I think that Lucci has a past that's as painful as Robin's, each new chapter seems to confirm it more and more.
Chapter 421 "Gear 3rd" Discussion
-
-
i dont think it would nullifies df power… the only thing about having df power is that they cant float (or was it swim?)
Well, maybe nullify isn't the right word, but they certainly can't use their powers, and they don't have any physical strength either. According to Oda, their power is taken away by being submerged in water…if they're only half submerged, then it takes away half their power and so on.
-
Soru + Geppou = Flying don't you think?
Lucchi's still got something left, that being full leopard form. Oda wouldn't leave that out without showing its power. 3 more chapters I say!
I am stating that he wont stop being stunned in time to use that to get back
-
Next chapter they could show Chibi luffy and show how weak he is afterwards whens hes in chibi mode or something that shows some weakness. One Giant Fist to the face must have something, like if you somehow dodge it "miraculously" you'll have the advantage.
-
Oh I know! Kabuto will save the day next chapter!
He'll rip a HOLE in the SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM and use TIME STOP and pull everyone through and come out on solid ground somewhere in the universe.:wassat:
Umm, to reiterate…
wakarimasen. But it'll be up to Uss--err--Sogeking to save Nami, Kokoro, Chimney, Gonbe, Chopper, Sanji, and Zoro. -
Thanks for the scan BattleFranky and eblob88 for the translation.
Wow. Gear 3rd is about as badass as it is hysterical. A giant fist? Crazy awesome. While not a dramatic KO compared to his other opponents, I think it's safe to assume the fight is over. Where else do you go from there? If Lucchi is able to come back after that hit, Gear 3rd isn't all it's cracked up to be. Imagine Crocodile getting up after the Gomu Gomu no Storm. Lucchi should be out cold, and judging by his trajectory, we all know at whose feet and his unconscious body will wind up.
-
hmmm …
why lucci did not dodge the gomu gomu no giant pistol?
did he really wanna test the strength of the giant pistol?
or did the giant pistol is as fast as jet pistol?i think giant pistol is not that fast ... (i can tell it from the images shown in the eps)
-
soooo, there's one chapter next week, and after that week, oda takes a break, right?

holy. crap. um…. go Luffy!!!

not exactly, there won't be any shonen jump. it's not really that oda takes a break.

That what's I am also thinking about, but after reading the translation, I think Lucchi might have gotten overconfident and though his Tekkai was stronger than Giant Pistol….but as we look at the 2 page spread...it was the biggest mistake he made.......and probably a bit overconfident and underestimated Gear 3........
-
There is no way Lucci is out of this just yet. Gear 3 has only just been introduced, it'd be gay if Lucci was KO'ed by a single attack.

"If this is a joke you better stop this!!"
sounds like he was afraid, or he didnt take it seriously at all
And isnt tekkai where they dont move from the hit, if they move that means the broke the tekkai right?
-

yep, except jyabura, which is the only rokushiki user able to move while using tekkai. or so i think i remember.
-

You could see it this way…....Gear 3 is Luffy's finishing move.......... from the looks of Luffy, he wants to end the fight and also eliminate Lucchi, because from the conversation in Chapter 421, it was apparent that Luffy wants to totally ownd Lucchi arse and also it was done so that Lucchi and his gang don't go after his nakama...........and I am betting that Gear 3 was Luffy's final attack to finish off Lucchi........
-
Who else thinks it would be funny if Lucci survived the attack and used Geppou, but was messed up.
Then he floats over to a panting chibi Luffy and says.
"Did you honestly believe a single attack could hope to defeat-"
Then he gets hit by a Buster Call cannon.
-

That would be a joke of the century if that happens…....
because if a huge hand the size of a giant were to hit you and you could stand back up and then get hit by a Buster Call cannon and get ownd in that way...
I rather Lucchi KO on Giant Pistol then......much better than been taken out by cannon fire....
-
I think so too, that was the end of Lucci…..
JUst like jyabura n sanji's fyt, many people expected for more but the "heat increase" is more than enough for jyabura.... n dat goes for Lucci too...
Gear 3 is more than enough...I hope :p -

Chapter 421: Buster Call was way dissapointing. I read it in LQ(low quality) but still it never suffocated me in the way I wanted it to, there was no big appareance of the Buster Call Generals… actually we never saw their faces.
Continuation and possible start of ending of Lucchi vs. Luffy sucked aswell.
Though, one plus with Gear 3 was, that it was lesser of a power-up and so much more of a great attack, lesser made me draw conclusions between all DBZ transformations and fusions and the One Piece Gears... nice, Oda-san!
-
Why aren't people able to tell the difference between the way Kaku and Jabura were finished and the way Lucci just got hit?
-
Because a buttload of One Piece fans are way too fixated upon the dullness of Monkey D. Luffy. I agree, his character is nice to an extent.. but the way it seems like he's forced by Oda-san to fight the main boss is frustrating.
-

