I don't think I've ever heard of jumpy story telling as a positive. I'm not sure to make of that. But eh. I'll guess I see how the story really panes out Saturday evening. It's sorta impossible for me now to go in without expectations. But hopefully it's MoS enjoyable and not Sucker Punch lame.

Well SP was awesome^^
It is actually not that jumpy to be honest. The first time it may feel that way, but its just a feeling.

Look, when you go from
I dont like the cheesy parts in BvS. They just dont work.
I expected an awesome Opening scene, like Watchmen 'times there are a changing', but it was pretty lame.
Weird editing?!?
Actually not much action O.o. Lets say 20 minutes of the movie…
Some unneccesary scenes, like the nightmare part.
The actual action wasnt that awesome o.O
I hate cryptonite, always did.
The whole ending is useless.
Jesse promised that the scene where he 'loses' his hair is the best scene he ever did. But he wasnt serious. He tricked me...to
Finished! BEST CBM EVER. Freaking amazing. I feel soooo sorry for the entire team that they have to deal with human scum. And for that dick move, i promise that i will never ever watch a marvel movie again. Them assholes
That's a 180, even if you "had more time to relax and/or get over the cognitive dissonance"

I told you guys Takto was Snyder

So I saw it…...ughhhh
I will post a review later when I process, needless to say it sucked monkey balls.

@Purple:

That's not the level of 180 a person generally has in a 12 hour period.
Often it can be you liked a movie in a theatre as it was going and then that fades and you like it less as problems set in, but its really rare that someone goes from super hating to super loving it within a day. That's just weird.
Oh yeah guys, also, I've decided that I can look past all the problems I've had with it and Man of Steel is now my favorite movie and I'm buying it on bluray tonight so I can watch it five or six times.

I feel so bad for him tbh.
I feel worse for Henry Cavill. Ben will be able to walk away from this with his career intact and more money secured in his pocket. Henry? He might have a rough career after this.
Back when it was Brandon Routh, it didn't bother me that bad because (I knew BR before he became Supes) he was so full of himself. He was a soap actor who thought soaps were so disgusting and beneath him that seeing Superman Returns fumble so bad, I didn't feel bad. Henry is so charming, grateful, and sweet… I feel awful. He doesn't deserve this. Amy Adams, Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg. They should be able to walk away from this with no issue. Not so much for Henry. Or Gal Godat for that matter.
-
I dont like the cheesy parts in BvS. They just dont work. I was more into the characters the second time. So i could relate somehow. The first time i watched it, i always felt uncomfortable when they were about to kiss eachother. But luckily they kept it short. Also, i watched it in english the second time.
I expected an awesome Opening scene, like Watchmen 'times there are a changing', but it was pretty lame. Yeah i heard somewhere that the opening scene is amazing. I also heard that the ending is some kind of photo montage like Watchmen. So clearly i was disappointed, because that never happened^^. But the opening scene is kinda beautiful, though.
Weird editing?!? Like i said, the second time it felt awesome, amazing even.
Actually not much action O.o. Lets say 20 minutes of the movie….Its not much action but it is enough, tbh.
Some unneccesary scenes, like the nightmare part. The second time i understood why they happen. Them are setups i guess for the Justice League. But they actually dont need to be in the movie, tbh.
The actual action wasnt that awesome o.O.I was disappointed how they resolved Batman vs Superman and also how they beat the last enemy^^. But its actually totally fine. I expected a finisher from Superman, like a brutal punch or something like that, but we get something else.
I hate cryptonite, always did.I can deal with it now, because they didnt exaggerated it.
The whole ending is useless. Well, while it isnt as awful as the first time, it kinda wasnt necessary. But only if he doesnt stay that way…
Jesse promised that the scene where he 'loses' his hair is the best scene he ever did. But he wasnt serious. He tricked me…Expectations, i expected something else after Jesse gave that statement^^But see for yourselves. Despite those points, i also mentioned 'great scenes'. So i wasnt that disappointed.

Cavill recently said he only acts for the money so let's not feel sorry for him. Affleck has actually spent many years proving he is a great actor and filmmaker and now he'll be at rock bottom again.
With Gadot I already feel she is punching far above her weight tbh.

Basically "I lowered my expectations so it was the best movie ever" is what I'm reading

But hey man, if you enjoyed it, you do you. Just stop throwing a tantrum every time someone says something negative about the film

Gonna hit the sack and process this. But before I do, let me describe Luthor's character in a nutshell
! He makes a woman drink his pee and blows her up with a suicide bomber, that's a move so low brow, even the joker would find that tasteless.
With that I bid you adieu.

