That was fucking fantastic.

Season 5 is officially upon us! And what a way to kick things off!
-
Damn that was actually a pretty awesome start to season 5
-
Better on a second watch and I loved Tolkien's lines. Martin wasn't bad himself but I think I need to read/watch his stuff to fully appreciate it.
-
YES!!!! Tolkein killed it!!
-
Ok, I'm currently reading the Song of Ice and Fire book series by Martin for the very first time and I'm on the second book…..does this rap battle spoil anything like character deaths etc? Should I better first finish all the books before I watch it?
-
If you can recognize the characters from the TV show, there might be a little spoiler right at the beginning.
-
you even stole my R.R.
we don't need the story of every fucking tree branch
Its a tie.
But yeah J.K. Rowling has the J, Martin has the R.R. Both successful.
Illuminati confirmed. -

Illuminati confirmed.OMG, J.R.R. Tolkien before his death split up his soul into two and was reborn as George and J.K. Rowling. :ninja:
-
George Lucas vs Gene Roddenberry seems like a no brainer.

Both of them are Horcruxes. :ninja:

Oh dear lord what an annoying voice that lady had

Same as IRL, I guess. She had some sick punchlines though!
-
Eh, I thought this one was very lacking.

Guess it was from a different time.
One where you could get on TV even with a cheese grater voice.

Her show was entertaining - who cares 'bout her voice? You get used to it.

It absolutely matters if you are supposed to listen to her for long stretches of time.
That's not a slam on her capabilities as a cook, it's about making a show enjoyable to watch.

Her voice doesn't disturb me that much, and it must have been the case for all the people who used to watch her show.
Besides, Mamrie Hart interpreted Julia Child in an inaccurate way.
Her real voice isn't that irritating:
This intro was excellent, if not, the best one I've seen in an ERB. The lyrics match the instrumental perfectly, the background changing was nicely executed. The general rhythm was fluid, too.
-
Well, I too could hear her voice everyday long. Both of them had pretty awesome lines imo. Didn't expect TV cooks though.
-
it was a balanced battle, julia child won but gordon had the best line
-
Yeah! Go Julia! She's a cherished alma mater from my college.
-
Ramsay had a really strong second verse with the "Mastering the Art of Heart Disease" line but Child won with her "Pissiest Bitch in the Kitchen" line.
-
New episode, ahoy!
-
Eh…neither Jefferson nor Douglass seemed to flow that well. Also I find it a bit difficult to connect the two other than slavery and the battle seemed to be mostly Douglass dissing on the Constitution while Jefferson just seemed to try to save himself from the blast as best he could.
-
Yeah I liked some of lyrics that it put out, but I agree in that I'm just not feeling the connection between the two.
-
I wasn't feeling this battle at first, but after a couple rewatches, I'eve really started to like it.
Jefferson won, of course. The connection between the two I guess is one owned slaves and freed a people from a great power (Americans from Great Britain), while one was a freed slave and helped save a people from a great power (African-Americans from White Americans).
Also, it seems really lame, but that final diss was brutal.

Kind of, yes it's that they were both people heavily involved in some fashion with slavery, but also that they were both major writers in relation to the concept of liberty/freedom.
-
"Straight outta bondage!
A brainy motherfucker here to diss you!"Loved that line.
Jefferson won, in my opinion. Better flow and better lines.
-
Douglass definitely won. Jefferson had a killer opening but then played defensive the whole second half. Most apologetic "battle" they've done yet.
-
The battle didn't really feel like a battle as Jefferson quickly concede his opponent's point. They tried that formula with Satan Lee but it worked thanks to disney appearing at the end. I hope this does not become a gimmick.

Who did you want appearing at the end of this one? Jefferson Davis?
-

I wasn't looking for someone appearing at the end. Simply that one side wouldn't just kinda give up. I used disney because that's the one I can remember them trying it more recently. And even then it was more to put both Stan & Henson against Disney rather than a free for all.
They usually keep their new trick for some times , I just hope that new one don't stick around or gets better.
-
[hide]heh at Connery!Bond[/hide]
-
That was pretty funny and had a unique dynamic at the end…I'm sure it was referencing something that I didn't get.
-
Shoulda made it between all the Bond actors.
-
I'm a little surprised they used Austin Powers. He's kinda faded into the background by now.
-
If anyone was wondering if the 60's Bond sex scenes were ever sometimes rapey.
The answer is a big yes 0_o -
I didn't hate this battle, but I certainly didn't love it.
Ramsay vs Child is still my favourite of the season.I did love the portrayal of Connery, though.
-
-
An alright battle. I really didn't like how shortchanged Hulk was at the end though…Caitlyn got double the lines he did.
-
Mmm, I kinda get what they were going for, but I feel like this is one that's not gonna hit people the right way. There's probably better people they could have paired with either of these two with a much stronger result, thematically as well as content-wise.
-
16 886 dislikes… wow!
It wasn't that bad. -
Battle made more with an intent of a message than to make a good battle, and that's something i hope will never happen again.
I get the intent, but this is not the right way, also, the execution was lacking because of it.Hope this doesn't generate the same thing of reactions the new ghostbuster movie did, with people calling EVERYONE who didn't like it sexist, regardless of the actual merits (or lack of thereof in that case) of the work in question.
-
As someone who recently came out as transgender… that was kind of uncomfortable.
I get the joke, both rappers are named Bruce and have grown through "transformations". Just kind of hard to swallow that, and I don't think the execution was done super well either. I'm not offended, but more just uncomfortable about the potential implications.
On a side note, the amount of Transphobia in the comment section is making my stomach turn.
-
I liked it, and the comments are indeed dreadful, but the Kylie Jenner line really irked me. maybe because its the Hulk saying it, but its just creepy

It's always a good idea to stay away from the YT comment section.

Call me immature, but I loved that line. One of the best parts of ERB is its willingness to push the limits in terms of decency and political correctness, and it usually pays off. But this season they have kind of taken a step back in Jefferson vs. Douglass as well as this one, preferring to say "We're not racist/transphobic!" instead of the humor they've been well known for.
-
Definitely my least favorite rap battle of them all. At least that I can think of off the top of my head. Wasn't interested going in and I just zoned out halfway through. That Hulk got screwed on how many lines didn't help either.
-
I dug the first half, but the second half was so lopsided it kind of sank the whole ship. It's too bad cause the music is great as always. I wouldn't have minded them giving Katelyn the "rap circles around them" spot but it, like the Jefferson v/ Douglas, felt like they were preaching more than dissing. This is a rap BATTLE, not a rap therapy
