Got myself Dark Souls on Steam for Christmas, but I'm playing it on my four year old laptop so things aren't exactly fast-paced. Any tips for either better performance or the game itself?

Just spend like 50 Fr. (around 46€) on steam for the first time ever
I've made a steam account one or two years ago, only installing Morrowind on it (it was impossible to find the english version of the game here). Bought mostly classics from series that I've played exclusively for years now, but decided that I'd try out some newer stuff, because playing elder scrolls and fallout forever gets dull after a couple of years, no matter how much I cherish them. It's gonna take a couple of months to finish some of these, but I still plan on picking up some acclaimed games after I'm done with this batch, probably Arkham Asylum and the other Batman games, Far Cry and the sequels, finally the MG games outside of Snake Eater, etc. If you have some recommendations please tell me, since I'm mostly clueless nowadays when it comes to gaming.Grand Theft Auto Collection
Fallout 1,2 and New Vegas
Classic Alien vs Predator
Skyrim + Addons
BioShock Bundle
UndertaleWinter Sale is crazy, I had no idea that was even a thing. Just shows how long I've been out of the loop. Might even get back to online playing at some point, need to add some people to steam though. Maybe Counter Strike, Team Fortress.
-
I've been playing World of Warcraft for a while now, but a bit more focused on it nor that a RL friend has started playing the game himself. He's got two characters, one to play himself and one he levels with a character I made. Since he's relatively new, having only played demo accounts before, I've showed him some of the things available in the game like pet battles and battlegrounds. Once we're high enough plan to do some dungeons.
Aside from that got Middle Earth Shadows of Mordor, the first Dark Souls, Rocket League and Default Dan via Steam Sale and partly with a $20 Steam gift card I got at Christmas

Wizorb. Breakout kind of game. See, I got it the last time I had Steam bucks to burn and I didn't feel like starting the games I got just now and figure I should start on the back log.
The no-1-currs list/recent games i got:
Life is Strange (Heard good things, like adventure games and this will be the first not-point-and-click adventure game I've played)
Undertale (…I said I'd try it when I had money)
Hand of Fate (it looked neat when Sterling played it)
Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone (I liked Reccetear and it was recommended and ) -
Just completed Drake's Fortune. I'm also midway through on Uncharted 2 and close to wrapping up the main story line in The Witcher 3.

Funny that i just started playing those games on ps4 myself.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Just started my third playthrough of TPP, and started Uncharted 1, The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne.
Heard some good things about the new transformers game so i might pick that up soon.

So, made some progress on my play list:
Just beat One Piece Unlimited World Red.
Honestly, was just a standardish beat em up with very little variety or stand out elements or anything. I DO think as a One Piece Filler story, it was decent. I liked the angle of the villain and especially what happens to Luffy during the final fights. Seemed like a uniqueish thing, and that alone makes me glad I played it… even if the gameplay was meh.
Right now I'm playing the following games on and off:
Bayonetta 2
Sonic Colors
Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire
Shin Megami Tensei IVand I'm playing Zelda: Triforce Heroes and Yoshi's Wooly World with friends. I Only play these gmes multiplayer, so only get to play them once a week or so.
After I beat the above games, next batch includes:
Dead Space
Sonic Generations
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D -
Adjusting to the bullet hell and not murdering nature of Undertale fills you with determination
-
I still have games like Fallout 4, Witcher 3 or Dragon Age: Inquisition that i have to finish/play some more … and i won't even start with my Steam-list which i've given up on ever finishing.
But now Story of Seasons finally got released in Europe which means the next days/weeks i will be working on my new farm.
-
Animal crossing happy home academy and new leaf,Pokemon x, and j stars victory
-
Was playing PaRappa The Rapper 2….................until trying to get cool mode.
-
I finally convinced myself to play Touhou 14.5 Urban Legend in Limbo, as a fighting game fanatic, this is a cool game, easy combos and hilarious specials.
Now is time to have fun with Koishi.
-
Currently playing Penumbra Necrologue. It's a fan dlc of the Amnesia games Apart from the dodgy voice acting of "clarence" so far it's very good and has the same feel.
After that it's Twilight Of the Archaic and then broken sword 5Oh also been playing Neverwinter but already it feels like I'm hitting the point where you have to spend real money. So that one is probably being dropped now by myself.

