OPM anime was pretty much a well scheduled, short passion project that had some of the best action animators turn in freelance work.
Contrary to popular perception, it had an average budget, but nice scheduling and sheer talent pulled through.
In comparison, Toei's stuff is running on rushed schedules and is often outsourced to Philippines, where the oursource animators are allegedly paid with sandwhiches (I'm not even kidding, this is what I heard).

I know that but it is still sad that huge franchises are treated like this.

The anime had some of the best animation I've seen in recent years, the art was consistently top notch too. I honestly didn't expect to be so intrigued by the side characters before jumping in, I just expected a fun-filled action series with good comedy but I'm actually interested to see what's gonna happen next.
I've checked batoto but the manga isn't on there anymore, shit.

The manga though is selling immensely well, recently exceeded 7.5 million copies, and by far the most successful web-based manga on the market.

So i went into a bookstore earlier this week (UK), and every copy of the OPM manga had sold out. The shopkeeper told me they'd been going like crazy, it's the only manga selling off the shelves. OPM has definitely gained unprecedented traction in the west :D

The first OVA kinda blew. Not very much action. I guess Saitama's background story on his costume was interesting but I need more than that! The actual series is much superior but I'll check out this second one.

! While entertaining as always, i really expected them to keep focusing on the monster attacks across the cities, going back to the tournament was a little meh, but, it's fine.

Wow there really was a lot. At first thought it was taken up by tournament intros but that wasn't the case more stuff kept happening lol.
Also I have to say I like the way Murata does this out of focus background stuff when notable characters are in the foreground. Really makes email pop.

The only thing that I find out of place if how Charanko's senpai is unable to see through Saitama's disguise (can we even call a cheap wig a disguise?) The senpai just plays along because it suits the story but even a blind man would spot the difference.

But Saitama is not a popular hero, but rather a kind of anonymous one.
I first had zero expectations for this tournament stuff but I can't be helped to get little hyped about this…
The martial artists were very cool, it's nice to see cool characters, even outside of the hero association.

I mean, a lot of people in this fandom are already completely writing off ONE as the original creator of the series and putting all the credit on other people. I've seen people that absolutely refuse to even acknowledge the original webcomic strictly because of "omg only pretty pictures matter."

I've seen a lot more people complain along the lines of "Murata is totally trampling over the spirit of the original by writing all of these filler sequences that One obviously doesn't have anything at all to do with and implying otherwise is just stupid" despite One writing those sequences.

Yeah. A lot of people seem to forget even with the redrawn manga, ONE's still listed as the writer and Murata as the artist.
