As bad as it was watching Scobee miss two field goals, it was far from the worst kicker performance I've ever seen. Wind in his face, fairly long kicks, and still went 2/4 on the day (anyone remember the Lion's kicking game last year?). What was really amazing to me is that he managed to get inside his own coach's head with those two misses, badly. I felt like I was watching an epic meltdown in progress every time they lined up to go for it on 4th down.

Maybe I'm just conditioned as a Ravens fan to assume that if you aren't near perfect you must be the worst ever. In their 20 years of existence they've only had two down years of kickers, and they really weren't all that bad, Cundiff just failed at the wrong time. Matt Stover and Justin Tucker have been top 5 kickers all the other years.
-
Well, the Ravens have a special teams coach as their head coach and have for a while now. Not 20 years certainly, but I digress. It doesn't surprise me at all that they have one of the best kickers in the NFL, while Joe Flacco tries to pass to Steve Smith.
-
That was a great game for the Rams.
-
Jeez, the NFL should just go ahead and ban monday night games in Seattle. They all wind up going down shady as hell.
-
That rule is so specific and rarely ever applicable. It's easy to believe that the ref would forget one like that

It's the ref's job to know those rules. Saying it's specific and rare is no excuse.
Also does it make any sense that calls like this aren't reviewable? I suspect that will change with the next owners meeting.
-
It's a rule that rarely comes up because it's largely applicable when the ball gets fumbled forwards into the endzone (almost never). It's the only time a forwards fumble results in a turnover if it goes out of bounds. The other times you see it called are when someone comically tries to punch a loose ball 30 yards downfield. It's rare, but it DOES happen. I'm pretty sure I saw this get flagged for attempting to force a touchback just last year.
The NFL has tons of rarely enforced rules that hardly ever come up. Like the Calvin Johnson rule, momentum touchback rule, illegal fair catch rule (if done by another player), consecutive timeouts rule, catching a kickoff out of bounds, etc etc. But the officials are paid good money to keep them all straight and enforce them properly. And I'm sorry but it's starting to get a little suspicious that Seattle was gifted a home game by the refs for the third straight season.
Most penalties aren't reviewable right now, since they're largely considered judgment calls to begin with. To my knowledge only 12 men really can be, since that one is very black and white.
-
my god the lion's are atrocious right now
-
I guess they wanted to have last week's game not look like a fluke against them.
-
Nice to see the bucs can win still
-
I'm gonna go ahead and predict that the Bears will have another come from behind victory.
-
I really like Hoyer so far for the Texans. I hope he keeps it up and we finally have a decent quarterback
-
I'd like to think that Mariota will pay off for the Titans but I'm afraid that injuries will prevent that from ever happening. They just don't do a good job of protecting quarterbacks.
-
It's not the NFL, but it is the craziest finish to a football game that I've seen in a really long time. Especially if you take the refs out of the equation.

Pagano was trying his best to take the heat off of this kid last night with his playcalling.

I always love seeing UM getting getting victory taken from their grasp
-
that was beautiful hahaha
-
The kid for Michigan State actually suffered a broken hip from all his players piling on him.

We need a college football thread.
Anyway, I dub this The Miracle at the Big House. It's the craziest ending I've seen to a college football game this side of the 2013 Iron Bowl. I cant help but feel bad for the Michigan punter, he's probably in hiding as we speak.
-
We need a college football thread.
Must we? I'd really rather not talk about how much my team sucks and will continue to do so.
-
@Steven:

Lol, another hilariously difficult to describe punt play that went down this weekend. But the folks in Michigan don't give two shits about what the Colts are up to, unfortunately for that kid.
We need a college football thread.
Nah, this thread really doesn't get enough traffic to justify something like that. I'll just rename this thread the American Football thread and be done with it. Freedom abound.
-
Welp the texans are done for the season
-
Chargers just lost miserably at home to the Raiders in what was presumably the Battle for LA, Part I. Does this mean I can keep my Bolts? Do I even want them with this crappy management?
-
YES! Bucs win at Atlanta baby.
-
For the third consecutive week, we've had a crazy special teams finish in college football. First, it was MSU-Michigan, then FSU-GTech, now Miami-Duke.
There's plenty of good marquee games coming up, too. LSU-Bama, TCU-OK State, FSU-Clemson.
-
Surprised the Broncos are leading right now, and man, that Giants-Saints game. What a shootout.

Not sure I'd count that one. Since it wasn't supposed to be a touchdown.

that Panthers/Colts game was damn close glad the Panthers won tho

Are you a Panthers fan or are you just excited that the Colts and Texans are tied for first in the AFC South at 3-5?

I'm a Panthers fan
-
I'm not really a Panthers fan but I'm glad the Panthers won. Even though I'd like to see them lose their conference lead. As a neutral observer I thought the Colts got a ton of help to get back into that game with no calls and bad calls. I found myself wondering, as I watched the 4th quarter, if the officials were intentionally trying to make it a closer game.
One of these days Andrew Luck needs to learn to start playing the game before the 4th quarter. If he could start the game the same way he finishes it, the Colts would be one of the best teams in the league.

The 49ers have benched Kaepernick for Gabbert, and traded Vernon Davis to the Broncos for two sixth-round picks.
The niners could not be any deeper in the toilet this season.

They traded Davis and a seventh-round pick in exchange for those two sixth-round picks. Vernon Davis will probably be the No. 1 tight end for the Broncos.
WHY
-
WHY
Because 49er management reeks of desperation right now, and the entire league knows it.
If the failings continue, then it's only a matter of time before Tomsula is sacked.

Tomsula's not even the one to blame. He should never have been made head coach in the first place and the 49ers handed him the wheel of a sinking ship. It's all owner Jed York's fault and everybody knows it.
Oh, and Kaepernick has been benched to make way for the illustrious Blaine Gabbert.
-
Jesus the 49ers, how they turn to shit so badly within the space of a few seasons?
-
Ha, this is exactly who the 49ers were before Harbaugh showed up. A team featuring coaches like Mike Singletary who tried to figure out whether Alex Smith or Troy Smith was the better QB. They had a couple great years while Harbaugh was there, but now he's gone and they've immediately returned to form.
-
Are you a Panthers fan or are you just excited that the Colts and Texans are tied for first in the AFC South at 3-5?
The fact that the Titans are 1-6 and still have a legitimate shot (well, mathematically anyway) at winning their division is both awful and hilarious.
-
I reeeeeally hope the Colts sack Grigson, or at least don't just fire Pagano and leave him as GM (assuming their season doesn't take a dramatic upturn). It worked for the Panthers a couple of years ago.
-
So it looks like Carolina may choke this game away after having a huge lead over Green Bay late into the game.
-
Great, the Broncos and LSU both lost.
-
The Blaine Gabbert-led 49ers beat the now 6-3 Falcons. I don't know what to think anymore.
-
EAGLES WIN! what a finish!
-
Man what a nail biter. So glad the Bills pulled it out though, this game was pretty much their season.
-
It's safe to safe that the PAC 12 won't have a team in the playoff this season.
Cutler and Langford had a great game today. That long TD run by Langford still has me hyped.
-
Wow, just wow. First LSU and now the Broncos are just falling apart and both were at home too. I guess I'll have no investment in this season then.
-
Today Green Bay lost to Detroit for the first time since 1991. That's an insane winning/losing streak for professional franchises.

Considering they play each other every year, that streak is massive but only counted the games @Green Bay.
