Towards the time that Going merry was talked of "wrecked" I read some other stuff that Ussop said. Those carpenters were professionals but they didn't have heart. The will to live is something that I see. What if they fixed Going Merry (though the keel couldn't be fixed it could still be fixed enough to stay for awhile) but what if (in this Shonen little world) the keel would never break? I don't see Going Merry losing itself anytime soon. So now here's something else. They are already at Enis Lobby, but what in a huge chance that the Going Merry had suddenly floated towards Enis Lobby. If they were to see it floating nearby as if some kind of miracle. It could also help with the abandonment of Ussop.
My Theory Upon Going Merry
-
-
Um, Kaku set it on fire before pushing it out to sea. Just before an Aqua Laguna. The odds that a boat with a cracked keel, on fire, in the middle of a tsunami, with no one there to work the bilge pumps except Klaubattermann would not only survive, but actually float serendipitously enough to the very island where its crew is are astronomically small. They're Oda-nomical .
-
wait, I didn't see it put on fire in the manga?
water>fire
just so you know. Plus it was raining. Repairing that wouldn't be as bad but I still didn't see him put it on fire but I do know that its probably Oda trying to throw us off…something I would of thought and all these things Ussop was saying, it seems all like if something you have to really listen to.
-
I don't remember Kaku set it on fire, I thought he just threw the parts into the sea?
-
THat's the same thing I saw, Butt3r so I have one person who says it was on fire and another saying he just threw it into the sea.
-
i never saw it set on fire…. hmm....just face it, merry is dead. Time for a new ship! wohoo!
-

Uh, where did you get the "Kaku set on on fire" thing? That's not in the manga and not in the anime ethier.
He just pulled the lever to open the chute that drians the water the ship was on and got pushed out by a current. We saw the ship fell in the raging ocean and it looks like it broke up in the ocean, crashing on the walls, thus breaking it.
-
then if I were to have a theory, then my second theory would be(I forgot its name, but its so damn long of a name) that the ship could fix itself again. Now remember that the first time the others didn't believe Ussop. I will put up "The boy that cried wolf" thing into this topic cause maybe Franky will agree with Ussop that the ship was shattered and it is now suddenly fixed. Face it, there is no way that Oda will rid the Going Merry like that. This is a shonen manga. If something like this is precious, it won't leave unless it was meant to happen for another's rage or to start up something but hte GOing Merry's death was just pointless.
-
If Merry isn't dead it makes all of Usopp's development this arc is useless.
-
not exactly. The ship wasn't the only reason Ussop even left the SH crew. It was the fact that he felt weak was the reason he left. Don't think that it was only cause of the ship, the ship was part of it, but not all of it. Notice how nobody's agreeing? I think its because Oda made it seem so impossible for people to understand that when it does happen, people will freak out and start talking about their old theories to what happened.
-
well didn't oda said that someone's gonna leave the crew? if so then obviously it's the going merry ? Oo
-
I don't really think there's much of a chance that Going Merry is intact with the structure it once had. It's been destroyed completely by Aqua Laguna. Because you never saw it on a roof when it happened so obviously it got hit and destroyed. Although I don't remember Kaku setting it on fire and pushing it into the sea.
-
actually I came to an agreement in another topic about it. Eh, don't worry, I got the understanding of it and all. But actually your forgetting that Ussop left the crew, so when ODa said someone's leaving the crew -sneazes- Ussop.
-
didnt he said definitely? ^^
-
the Klaubattermann appeared so that the strawhats could get off sky island and go to the next island safely. when they got to water 7 the going merry was officially dead. the strawhats need a new bigger ship if they are going to be fighting buster calls and other marines and their ships they can't get by forever on going merry. also if franky joins the ship is going to be really cramped up.
-
Merry coming back at this point would be REALLY bad. IMO much worse than Pell's incident.
-
Going Merry has passed on. It is sad, but it will be remembered. I'm sure, on the new ship they will have some token, or some memorial of their last great ship. It might help bring Usopp and Luffy back together, by showing Usopp that Luffy did indeed care about the ship by remembering it dearly.
-
I hope Merry is dead so Usopp will stop trying to have sex with it
-
I think the whole point was that the true spirit of the Merry (Klabautermann) would transfer to whatever new ship the strawhats commandered.
-
Was it? I thought the klabuwhatever was supposed to be the soul of the ship, and each ship had its own soul.
-
I believe you are correct Aldrich, each ship is supposed to have it's own soul (klabauterman).
Anyways, Going Merry Gou is officially dead IMO. I honestly hope we never see it again (unless via flashback).
The SHs need a new, bigger, more powerful ship.
-
Its dead already and remember the song FLY MERRY FLY? its the song where usopp says
"Thank you, Merry,
The ship that flew through the sky.
We won't forget you, Merry,
I'll always think of you with pride."So, he's saying goodbye!

transfer= reincarnation.

Iceberg and Franky don't have heart?
-
then what reason did Franky have to go and attack Straw Hat Luffy? Because?…...Luffy destroyed his home and attacked his bros....I would think he had a heart. Iceburg...I don't know about him though....he seems heartless...more then Franky. And then why is Franky going through so much trouble to go and get Robin? If he dind't have a heart, he wouldn't even try.
-
I'm sticking with the theory I had back when Kaku tossed Going Merry out of the warehouse. Merry will return to help the crew somehow and give them all a proper goodbye. We never saw any wreckage which could be definatively IDed as Merry. I don't think Oda introduced the Klabautermann just to kill it right after. The Strawhats will get a new ship, but I still don't believe that uneventful, forgetable death scene was the last we will see of Merry.

