Onepunch-Man (ONE's original webcomic)
-
Pell moment incoming.
-
So I'm considering finally picking up this series, but I have a few questions first.
So, based on my fairly limited understanding of this series, it first started out as an online comic and then got so successful that they adapted it into an official manga in Young Jump with "better" art. So, my question is, what's the best way to read the series? Should I read the online comic, the redrawn version, or both? If both, does it matter which one I read first? Do the two versions tell essentially the same story or are there differences between them?
Any info you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!
-
I'd read the original first. My understanding is that Murata and ONE are friends, so the redraw started off as friendly collab, but was quickly serialized. Aohige can probably clarify or correct.
-
The original webcomic started in 2011. ONE writes and draws it, and publishes it online on his own website.
The readapatation started in 2012. It is drawn by Yuusuke Murata, but the story is written by ONE. It is also a webcomic, but one published by Young Jack's online website, Tonari no Young Jack. Occasional promotional extra chapters are published in print in magazines like Weekly Shonen Jack, Young Jack or Miracle Jack. First volume was printed in December 2012. First English volume was printed in February 2014 by Viz.
The scanlation of the original webcomic has began only after the latest chapter of the redrawn version at the time was done, so chapters 4-27 of it haven't been translated. So for now it's easier to start from the beginning with the redrawn version, and once your have read it, to switch back to the original which has twice as much published content.

Read the original first. I actually love ONE's art and it provides the perfect mood to the series.

There are differences between the versions. The redraw has some extra "filler" content and superficial changes here and there. Because of that if you do go with reading the original first there will still be something to look forward to in the redraw other than looks.
I'll also echo the opinion to read the original first. The simple art style suits the story really well. It's the whole reason that Murata will sometimes mimic it in the redraw.
-
Like most here I started reading the redrawn version and switched to the original to keep reading the story. it was a hard transition at first but I got used to it soon.
I recommend to read the ONE version up to the actual episode, mainly because I realized that I enjoy more the story than the eye candy visuals.
-
I recommend reading the remake then transitioning to the original, which is what a lot of people did. There's a huge misconception that Murata penned the OPM story, so a lot of people have to accept that ONE is the writer and it's tough to get into his charming, albeit poor art style.
-
Thanks for the input everyone. Since chapters 4-27 of the original comic haven't been translated, I'll probably be checking out the redrawn version first, but I may also read the first 3 chapters of the original for comparison.
Thanks again!

So, about the recent Murata chapter:
In ONE's version Senior Centipede saves Garou from Bang, and then dies fighting Garou at the park after Saitama OHKO's him for dine-n-dashing. He can't die here against Metal Bat, but I doubt Metal Bat will lose to Senior Centipede since he's only a 'Demon Level' monster; ONE said Metal Bat could take out a Dragon level by himself. Metal Bat was absent for the Monster Association arc though, so I'm assuming this interaction is what will explain his absence from the arc. I'm assuming Garou will run in to the Gattling Gun hero on his way to Metal Bat, then fight Genos, Bang, and Bomb, with Senior Centipede running away or escaping Metal Bat to assist Garou? Something along those lines.
Anyway I also just realized that Bang and Bomb heading out to find Garou should have happened during the Tank Top master fight; has that already happened, and it was just moved to an earlier part of the story? I don't remember it happening in Murata's. Lot's a little changes to this arc. (Plus a lot of new stuff). I can't remember the order of things any more.

It has, it was the pre-cursor to the tournament Saitama entered. It was how Charako got beaten up. Chapter 46
-
Ah! I never read that part of the chapter! I somehow jumped from Tank Top Master getting punked to them being in the hospital. Thought that was weird.

As absolutely no one expected, ONE proceeds to upload the first pages of chapter 103 just a week after finishing chapter 102.

So this will really end up as fight
I wonder if Tatsumaki will be first to give Saitama even slightest damage.. It would be good set up for introducing numer 1 Hero - Blast

Tatsumaki is league of her own with her powers, disregarding Blast she is totally different league of rest of S class heroes…but even so I don't think she can inflict even minor damage to Saitama, who is cursed of being so powerful that nothing can give even slightest hint of challenge, Boros might been closest to give stimulum to Saitama but he will be alone with his power at least for a while.

