Seeing Hemigawa, did the other part where she went berserk ever come out? I feel Naruto would make sure to come home because piss her off then you are doomed. Also, we really didn't need that first part being hammered in about "this is my story" and "it takes three people". Subtlety is good, but hitting us on the head with a hammer gets annoying.
Bart Simpson Thread XI: The Movie - The Manga Adaption - The Animation

Not half bad. I like that Naruto is genuinely a bit of an asshole. It'll probably end up being a story of how Boruto should've respected his dad more and not about Naruto being an ass, but for now I'll enjoy it. I like the art-style too. There's a few awkward poses here and there, but it's got a nice sense of movement.
And apparently it's a rehearsal of the movie? Guess it was a good thing I skipped it.
-
You know Bort's a terrible character when he decides Sasuke's cool.
-
Out of all places, I never thought I would be meeting Lain's fater again in Naruto:
Well, the chapter was not good, I agree that it was constantly stating the obvious as if the author was expecting the readers to not figure anything by themselves ("Wow, this is really hard! That's why I can't chill at home with my family sigh ¯_(ツ)_/¯"), but was not Platinum End bad. Good thing I didn't watch the movie, so I can treat everything as new content. The art looks a bit weird, but there is plenty of time to improve… the only that bothering me is the Yamanaka blue pupiless (?) eyes became black eyes (wtf?). I hope he gets that right soon. Add that to Inojin face suddenly being round and his pale skin being darker in the color spread, he is looking nothing like himself.
-
Have to say the art is a little jarring at first but I think I prefer it over kishi's style. Feels more real.
-
Except for the fact that she keeps spouting how she want to be Hokage, I'm rooting for Sarada on everything. She at least looks up to a decent person (Naruto), and I want her to be one person with a Sharingan that isn't a complete prick. Good thing overall is she doesn't have to spend time with her dad almost at all. I know that's a bad thing to say, but the less contact with Sasuke the better. Also, she should slap Boruto because at least he doesn't have the stigma of being the child of a killer, a man who tried to kill his wife multiple times, and attempted to destroy everything. The fact that his Dad is too busy trying to keep the world from going to shit and making sure nothing like a world war happens again seems petty in that respect.
-
The constant switches on the artstyle gave me a headache.
The author couldnt decide between copying the old style or go for a new one.
I wont even comment on the story because I didnt even bothered to read further than a few pages.
-
@The:

I honestly doubt anyone hold Sasuke accountable for that.
-
Yeah the art's a little janky. Also the woman that handed those letters out….was that Konohomaru's friend (Moegi)?
Also, I can't say I really believe these dynamics - it's kinda understandable Naruto's son would feel a little neglected but I think the concept is trying way too hard (I mean, you have Hinata the sweetest woman ever as your mother and Naruto isn't exactly cold by any stretch of the imagination), and wtf at Sasuke's daughter wanting to be Hokage. Were these characters supposed to be switched or something?!
-
@.access:

Well it has been swept under the rug, nuked, and thrown into a black hole that nobody would remember it at all. Sausuke is Obito alive, a cool guy that Naruto likes, and you shouldn't question someone he likes.
-

There was a whole 10 chapter gaiden about that! The Boruto part I agree, the kid is overracting…
-

Huh, I guess I missed that. X3
But on the flip side I'm liking her simply because she has a clear goal in mind and looks up to Naruto, whereas Boruto…..I suppose it at least switches up the dynamic that we're not looking at Naruto-Sasuke copypasta.
-

Who killed who ?
-
Who killed who ?
Sorry, I should've put attempted killer. Sasuke did kill some people (aka Danzo), but they were bad people. He did attempt to kill Sakura a number of times though.

Actually Danzo committed suicide.
Kishimoto seemed to have this weird thing against having Sasuke outright kill people for some reason.

I stand corrected. My memory of most of the series, especially after timeskip is very fuzzy. Despite that, I still feel bad that Sarada has to have Sausuke as a father because of the whole attempted murder and just being an overall prick.
-
I liked it. I don't know how well it's going to play out, but I like the theme of the era of Ninjas being on it's way out.
Also, these first chapters are based off of the movie? The Sarada mini-series takes place after this then?
-

I'm pretty sure it does. If I recall the mini-series correctly, that stuff was before they graduated and became genin. Now here they are getting ready to start the Chunin exam, so a certain amount of time has passed by.
Edit:
Sorry, misread that. Sarada takes place before this.
-
…this is just the Boruto movie. What is even the point of this...

