The CG looks fine, I don't get the ridiculous backlash.
Giant armies, elaborate armor, makes sense to me, same reason you CG out mecha shows.

I don't care about CG or not. It has to be decently good looking and telling parts of the story that are not animated yet. That's all it take for me to give it a shoot.
I think that the thread title should be (sadly) modified
I always run into this gem, and I need others to see it finally.
Great video. And it's especially funny, cause it was released right before another lenghty hiatus, lol.
Well it looks like new Berserk anime project is a tv show. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-02-04/new-berserk-anime-is-tv-series-that-premieres-in-july/.98320

July… why must you be so far away?! Hopefully they are in it for the long haul and animate at least up to the conviction arc with this first season.
What a hiatus. At this point this miura is worse than GRRM when it comes to finishing a fantasy series lol. This will never finish as much as I like the show.
Also, golden age for best arc. Imo that's when the story felt the most human to me. As much as I enjoyed griffith storyline; i mean it's epic as hell. Not so much the new griffith though. I don't like his character.
Yeah, golden age for the best stuff like ever, but everthing after that is still well above average for sure, just not as good. Especially griffiths character, but his epic ass story makes up for it in some ways.
Looks good. I like how they're getting a crosshatching effect in the animation shadows, looks neat.
Long as it maintains some of the soundtrack from the old anime we should be good.
Shit, are we actually going to get into the Conviction arc? I need animated Mozgus in my life.
I never thought about what they'd look like in colour but Farnese, Serpico and moustache man look like they're part of a super sentai group
Don't like the walking animation, it looks so stiff. But I liked the shading effect, it feels very much like the manga. And lol those three do look like a sentai team.
…but honestly I would prefer news about the manga. It's supposed to resume in summer.

It's hard not to be when you see this
What are the chances they replicate this faithfully in the anime?
none I would say
To be fair, to replicate this level of detail they would need mad moneyz. xD

The chances might be better than you think. Anime usually has less of a problem with depicting Christianity in a negative way than US or EU tv series, because the Japanese are not culturally sensitive to all things Christian. Now the horse rapes scenes on the other hand I'm not so sure about lol

I meant Mozgus' face mostly.
Miura's art style is so intricate that it's hard to replicate it, let alone animate it. The use of CG is going to make things easier, but it's still not going to be easy to translate Miura's art style into the anime format imo.
Yeah I'm aware of that and I don't think it's just christianity. They're anti god if you will, some works even have forms of deicide (like Magi). So there shouldn't be a problem when it comes to portraying those events.
Now I would be thouroughly disappointed if rape horse wasn't included. That was a huge wtf moment but also one of the most powerful scenes, with the possessed dogs and Guts' line "They must be a miracle"… and then rape horse of course.
I'm just glad they're animating the arcs after the Golden age, I really love the lost children arc.Looking forward to the fight with Rosine.
Does it say how many arcs they plan to adapt? It would make sense to end with Griffith's rebirth.

They said before the movies came out that they want to adapt all of it some way or another… but who knows how much that'll actually mean.

If it's 24 or 25 episodes they will most likely skip some stuff, but since we don't know how far this adaptation would go I'm gonna say that at most they will adapt the blackswordsman arc and the conviction arc. I really doubt they'll adapt the Millenium Falcon arc this time around, so that should be for later. Maybe it will be like JJBA, each year or so they'll adapt a part of the story…but what happens when they catch up on the manga? Miura needs to release more material by then, not to mention that it's been a while since a Berserk volume was released.

They pick the most logical stopping point compared to where the manga is currently, and stop there. Same thing the HxH anime did.

Yeah to me that would be Griffith's rebirth, then if they plan a second season they can pick up right where they left off, which would be the Millenium Falcon, and then Fantasia. Although since it's not finished they might just as well stop at the Millenium Falcon.
I don't think they can cover all 3 arcs in just 25 episodes, they shouldn't rush it, and since MF is pretty long it should be saved for later imo.
Anyone mention that the new Anime is confirmed for July??!! Only 2 months to go!! This is gonna be the biggest thing of the summer alongside the new GOLD movie!!
So I'm confused. I thought they planned on adapting the entire manga through the movies That's why the 3 movies came out that covered the golden age arc.
I hope they get to animate falcon arc eventually as that's the best arc after golden age. I didn't mind cgi in the movies. I think it can surpass hand drawn 2-d stuff if done right.

