I like the completely pointless band-aid more.
Chapter 796: The Soldiers Decision
-
-
Bellamy for Nakama. The jerk from a hundred chapters ago becomes a friend.
-
He went the entire chapter annoyed that Kyros was lying and he said he has something to "solve" how does the logical conclusion becomes "he is going to ask Rebecca to join?" even if you somehow think of that you should also remember the more logical one.
With that said Rebecca doesn't seem to happy with the whole princess thing but she wasn't happy being a Gladiator either.
Luffy face was hilarious in that scene where he was going through multiple things.
I know I keep repeating myself with this but how the fuck can Mangapanda translate the chapters worse and worse every fucking week…
Well when the king of prodence (or whatever his name is) asks Riku if he's sure that he wants to give Rebecca the Crown next and tells him he remembers when Scarlet was super stubborn the whole matter does leave it open ended and not so clear cut as people are making it appear. I think Luffy may ask her to join because out of all the potential characters in Dressroba that could join she's the one he seemingly wanted to save Dressrosa the most for. I think he will ask her and she will ponder on it and when she says no he'll tell her they're nakama Irregardless of her decision and then like someone said earlier he will announce that Riku is Rebecca's father and the citizens will be fine with it so that way he's tied up all loose ends, will say his farewell, probably give a goofy grin to Fujitora before catching up to the escape ship, the citizens will all wave on and his new comrades along with Bartolomeo will hold the navy at bay to buy time, but Luffy will stretch and yank Bartolomeo onto the ship hahaha (totally want Bartolomeo to continue journeying with them )
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh and if it wasn't obvious already Bellamy is joining Law.
-
Bartolomeo HAS TO meet the other SHs as well. I really want to know if he would recognize Sanji LOL.
Hopefully we will see him again soon. But where is Gambia? I hope he is making the ship ready for the VIPs to leave
-
It could be that Luffy will get to the plaza and reveal to the people that Kyros, the great hero of the colliseum, is alive and that he is Rebecca´s father.
One more possibility is, that Luffy is heading to Sengoku and thank him that he gave Ace´s Body to the pirates, so Ace could have a normal funeral. That would also fit to Luffy´s Charakter.

There's no way he's going to do anything related to Sengoku. he's going to to something related to Rebecca or Kyros. As of what, we'll find out!

Hold on a second, Oda just completely skipped the tea party…
If we go by the info given this chapter, in OP time it was yesterday.
This really bothers me for some reason.
-
I'm tired of all this. Oda gets Kaidou in front of Kidd and skips it next chapter. Well this is a joke, and it is not funny. He's been doing these sort of things the whole arc. Totally disappointed.

He is skipping events… There will be a flashback or info about it. No doubts. Same goes for Swirlies escape and Kaidou

He's been doing it for the whole series. It really isn't anything new.
And there really wasn't a reason to expect to see Kaido in action yet. We got a glimpse into his personality and we know what he's planning on doing in the future. That's all we need, and if it was supposed to be a significant confrontation, I'm sure it would've gotten more focus, but it didn't.

But I would love to see his reaction after Kidd would tell him Luffy has beaten DoFla
-
Luffy's business is to set record straight regarding Kyros and Becca. The worst Fuji will do is rain down meteors on them.
-
Decent chapter and a poor but not awful translation. The chapter definitely played out a bit differently than how I imagined it from Aohige's description, but that's a good thing. Luffy was great and I love the new laid-back Sengoku.
Also, the return of Robin's cowboy hats and a new hairstyle for Franky!
-
This chapter heavily reminded me of Post-EL arc… what a nostalgic feeling. <3
EDIT--
Can I keep fanboying on Bellamy's joining ship?
!
-
Oda's art is absolutely fantastic this chapter.
-

Yeah, I guess.. I just didn't expect it to be a flashback, that's all. We got a quick flash forward to the Swirly Hats the day after Doffy's defeat
(1 day before the party) and it had me excited. -
damn..i only now remembered that bellamy was supposed to be dead.
I know it's oda we are talking about and nobody took that seriously..but what a waste of pages the whole debate if he should punch him or not when he didn't matter AT ALL and he could have done it in 2 seconds..it's not like he contained his strenght either..he punched him with full face-bending forceabout luffy unfinished business..i get it thatt the set up seems to hint at him wanting people to know who is rebeca's father..but it sounds really impactical if that is the unfinished business..how is he supposed to do that?how the hell he will even reach the main part of the city with issho, sengoku and tsuru right in front of them?
-
Perfect setup for Kyros to cut ties with Rebecca and become Nakama (well I can dream)
-
It's so convenient that Luffy's luck "runs out" when he's able to escape, it's also interesting that Fujitora says he didn't tamper with the die like so many were predicting saying he may even be using his gravity powers, so he's an honest guy - I like that. Tsuru finding the tontatta princess adorable was funny, Sengarpu laughing at the die was hilarious. Something that caught my eye on the cover page, why is W.A.TER spelt like this? Hmm.