Ah, thanks. For some reason I remembered people saying it was after the movie.
@TLC:

For the people who didn't see the movie? It'll definitely go past it.
-
I thought it was pretty interesting. It makes me feel weird that I kinda liked it and thought Sasuke seemed cool (because he seems to be the only real ninja left). I never watched the movie (and probably never will) so I don't know what's going to happen.
Liked the technology, glad people aren't wasting their time only doing ninja crap.
-
Am I the only one that doesn't really dislike Boruto and even can empathize with him?
Lokking from his perspective (as well as mine for the most part - minus the Kaguya part which actually screams serious business) it really looks like Naruto isn't doing anything worthwhile aside from sitting in his office and acting high and mighty.
Besides, Sasuke actually felt like a good person in this chapter. Assuming Boruto doesn't have any context (which we of course have) I don't see anything wrong with Boruto idolizing him. Especially after that birthday which made Boruto even more pissed, it's a natural reaction how he went to Sasuke instead.
-
Any reason why Boruto has a Byakugan in just one eye? And are we actually gonna go Zetman and only come back to that thing in the first pages like a hundred chapters later?
-
Well, that was way better than expected. Boruto seems like a real kid instead of an idealized archetype designed to appeal to kids. I like that he's pessimistic and moody without being a total bore (like Sasuke).
That said, getting excited about a new series brought to us by the man who switched the main antagonist of his 10+ year long series 3 times in the final arc, ending up with a weird moon lady that nobody knew or cared about, is a tough thing to do.
-
a pretty interesting chapter..i like that it's not just naruto 2.0 but new themes are being added to the mix..maybe this time it will also make some sense
the artist is one of kishimoto's assistants right?
i recognize the style from all those "congratulation for x years of naruto" drawingsonly thing i didn't like was the story beginning from the end,it kinda ruins the story for me but i guess a lot will pass before we reach that point ,or just when what we saw starts to matter at all.
-
I'll be honest. I do like Boruto's concept as a character. He is pretty much a contrast of his father (genius, actually has friends and living parents, respected by the village, no interest in being a Hokage). He also has tons of similarities with Hinata too (wants approval from his father, has a younger sister with a bigger potential than him).
Too bad the execution is not as good.
-
wait a minute
annoying main character, "this is my story", daddy issues, blond hair
!
good god no
-
If it wasn't the 4th time that Konoha gets attacked/destroyed it may have been a better set up
-
Pretty sure that the technology is going to be a big part of why "Ninjas are on their way out". I'm already getting Shady vibes from that scientist guy.
Kinda felt sad knowing Naruto died in the inevitable conflict. Maybe because I just finished re reading part 1 and god damn it was some good shit back then.
-
Months of boruto movie rehash, yay. New artist and writer proofed they can trace and copy from a movie. :ninja:

Jay from Kumo wasn't bad. Neither was his poor lizard.

Very funny. But how come, you remember the guy, his name and his lizard?
-
It's going to take a while to get use to that new art style, Kishi was always good at drawing.
Most of it is a retread of the movie, but those first few pages are interesting.
-
-

This discussion about Sasuke not killing anyone bad comes up every couple of years. Over the years I made it my mission to keep the memory of poor Jay (and his lizard) alive.
-
Hahahahahahahaha no.
He's no Oda, but the art was always consistent. I never had a problem with Kishi's art.
He actually did backgrounds unlike Kubo.

Very noble of you. I am impressed.
-
Hahahahahahahaha no.
I do think Kishi has good art too (outside of faces).
Doesn't make up for his awful writing though.
-
He's no Oda, but the art was always consistent.
It was consistently mediocre and lifeless, yes.
He actually did backgrounds unlike Kubo.
I don't give credit to people for doing things they should be doing in the first place.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Kishi's art use to be great, back in Part 1, when things popped more, the action was dynamic, there was depth and shading, and there was some real creativity. Part 2 is...presentable. Occasionally he does something kind of interesting, but there's just no life to anything and it all looks flat and boring (and lest we forget the confusing action sequences).
-
The art was never the issue with Naruto, though its true that it was only interesting in the few first volumes.
It always made me think if Kishimoto was really trying with the series or if simply stopped caring after striking gold the first years. Bigger shonen artists have fallen into boredom after a long career (names like Toriyama and Takahashi to say some are creatively dry since years ago) but for Kishimoto to be so lazy for most of his career must be a first.

Different strokes I suppose. Out of all the issues with Naruto, the art was never one of them for me. Was it eye popping amazing? No, but it was good, solid, decent, presentable as you say.

These 2 pages especially i fondly remember them for how cryptic they were:

in fact re-reading the Fourth Great Ninja War is really just a gold mine of awful panels and pages with incoherent flow

It really doesn't help that it's mangapanda scans, so everything is just a blotchy mess anyway.
-
Viz scans aren't that much better.
-
I also always thought that the art was okay in most places and feirly good in others. But I especially liked some of the character designs like the Sage form for Jiraiya was kinda amazing when it first appeared. With Naruto it devolved into something much blander but still.
And the fourth ninja war was a decline in quality in all aspects and the art didn'thold up at all anymore -
For Naruto's art, my favourite was at about the Sand Invasion arc. Detailed and full of action.
Say what you may about the Pain Arc, the paneling was great. Made the flow of the fight a smooth read.
But the war arc… is a good exercise for the eyeballs. I like being nice.

The only bad thing about Pain arc is that it reminds me of anime version of it.
-
And the ending of the Pain arc of course. But honestly the Pain fights against Naruto and Jiraiya were the reason that I kept reading after that laughable Itachi vs Sasuke Fight.

Oda's art is no big deal too….He likes to put more details, that's all.