Alfred was the MVP of the film. Really good portrayal.
Surprised how I was able to roll with some of the stuff brought up in this thread, including, to a small extent, what I was bothered by yesterday.
-
Cavill recently said he only acts for the money so let's not feel sorry for him.
Well, that's slightly misleading. He said, "“I’m slightly wary of saying this, because it can be frowned upon, certainly by members of my community and people outside my community but I’m not just doing this for the art. The money’s fantastic and that’s something which I deem — and again, it is frowned upon — very important.” So, yes, money is an important factor in why he does his job but it's not just about the money.
-
…...................... yeah, I am never watching this movie.
I've basically hit this point too. I'm good. What did me in was knowing why Batman and Superman ultimately fight.
[hide]Batman is on edge because Robin was killed (I think it's supposed to be Jason, not Dick). So now, Batman his killing criminals. So that woman who drank the pee was a politician who was questioning Superman. The bomb blows up, killing the politician (AND MERCY… Yes, Lex Luthor kills his own body guard). Superman survives the explosion. Batman believes that Superman caused the explosion in retaliation.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor kidnaps Martha Kent. Lex begins sending pictures to Superman of Martha bound and gagged with the word 'Witch' on her forehead because he is going to burn her alive if Superman doesn't do what Lex demands: Lex wants Superman to confront Batman. ...And Superman agrees.
And this leads to the fight.[/hide]

God fuckin' damn that Flash cameo.

@Cyan:
God fuckin' damn that Flash cameo.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
-
@Cyan:
God fuckin' damn that Flash cameo.
I enjoyed the Aquaman one, though. It was just a moment of "Wow! Aquaman gets to be shown as awesome for two seconds instead of being the 'lame superhero' that everyone thinks he is."
Considering that the rumor mill is saying that 'if this movie doesn't break the 1 billion dollar point, the Aquaman/Cyborg/Lantern Corp films might get axed', I am severely worried and deeply hating this film.
-
There's two Flash cameos.
One is with everyone else's, and the other is part of Bruce's Darkseid/Injustice Gods Among Us dream. It's really random and surreal, and I'm not a fan of what little I saw of his costume.

! I'm just imagining now that every incarnation of Lex Luthor ever; Gene Hackman Luthor, Kevin Spacey Luthor, Clancy Brown Luthor, the Luthor from Young Justice, and all the comic book Luthors, have been secretly peeing in people's drinks. And it's cracking my shit up.

What a world when Venture Bros has a more accurate representation of Lex Luthor than this movie

! this is what I was talking about earlier. Killing bad guys goes against what Batman represents. But for a DC interpretation of him to turn this way due to a Robin incident along with decades of fighting Gotham bad guys jading him? That I can get and get behind, even if it betrays Batman. The branding though seemed excessive. Maybe the incident with Robin involved branding in some way, but branding criminals seemed out of line, moreso than the killing. Gun using also, but I'll roll with it for not really going into the Batman mythos in the film itself so open interpretations okay. It's the stupidity of the rationalization of "needing" to kill Superman which is stupid, along with a whole bunch of other things.
! The other bit I'll say about the fight though is that they really didn't need to fight. Maybe Superman was angry after the first few attacks Batman tried, but all Superman needed to do was explain the situation and Batman probably would've sided with him. But nope. We promised Batman v. Superman and we gotta deliver. -

! Luthor was the Joker though. Eccentric and wanted to watch the world burn. I don't know how else to justify his grand plan and the ending of the film otherwise. It's just that unlike the Joker, we know his stupid rationale why.

Joker pressed a brand, imprinting a 'J' shaped scar, on his face.
Granted, I don't think Arkham Knight could possibly change the entire mythos, but it's an interesting similarity.
And yeah, people who haven't even seen the movie are like, "Obviously these two are fighting for stupid shit. Why don't they just talk it out?"[/hide]
-
Why don't they just talk it out?
I hate when people bring this up. Oh, people are rational and logically creatures by nature, if they'd only talk to each other…!

@Cyan:

The movie though really wrote it in such a way though that the fight scene doesn't flow well because there should have been more talking.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should bother avoiding spoilers for this movie.
Meanwhile:
Now THIS is a DC movie I'm looking forward to seeing.
With Gadot I already feel she is punching far above her weight tbh.
I still don't understand how the hell she got cast.