you are talking about the guy who wasn't killed by crocodile because a drop launched previously fell on his face.
luffy's luck is not "convenient",it's part of the story at this point. -

One it's absurd that any one thought that punch would kill Bellamy.
And two do you really think the point of all that was just to kill Bellamy and not a way to show the relationship between him and Luffy, the depths of his suicidal bend, and add more to his character?
I don't see how that's a waste of pages just because he didn't die, especially when that was never the point. -

luffy's luck is not "convenient",it's part of the story at this point.I didn't mean it as a negative thing, but it is convenient because the timing is perfect, he's no longer rendered incapacitated and is able to flee the scene, just because everyone on this forum seems to use the word convenient as a way to attack the writer doesn't mean the actual meaning of the word has changed. Maybe I should have written "perfect-timing" at least that hasn't been tarnished yet lol.

I don't see how that's a waste of pages just because he didn't die, especially when that was never the point.Exactly, for someone who just told me "luck is part of Luffy's character" how he thinks Luffy is ever capable of killing, especially someone he considers his friend is very contradictory, maybe I should remind him that Luffy hasn't ever killed anyone, intentionally, unintentionally or otherwise.

i didn't say luffy should have killed bellamy, that is not the point.
the point is that for a couple of characters, the entire plot revolved around the impossibility of just dealing with bellamy with one punch and go against doflamingo.
plot point that now we discover was just a ruse..bellamy was never in the danger of dying, either in or outside the story (basically, either by his condition and by oda's reluctance about killing characters with a name),and everything was just a big waste of time. -

Horrry Shit… i really expected more story this chapter. There were lovely panels but over all not much story progression.
To your point. We all know ODA skips big events when they dont have a long impact on the allover story. If Kaidou doesnt take the alliance out ODA will not show this confrontation just because there are cool characters facing off. We will see the alliance in a few chapters and they will mention crazy Kaidou and what happend just briefly and thats it. Blackbeards fight with ACE for example was shown to be important and we saw a big part of it.
BUT as the story comes closer to the end people are expecting that some big stuff happens and other charcters come more into the spotlight. I can understand the frustration. This chapter for me was boring, storywise. I liked the art and certain parts of the chapter but i could not enjoy it really because we know that a lot of stuff is going on.
I think we will have two more Dressrosa chapters and thats ok. But in any great book or series the payoff towards the end of the story is always bigger as in the middle so i can understand why people expect something more in the new world. ODAs new Editor just said a few weeks ago that One Piece is 70% done. Going by that One Piece will have 120 volumes and go on for another 8 years or so with volume 79 coming out in a few weeks. If 70% of One Piece really is done than we will "only" have 41 volumes till it is finished.

Fujitora says he wasn't manipulating the rolls, but it's entirely possible he was the previous two days. With the arrival of Tsuru he judged that the risk of getting caught outweighed the chance that Luffy and co. wouldn't be able to escape yet, and thus let this roll be honest.
At worst, there's slightly less than a 3% chance such an occurrence would happen naturally. That's easy money in terms of narrative probability.
-
@Game:
Just because people seem to miss the whole talk with Kyros:
Luffy does not like that Kyros' relationship with Rebecca is being kept a secret, so Luffy's business is to reveal it to everyone and resolve that problem.
It's not about asking anyone to join.Exactly what I think. :)
-
I wasn't a big fan of the last two chapters though they were great but I loved this one.
It was heartwarming/peaceful and I liked the character interactions and the general pacing/way the story unfolded m. -
We are all gonna be triple polar like Luffy in this chapter in the next 2 weeks.

