Honestly a lot of people keep saying if all might dies bakugou will go villain. That won't happen because his admiration for all might is almost the same as deku's. Bakugou wants to surpass all might while Izuku wants to be like him. If all might were to die and Bakugou were to go villain then his admiration would be weak.

If anything Bakugo would want revenge vs the villain alliance

At least, for me, Bakugou doesn't admires AllMight, but instead he admires that hero that doesn't have fear, and a hero that has the power and the guts to go against a bunch of villians at the same time. Also, admires that That hero has the skills to surpass them.
So, for me, this chapter gave me some bad intuition, because heroes are going to go all out for the villains. And, if, for example, shigaraki get outnumbered and kills AllMight and get victorious, Bakugou is going to see him in another way and his admiration could change
-
Yea, I get the feeling All Might's going to look bad in this arc. Maybe he'll die or he'll show his uncool side to everyone.
-
Everything's set up for some kind of Big incident. All Might is in the warpath just add Deku is doing something unquestionably stupid.
My personal theory is something will happen to Deku that can only be resolved by completing the One For All transfer, which will kill All Might.

That still won't make him a villain because that reasoning would be weak. His admiration for all might wouldn't change because, like I said, Bakugou wants to surpass all might with his own power. He wouldn't need to be a villain for that. If anything bakugou could be a anti hero.
Also another thing I wanna point out is remember how he lost to deku. He didn't necessarily change his ways but Bakugou said that deku better not think about beating him again. That shows that even though he lost he still wants to become stronger so that he won't loss to deku again. In this case even though his greatest admiration had lost he would just have to get stronger than that with his own powers.
-
I don't like the kids going after Bakougou. I think it bothers more than in other manga because of the "realism" of this society. From those going I'm disapointed from Deku, surprised by I&F and baffled by the class president. At least I can appreciate that they know they are trying to confort their ego and will "try" to avoid battle.
I'm really questioning how All might transformation works. Didn't he complain he could only do 15 minutes of heroism a day which were reduced after he saved the kids the first time? Can he do strategy meeting and transportation in that form? Will he last the necessary time for the mission?
At this point Yuei have failed so many time at keeping the kids out of the dangeous stuff that it becomes Hogwarts.
-
Overall good chapter. I am quite pleased with Bakugou's character, but we're still not out of the woods yet. AFO has not made his move on him just yet, and that will be the deciding factor whether or not Bakugou will become Vegeta 2.0 in this series. Paying attention to his words about AM, the best way to destroy him to his very core is to show how weak All Might is. Adding that Deku is his heir is just a bonus.
@Zar:
I'm starting to wonder if All Might will survive this arc. I'm also getting worried for Deku's mom, if anyone ever wants to harm Deku she's a prime kidnapping target.
Otherwise, the disguises are adorable. I love how the author didn't just chose random outfits, and instead gave each character something that fits them in a bizarre way.
With Horikoshi stating that he is most inspired by Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy, then Mrs. Midoriya is definitely high on that list. The next one in line is Ochako (and maybe Iida). Though I'm sure she'd be kicking and biting whoever tries have a go at her first before getting taken down.
@MDL:
Bakugou keeps acting the way I want him to and I really appreciate it.
Especially because of the handful of people out there who were 100% convinced he'd say yes at the drop of a hat for some reason. And again, you miss the fact that what everyone's been talking about is how AFO will get thorough him not Shigaraki.

I didn't miss anything.
Read my post carefully.
"the handful of people out there"
Did I mention this thread? NO. Was I talking about the people in this thread? NO.
I literally mean the people I've seen elsewhere on the net, in their small but vocal number,
who expected Bakugou to straight up say yes to any offer that came his way, because they thought he was a fickle idiot. You're so quick to try and correct me that you aren't even paying full attention to what I even said. So cut that shit out.