Well ya know he is the main character, and that is a general stereotype of pretty much all shonen manga. I mean damn if you don't like the main character soo much why are you reading the manga.
-
Yeah, I'd perfer for another charcter like Zoro or Sanji to fight the main villian atleast once. Even DBZ had someone else fight the main villan
-
wow gear 3 is really cool cant wait of ch 422
-
Yeah, they'd usually get their asses kicked until Goku comes in.
Unless you mean Gohan, and in that case the reason he fought and beat Cell was because at that time Toriyama intended to try to make him the new main character. So yeah, protected by the Shonen Main Character Laws.
-
A main villain who'd get his ass kicked by somebody else than Luffy would lose his aura of badassery, he'd simply stop to be a main villain. It'd be like "so he got his ass kicked by Sanji? He wasn't that terrifying after all."
-
Yeah. Not to compromise Sanji or anyone, but that'd be weird as hell.
-
Luffy always fights the big bad guy because he wants to the most. I don't recall anyone besides him and Vivi cursing Crocodile's name in Alabasta, for one, not to mention every other sentence he would say how he was going to beat the tar out of Croc. He's also one of the only people (I think Wiper was one) to curse Enel by name - everyone else just called him "God" - so he had a personal vendetta against him as well. Besides, he's the captain - leaders fight leaders. If you had the choice of a bunch of people in your group to fight the strongest in the opponent's group, you'd choose your strongest, right? You wouldn't just say, "I think we'll try the second strongest guy, he might be able to do it" because you don't want to take that kind of a chance. They have pretty much always had a choice like this, too, because Luffy always seems to go hunt down the big bad guy.
Just be grateful that all of the Mugiwara get fights period. There are plenty of series out there (I'm looking at you, later parts of DBZ) that shelf the weak characters and only use the strong ones.
-
You are mostly right but a change of pace would be good. Even if it's a mini-arc.
-
"If this is a joke you better stop this!!"

