I think the real question here is why isn't there a picture of Affleck in full Bat attire sitting down at computer and typing? Just thinking about it makes me giggle.

I'm not agreeing with Robby on Watchmen here, but getting an academy award for a movie about Hollywood doing cool and awesome stuff isn't that hard.
I'm guessing DiCaprio should take notes once he loses out on another Oscar.
-
I'll second Robby's opinion. Watchmen is a shallow, superficial facade of a movie. It's clear that the actual point of Watchmen as art whizzed right over Snyder's head.
-
The only thing that has ever truly stuck with me from the Watchmen was the intro "Times They Are A-Changing" sequence, and honestly, I think it's because it's the best part of a movie that feels like it had its soul drained otherwise.
-
Things that stuck with me from Watchmen the Movie:
- The intro
- Great casting
- Hollis's sendoff, even if it does miss the point
-
It's just that… he put the comic up on screen and gave it motion. No question about that.
But he failed to make it into a movie.
It's really hard to explain exactly what was missing, but... the heart of it? The pacing? Like the length of the story and the way it unfolds works in a comic because its in chapters and it has big chunks of supplemental material breaking up the parts and title pages and they're distinct bits, but on film that structure runs a little long and doesn't work quite as cohesively?
its frustrating because it was SO close and yet its closeness just made it even more jarring how much it missed. It should have been restructured in some way to better serve a film narrative... being SO close to the comic only heightened and pointed out its flaws and things it missed and what the director failed to notice even more.
It's in little things like the difference between Rorscarch scaling up a wall by climbing a rope... versus the movie where he ziplined straight up. Where a red flashing neon sign goes off to highlight a moment of violence. Things like that.
The song choices were all just... so so bad. They were all a bit... on the nose?
"Oh, here's a war scene, so lets use Ride of the Valkyries from Apocalypse Now! Here's a sex scene, lets use Hallelujah because thats about finding your soul mate!" Like... they were practically comedy choices for tone of music. Extremely shallow surface choices that were referential more than appropriate or the right mood. Stuff that a fan would dub over into a youtube video, designed to get a laugh. Even at the end of the film with "All Along the Watchtower" it's like... yes, that was in the book. For the words, not the music. As a narrator quote, not actual car music. But even there they screwed it up because it was the wrong version of the song! They used Hendrix instead of Dylan! (And yes, they had Times are a changing earlier in the film. All the more reason to bookend it...) -
Well, Ebert liked it anyway

But probably because it was his first time experiencing the story
-
Yeah, if you haven't read the book I totally understand liking it.

Yeah yeah, "Cracked, oh no!" old joke and all that. Still a pretty concise condensation of the whole thing, I feel.

I think he got a haircut.
That and Affleck makes him look tiny.

Skit was somewhat funny…certainly how people would react in real life I guess, lol. I mean we immediately would know who they are.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Real-Challenge-Superman-Faces-Batman-V-Superman-According-Zack-Snyder-115937.html Now i fully understand why supes appears to be/is grim. Zack actually went the realistic route. We all know what supes has to deal with. I guess some people also can relate. I guess Zack also can relate, because he is the most hated regisseur i know^^. Even though he is passionate and loves what he is doing.Btw, i really like the deleted scene with kimmel xD
-
Zack Snyder the most hated director you know? Even lower than people like M. Night Shyamalan? Or Michael Bay? Or Joel Schumacher (well… mainly for Batman and Robin and killing comic book movies as a whole for awhile)? Or Uwe Boll? Really?
And judging by how Supes was already pretty grim in MoS, I'm not sure it's just occupational burnout.
-
Hm…supes grim in MoS?!? I actually loved his depiction in MoS. I don't know if i would describe him as grim in it...no i wouldn't. Unsure, maybe scared also, because he had to deal with people whom were more or less equal in Strength. He never had to deal with something like that before.
-
When your movie and everyone in it lacks any sense of positivity, whether it be due to uncertainty, fear, or weariness, I'd say that's pretty grim.
Like not even a shred of Henry Cavill's charismatic personality and instead at most relying on messianic imagery to show "hey this guy's our savior"?

Chris Terrio, writer for BvS and Justice League p.1, says BvS is the middle movie of a trilogy of sorts and will be a darker tone than the other 2 movies. He expects Justice League p.1 will be a lighter tone and an uplifting one of sorts.

March 25th can't come soon enough.
-
Hey guys! You wanna see Batman v. Superman right now online? Like, all of it? Like basically the entire story sans like, the last 10-20 minutes worth?
-
Not really.
It's sad, I'm not actually that excited to see this.
-
Did a rainbow kill Zack Snyder's parents or something?
And that's why he now has a hatred for color and humor?
Because I just saw the sneak peek at "Wonder Woman" and I wasn't really left with any good impressions. More like "dark and gritty woman killing bad guys in a black and grey world."
-
The R-rated home release will contain 30 minutes of extra footage.

Henry Cavill goes into Times Square wearing a SUperman shirt. No one recognizes him.

Of course not. You're in color instead of desaturated monotone.
-
Think that just demonstrates how not famous Henry Cavill is more than anything else.

