is irrelevant. It doesn't change who he is in the current timeline of events. Sakazuki is still just this boring government attack dog with no real character other than "Grrr those pesky pirates, justice justice justice". My point still stands.

Sparing Kuzan was a significant move though. It doesn't follow the rest of his actions. He was really pissed at the elder stars too.

No. I meant people that would lead to an actual interesting battle. Hina wasn't a threat back in Alabasta aside from sheer numbers, and those others are just random names with no build up.

The admirals are strong enough sure, but none of the Captains/Vice Admirals have displayed by action or reputation anything that would warrant being final opponents.
As long as you put the VA as the top of a task in the war, that will be plenty for the average reader to take them seriously. The "In the rear the A faction lead by Dalmatian is destroying our troops."
Meanwhile, the Blackbeards have been described as the strongest and worst monsters the world has known, pretty much. The newest ones haven't done anything yet, but they've had the rep at least, and the old ones we've been getting teases for years.
I am not saying they won't be important villains. I'm saying they won't be the last ones in the series.
And.. its a shonen. You're kidding yourself if you think its not going to end with everyone having a final 1 on 1 battle to show all their skills and abilities and determination to win. Sure, Usopp may lead 4 thousand warriors and coral giants, but he's also going to have a sniper battle finale.

Most of the VA's are either swordsmen or Rokushiki users, and we've seen how they fight before. No offense, Desa, but that sounds like a most underwhelming final battle.

For the SERIES FINALE? You bet he's going to go all out and give everyone an epic final showing. He did it for Alabasta, (with a few less people sure, but still a lot) and on Enies Lobby, and that took a year, but everyone got a fight (Luffy got 2, and Sanji had stuff on the train) and only Brook has added since then. (Okay, Usopp and Robin didn't fight so much but they did face opponents and Usopp was all over the place) During Fishman Island everyone got a fight in a big group brawl. They were all really short fights, but EVERYONE got to have an opponent. (Okay, Jinbe and Sanji tagteamed.)
Yeah, it'll take a while to get through, and in the middle that could drag… but for the final? Sure, then it won't matter then if everyone is getting 5 or 6 chapter epic battles with huge unequaled scaes and swathes of destruction that Oda won't have to ever worry about topping.

Sparing a comrade's life after he's already been defeated is not significant. Sakazuki did what he needed to to accomplish his goals (fighting and winning against Kuzan for the position of Fleet Admiral). There was no need for him kill Kuzan.

sigh. this was one of the things i've always loved about alabasta. everyone got propers fights against proper villains, and everyone grew. i held out for everyone getting a fight in skypiea, didn't happen; in enies lobby, didn't happen; in thriller bark, fishman island, dressrosa - didn't happen. that's why im hoping the blackbeard pirates would be the end, with the same amount of crew members to fight one straw hat each.

Just because Shanks is more important to the series thematically and for Luffy's journey that does not mean he cares about him more than his brother who he grew up with, dreamed with, fought with, and was inspired by.

People have individuals who motivate them to go on certain paths in life who they love or respect all the time in the real world but they still have family members and friends who they care about just as much.
Don't see why it's different for Luffy even with the stuff from the story you mentioned.
In my opinion there can only be 3 answers to this, Blackbeard, Sakazuki and Shanks.
Blackbeard's plan was the trigger that lead to the summit war, he manipulated events to break a suitable crew out of Impel Down and weaken White Beard enough to kill him and take his fruit. He is by far the most prominent villain in the series and I have no doubt he will fight Luffy at Raftel for the One Piece. In many ways he is the anti-Luffy, a dark reflection of what pursuing ones dreams at any cost can mean. Him Being a D is no accident either and he is bound to steal a Zoan fruit at some point.
However is Raftel the end of the series? I kinda doubt it, I think we have an entire war after that where the Government is going to take on all of the Straw Hat's allies, if that's after Luffy vs Blackbeard on Raftel which is implied by White beards final words, then the answer is Sakazuki, who is on the other side of the spectrum from Blackbeard, he is nothing like Luffy and believes in the order of the government.
The final one I mentioned was Shanks, I admit this is the least likely but I included it for a couple reasons. Shanks was always Luffy's ultimate goal in terms of being a pirate, he wanted to surpass Shanks in chapter 1 so maybe the last fight will be a spar to prove he has done so. Now I do think this spar will actually take place but not at the end of the series, I think Luffy will spar against Shanks and lose, then later on Shanks will be killed by Blackbeard. The alternative is that Shanks all along was a villain and he needs Luffy or a D to allow him to reach One Piece. Shanks has been shown to look a little sinister in a couple of panels however I ultimately doubt it. As Shanks was on Roger's ship I believe he is basically guarding the One Piece for "the one Roger was waiting for".
I'd have to say that while Black Beard makes most sense for a final villan, it will be Sakazuki because the war must come after Raftel IMO.

I appreciate that you are new here and want to discuss everything and every idea is new and fresh to you… but please actually just read the threads some to see if what you're saying hasn't already been discussed at length, or if maybe your idea is awful.
Blackbeard is the main villain, Aikanu is there to represent the main threat of the Government, Shanks is the mentor, not a badguy.