I think the best we'll see is a piece of the ship back in W7 - possibly as a part of the new ship. Most likely it'll be Luffy's special seat, IF we see anything like that at all. I find it really doubtful, though.
-
Well to be perfectly honest I think it'd seem really corny if the Merry came back in any other way except in a new model (as in someone builds one that looks like the Merry).
I say Galley-La give the SH (including Franky- even though I rather Paulie join) a new ship before they leave Water 7 (assuming we do head back to Water 7 after the Enies Lobby/WG fiasco….that or FF give them a ship and Paulie joins XD
Galley-La and FF have a heart, I think that the SH (Usopp mainly) were just upset because they thought they were supposed to be these great shipwrights but they still can't fix the Going Merry...still...really they just couldn't.
So yeah...I think a new ship is definetly in order, but it may have similar aspects to Merry, like the bow (..I am so bad with ship parts..Luffy's favourite seat in other word).
-
I was under the impression that Franky used the 200 million beli to upgrade himself. He has said a couple times that he is much stronger today. It's still possible though that there's another reason he's saying that though. And like everyone has said, he's building some amazing boat off somewhere else. But I don't think that 200 million will play much of a role at this point. Either Franky used it to make a ship, or Iceberg will be making a new ship for the SH while they're in EL for saving his life.
-
We'll have Going Jolly (aka. Battle Franky 39) <3
Wishful thinking, I know.
-
i never saw it set on fire…. hmm....just face it, merry is dead. Time for a new ship! wohoo!
you souless creature! XD
Onto the ship: If they do get another ship take the head and attach it to the new ship.(if they can find the Going Merry) Or something like that.
EDIT: I had an idea…..what if they built a ship in a ship. The Going Merry in another ship?
-
I had an idea…..what if they built a ship in a ship. The Going Merry in another ship?
Sounds redundant, pointless and just extra weight.
-
wait…I have an idea. If Franky went to build a ship with that 200 mill? think about it? The SHs were planning on building a ship with the money anyways and if Franky joins the SHs and he got the ship....wouldn't that mean that they really didn't waste it or lose that money?
-
i think most people on these forums and usopp too, need to get over the whole merry thing, whether anyone likes it or not, it's just a ship.
in fact is usopp loved it so muhc then why didn't he learn how to be a proper shipwright instead of doing the shitty bodgejobs?
i personally can't wait to see this ship as a memory.
-
It's not as if someone can just decide and learn to become a decent shipwright over a few months. That's ridiculous. But I think that most people HAVE let go of the ship, it's just a few people who are still trying to propose some theories on alternatives. But just telling people "get over it" is also mean spirited, when you know that a lot of people really consider the Merry to be like a character on the show. If you never had any attachment to it, good for you, but say that about somebody's beloved pet sometime and you might get socked.;-)
-
Cosmic, you're right. apologies folks, i was insensitive.
-
-sob- I feel so abused…hehe yeah well that's what I felt.
People go into denial, thinking that everything will be okay and it never really happened. Ussop was thinking that the ship could be fixed even if the keel was broken. Somehow the spirit will just push on and on like Ghommara did when he pushed onward towards the courthouse.

i agree, the special seat will maybe be built into the new ship. who knows thsi is all speculation

Yosh! The return of the special seat! Whoo-hoo!
As a side note, anyone think they'll name the new ship "Going Merry II" or have the name be a nod to the original ship?

Hmm…..If luffy will be the one gonna name the ship...I am thinking "GOING MERRY MACH 2!" XD
-

Nah, Luffy (if he names it by himself) will name it something meat related. But I think the crew as a whole would eventually decide on something akin to Going Merry II or something with "Going" or "Merry" in the title. I think I've seen the term "Battle Merry" floating around.
-
I doubt there will be anything in the name that points to Going Merry. They respected the ship as it was, and they'll love their new ship for what it is. Going Merry is gone, and I think the crew accepts that. To me, naming the new ship after the old ship would suggest that the Straw Hats can't let go of the Going Merry and are clinging on to the memories through the futile attempt of naming the new ship after the old one. It would be like having a pet that died, then getting a new pet and naming it the same as the old one. You do it because you can't come to terms with the loss of your old pet, but the new pet will never be exactly like the old pet, and the whole thing just becomes sad.

The Straw Hats, other than Usopp, are not the types to spend the rest of their lives still sulking around about the ship. They all came to terms with the fact that ship's unfixable and have moved on…
and anyway, the Going Merry is the LEAST of their problems right now...

Umm….That's what I said? Which is why I don't think "Going" nor "Merry" will be in the new ship's name.
-
your wrong at this moment, Master O. lol
Right now they are in need of a ship and it could be any ship but if they were to have Going Merry right now, the way of getting off would be much easier and since the Sea Train is destroyed (The one they used) they'll most likely use the other to get off or Franky will just pop up and pull out a giant ship from behind Enis Lobby like magic.
-
I'm sorry but….Oda knows after such a thing not to bring Merry back. I do however see the Mugiwara's finding pieces of marry like the sheep head and stuff and Merry still being alive in those pieces.
They will then mount those pieces into their new ship.
Kinda like how the Iron Giant was blown up then we saw it still alive in pieces at the end of The Iron Giant.

Isn't he going to use the escort ship to escape?
Problem solved.
Besides, if the Merry was at Enies Lobby at this point it'd probably be the first thing to get blown up, I mean, it has the Straw Hat emblem on it.
-
It would be hilarious if the Klabautermann ended up being a musician.
Oh and just in case those extra remains of ships are probably Merry's, because we saw them in chapter 358 page 11. Well they sort of resemble as opposed to being straight up the exact same. For me, I'm not going to get all disappointed or lose faith/interest in the manga if the Going Merry makes another appearance.