Didnt One said that Garou and Boros were equal in his latest interview ?

I recall something like that, but I have some difficulty in believing it.
Edit:
@Purple:
Yeah, Boros had a legit planet threatening species threatening technique, but I vaguely recall someone mentioning earlier in this thread that ONE said that Garou and Boros are roughly in the same strength.
We are one step closer to the Holy Interview.
-
Saitama is treating Tatsumaki like you treat a little child on a trantrum. By no bothering to react and not letting her get away with her whims.
Of course this would only enrage Tatsumaki more, and Saitama would keep not giving much of a shit.
-
Hngh… where is the rest of it.Hard to not get hyped...
-
Boros and Garou being in similar power categories only makes sense if you look at them as being diametric opposites to each other.
Boros was a soft target with massive regen and huge energy techs. He was a regenerating area-of-effect glass cannon.
Garou was a hard target with single target crushing techs. He was a tanky single focus fighter.

Perhaps prophecy that brought Boros to eart was about his and Garous fight ?
Or Blast and Boros fight maybe ?
Too bad for Boros that phropecy didnt warned him about Saitama and he came across universe just to get slaughtered.

Assuming the fortuneteller wasn't just lying in the first place to get rid of Boros for a few decades, that prophecy was probably intended to get him killed. It was supposed to be a satisfying fight; nothing was apparently said about him actually winning it.

Yeah that's how I saw it too, Boros was truly immersed in his fight against Saitama and could go all out while enjoying difficult battle with full throttle, only down side was that he never could make Saitama serious.
-
Yes, it was pretty cool that Boro's regret was that he was the only one giving his all.
Even so he was the only one who forced a serious punch from the Onepunch man.
-
I'm so interested in how this will end. .-. Now that tatsumaki knows that Saitama isn't a weak shit I can't wait to see how it plays out.
If Saitama knew that Tatsumaki was an adult, I feel like the fight they're having right now would be going on a tad bit different.

Here's the new update
http://galaxyheavyblow.web.fc2.com/103.html -
Prediction:
Tasumakis actions will trigger a witch hunt for psychics. -
the b*tch has lost it :getlost:…
j/k she is quite interesting character.
-
Damn. Saitama is seriously so nonchalant. I love it.
-
It looks like the beginning of a new friendship :)

-
Surely the fight just won't end by Tatsumaki realizing that she can't do a thing against Saitama and that he haven't even attacked her once, because that would be just lame.
-
''Baldy''…''Midget''.
The die has been cast and this could only end in blood...level of destruction will be immense and could place A city in ruins before this heinous insult can be settled.
-

I'm pretty confident the fight will end with a plot-based interruption or some kind of misunderstanding

quiet you. I want this to end with some actual plot development! Don't crush my dreams with your realistic logic!

Well if any writer is going to surprise us it's probably ONE :)

That would really be out of character for Tatsumaki; if anything, coming to that realization that he's going easy on her would just make her more angry and try even harder.
-
What kind of psychological problem Tatsumaki has? Is it over protective or her past and the pain she tastes and she doesn't want to her sister (fubuki) to go through this experience.

Fubuki is her property, just a thing that reminds Tatsumaki that she is not alone in the world. She is crazy as a bag of cats so that Fubuki is terrified of her matters not one bit.
-
One page is the update.
-
I think its safe to say that Tatsumaki is at least stronger than Geluganshp (Boros #1 minion and strongest psyker of 'universe'). But we will see how much she can actually push Saitama.

So Fubuki actually made Saitama "?!" ?
Maybe she is not THAT FAR behind him when it comes to power.. or maybe One is trolling me and she will get treated like Sonic by Saitama in next chapter..

You mean Tasumaki

It wasn't really Tatsumaki's power but Saitama being distracted since his jacket was ripping apart.