Hm, true but then that last page of him wanting to "truly" test Luffy's luck would be pointless if he's the one that's created the luck for him

Luffy was reluctant to punch him, not because he was in danger of dying but because Bellamy is his friend, but his other friend was getting wrecked upstairs so he had to make him unconscious with that punch. Him being on the verge of death was mostly mentioned by the ever-assuming Doffy who thought Law was dead on several occasions so it's not like his condition was set in stone.
-
Pretty sure that Kyros is going to turn out to be Kobra's son and Vivi's brother. Him being royalty as well fixes most of these domestic and public image problems with the Riku family and them all living together. Bellamy pulling a Mr. 2 would be awesome as someone mentioned already, but I'm really getting the vibe that if anyone joins this arc it will be him.
-
This chapter was a whole loada nothing…..i wanted more Kaido dammit......
Bellamy should join Law's crew imo......Even if he does have a 198 Mill bounty, he has no crew and its not gonna do him any good....

Nope. Obon Next Week.

Great chapter. I saw someone complaining in this thread about Oda not going back to Kaido. I thought it was pretty obvious we were not going to see him this chapter again. I bet you we don't see him for a while either. Next time we see him he will be with kids alliance and after that we get a flash back to that incident to explain why they're together.
Back to the chapter though. Not a classic chapter but a great one, and great chapters are always welcomed. I give it a 8/10. We got some comedy out of this chapter and everybody is finally packing their bags and escaping thanks to the Navy. I thought Jinbei for sure was going to be the next straw-hat crew member but Bellamy and bartolomeo are for sure looking like strong contenders to be the next one. I could also however see neither joining. One could easily pull a bon clay move to let everyone escape.
As of right now, I'm saying Bart, Belly, and the rest of the pirate heros escape together. I'm a say everyone will help Luffy and Law in the next arc right now. While typing this out I'm starting to believe the war arc is not going to be the final arc. Maybe the war arc is up next? When Kaido appeared he said hes going to start a war at the end of the chapter. Hes with Kid and alliance right now. I'm guessing Capone is with Big Mom. Uroune is in the sky so he could obviously run into Enel any moment. And Luffy has many allies with him together right now.
Unless everybody goes their separate ways to me it seems like the war is happening sooner than we expected.

I honestly wonder how they fk they assign these numbers…..who decided it should be 195 instead of 190?

Kyros being royal was a rumor he created himself. It is not true. It was made to make the public acknowledge Rebecca as a legitimate princess.
-
If my prediction is right and war arc does happen. I say Blackbeard stays out of this arc and hes the final villain for one piece.
-
I expected more of a cliffhanger this week but the chapter was fine.
-
I thought the chapter was nice. One Piece has been a bit all over the world lately, like, literally, so going back to Dressrosa and start to wrap things up was nice.
I mostly liked the interactions between characters. I liked that Elizabello brought up the ¿irony? of a country that 3 days ago was wealthy and bordering on violent, and suddenly want to be uber peaceful, and that thought giving Riku some doubts about his immediate future rule. It's not as happy happy as we're used to, I mean, it's a happy ending of course, but there are some doubt for the future after what has happened for the past 10 years.
It's not super deep, but for what it is, it's fine. And also, I like everytime that Oda brings Elizabello back not just to shout "kiiing puuuuuuuunch!", but to bring some interesting matters to the table.
And, obviously, I loved the new Sengoku. Being so friggin' chill just. . .suits him. It's amazing how, sometimes, Oda seems to be able to make his characters bloom with just some appearances here and there and you're able to take the whole picture about them. In fact, I'd say he's better at that, at creating whole characters with little panel time than when he slowly builds them up. Oh, and I loved his interaction with Mansherry of all people.
The only downside would be how side-dishey the whole Bellamy thing seemed. I guess Oda wanted to remind the readers Bellamy is still there and that no, he still hasn't completely changed, but it could've used a few more panels. Of course he's gonna bring it up again.
Good, overall it was good.
@Snir:if im not mistaken…
this is the first time we get the same point of view doffy saw while sitting on his couch like 100 chapters agohttp://img01.ishuhui.com/op/he796/07.png
http://img.bato.to/comics/2014/09/21/o/read541e9a486ba76/img000007.pngWoah, nice!
-
Nice chapter, guess we'll be here for another 2-3 chapters. Guess Oda is really going for the 800 mark.
Also, people who expected more of Kaidou: That was an obvious tease and would never be more than that. Also, Kidd alliance won't fight him either. Shocker!
-
If anything happens to KHA off-screen it was probably Kidd's fault.
-
The best part of this chapter by far was Sengoku's reaction to Isshou's die.
-

To me it's either that, or Barto's visualization of Tsuru-chan and Sengoku.

Maybe Law gets new members?

Relaxed Sengoku was awesome he really looks like another Garp now, dem dies.

Also wasn't big mom's tea party in four days? It's the fourth day now…....