My god, every time I check that RT score and it's higher than it once was, I'm always like, "Oh, I guess that swarm of bad reviews are over. Here come the good ones."
But no. I check back every time that happens later, and it drops back down. At 30% atm.
-
The high point of the movie was in the opening credits when Bill Finger was given his due for once.
Also maybe Batman going full Arkham on mooks, but only if someone edits the multiplier into the scene.
-
Can't wait for the scene where Bats sprays explosive gel on the floor and explodes it while the goons fight him.

Twenty-minute sequence of Batman just playing leapfrog with the mooks.

I actually….don't really like any of the LEGO games or movies where the characters can talk (even though I really want dimensions for DW I don't want to pay for it). I thought the games where they had to mime their actions and the comedy bits had to be creative because they had no dialogue really charmed me and I really enjoyed the older LEGO games. I tried to watch the LEGO movie....I just couldn't get through it. I found it....annoying?...I guess.
An example of what I mean is this. In the LEGO Star Wars games when a characte has a limb cut off they have a shocked look on their face but then either put the limb back on or it turns out it was in their sleeve. This is funny because it references an actual scene in the movie so SW fans find it charming and non-SW fans find the general idea funny because they are LEGOs. Something like that trailer though.....it's like it's "mockingly" funny and seems to appeal more to people who are not fans of the respective property and comes off as one of those YouTube videos where people make comedy bits with their toys (like Robot Chicken). My sister and brother-in-law find them hilarious but I can instantly tell they weren't made for me so I don't watch the LEGO movies.
Actually, it does bother me somewhat that the games had to go to voiced dialogue. I feel like they lose a lot of creativity there even though I understand it. It reminds me strongly of two of my favorite, slow-moving artists.
In the manga Glass Mask (ガラスの仮面), Suzue Miuchi had started the series in the early 70s.....and is still making the series today (people who complain about Togashi hiatuses have nothing to complain about when compared to Miuchi. HxH is even LONGER than GM). Although the series actually took place in "modern day" Japan, the 70s Japan is a lot different than today. The problem comes up, though, when modern conviences that you wouldn't even consider a second thought of (cellular phones, internet) CANNOT be included because it breaks the immersion. What did Miuchi do? She ignored the realism and just included modern technology out of nowhere and did not explain it at all (or that fashions change drastically in the middle of a storyline). It ruins my immersion, suspension of disbelief, and I feel like the creativity gets destroyed when this happens (I still love GM but I would have advised against it if I was her editor).
George Perez, one of the best illustrators/writers in comics actually addressed this issue when he was completing The New Teen Titans: Games. This was a story set in the late 80s that had been actually started at this time....but was delayed and eventually released in 2011. He talk in length about how hard it is to actually restrict your modern day knowledge and to think for your time and what you have to work with. They did not include modern technology in Games but as I had pointed out, it is obvious why the have dialogue in the LEGO games (it's easier to convey what you want). It doesn't mean I like it but I understand.
As a side-note: The BvS Batman and the LEGO Batman are both Batman. Both have a reason to be considered Batman and there is no way one can say that one is right and one is wrong.

Sure you can. There's a universal core to the character that has been refined and sharpened over the course of decades and thousands of stories. Comparing Adam West Superfriends Batman to Christian Bale is going to get you a radically different result because that's a full 40 years removed in terms of culture and what comics are supposed to be and aimed at, so you'll get an extreme difference there. But if you then take the 90's animated series and place it as a middle stopgap, it flows and completely makes sense.
but you put aside the sillyness versus the darkness, and you compare those to all the comics from the 80's, and the animated series of the 90's, and all the other adaptations you can think of… there is a core character there, a certain guideline that will waver some and change depending on the story, (especially if its a one off meant just to be a what-if without being concerned about others having to deal with the character being radically different) but for the most part is consistent and accepted as a certain way.
Superman has been a bit more consistent over the decades, the one from the ancient film serials and the black and white tv show still feels very much like the character of today (superdickery along the way aside) while Batman changes depending on the decade.
The character can be interpreted differently, used in different ways, but there IS a specific core there. It's why the "Batman doesn't kill" and "Superman doesn't kill" idea is so strong. Yes, you can point to him killing some mooks offhandedly in the Burton film or wielding a gun in the original comics or letting people die in the Nolan trilogy, but at his core, the character that has been refined and shaped and made the public ideal over decades and many many many creators, is a guy that won't kill his villains, that will try to save lives whenever possible.
Similarly, Joker can range from prankster to over the top SAW style serial killer, and both are legit in their own way, but one is closer to the core of what has lasted and worked for 75 years in a multitude of forms.
-
Well I just came back from seeing it, and I ended up really liking it.
However I do understand why some people do not like this movie. The flaws are pretty glaring, and what is the most disappointing is that all the pieces were there to have this be a masterpiece but there were some very poor editing and script choices that I put the blame solely on Snyder shoulders.
Affleck absolutely nailed it, Cavill was great. Hell I thought the cast was great….except for Lex, that was a total whiff.
There are more things to complain about but despite my issues it really did not take away from my enjoyment of the film. I give it a 7.5/10