Went crazy with cheapy Steam titles over the holiday…
Apotheon (awkward combat but still fun)
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (fun fun fun)
Axiom Verge (putting the Meh in Mehtroid)
Dustforce (I will never be good enough to beat the really hard levels, but still enjoyed this one)
Toki Tori 2 (great mechanics but super hard)
Toki Tori (1) (way too hard for my tiny brain)...and about to start Guacamelee Super Turbo Gold Championship Whatever edition, finally.

playing chrono trigger on the snes for the first time and im almost done with it
im literally blown away by how good it is. its probably the best paced game ive ever played.
-
Played Soma for a bit. This game is great. Underwater scifi isn't used enough. And the game is well made too. I think I already like it at least more than Amnesia. Not sure if it outclasses Penumbra though. It's also a pretty beautiful game at times.
-
I've been shifting between Fallout 4, Wolfenstein The New Order, and LEGO Jurassic World
-
Started a shiny badge quest on my copy of Alpha Saphire. Very time consuming
-
My friends invited me to play Brawlhalla, so far I am really liking it, I just think that is a good game to play with friends, not solo.
And wow, Queen Nai is awesome.
-
More Soma. These enemies are annoying and kill the exploration feel the game seems to be going for. I just want to look around the environment but I can't because there's some roaming enemy that messes up my screen anytime I look at it or go near it. I still love it though but Frictional's next game should either make enemies less annoying or remove them altogether and focus on environmental dangers and more puzzles. It's still great though and the no loading screens really help the game feel like one long trek to the other side of the facility. I also love underwater sci-fi and that needs to be done more.
-
More Soma.
There is a mod that stops the monsters from attacking. I haven't played the the game yet, so I don't know if this is safe to use though.

Hm, I don't really want to use this on my first playthrough but it seems nice for a second playthrough. Thanks.

Glad I could help. Will probably do the same when I play it someday.

Still playing Dragon Age 3. 66 hours in now. Does this game ever end???
Awesome game, though. I don't know why i waited so long to get it.
Although … the heterosexual romance options for men are ... disappointing. I mean, Cassandra is okay when you get to know her a little better but i almost let my Inquisitor romance Bull or Dorian because i just like these guys a lot more. And i'd totally go for Scout Harding, if it was possible. -

She's only into girls, sadly.
Ohh! True, really thought you could romance her with both male and female Inquisitors.

I just bought Undertale, this can be the start of something great..or horrible..

I've been enjoying it. Definitely just play the way you want to the first time around, then try for the pacifist ending, then if you are up to it do the genocide ending. I just beat the genocide ending and all I can say is OMG.

XCOM-2, XCOM-2, XCOM-2. Played it literally every waking hour until now and it's the perfect sequel.
-
It took 3 hours but the Black Dragon (Chrono Cross) has finally fallen.

Let's have fun with Street Fighter V, if anyone has a steam account, feel free to add.
My Steam name: dreamofpepsi

Finally got around to playing XCOM 2 after having bought it a bit before release. It's pretty fun. It continues the trend of games running like garbage for seemingly no reason but at least it's a tbs game so it doesn't suffer as much. Still can't shake the feeling of it being dumbed down compared to the original (the 1993 one) and Apocalypse though.
On my first mission I ran my squaddie head on into a group of bad guys and she got killed. At least the game doesn't seem to be very forgiving so there's that.

Intelligent Qube
i love it. it's a puzzle game for ps1, basically the goal of the game is to destroy as much cubes as possible before they fall over the platform while avoiding certain ones and using others to destroy more.
it gets hard very early and i lost alot, after you lose it shows you the score as an IQ level. try it out if you like puzzle games. -
I just finished The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Overall I think it's a really good adventure game. It shines in the voice acting department, and is packed with all kinds of humor and references. The story is also decent enough, but I'm upset that it ended in some huge cliffhangers.
The only reason I can't wholeheartedly recommend the game is that it's rather buggy. Items sometimes don't combine the first time you try, or appear as a big question mark in the inventory instead of their graphic, and there's a fairly common issue where when a character speaks they sound distant and echoed. But the worst thing was when I tried to use a combined item and the game didn't register it properly, and it ended up rendering the chapter uncompletable. I almost gave up then and there, until I found other people who had the problem (a year ago!), and they'd figured out how to hack the save file in a text editor to undo the glitch. That's still an awful experience, especially since you don't always know if something was supposed to work or not.