Long time no see, everybody!
Just watched Episode 1 of MHA
It surprisingly only covered the first half of chapter 1, ending at the point where Izuku asks All Might if quirkless people can still be heroes. I suppose it's good that they're making scenes linger so the feeling can sink in. For example, I teared up during the emotional Izuku flashback but that scene always gets me. I feel like they could have made the cliffhanger stronger if they omitted the opening and ending for the first episode, though, I'm not sure what scene I would have finished the episode with.Speaking of the opening, it was average, nothing really very notable about it. Izuku moping about, being inspired by All Might, brief flashes of all the kids in 1-A, and then some budget animation for the USJ melee segment. I'd have preferred it if they went for a more iconic series-specific opening instead of generic J-pop, like the We Are of MHA.
The ending was basically just Izuku running. Also disappointing. The animation is good, but there's something lost in translation. I almost feel like Horikoshi's art is SO dynamic that it crosses back into being hard to anime-fy faithfully, if that makes sense. I appreciate the comic booky color palette, though.
I like All Might's and Katsuki's voice actors.
Can't wait for the next episode where it'll definitely give me the chills. There's no way you can fuck up that scene, it's just too powerful
-
I watched the RAW. I really liked that! I don't see a problem with the art's transition to animation. I especially loved the Comic-booky character introduction panels, it made the character introductions memorable. I don't mind that they took it "slow" at all, either. It makes all the characters even more memorable. The episode just reminded me how lovable all the characters are as a whole. Izuku, Izuku's mother, All Might, even Katsuki. His dickishness came across really well. Love the awful little shit.
Yeah, I have to agree about the genericness of the opening, but I really did love the action scenes in there, also two particular little moments - the transition of Deku and Katsuki into their hero outfits and their fight and at the end when Izuku goes from his unfiform to his hero outfit and then his fist exchanges with All Might's.
I also really like the ending song itself and also the stills of kid Izuku, even if most of the ending was him running.
-
I just watched the episode and loved it. It was the anime I was expecting the most and it didn't let me down.
Then again, I'm not much of a critic and I'm easy to please.
I like that they decided to divide the first chapter in two instead of rushing it. It also refreshed my memory about a few events of the manga. -
Rewatching with subs, character animation stuff stuck with me, one of the bullies at the beginning growing wings, young Izuku bobbing back and forth on the chair, also the hero fighting was really nicely animated and I really liked how they did the CG - it wasn't jarring and fit in.

Deku likes the morals about being a hero and he thinks All Might is representative of those morals, Deku is a shallow child that looks up to All Might because he is the top fighter and he wants to be the top fighter too.
Thats the kind of character the author has been building. Of course nothing stops him from giving Deku some last moment motives to not turn to the villain side, but that would only be bad writing at this point (and anyway what would be the point of the kidnapping then?)

I think think you mean mean McExplode. Deku is the protagonist.
He doesn't need some special motive to not turn villain. The villains have been losing for quite some time and the one that gets the admiration of the people are the heroes. If All might die, it would simply be a motivation for him to win against them and prove he is better. The guy has to much pride to willingly switch side, at least from what they are proposing.
-
Yes, I mean Bakugou on the second Deku.
Thing is the main problem that I have with Bakugou is that he is in the wrong story. If this were a sport or martial arts manga Bakugou's personality would be normal, even cliche for most shonen. But on a superhero series ,and one that takes so much inspiration from the american classics, he is completely out of place. Yet he is popular and the teachers at the academy or the other students dont see anything wrong with him (beyond him being a bit wild) which really sours the story for me.
-
Great chapter ! I laughed a lot and I really liked Bakugou's reply.
I'm in the side that can't see a reason for Bakugou to become a villain that would make sense. So, barring brainwashing, I don't think it will happen. As for the first episode, it was almost perfect IMO. The opening is great. The ending not really.
When I read that it might have only 13 episodes this time, I was worried they would be rushing through the first chapter but they're taking their time with the introduction which is great.
But if it's really 13 episodes, I wonder where they will stop. -
I have a feeling that it might stop right before the sports festival arc, judging by what they are showing in the opening. But yea overall I feel like the first episode was really good. It was well animated and well-paced. It was kinda surprising for me that they only did half a chapter for the first episode by I actually kind of liked it.

That's just plain untrue though.
The teachers acknowledge his potential, but they've also discussed his bad personality a lot, being a major point of concern in the latest exams.
The only time where he was shown to be "popular" was back at the Cavalry Battle for obvious reasons.
-
First episode was really good. I have a bunch of minor quibbles but overall it was extremely enjoyable.
Someone mentioned earlier that Horikoshi's style almost doesn't translate to anime well and I kind of agree. There were a few shots, like as Midoriya is entering the tunnel, that felt high quality and very reflective of the high-contrast style, but for the most part there wasn't a lot to distinguish it from other productions. Some of the little comic book nods were nice, though, like the use of Benday dots in the intro panels. Action looked pretty smooth too.
Midoriya's VA is on point but I'm not keeling Bakugou's. His voice is just…too thin. He comes across as having arrogance be his main attribute, where I would say his temper and ambition need to be. Would prefer it if his voice was a little growlier. All Might didn't impress me too much either. He's fine, but he doesn't feel totally larger than life. I would have liked a more booming voice, and maybe some visual or sound effects when he makes an appearance.
Opening was fine. Liked the visuals but the song didn't stand out. Ending was boring.
As for how far the first 13 episodes will run, based on the intro it's almost guaranteed to run through Chapter 21: the chapter of falling action following the attack on Yuuei but before the school festival.
-

