, appologize that you spoiled them and make them watch it from the begining.
(The reason I think it's ok to not find out about Sanjis past till later is because it actually makes him that much cooler if you find out after AP what his background is, Ussop it isn't quite as important, as his interesting stories lie in his future, not his past). -
For me I didn't really get into One Piece until like Episode 5 with the introduction of Buggy the Clown. But that is just me. The way I got a couple of my friends into the series was that they walked into my room, while I was watching the Mihawk Vs. Zoro fight. They were say whoa, that he is cool. But for my personal taste if they don't mind spoilers, I would reccomend Usopp and Chopper Vs. The Mr.4 Pair from Alabasta. But that just me.
-
Sail On has way to many spoilers
If they haven't really seen it before, it doesn't matter. If anything, it could make them interested in what everything going on is about.
-
That's how I was in the beginning too. I thought it sucked, since I had only seen the 4Kids dub. :getlost:
Then, my friend made me watch the subbed stuff, and I was hooked. -
I got hooked on the 4kids dub, not realizing the dubs. Actually, I could've sworn that the pistol was left, and so was everytihng except the blood.
Anyway, I'm trying to get this friend to..You know. He's like "One Piece Sux!! i am the Hax0R!! Fear me, n00bs!! Naruto and Star Wars are better!!!!! But Lord of the Rings pwns them all!!!!! ONE Piece is the worst show ever!!!!! It's worst than Tiny tunes!!!!" Fuckin' douche bag. >_>
Can't believe he's my friend, oh wait, we only know each other, but he's like "Can you be my friend?? I'm lonely T_T" I should have said "Fuck off!! I barely know you!!"
-
My friend… he refuses to even give the sub a try. He clings digilgently (and stupidly) to the Dub... did I mention that he also adores DBZ? And that the japanese DBZ voices scare the hell out of him? (haven't heard them, so I can't tell...) in all actuality, I think his experiences with japanese DBZ is what makes him scared to try the japanese...
However, once I can take my episodes to school, I can show them what true OP is... I was thinking of starting them off on the sub with the Zoro v. Mihawk episode, to show them what they're missing, then continue on with the episodes they've missed... (I don't know if they could download the epsiodes themselves if they wanted to, I know my one friend, he operates on dial-up... and it already takes me like 2 months to torrent a batch of 10 episodes... I have at least to the end of the semester that I could operate, I don't know if I'll have them in my lunch hour again then...)

Now we are talking. That´s something I´m a real pro at. I´ve got countless narutards (and other tards as well) to like OP in my life. I´m really experienced at that, believe me (it´s kind of a mission for me). In the begining I had doubts as to what would be the best part to introduct them, but nowadays I can say through empirical facts that it´s AP.
The best is to actually drive him through the arc (always cutting what you feel is unecessary), mainly the flashback and especifically episode 37. That scene of Nami stabbing herself will drive alway any kind of "oh this is childsh" that person could have. Now, if it´s a girl I have to show OP to (specifically a shoujo fan) then I do not know. Girls tend do dislike to much blood like in that scene (shoujo fans even more). Then I do not know how to actually get girls hooked.
Anyway, after you show all the build up to Arlong fight, just cut it after Ruffy´s enters his park. Yeah, be cruel, do not let him see the end of the fight. Then go a bit farther ahead. I was used to use Zoro´s x Mr.1 fight to show that there were good fights in OP. Now I use Blueno, all the fight, cutting the parts that do not belong to it. And remember, explain every little power, how they came, what is rokushiki and spoil ALL YOU MUST. He will never get interested if you care about that. He will be mad at you later, but f*ck that, it was his damn fault for being a generictard. That´s assuming you have means to actually meet him especifically for that. If not, just point out the number of AP episode´s you feel he will actually whatch. And always be persitant. Tell him how great OP is, how emotional, always be enthusiastic about it, meaning, do not let he breath untill he sees it.