I think the movie trilogy acted as a reboot, so instead of redoing the '97 anime, they could condense it. For me personally, i've been waiting 15 years for the events after the eclipse to be animated, but I doubted it ever would ever happen due to the subject matter and content. The Conviction Arc was what really caught my attention because you had the surreal and macabre art following the eclipse and the strong story and character development of the golden age.
At this point I can't quite gather whether this anime will include the 8 Black Swordsman chapters and then move onto the Conviction arc, or if it will omit them.
Possibly we'll get some kind of recap of the Eclipse, followed by the events of chapters 89-94, but then chronologically, we should go back to the first 8 Black Swordsman chapters, before continuing onto the chapter of the the lost children (95), binding chain and then concluding with the birth ceremony (176).
That's the best part of 100 chapters and would likely take 40/50 episodes to adapt properly. Considering we can only expect 13 this season i'm not sure how this is going to pan out. Especially since we've seen Isidro in the anime previews and he doesn't appear until chapter 133!!
They had previews of the later characters in the movies too. Them doing up a half second of footage to hype something that won't happen for a long long time isn't beyond them.
Anyway, they never said it was going to be all movies, just that they wanted to do all of it, but weren't sure what form that would take. It was always assumed they'd run through the recap material theatrically and then go for an ova or limited series format of some sort.
I clearly remember it was something along the lines of 3 movies and a potential series if things go well in the few very first announcements 1-2 years before the first movie got released.
Black Swordsman can easily fit as the beginning of the series then we get a quick recap/flashbacks as said before.
In reality the Golden Age Flashback isn't needed. They can just do the Black Swordsman arc and go to the lost Children and everything will be OK. If anyone that doesn't know the series wants to know what happened in the past in detail, they can just go to the movies, or the old anime.
I think this series season will end with Guts being captured by the Holy Knights. Depending on the popularity of it, they than can do further seasons.
Well by flashback i didn't an episode or anything like that, i can just be a bunch of scenes referencing the movies since in the Black Swordsman there are quite a few moments where Guts looks like he's remembering the past.
how is golden age not needed. It's an integral part of the story.
It's not needed because it was already covered in the movies
how is golden age not needed. It's an integral part of the story.
Because is a flashback further explaining what happened with Guts. Out of it there are enough references and talk about what happened in it, making it possible and still enjoyable to place the Golden Age in various parts of the story. In the beginning like it was made in the first anime and movies. After the black swordsman arc like in the manga. After the lost children arc when the holy knights find the sight of the eclipse or the arc after with them. Is even possible to place it after the incarnation ritual or even later.
So not only we already have the 1st anime and the movies covering the Golden Age, but that arc can be placed later.
Why the hell would you want Golden Age to be animated AGAIN? We've already gotten it twice, one of those times extremely recently. Lets get some new content.
Anyone watching the show is going to know, or can be told, "Hey, go watch the movies" and they're set. Its within the same basic timeframe and production cycle.
It's not like the HxH anime where there were like 15 years and different studios separating the outings.
Berserk is returning as a monthly series on June 24.
Important piece of news is the update that when it comes back, it will truly be monthly and not irregular.
How long that lasts, remains to be seen.
Either way…WOOT, more Berserk!

last time it was monthly too,but went to hiatus after 5-6 chapters, expecting the same again.

It's kind of worrying that we haven't really gotten much relating to the lost children arc yet, it's nearly all just Conviction arc stuff. Bad CG I can handle, no nipples fine but no lost children arc would be heinous.
I dunno, even in the manga the Lost CHildren is a little filler-ey. What everyone wants to see after 20 years is the new cast being formed.
And sure, Butterfly demon girl is cool and all, but she's not terribly interesting. Its a nice brutal fight at the end with one of Guts' nastiest wounds (that stinger through the cheek makes me wince every time) but… we're never going to get the Devil Dogs either.
Also, we seem to be skipping the first black swordsman arc that starts the series.
If it was going to be a forever spanning anime that was going to go for 150 episodes, then yeah, we should get everything. But it's probably just another 26 episode deal so... we need to take what we can get.