Every time Takto makes a comment, I swear the thread resets to explaining, again, why everyone's so negative about this movie.
I feel so bad for him tbh.
This is even more hilarious if you see them both as acting in character.
I was gonna wait. I wanted to. But…

Maybe Superman was angry after the first few attacks Batman tried, but all Superman needed to do was explain the situation and Batman probably would've sided with him. But nope. We promised Batman v. Superman and we gotta deliver.
This, along with other comments, is really starting to paint the movie as
! a timid, first attempt at a Justice League movie, with a heavy focus on Batman and Superman.
It's not really a secret since they've been kinda alluding to that fact anyway, but this just looks like another case of DC pulling its punches.
! Luthor was the Joker though. Eccentric and wanted to watch the world burn. I don't know how else to justify his grand plan and the ending of the film otherwise. It's just that unlike the Joker, we know his stupid rationale why.
Don't worry, they'll retcon it and pretend they did it on purpose. Just like they did with Superman's city levelling in MoS.
All this negativity makes me sad, because I just realized that more often than not, stories from DC Universe come to mind whenever I think back on what good comics I've read over the years. You've got great characters and stories, DC! The actors aren't bad either (don't know what to make of Godot though)! Just… get a better director. And creative team, probably.

We just need to wait for TLC to come back :3

When you've had guys like Bruce Timm and Paul Dini and Alan Burnett pulling out fantastic versions of the characters for two and a half decades fairly consistently, over hundreds of episodes and movies, its hard to understand why you don't get them involved in the cinematic stuff at least some.
Have them do up the script and storyboards, at least.
-
I still don't understand how the hell she got cast.
I assume Fast Five and 6 had something to do with it…...much like Game Of Thrones probably helped Jason
Mamoa get cast as Aquaman cause lord knows it couldn't have been that Conan remake hardly anyone saw. -

Makes you think of that great episode of Batman: TAS where Adam West played an old Batman-like tv character.

I really enjoyed this movie, I've seen it twice and I've still liked it, although… I understand the people that have problems with it, it's not a perfect movie.
I went into the movie with really low expectations based on the reviews, but a thouroghly enjoyed it, I melted when a certain cameo came on screen. But you know, it may get better with WW and JL, this is our DCEU as of now, unless things get scrapped.
-
Pretty hyped for the box office reports though and then more hyped for the global numbers.

2/3 of "reviews" and comments of people anticipating the movie might have been out before the film released but the majority of actual ratings (audience giving it a number of stars) come from peope who actually saw the movie this month or at early screenings.

General Thoughts:
! Ok, so, I really liked several scenes. Affleck's Bruce Wayne is excellent, and he plays a good Batman, too (even if I really hate the way the suit looks this time around). Really, really enjoyed how similar Batman's character was to his portrayal in Miller's Dark Knight Returns (something I was hoping for from Dark Knight Rises). The branding was a little freaky, but I don't think it was entirely out of character. Also, I can't recall any scenes where he actually uses a gun with deadly force (other than his weird dream). Overall, Batman felt really good in this film.
! Unfortunately, Cavill's Superman is once again extremely dull and morose. Something I could get behind in MoS, but seems overdrawn in this film.
! The retelling of the death and destruction at the end of MoS but from a human's perspective was very powerful. I liked that a whole lot.
! But, in the end, the final fight seemed really contrived, and I pretty much hated Lex's character throughout the entire movie. Yeah, I get that Lex is supposed to be insane, but his insanity is supposed to be more subtle. He's far too Joker-esque in this, and it's really off putting. No one who acts like that in real life would get to such a position of power and prestige in the corporate world.Overall, I give it 4/10. Not terrible at parts, and some of the effects are great, but it generally left a really awful taste in my mouth. I won't see it again in theaters.
