Hmm anyone know if they have plans to release a third one?
I would say in november according to the schedule of Box set 1 and 2 but ask Alexis: https://twitter.com/AlexisKJump
He is the editor for One Piece.

thank you for your help
November is doubtful, since the previous box sets were announced many months in advance before their eventual release.
If you are living in the US I would order the box sets.
You americans are so lucky, we don't have box sets here in France.
So still no news about a third box set? Maybe they'll release it next year? Or maybe they'll make it a surprise release?
Won't start getting individual volumes until I get the third volume just to be sure where to start with the purchases.
I'd imagine it's safe to buy 71 and onward, they've been doing 23 books a set thus far and they usually finish a arc, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that might bump it up to 24 volumes with the next set just to finish Punk Hazard since it ends in volume 70.
What's the best method to get legal physical copies of the manga
Aside from the box set suggestions I would suggest online ordering unless you're pretty up to date. Even crisscrossing your local bookstores can leave you missing plenty of volumes.

I thought of that of course, but I'm willing to wait it out and see if they keep to the old pattern.

Not to mention, most older volumes that have sat on the shelf for months or even years may have sustained damage like bent pages, covers, etc. I find volumes that have sat in B&N for a while have significantly yellowed pages.
Got volumes 25, 61, 74 from my trip to New York. Wanted to buy more, but was quite short on money already.
So, its too late for it to be relevant enough to be asked on the podcast, but I've got a question about Tsuru in the Viz adaptation. In the most recent chapters she's been in, she always gets referred to as "Otsuru". Undoubtedly O- is an honorific of some kind, but it seems pretty sudden. I don't remember her being called that anywhere before. What does it mean?
It's just a sign of respect, probably because Tsuru is a longtime naval officer and undoubtedly one of the wiser ones. It's explicitly an old-fashioned thing used for females, because back in the 19th century and before, most women had short names that would get "o" in front of them. See also, Momonosuke saying "Onami."
volume 77 cover
if you go on amazon you can see the back cover of volumes too..
I'm glad the numbers don't really obstruct the artwork on this cover. Volume 78 is gonna suck though. No way they can avoid covering up the right half of the Tontatta. At least Leo is on the left side.

the numbers line up nicely in this one.
For 78 there'll probably be 2.5 tontatta covered up. They could bring the entire artwork upwards so that the numbers are directly underneath the tontattas' feet… but that would look way too out of place..

True. Probably will just end up covering them up. Shame they didn't just ditch the ugly oversized numbering system or at least just reduce the size of the numbers to match the "volume" text. Doubt anyone would care about the 'inconsistency' if it meant being able to see more of the artwork. Everything Viz has published from around 2008 has used unique numbering on the volume covers that fits the artwork. Hero Academia has pretty small numbers to match the Japanese volumes. There's really no reason for the numbers to be so huge on the One Piece volumes beyond 'consistency', but that didn't stop them from switching from the gold foil title to the various other colors with arc titles.
Haven't seen any news about Viz picking up the spinoff series: One Piece Party
If they are watching Japanese sales I might as well get a copy in Japanese

I wouldn't bet on Viz picking up anything One Piece-related.
Because I think "Clown Star" looks dumb and I wanted something more memorable and alliterative
I'm reading the viz volumes and wanted to know why it was translated to Real Ponegliff? I'm sure this may have been mentioned long ago in this thread but I was just curious on it was changed to that.

Since the Rio/Real Ponegliff is only mentioned in chapter 301 (as far as I can remember) I would write viz an email or inform Alexis. I guess that can easily be changed to Rio without harming the consistency

Do we have any sort of official confirmation as to which way it is actually meant to be spelled?

As far as I know there is no official latin spelling of poneglyph, not even in the databooks. However in Stephen's script it is spelled "Rio Poneglyph". The german version does call it "Rio Porneglyph" (with a "r")

Oh my, we got some horny germans.
I'd also like it if Stephen could change the name to whatever he feels is correct since it's barely been mentioned.

I meant whether there has been a latin spelling for "Rio" or "Real" because the latter may actually hold some more significance, unless Rio means something that I'm not aware of.

