Riki was definitely the character i used the least. Reyn was my favourite character and he makes the beginning so much easier than if you use shulk
Xenoblade Chronicles
-
-
Riki's insanely good. IIRC all of his attacks stack and become lethal over time.
I mainly used Shulk and towards end game Riki and final party member
-
I rotate a lot, to keep the little faces as happy as possible. Even if it will hurt me in the gem crafting.
There should be a stop button, or a way to limit the chances, or stop everyone from pitching in, I'm tired of going 7th - Riki with like 5 cilinders under 30% and getting gems.
-
You can switch which character you play as? That seems interesting. How would you do that?
-
you do in the party option. whoever's at front you play as. It will tell you how
-
The option isn't available from the start. The game will explicitly point out when you can though.~ Ugh, I wanna plaaaaaaay. : - (
-
What I will advise people to do is to use some of the items to gift to other people to raise their friendship. I think one quest requires high friendship between Shulk and Reyn and another with Sharla and Melia. And try and collect more than enough items to fill up the data book.
-
Shulk and Reyn were no problem, but I had to use the Lava Cave trick for Sharla and Melia since they need MAX. :(
-
2 complains with the game:
- No "Optimize equipment", save armor set, or some frustration reduction features in the menues
- The game should had a "No cosmetic change with armor" option, sometimes I rather keep on using dated armor than the mismatch monster that I sometimes had to use, like Shulk with the Jungle top, Beach Bottoms, Stelar Helmet, Battle boots, and as the game keeps the flashbacks with the equipment that you were using, and I was using THAT in one important moment, I had to watch it again.
It's a fun and powerfull tool, but I wish that I could turn it off if my characters look like clowns because I don't have full armor sets.
-
I finished it but there's a lot of shit left to do, I probably will do Riki's, Reyn's and 7th's skill tree, the heart to heart left and move on.
It was a fun, 130 hour ride.

Maybe listen to the party battle rants, those are usualy hilarious.
My complains are mostly related to menus:
- If you are going to do and mark the quest collectables (thanks to the visions), go ahead and mark them all (as some of them weren't marked, I sold all of my loot except quest, but there were a lot of unmarked ones), specialy if they will become super rare (and expensive, stupid Energy Alubmine), and if you make most enemies drop unique vendor trash. I trashed Refined Part L instead of Clear Torta Soup in the fake asumption that the later one was more relevant as it came from a Boss.
- Bestiary: You have hundreds of diferent monster (not really, they are like 50 different models, still a lot), let me have a list, I'll kill every bastard, as many times needed to get all the loot info revealed, but how I'm supposed to remeber that the crazy mandril monsters of Bionis Leg are the Sloth Gogol?
- My complains about equip and armor style still hold, going throught the inventary to upgrade equipment was an unhappy chore.
- Something to do with the hundreds of subpar gems that failed to reach the desired mark (other than selling), maybe return of half of the material lost creating it.
- The ability to use the quest compass in quest, or at least in order to find the npcs!
- The ability to do multi trade (I want 10 Refined Parts Large? here are 10 items of the same or greater price!), not opening the dialog 10 times to do it.
- The "Machina are invincible!" thing gets old once you are like 30 levels above them, remove the "ONE!" cap once you are strong enough.
- The Heart to Heart moments should have been voiced, it would have been a nice touch.
- The rebuild colony six parts should have been in the quest list, it was anoying to have to go back and realize that it wasn't Drizzle Element that was needed but Squall Element.
Things that I loved:
- The characters
- The Seting (The world is 2 Titans locked in combat and you are of the relative size of fleas, how INCREDIBLE is that)
- The plotwists
- The streamlinning of the quest (other than locating your npc) for the most part were easy to understand and hard to do, with good rewards.
- Fast travel and hour change
- Party battle quotes "Heropon and Herohom save the day!"
The complains as anoying as they were, didn't stop me from enjoying the game. I won't go and play it again once I get every character development bit left, at least not in a long time, but it was a new a refreshing experience.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
And now, My plot related Grievances!
! - Lack of variety of the "Faces": This is more of gameplay, but I wish that they had used something other than mass produced Bronze Faces for everything not requiring a main face.
- Lack of resolution of the High Entia Child who was training with the Imperial Guard, his mother, his other teacher and the girl who called him "brother", other than the father, the imperial guard, and the mother and daughter I don't think that the other NPCs get closure (the pair of scientists, and Rozeal's best friend)
- No hint of the Sergeant of Colony 9 surviving the initial attack for around 70 game hours, even if I managed to solve every issue of the damn place (maybe generic guard #23 had that dialog)
- The criminals (Zazadan,Dedeba and King Squeeze) total dissapareance after they are dealt with, at least Bana is doing his community service.
- The whole "I won't kill Mumkar because he's the same as Fiora" thing, I don't buy it, I don't care, Mumkar should have died by their blade or brought to the autorities, not given the chance to day that he was given.
- After the one above, forgiving Egil was easier to swallow, as Batman Refusing to kill Mr. Frezze after doing the same with the Joker, but even though, the machine killed thousands of Bionis and not a slap on the hand after, he was forgiven!
- The lack of hints about the fate of colonies not 9 or 6, not even a lousy ruin around the leg.
-
So has… anyone else ordered this online with Gamestop and not had it come yet? Mine said it shipped on Thursday of last week and still nothing.
-
Part 2? An MMO?
-
Last Specter was alright but Azran Legacy was super disappointing. They tried to do something new with the gameplay in regards to player choice but it ultimately hurt the story which is a shame.
Really now? Damn, isn't that the last one of the prequel trilogy?
Also Xenoblade seems pretty fun so far, I'm still getting used to combat. Only completed the first battle with Shulk and Reyn, since my 3DS was about to die.