They agree he has attitude problems but are very relaxed about it, they see Bakugou as a short tempered kid that needs to be watched over.
Its a bit how Endeavor is one of the top heroes and he is a complete asshole on his personal life. Maybe its a problem of a society with professional heroes and where hero values are not important anymore (just how Slain said) but when the whole story of the main character is about those values and about what means to be a real hero I cant help but see Bakugou as a dissonant note.
-
I really really like All Might's theme. Very American superhero-y.
Great first ep overall, the animations on Deku were a lot of fun and the art's mostly been captured well, but All Might's theme is my favorite part.
-
I really didn't expected the first episode to cover only half of the first chapter, but it was great! The opening and ending themes are also cool. Here hoping for a great first season and I can't wait to see the battles animated.
-
Damn! That was a mighty fine first episode!
It sticks to the manga's style so closely that it almost brings me to tears how good it is. Guess I should be catching up with the manga soon. I'm way behind, but I'd like to be caught up before the show reaches episode 13.
-
Texas Smash was excellent. Can't wait for more top quality adaptation from Bones.
-
Little Midoriya pacing back and forth on that chair was adorable.
-
Yeahh… I need a gif of that!!

Gifcam is a really good simple and free program to make gifs.

Midoriya's rapid-style repeat bowing at All Might was pretty great, too.

Great first episode been reading this manga since chapter 7 and since this is the second anime in which i read the manga first(fairy tail being first). I would have to say a solid 9/10 for the first episode(the ending was just crappy that's all i have to say). Well animated and the pacing is so good i love it so much. Lastly i would like to wish a good luck for MHA "PLUS ULTRA"!!!
Long time no see, everybody!

-
I liked the first episode. I was surprised at them not doing the whole first chapter, but it didn't feel slow at all. I guess I didn't realize how packed the first chapter was.
Yeahh… I need a gif of that!!
I saw this on NeoGaf:
Perfect hype gif really. There was also the flipside of that:
-
With the pacing Bones could easily has done 24 episodes and reach up to the Stain arc.
Rock solid first episode though.
-
Pleasantly surprised, definitely better than what I expected. But… 13 episodes? Will be animated halfway through the sports day thing, I assume.
-
I was very sceptical at first when I heard that it only covered half of chapter 1 but really that was the perfect spot to end the episode. Really the worst thing is that 26 episode shows aren't a safe bet any more and we just get a flood of 13 episode series or split cour shows nowadays. If only we could go back a decade because this is begging for 26 episodes right off the cuff. Ah well a season 2 is inevitably anyway but it still kinda sucks
-
This is just going to be a FUN series! I love all of the nods to actual comic books, and the style is about as close as it could be to the original. The bold lines in the opening are really making it for me, and I hope to see a lot more of that to come! How could you not love Deku or All Might either, they're precious!
-
Check out Bakugou with them Nike air forces
-
A new fan favorite shoe is born. But I shall remain loyal to Deku's shoes.
-
I've just watched the first episode and it was pretty enjoyable but…
Was anyone else bothered by how light-hearted the atmosphere was when Kacchan confronted Deku? I remember when I first read that scene in the manga, it felt really tense, especially when he asked Deku to jump off the building. Deku's meekness was seen as a pretty debilitating personal weakness.
The anime made his meekness a sort of punchline gag. It made me feel uncomfortable. -

All I really want are genderbent Mineta, Shigaraki, and All Might. Iida looks pretty terrifying though.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So I did some doodling and by my estimation episode 2 will be the rest of the first chapter and everything after that will be roughly two chapters per episode. The Bakugou-Midoriya fight will be episodes 7 and 8 and the USJ invasion will be the final five episodes, with All Might's showcase in episode 12.
Looking ahead, I think season 2 will comprise the Festival and Stain arcs with a focus on Todoroki and Iida, and season 3 will start with final exams and continue through the end of this rescue arc in a more Bakugou-centric season. Unfortunately, this will cause at least season 2 to be significantly more rushed (37 chapters compared to season 1's ~22) but I don't think the Festival carries enough plot to sustain a whole season, even if it is my favorite arc. Also, I think MHA will reflect a bit of GoT syndrome where the flashiest episode will be the penultimate one in the first two seasons.

I always thought it'd be super interesting and unique if either Izuku or All Might were female