The thing is here that the Furigana are written in Katakana with a different spelling compared to the Kanjis and therefore you would spell it Rio Pōnegurifu リオ・ポーネグリフ However the Kanjis 真の歴史の本文, literally translates to "True Text of History". The first Kanji (真) reads Rio according to the furigana (リオ ) but the meaning would be "real" or "true". Long story short the correct spelling would be Rio but the translation of viz is not wrong concerning the meaning
Edit: panels in question of chapter 301:
!

"Rio" translates to "River", most likely referring to how the poneglyphs are connected and lead to it.
I'm not sure what the original impetus for the choice was (probably just because "Rio" would not mean anything on its own to English readers, and the kanji meaning is "real") but the Viz styling of that term is "Real Ponegliff," in both Alabasta (the basement scene) and in Skypiea. I don't see a particularly pressing need to change it.
Sometimes I wish the terms, names, and spellings were more consistent between the dub and manga. Although nothing is lost in meaning, it drives my OCD nuts to open a random manga volume, see "Zolo" or "Merry Go" or "Teech" and think, "Oh yeah, this was a thing."
which translation is correct ?
!

@abu:
which translation is correct ?
viz translation says 40 skillful-grade swords while fan translation and the raw say 50..

You don't need me to confirm what's clearly written in arabic numbers in the raw.
And the bottom three says the same thing, just worded differently.
So uh, why did you bug me about this? :wassat:

the first one : " the only man who fought roger and lived "
the second one : " the only man who tide in fight against roger "
and the last one : " he fought alone against roger to a standstill "
so i want to know is he tide with roger or just fought him
and is he the only one or not
It literally says he's the only one who fought equally against Roger, so really any of those would work in context.
Well, I guess other than the first one making Roger sound unnecessary bloodthirsty, lol
I just wish it was spelled "poneglyph" rather than "ponegliff"
I really have no idea why they went with that spelling. Unless they thing readers are too stupid to determine the pronunciation of glyph?

Lol, the first one is unmistakably false. Whitebeard fought against Roger and lived. Shiki fought against Roger and lived. Garp fought against Roger and lived. I myself had fought against him and I am here telling the story
Just letting you guys know I found Volume 76 in Barnes & Noble today. Also picked up vol 2 of My Hero Academia, vol 3 of One-Punch Man, and vol 1 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2.
I just got my hands on volume 76 (digital). Apart from the dialouge changes in chapter 760 that were initiated by Oda himself, one "important" line was changed in chapter 761 by viz. Now the story about the Op-Op fruit fits the context in a more understandable way:

Edit:
Oh, one other thing, in the last SBS corner(p. 148) viz did a great job in explaining the admiral question with the Momotaro reference. It wasn't translated word by word but adapted and extended in a way that every english reader could understand it. In return viz left out the shiritori-game comment on that very page that concludes the japanese SBS corner. I guess such a question can't be adapted to english in a way a normal reader would understand. However I hope viz would have mentioned it in a note. Unfortunately that happend before.
Can you recall what Stephen translated for the Viz of god d usopp or at least have the link

I don't understand you question? God Usopp is called God Usopp in viz? Which chapter are you referring to?

The viz joke of the translation of where tells everyone to leave him alone but it sounds like he's calling himself a god.

YOu mean chapter 744?

Was wondering how he was gonna pull that off, and it looks nicely done.
Thanks a lot
Does anyone have the Digital Viz volumes 24 to 42, 56 and 77? If you have the physical volumes and you're willing to scan them, please reply me as well. My intention is to upload to the Internet (Mangafox and other websites) all of the possible Viz volumes available. Reply me inside this thread, don't send me messages because I might not read them.

You sent me a PM asking me if I can scan them. However i'm afraid sweetie that you just asked the wrong person because I don't have the equipment to do that.
I don't know what's worse; asking for scans of the Viz volumes so you can illegally upload them online, or doing so in a thread which the official translator for One Piece frequents. Completely tactless.

Ask him https://twitter.com/AlexisKJump - he might be willing to share the volumes with you
I don't even know what to say about that…