Just remember to don't spam arts endlessly, since they deal more damage than auto attacks, so you would get the aggro ring and take all the enemy hits and kinda lie on the ground after that.
Many people did that in the original, and kept dying and blaming the game for their incompetence when there were bosses and hard fights

Good to know! The aggro ring would probably become more of a concern when I see more enemies and/or get a bigger party.
Also I love the voice acting, it's so captivating.
-
The voice acting is great. Xenoblade chronicles was a great game and i'm glad more people get to experience it now
-
Also because some people are experiencing it for the first time like me, I will use spoiler tags for anything huge.
-
So, just watched the Xenoblade X mech and online video that was streamed earlier, and holy fuck it looks even more amazing than it did before. Highly customizable mechs should be really fun
-

Get ready for a lot of them then. I just hope that smash 4 or other sources didn't spoil you anything :(

Uh….I think a little bit, but I don't remember the details. I'm always late to the party, as I got spoiled for Awakening by Youtube and slightly spoiled for Uprising with Smash 4 trophies.
But for the most part, Xenoblade will be blind.

That's good for xenoblade. I went in super blind, didn't even know how it played, and it was amazing.
Reyn was easily my favourite character. It's reyn time!

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D comes out tomorrow…..can't wait!
Anyone else gonna get it?
Probably not until December or next year
-
After watching the Xenoblade direct today I feel that the 300 hours will be an understatement.
There just seems to be sooo many things to do.
It's insane how much has been shown about this game and yet we basically still know nothing about the game.

I was thinknig of getting it, but decided to save my money by not buying a New 3DS and Xenoblade 3DS and instead use that for PC upgrades. Witcher 3 just looks too damn good.
I'll just play Xenoblade on my Wii.

Anyone else gonna get it?I already own the Wii version… but once Nintendo of America wises up and lets me buy a standard, non-XL New 3DS, I may reward them and double-dip.
Maybe. Depends on how long they make me wait and how many other ass-backwards decisions they make in the interim.

Should we make a Xenoblade series thread, or should I stick to posting thoughts here? (if there's one to bump whoops I missed it)
Anyways….woof. I've had some time to digest how battles play out, and I do like the fast pacing. I prefer real-time RPGs to turn-based, and it really helps that most of the time, you can choose if you want to fight at all! Characters auto-attacking is good, but I personally would've preferred attack control over the party leader, who you control yourself.
You certainly need to pay attention to your positioning and movement, and spamming Back Slash or whatever will not help you at all. I feel as if I'm not quite there yet, but some battles will really force me to make every move count.
I do admit that the world of Xenoblade is....overwhelming. It's huge! I did accept a couple of side quests, but it's a little hairy, considering I'm barely familiar with the silver of Colony 9 uncovered (up to the caves with Reyn and Fiora now). Warping from landmark to landmark will definitely come in handy. Getting experience from discovering them is quite unique and kinda cool.
Glad you're not limited to just Shulk. I switched to Fiora at my last save, I'll see how she is.
And there's a bunch of character customization options that again, are kinda overwhelming for someone who doesn't frequent RPGs, but at the same time, this game will easily take me a while to complete. It does not help I still have games in my backlog.

The auto attack thing you will not even notice later on. You will have so many attacks and trying to position yourself or doing certain attacks in a certain order that auto-attacks are just things that happen while you thinking or planning.
If you still in Colony 9 you have like a 1/20th of the battle apsect down. Later when you have more moves, and combos, visions, topples, spikes, ect you will be way to absorbed to even notice auto attacking.