And isnt tekkai where they dont move from the hit, if they move that means the broke the tekkai right?
Usually, yes, but i'm not sure in this case, because Luffy's arm is so much bigger that it might have just pushed him while NOT breaking his tekkai (note his pose when being thrown out with the punch).
Kind of like when a bus hits a car VS when a train hits a car: in both ocasions the car gets dragged (and smashed, but that's not the point), but with the train, the car gets dragged WAY more because of the size difference between car and train.
What i'm trying to say is: when Luffy's arm is small, regardless of his spead (regular Luffy or gear 2nd Luffy), he's unable to break his tekkay but, with his big arm (gear 3rd Luffy), the size difference is enormous (spelling??) and i'm pretty sure he can do that attack @ the same speed of Gomu Gomu No Rifle (the attack that took out Enel) or Gomu Gomu No Bullet (which ever is fastest).Well, maybe nullify isn't the right word, but they certainly can't use their powers, and they don't have any physical strength either. According to Oda, their power is taken away by being submerged in water…if they're only half submerged, then it takes away half their power and so on.
I think that the DF user looses the ability to use his powers while in the watter BUT, that doesn't mean someone else can't use them for the DF user: in the Arlong arc, wasn't Nojiko the one that streched Luffy's neck? Or was it that other dude with the spinwheel? Regardless, Luffy didn't strech his neck then: someone else did that for him. A logia wouldn't be able to do that and i think the same would be true for a Zoan, but a Paramecia user … Imagine this scenario:
Mr. 5 was sent to the water for whatever reason. Dinamite was neaded to blow up something. Someone could go underwater and retrieve one of MR. 5's boogers ... Though Mr. 5 is underwatter, he's boogers could still be explosive.
Gross example, i know, but i think it works, no? -
Gear 2 has exhausted Luffy's body, and Luffy used his final trump card on Lucchi. I'd say Lucchi is finished. It would be anti-climactic for Lucchi to come back as there's not much else Luffy could do in such a situation.
I'll admit, compared to Luffy's other main arc fights, his fight with Lucchi was rather bland with an unimpressive finish (I like Gear 3, but IMO the finishing move lacked that feeling of 'oomph' we got from Enel's, Arlong's or Crocodile's finisher). I suppose it's only fitting for a villain as bland as Lucchi that he wouldn't be on the receiving end of the final 'oomph' arc finisher. In the grand scheme of things as far as the EL/W7 arc is concerned, Lucchi just isn't all that important. Other than being nearly twice as strong as the next strongest CP9 member, he's just like all the other CP9 members, just another Spandam lackey. It seems the real main villain this arc is Spandam, and the real threat, the Buster Call, which is Spandam's power. No doubt the real arc finisher will involve Spandam and his Buster Call (which may or may not be topped off by the Gate of Justice coming down).
In regards to that, as this latest chapter seems to suggest, it will probably somehow involve Usopp. It seems like the final fight this arc will be Usopp's fight. As some had predicted, myself included, with the way Oda has been developing Usopp this arc, it really does appear that Usopp will become the main hero of this arc (which is a welcome change from Luffy always being the main hero of an arc). As much as the W7/EL arc has been about Robin, it's also been about Usopp's character development and his "Hero's Legend" (chapter 419's title).
-
Spandam is the villain, but no one gives a damn about him. The only one who knows his name is Franky, who pronounces it wrong, and maybe Robin. And he's just as insignifigant to the Buster Call, I'm willing to bet. I wouldn't say Lucci was a lackey or bland, and in fact Oda seemed to have had a little more potential for all of CP9. But I guess they all just got moved aside.
Again with Tekkai, if a guy twice your size pushes you, no matter how strong you are, you will move. For all we know he's somewhere between being perfectly fine and killed on impact, but going out of the building doesn't mean a thing.
And for the boss fight, well, there's always a convenience. Zoro having to recover from his wounds with Buggy and Mihawk, having to carry Usopp through the forest, being exhausted from the Hacchi fight, Being Ener's bitch etc.
-
But Oda-san does that on purpose, remember. I'm not blaiming him for things such as that, but before the main match between the Mugiwara and the main villain starts, they COULD pair up differently than Mugiwara vs. henchmen then Luffy vs. main.
That's just my opinion.
And yeah, Lucchi is dull. His sosistiphicated athmosphere before the Akuma no Mi fruit power of his was introduced, is completely gone. I wanted him to like attack like a predator, a sneaky and calm attacker, not a raging leopard.
-
A more stealthy like approach wouldve been great for Lucci. Could've made for a more strategic fight
-
But then wouldn't Lucci just be a Kuro clone? Super-fast, bloodthirsty, and cunning?
-
You DON'T need to be a Captain Kuro-clone to be.. super-fast, bloodthirsty and cunning. Besides, if Lucchi was these things, Oda-san could weigh up with all of these Rankyaku(storm leg) and Tekkai techniques that would make him rare.
-
the other thing that should be noticed thats much clearing in the HQ is the Rob doesn't look that defeated in the last page
as in hes still got his arms up and is in an upright position
-
Having his arms up MIGHT be from the shockwaves Luffy's Super Saiyan…. I do mean Gear 3 attack included, because when you're blown backwards, it may not be from struggling to survive, it may have been that the arms were blown up.
-
I meant like lucci using everything to his advantage. Kinda like an evil version of Batman
-
as in hes still got his arms up and is in an upright position
Yeah, i did talk about that even in the spoiler thread. Don't know where this "Lucci is flying mortally wounded to the seas" talk is coming from..
-
Lucchi beeing an evil version of Batman would suck. We already had one main villain that's still up and running, Aokiji, that turned every offensive act from the Mugiwara Kaizou-dan to his advantage. … know?
-
So how does this fit in with him going Gear 3 chapters earlier? He became a midget (likely super compressed) after. Maybe 422 somehow Lucci will get back in the fight, and Luffy will unknowingly revert back, only to be turned into a midget again. Meaning… Midget Luffy vs. Lucci!!
-
Midget Luffy would be an even more embarrassing defeat for Lucci. You'd think the supposed leader of cp9 would have more to offer besides basic cp9 techniques
-
The compressed version of Luffy, or, as I like to call him because the midget version of him owns… Chibi Luffy, isn't likely to appear in a while.. because the reason he was compressed was because he used so much power.
(you know, to blow up that door that lead to Robin, or so he thought)
-
Hmmm. Alright, having looked at the spread and thought it over, I come down on the side of those who say the Lucci fight is NOT done. I'm expecting Robin or Usopp to start a fight next chapter, though.
-
Gear 2 has exhausted Luffy's body, and Luffy used his final trump card on Lucchi. I'd say Lucchi is finished. It would be anti-climactic for Lucchi to come back as there's not much else Luffy could do in such a situation.
Plot twist, anyone? What if Luffy goes all-out and doesn't knock out Lucci? After all, these new attacks are still in the development stages… can anyone else see Luffy collapsing after giving his all and not defeating Lucci, only to be saved by his nakama somehow? Maybe Robin will get it together after seeing Luffy in trouble, catch Lucci by surprise, and dunk him in the ocean. She does owe a lot to him now as a crew member, and will come to her captain's rescue.
Just by the last panel, seeing Lucci take that attack in his Tekkai stance, I think the possibility is open that Luffy will not win this fight, at least not on his remaining power. Then again, I think back to the whole shounen cliche, and Luffy winning in the next chapter is likely.
-
Yes, I'd love for Sogeking/Usopp to engage in the possible fight between Nico Robin and the actual leader of the CP9(for those who thought it was Lucchi), Spandam… Robin & Usopp vs. Spandam would be one of the best battles evar.
Or not, it depends if they actually co-operated, or Robin used Fleur all the time as Usopp/Sogeking watched from the sidelines and fired tabasco stars and throwing stars from his amazing arsenal.
-
Robin holds Spandam in place with crutch and Sogeking shoots him down for the victory