I think it would be very detrimental to the series if they skipped over both the black swordsman arc and the lost children arc. If this new anime is riding off the back of the golden age arc films it's important to see effects the event of the film had on Guts by seeing him at his lowest. As the revenge fueled monster who mindlessly kills any demons he comes across during these arcs. It makes his turnaround all the sweeter when Erica confronts him about his selfish behaviour and he sees how Ricken has moved on from the past and he realises what an idiot he'd been. As much as I'm looking forward to seeing Gut's new party come together I think it's also important that we see why Gut's needs his new party, and I think the Black swordsman arc and Lost children arc are important in showing us why. So it would be nice to get at least one of them in there even if they condense it a little bit. If only it weren't constrained by 26 episodes.
Also I'm a huge fan of the lost children arc and re-read it all the time so I'd be super salty if they cut out my favourite little arc. I was already disappointed that we didn't get to see Jill in Falconia
This is gonna make DBS look like a masterpiece.
Lost Children is part of the Conviction Saga, why are they skipping it?
Is there any confirmation on an episode count yet? I can't imagine it being 13, I'm assuming it'll be like 25 right?

Lost Children reintroduces the non-Golden Age world, and introduces Serpico, Farnese and even Azan.
Lost Children was sort of damage control arc to revamp the Black Swordsman angle after Muira had developed him so much over the flashback. It's a better beginning for Guts and Puck than the uncharacteristically cheap and pulpy Black Swordsman arc.
But if they're skipping the first thing entirely, then that changes the overall need of things in terms of tone and setup for Lost Children to rework and re-setup.
It's a good arc, don't get me wrong. But depending on how many episodes we have? I can see why they'd skimp on it and just cover the key introduction notes. Same reason Wyld didn't make it to either adapation of the Golden Age arc.\
Did Serpico and Farnese really show up that early? It's been a long time since I last read it, I should probably take another crack sometime.
Doesn't Guts get arrested by Farnese team after his fight with the bee-girl? Thus being the first introduction to Farnese and Serpico characters?
Farnese, Serpico and Azan are introduced before all that, right at chapter 95.
I think the premise of the whole Retribution story as sort of restart for the main story after the long flashback makes it too long for what it's meant to be. Isn't it like 8-10 volumes before Giffith is back, things start moving again and we have the new main cast group assambled? I always thought the story was moving at the slower pace vol. 13-23 than it did before and has since then. Maybe that's why Lost Children it has a sort of fillerish feel to it for you, Robby.

But the lack of the Black Swordsman arc makes Lost Children even more important then.
Because now there's no introduction to the post-Golden Age world at all.
Going right from it into the Albion arc seems really really awkward.
Did Serpico and Farnese really show up that early? It's been a long time since I last read it, I should probably take another crack sometime.
They show up really briefly before the Golden Age totally ends, they're investigating the sight where the Eclipse took place and find a lake filled with blood and dead Hawks.
Then yeah they show up during the Lost Children arc, as they've been hunting down Gutts, at the end they pursue and capture him. He meets and clashes with Farnese and Serpico during his escape from them. Also Azan.
In fact I don't know how it's possible to even have the Albion arc without establishing their relationships in that part.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I think the premise of the whole Retribution story as sort of restart for the main story after the long flashback makes it too long for what it's meant to be.
You say this like someone completely disinterested in the Black Swordsman aspect of Gutts lol.
Which subjectively I find bizarre, since that part of Gutts is interesting and seeing him slowly emerge from it is cool and good. Also the arcs are cool and full of great classic Berserk moments.
Objectively its still important! If you're hyperfocused on the (definitely not fast paced) stuff ever since it ended….its because you even know and give a shit who half those characters are based on the developments and introductions they have during Retribution. None of them make any sense without seeing how they got there in the first place. The whole Beast side of Gutts doesn't make any sense without seeing him living that reality day to day as we do in Lost Children and somewhat in Albion. Farnese...who the heck is she if we don't see her transformation from nasty brat inquistor to softened desperate Farnese as we know her after Albion.
Her obsession with Gutts (beyond the romantic angle) is based entirely on the Albion events.
And of course Griffith's return.
