Lol, that's a tough comparison to make.
All things considered, comment sections are usually that bad. It's best not to read them.

A picture of the sonic amiibo in Mario Maker. A whole bunch of amiibo pictures have been leaked.
!
The 16-bit on 8-bit weirds me out.

You better know her 8-bit sprite because it's Aa-Aashleeey
Fuckin'. Sold. For me, this game will be Super Samus/Waluigi Maker.
I kept clicking play like an idiot to find out how waluigi would be unlocked.
Took me a bit to realize it's a picture xD
Yes Tingle YESSSS
Since Ashley gets "all" the glory, i still hope there will be space for Penny

WALUIGI!!! Take my money… Take all of it, NOW!
Did people not hear there would be like a hundred of these little 8-bit characters? you're not getting amiibos of them, guys. They're just in the game as unlockables.
It's interesting to see some of the things that people are doing. In particular, I'm loving the level idea of mushrooms being a bad thing, and I seriously hope people do more stuff like that.
While also seriously hoping the game goes down in price at some point because that kind of stuff would be fun to experience.
Also, apparently they added more hands that you can choose from, probably since people were not fans of just the white lady one.
tbf they did not confirm that there will not be amiibos of them down the line. All they said was that there is another way to unlock characters without the amiibo.

I too have never really gotten the Ashley hype. I mean yeah her song is catchy but….?!
Waluigi? Mugen we need to trade Wa-themed levels STAT.
Really cool you can use other non-amiibo Nintendo characters. It's a small feature, but I'll admit it's holding a lot of the appeal of the game for me. What each character will look like in 8-bit, possible soundbites (please let Shulk talk), their victory themes….
Oh man, would the Inkling get an 8-bit rendition of winning an online match in Splatoon?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Gaah, the Pokemon heads are too stingy. No sounds from the game.
yay for Sonic, Diddy, and Ness.
One thing I can't find any info on:
Do the Amiibo costumes only work in SMB1 mode, or are there versions of them in SMB3, SMW, or NSMB modes?
It's been clarified already that amiibo costumes only work with SMB-style.
Slippy costume is also confirmed. I imagine we will get a peppy one as well then
Looking at the Sprites, it's odd to me that SMB1 mode is the only option for ALL of the Amiibo… like, Yoshi, Bowser, Luigi, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac Man, Samus and Link at least all have existing 16 bit sprites, heck, it looks like the Sonic sprite used there IS his 16 bit sprite... I'd think those at least would be usable in SMB3 or Mario World modes.
Yeah, but thats extra design and development work. Doing up four seperate sprite asetts per character, especially when the later games have wider variety of moves and then later are cg rendered models… is an inordinate ammount of work. Thats asking them to make 200 character sets, basically from scratch. For a bonus feature most people aren't going to have full access to.
That would be just insane.
Yes, its probably what it should be, but it pretty understandable that it isn't.
I'm not saying they need to be NSMB version obviously, but like, again, why can't the characters who have EXISTING 16 bit sprites have a 16 bit option? Like Sonic for example.
I'm not saying they need to be NSMB version obviously, but like, again, why can't the characters who have EXISTING 16 bit sprites have a 16 bit option? Like Sonic for example.
Because that would be unbalanced and then people would want it for the other 40 characters…. and also want to know why they don't have it for the other two versions.
Keeping it to just the earliest version is the most sensible thing.
Also, in a lto of cases, just because they have a 16 bit sprite, doesn't mean they'd carry over to Mario format well. They might be too big or too small or be lost code or not great in a strict left-right platformer or whatever else. I mean, look at Bowser. He obviously existed in the all the Mario games but his 8 bit sprite is reformed and super tiny in order to fit the structure of classic Mario's hitboxes, they didn't just reuse his 8 bit form.
There's also the fact all these come with sound effects as well, for jumps and hits and completing the level. It's a big difference having 8-bit audio files for 100 or so characters, as opposed to having the same with 16-bit sound effects.
At that point it become a lot of work for what's supposed to be an extra feature.
Pro Controller, Wiimote (w/o nunchuk), and Classic Controller(s) are all usable with this game.
There's already some brilliant stuff like Winners Don't Do Shrooms and the game isn't out yet.
I also think this game has quite a lot of potential for popularity in the age of Youtube and Twitch. I hope they continue to support it with features and dlc (slopes etc) long after release. I'd even go as far as have it ported over to NX when it comes because I truly believe that Super Mario Maker has potential for longevity. Furthermore, I say it doesn't need an actual sequel because I honestly don't see much a sequel could add that DLC support couldn't.
According to a Gamexplain Q&A, you can switch the Wii U clock around ("time-travel") to circumvent the manual 9-day waiting period.
This game keeps getting better and better. That said, Skinny Mario is an abomination of nature.
edit: forgot this was smb3 theme
All that stage was missing was the Samus amiibo costume right at the start. Though, since I think the costume negates all other power ups, I can see why they didn't put it in.
Anyway, I want to play that stage, because the guy was playing it like a noob.

Sorry Mugen, the level was in SMB3 style, and amiibos are only in SMB1 style. :P
That said, I plan to make amiibo-themed levels for the ones I have.

Wow, how did I forget that? Duh. I guess I was too hyped about how cool the level looks and plays. Still, it's not like similar levels can't be made in SMB-style!
Also, can you switch between styles on the fly? If so, there are a lot of cool things that can be done with that. I can't wait to mess around with the editor and play other people's creations.
I'm so disappointed the Pokemon amiibos don't have any Poke-sounds when jumping, taunting, finishing a stage….battle victory from Red/Blue would've fitted so well.
Another amiibo costume:

Another Metroid-inspired level (played by a total noob):
I love how the guy says that the level "definitely could use some fine-tuning" at the end. Know what really needs fine-tuning, dude? Your gaming skills. Git gud, son.

Wow yeah, that's painful to watch. You're a professional reviewer, play at least a little Mario. Yeesh.

I didn't think he played that badly. The level design did look fairly difficult for a Mario game.
Of course, I am used to watching Arin play every day on Game Grumps.
The difficult level design wasn't his fault, but that first minute or two of awful play definitely was.
Thankfully no misplaced song to morph into a meme.
You're a builder now, you're a plumber now. You're a builder, you're a plumber, you're a builder, you're a plumber, You're a builder, you're a plumber, su-su-su-su-su-su-su-su-Super Mario… MAKER!
:P
lmao
Whoever made this, goddamn you put in the effort to make it flow so right.
Its Mario Paint all over again.
Whoever made this, goddamn you put in the effort to make it flow so right.
Yep, that was pretty cool. But if you wanna talk about effort…
Oh, are we doing that now?
Someone went and leaked Every Single Costume in SMM.
He divided them into categories, "Smash" obviously being the ones that unlock from the Smash Amiibos, "Mario", "AC" (Animal Crossing), and "Misc".
Some surprising ones in there too.
Sonic in a classic style Mario level and the duck riding on the dog… is this the end of the world we know?

You can say that again
! Nikki from Swapnote, a Wii Balance Board, the guy from Brain Academy and… a Mahjong piece from Yakuman? What? Some of them are a bit disappointing though like the yarn yoshis and isabelle having two. The Green one just looks the same as regular Yoshi to me. Foreman Spike was a great addition though.
! Also no Roy and Ryu. I wonder if they will update at a later date with more. Maybe the other upcoming Smash DLC characters.