If you say this just by exploring Colony 9 oh man, that's like the 3rd smallest area of the game

Seeing how much commentary there is so far from what is pretty much the very tip of the iceberg, I think a Xenoblade Series thread wouldn't be a bad idea. Especially since Xenoblade Chronicles X information is pretty abundant as well and that's on the horizon.
-
There was a xenoblade chronicles thread at some point. I remember discussing the ending with people here. Maybe it was combined as a project rainfall thread? This would've been almost 4 years ago now

Oh boy, how they were wrong about this game at the beggining.
-
My fault for not searching, but at least I didn't make a brand new one. :P
New thoughts
! Dat feeling when you hear You Will Know Our Names <33333
! Tefton(sp?) Caves has such good music, naturally I would expect nothing less from Ms. Yoko Shimomura (although she didn't compose alone). But now I've seen where things might get a little difficult. The first monster to occur the famous Xenoblade theme is at level 9, and I can't beat it. I got close, but…
! And the Ancient Machines at the ether stations. I lost using Fiora, using Reyn....I stuck to Shulk and got a little closer (took down one), but I always lose just before I can take down the others. I suppose I need to grind a little bit.
! Also being able to warp to landmarks in seconds? VERY USEFUL. I was walking and fell off the cliffs near the station into the water, and it would be a backtracking nightmare to go back on foot. I like the little achievements you can get.
! And again, man are the accents so damn charming. Fiora, Shulk, Reyn...all of them. -
It's great to see new people getting into Xenoblade, and a livelier discussion will occur.
Oh boy, how they were wrong about this game at the beggining.
Makes me sad to see how some of them were quick to lose interest when they found out that the computer controls the other characters in battle. :(
Another handy thing to know is that you probably shouldn't go out of your way to finish every sidequest. Some of them are just small tedious things that don't really have a story to them and have somewhat small rewards.
Once you've spent hours in the game, you'll start to pick up on what quests are really worth your time or not.
-
Also it's worth noting that some quests are just not possible until new game + unless you spend a stupid amount of time grinding
-
Well the Monado is my possession.
! I saw it when you controlled Dunban at the very beginning, but it's great than it can allow your team to attack Mechons. But aren't they the main foe of the game? Either more characters will have to take advantage of break -> topple or there's another way to wrack up damage, because IIRC you get 8 characters in the end. The game allows you to switch leaders at any time, so why would the 3 man team always have to have Shulk?
! also….nooo....Fiora died? But I was enjoying the group dynamic she had with Shulk and Reyn.....her voice was so charming....:(
! It can't be the last of her, right? I only had control of her for like, an hour. :((((
! Metal Face has appeared as well. Considering Smash 4 calls him as such, I assume him talking isn't supposed to be a major spoiler? But....I already have an idea on who the guy sounds like..... -

Fiora's death at the begining of the game instead of Dunban is what sold me on Xenoblade. I was so confident that it would play out with Dunban as the big hero of the war, and having a connection with shulk, would be killed off causing Shulk to take his place with reyn and fiora. Having it pull the rug from under my feet like that greatly impressed me. You are probably correct on who metal face sounds like, i think his voice is a bit of a spoiler but it is an incredibly minor one in the grand scheme of things. So i take it you just left colony 9 then?
-

! It did seem like Dunban was going to have this final stand during the attack, then passing the Monado onto Shulk in his death…..so the game already threw me for a loop. Shulk did have the vision that Metal Face was going to do her in, so I was watching, very tense, thinking:
! "oh man will the Monado teleport Shulk there in time or something? Fiora can't die!"
! But yes, I did just leave Colony 9. I blame Smash 4, but I believe the line-up is: Shulk, Reyn, Fiora (or not??), Dunban, medic girl, Riki, and some princess. I assume that's the order they will appear. -
It's also worth noting how Dunban = Shanks:
- lost an arm
- black cape
- inspiration for Shulk
- cool swordsman
And Dickson use guns and smokes just like Benn Beckman
-
Holy cow, I wasn't the only one thinking that? XD
-
I was also thinking Dunban was similar to shanks when I played. It made me like him a bit more.
-
I thought that as well. It doesn't help that he has the cape over his arm to hide it like shanks (although dunban doesn't actually lose his arm, just it's use).
-
Aww man, the boss of the caves is no joke, and the amount of grunts make it all the more overwhelming.
You guys weren't kidding when you said the battle system gets tricker, now I have to work with the shield art and "warning" teammates…
-
! I defeated the Arachno Queen (after grinding Shulk and Reyn to level 14 or so.
! Now I can see the great Gaur Plains….I heard this is where high-level enemies could trap you? -

I was in the middle of a fight and a giant creature snuck up on us (lvl. 78) and just demolished my party…
I'll leave it up to you to find them yourself :)
-
3 of the 7 playable characters are women for pete's sake.
-
Shouldn't people play more than 15 mins of a game before trying to to label it like that? You end up just looking like an idiot otherwise
-
I don't understand. There's women and men in Xenoblade, and you control men (Shulk, Reyn, Dunban, Riki) and women (Fiora, Sharla, and Melia).
I never got the impression all the women got wiped out or anything, because…y'know, Fiora appearing a few minutes in.
! Oh yeah, Sharla joined the team. I'm worried we won't be able to save Juju, I don't want to Shulk to fail at his visions again :(