Hey there, I'm sure a few of you have had this trouble, Im trying to get my friend to watch OP, but he insists it is lame.
Here is a little of our convo,
Kraker: cmon its 280 episodes and 7 movies strong…it cant be that bad can it ><
Kraker: somebody must like it for it to go on so long
Friend : kids
Kraker: so ?
Friend : that like sums it upp
Kraker: it airs at the same time as bleach and naruto
Kraker: 7.30pm
Friend : point being? Then I asked him why,
Friend : i base it on teh animations
Kraker: what it looks funny thats why?
Friend : yup
Kraker: but.....its still anime
Kraker: its different
Kraker: it cant all be spikey hair and pointy chins
Friend : different isnt necessarily a good thing
Friend : its all noob drawings
Friend : the dudes like 80 foot tall
Friend : his body and everything looks like a blind child drew itHe has never seen an episode either. Does anyone think there is anything I can do, or is he a lost case and I should just drop it.
-
Try sending him a clip off youtube or something. And then try going from there.
Just a thought.
-
Find a badass AMV of sick fight scenes and send it to him.
-
Show him/her Sail On. I strongly suspect that's a troll, though, so I would advise against not even bothering to convince him/her about OP.
-
I've gotten a handful of friends to look at One Piece, even after being exposed to one or two episodes of 4Kids' poison and hated it. Try showing said person some scenes with Ace. I dunno, everybody loves Ace. Personally I like the Nero vs. Franky fight scene, but one of my friends hated it, so I dunno… If all else fails, then strap them to the chair or try the old 1, 2, Jango! trick. :P
-
If they were a good friend, they would atleast give it a try just for you. If they're just stubborn, then show him a good fight scene from YouTube.
-
Make him watch One Piece episode 37. That should dispel all thoughts of a kiddy show for him.
-
ok ok my convo wit my friends(and one is a big the animation) is the same BUT they have seen some eps….dub.And thats why they don't even want to try the Sub version. Also there is no way i can send them a ep clip or anything help me PLZ!!!
P.S.Have a psp wit some eps on it BUT all spoiler eps if they haven't got that far which i know they haven't cuz they don't like it >.< -
I hate when people do that, Just blow something off without actually watching or reading it. I say actually get him/her to watch an episode or movie i would chose movie 6 or 7, They show comedy and good fights or something from a recent arc.
Is he/she a narutard cause if so FINISH HIM!

36 and 37 together are worth it IMO.
You're right, 37 is full of badassness (although honestly, I thought the animation a bit rigid during the march on Arlong Park), but opening with blowing a mother away in front of her kids says "hey, this isn't all light and cuddly"
I think 40 is one of the best for fights, cos you get two decent fights in one episode. Sanji v. Kuroobi is typical dueling badassness and Usopp v. Chuu is hilarious yet at the same time impressive.
-
I'll try sending him Sail On later on today. I dont know if he will watch it, he would probably see "One Piece" written there and close it. >_<…..But I can always try.

I'm considering one day making a AMV of kickass scenes from One Piece with a comedic scene starting it. My hope is to use it to convince OP haters.

damn it who hates op:devil::devil::ninja::happy:
just tell me who -
Kuro arc may be good. The fight was good except for Kuro standing on Luffy's arm. The East blue saga wasn't as good as everything else. But they're in small doses so they're cool. Arlong was when it picked up. But if you just show it straight then they don't know what it picked up from.
If the friend is a tard, break their groin.
-
I would either make him watch Episode 1 or Movie 4.
Both are good, neither have spoilers.
-
movie 4 does.
Robin especially, but it shows future straw hats.
-
I was trying to burn 273-275 to DVD. It didn't work and it just turned to a Data disk. I had no need for it so I gave it to a friend. At the time he thought One Piece was gay, ect, ect, ect. While I was on Lanai he tried it out, and he actually liked it. He's now watching it on Youtube.
-
Dammit yasin sounds like a typical ignorant anime fanboy. Tell him he sounds like a typical ignorant anime fanboy. I dont mean to bad mouth your friend but really…he should give OP a chance...I mean how the hell does an anime get THAT popular with just kids watching?(Feel free to tell me how too)
You know what you should do, well a few things:
- make a bet with him, if he loses you tell him to watch OP till episodes 50
- Pop in a OP movie. Since it won't drag on and you'll knwo there will be tons of fights.
- Save his life and if he says "Is there anything I can do to repay you" or somthing along those lines, tell him to watch OP.
Some a little farfetch but eh...
I don't post for like months and this is what I come up with...geez...
-
Show him/her Sail On. I strongly suspect that's a troll, though, so I would advise against not even bothering to convince him/her about OP.
Ditto on Sail On. I've gotten quite a few into it just through that.
Kuro arc may be good. The fight was good except for Kuro standing on Luffy's arm.
Eh? I loved that part. That was pretty much what got me into OP. o.O
-
Eh? I loved that part. That was pretty much what got me into OP. o.O
Some might be turned off by the fact that Luffy's arm is remaining perfectly still and Kuro is freaking standng on the arm as it should be snapping back.
-
Might I suggest 191/192, the episode where Luffy finishes off Enel. That was a very nice concusion, full of drama and emotion, not to mention a damn good fight.
-
I actually am trying to get a friend to watch One Piece…
He's only seen the 1st two episodes...:getlost:But if i can suggest some i'd say the Arlong Park, Whiskey Peak, Jaya and Davy Back Fight episodes...
Maybe not teh better ones in emotion, but they kick some so much !
And Arlong Park contains evrything that's good in One Piece from tears tou laughs through great action scenes. -
Kuro arc is good for someone starting one piece.
-
Arlong Arc always does the trick, as newcomers can relate to wanting to stomp the face of speciest assholes.
-
Just invited my 24 year old friend to watch OP. Convinced him using the scene of defeat of crocodile and the OP SOCCER SPECIAL. LOL!
-
Some might be turned off by the fact that Luffy's arm is remaining perfectly still and Kuro is freaking standng on the arm as it should be snapping back.
Ah, true, that's understandable. Still thought it was rather cool at the time (and still do, even if it isn't the greatest of animations or anything Xp ).
-
The defeat of crocodile was dope. All major OP fights are super, but that one was really good.