Pretty much I'd wager if Brandon Routh did the same thing no one would recognize him either.
-
Meanwhile Christopher Reeve couldn't go anywhere without being recognized.
-
Charlie Chaplin once entered a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest in Monte Carlo and came in third; that's a story.

Meanwhile Christopher Reeve couldn't go anywhere without being recognized.
I bet he wished that stopped being a thing after Quest For Peace.

Yeah, he pretty much isn't that famous. Not enough to be a spontaneous attraction just from walking the streets of NY without waving people over. It'd be a lot different if Ben Affleck tried this. Besides, people don't expect to run into celebrities on their regular commute through NY anyway so people aren't paying attention to that sort of thing which is a contributing factor to him not being recognized.
Christopher Reeves was seen as the iconic Superman for many years. People would have recognized him from many places in America without a doubt.
-

Which again I regret because I like him as an actor. I really wish he hadn't been given such a bad Superman. Can you imagine him in a more Reeve-ish Superman movie?

God Bless his soul.
Did you know Christopher Reeve and Robin Williams shared a room at Juliard? What a room that must have been.

Oh Yeah Superman Returns 2: Superman lifts more stuff.

I…. ok, I WANT this movie to be good... I really do. I'm a HUGE Batman fan. Seriously, as we speak I am wearing a Batman sports Bra under a Batman Tshirt with Batman bracelets on my wrists. I am FAR from a hater of these characters... I'm also in the subset of people who didn't think Man of Steel was irredeemably terrible, even if I think i'd still give it like a 6/10...
Ben Affleck appears to be one of the best things about this movie along with... surprisingly, Jesse Eisenberg... I'm liking what I've seen so far of his Lex actually, which is greatly surprising to me. After the casting, I was expecting to hate him, but he's been one thing I've actually liked from the trailers.
But liking two of the performances doesn't change the things I am worried about. I still think they're introducing too many characters, I still think the tone is too grim and dour, and I still think the plot is gonna be extremely predictable on its own, without the fact that they've basically told us how it goes already:
! Batman and Superman will fight for a bit, Doomsday will show up and they'll have to put aside their fight to stop him, Wonder Woman (And Cyborg, and Flash and whoever is involved) step in to help, they take him down together and end the movie as allies….
They can throw us some curveballs I guess, and the performances may carry the movie, but for right now I'm very uneasy about it.
I'll probably see it opening weekend tho, so…. who knows? Might be good.
-
Yes. After rewatching Young justice and Justice League Unlimited I don't want the movie to bomb either. But So far the worst parts of the trailer Lex and Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is hopefully just underwhelming in the trailers because they wanted to save her better scenes and relevance as a surprise. Lex will probably just be the one thing I can't get abroad on. It's too far removed from how I've always most remembered him. And he's not done in a way I find appealing in any aspect.

@Lef:
Can I be the fourth?
I am legit hyped.
LEF!!!! Where have you been! We've missed you!
I hope all is well. When does the movie come out for you all over there…you are still in Ukraine???
-
Well, at least the two of us are excited.
I'm excited for the rated R cut version of it.
-
My thoughts on the matter are probably only a very few cynical and/or disappointed people actually want this movie to fail. I mean, who doesn't want a good movie with some of their favorite fictional characters? I think the real contention is how much faith people have in this movie. Some people are really excited because they are legitimately looking forward to this movie and have been ever since MoS hit theaters and a sequel was announced. Some people are really reserved and unsure about the prospects of this movie being any good ever since MoS hit theaters and a sequel was announced. The latter don't want the movie to be bad but they wouldn't be surprised if they didn't like it.
Then, yes, are some that are just really disappointed in DC's general direction and character portrayals and would like for the movie to bomb and go down in flames so they never have to see their image of [insert character here] being continually ruined to them. This is no subtle dig at anyone on this forum because I honestly can't say where definitively anyone, besides me, fits into what category, or if they fit into a category at all. Also, I just don't care if someone else doesn't like the movie.
All I know is that come Saturday I know where I'll be at. I myself am a little reserved about Jesse's portrayal of Lex and what they're going to do with Doomsday. Everything else I have no reservations about and I'm pumped for next Saturday.

I've just reverted back to my lurking ways. Checking ap once a day or two.
Got myself tickets for 24th and 29th all IMAX 3d (even if I loath 3d), bummed to learn that the closest 70mm IMAX is two countries over (whatever that means truly I have no idea but I just know it won't be a full picture ) I still remain in the same location

I think this picture captures my feelings about Snyder really well. I don't hate him, I appreciate his enthusiasm and attempt to bring some,…. I don't know subtext or depth to a film, but dammit I hope someday you will succeed. Stop failing Snyder
! "Git gud, or else..."

So, I'm the only person who likes what Eisenberg has shown of his Lex so far? lol
-
Edit: ^Wait, looks like Lef doesn't have a problem with Lex. Maybe because their names are so similar.
So, I'm the only person who likes what Eisenberg has shown of his Lex so far? lol
Maybe on here, as far as I can recall, but someone else might speak up. My problem is every time I picture him talk all I hear is, "The red capes are coming. The red capes are coommminng~"