I beat Ori and the Blind Forest a couple of days ago, and as a platformer it's pretty enjoyable, but that's pretty much it. Everything about it having a deep or emotional story is pretty much bullshit. In fact, I'm pretty sure the creators don't understand the first thing about storytelling or emotion.
Just bought this the other day (for $10 on Steam sale) and beat it yesterday. Remembered you made this post way back when and…yeah. Pretty much agree on everything. Story was laughably "mehhh" but platforming was spot-on. The dungeon escape sequences- no save points and all- were definitely the highlights. Most of the soundtrack was pretty great, too.
I didn't find it nearly as hard as people claim, but that's probably because my laptop is clearly not built to play Ori, so the game was running at 40% speed in areas with anything remotely graphically intense (water, wind, light, fire, enemies, particle effects...so basically everywhere except small dark caves).
"White supremacy" didn't come to mind while playing, but the whole "god tree kills black creatures and doesn't give a shit" thing was more than a little baffling. Especially since he/it actually knew about the owl's motivation for going on a rampage.
-
Ori is emotional in the first five minutes, and the music is great, but yeah. Overall "Emotional story" it is not.
that said, it's a great platformer with some really cool ideas, and a solid all around package.
…That really, REALLY needs a lower quality setting so it can run on machines that aren't top of the line.
-
I did like watching speed runs of Ori at GDQ, so there's that. Getting it on sale to experience the cool platforming is the way to go though. It was not worth the full price I paid when it came out. Also the very beginning is okay, but even from then the game is TELLING you what you feel, instead of just making it happen. Not a good thing.
-
XCOM 2's character customization is nice but I wish it was more like some other games where you can completely customize faces and such rather than just picking from a few of them. I made a few musicians for my team.
Wagomu might like my John Darnielle.
[hide]Not sure how much this looks like him but like I said I was kind of limited with the faces and hair.
[/hide] -
X-COM Apocalypse. Had a few people get brainsucked already.
-
Tried Rabi Ribi a while ago and absolutely loved it. The characters and story is bland as hell, but the gameplay was fun, the art style cute and the music fantastic. I've been looking for a mindless happy game for a while. Easy to learn, challenging to complete, but never so hard I want to throw the keyboard at the screen… well, maybe one fight...
Playing a bunny girl metroidvania got me nostalgic for a certain other game, which I discovered got greenlit on steam: Bunny Must Die. Takes some time getting used to, and the controls aren't the most polished, but despite that it's still one of my favorite games. It's hard (The Jade Tower actually made me rage quit) but in a way I like it. You feel accomplished.
-
Just finished up a run of Pokemon Yellow on 3DS.
Final team was Pikachu, Primeape, Gyarados, Dodrio, Charizard, and Exeggcutor, which swept the E4 at level 50.
Kinda wish they'd somehow enabled GTS with the gen 1 digital releases, since I don't have much motivation to complete the pokedex the hard way :P -
Is Ness(Earthbound) supposed to miss a lot?
I'm having way to much close calls because he keeps missing with the bat on the enemies. -
Is Ness(Earthbound) supposed to miss a lot?
I'm having way to much close calls because he keeps missing with the bat on the enemies. Not generally. IIRC all the bats save for one (Casey Bat) are solid, with a chance of 1/16 to miss. Yo-yos and slingshots miss more. Unless you have status effects or something, you should not miss many attacks.

yup, sounds like another victim of the Casey Bat.

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight
I been craving for an indie metriodvania game(that's actually pretty tough and not gimmicky) for a while, and this was just up my alley! Played it on Hard Mode for my first run and had a blast committing to the smaller lifebar in exchange for actually learning the bosses' patterns, and pretty much having no idea where/how to get the most overpowered gear. There was a couple of really good bosses in there.
It's a bit on the short side. Casually it takes 2 hours considering the lower difficulty settings are pitifully generous. My first run(on Hard) was a good 7 hours since I been stuck in several boss fights. My other runs was mainly picking up on the vauge stuff I missed the first time, and currently I'm trying to finish Insane Mode… which isn't that hard after the 1st act of the game(it helps that I know the boss patterns enough to no hit them).
So yeah. I REALLY like this, and would recommend it to anyone that typically trust my taste in good games. Now to go track down the other games since this is apparently the 4th one.

hiroy bat signal appears in the sky
…Just watched the trailer and read some reviews on Steam. Definitely picking this one up sooner or later ;)
