There's a reason I love this man, no matter how bad Bleach gets. he's the only one who can get away with talking nonsense for half a chapter.
I actually found this chapter enjoyable, although probably not for the reasons Kubo intended. It's annoying that dozens of chapter's content was undone, but this is a much more fun way to go about it. Bazz-B is pretty boring, but weirdo zombie pervert and mouth-girl have some personality and originality, at least.

I liked the chapter overall except for the last part. It really is just padding by every chapter having something happen to make you think progress will be made, then something else happens. Next chapters will be:
They are ready to go, but Grimmjow comes and kills the quincy and speaks his mind
Fullbringers come and take out Grimmjow and name their terms
Aizen comes back and challenges Mayuri, but Nanana isn't down yet, so he's takes Aizen on.
Chair becomes main character and beats everyone in one chapter, thus Bleach ends on a high note.
Bazz b or whatever his name is, is cute as fuck.

I believe the only thing I am still curious about in Bleach (aside from minor things like Shikai that remain unrevealed) is Mayuri's past.
He has story with Shutara, was locked down in Maggot's Nest in TBtP… there is a lot about this guy to be told and now we find out he is behind the technology used to keep the prisoners in Muken under control - this is important: not just Aizen, but everyone down there! This guy must be old as hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out he is one of the very old school characters like Unohana and Zaraki.

Well, nowhere is it mentioned that Muken had that technology since it's very beginnings. He might have implemented some of his inventions after becoming head of Science Division.
This technology is what prevented Aizen from busting out of there. I assume the others prisoners would have done that as well if there wasn't a way to keep them down and the Muken doesn't look like something that is around for just 100 years.
I think Aizen is far more dangerous than any other prisoner there. Just because he could have escaped if it weren't for Mayuri's invention, doesn't mean other prisoners there required same protective measures. And it's very likely Muken didn't have all the safety measures it has now from the very beginning. Science Division wasn't established for nothing.

They will get 2-3 pages of panel time in the next chapter. Then we won't see them again until they confront Yhwach - only for them to be killed, which we somehow have to care about. Then it is revealed later that the mohawk guy survived.

Jesus christ, the incompetence of Kubo continues to be staggering. Five pages, FIVE to establish something Oda could have done in one panel.

You can expect at least three more obstacles to appear before the group goes to the palace, all of them Kubo will use as an excuse to make other groups join them (Grimmjow & Arrancar, Ginjou & Fullbringers, Tessai & Store Staff).

Hikifune came before the institute and she devised a way to make artificial souls. At least to me this sounds much bigger than anything both Urahara and Mayuri presented thus far as the presidents of the Science Institute (no surprise, afterall it got her a promotion to the Royal Guard), so I wouldn't underestimate the technology prowess of the Soul Society before the institute was created.
It should be noted that it wasn't Mayuri who went after Urahara once he found out he was going to create the institute, but the opposite, meaning that Mayuri's scientific genious was already known. Urahara deemed it so necessary he even got Mayuri out of the Maggot's Nest so he could have this man on his side (and Mayuri was even kept on his own cell, a sign of how much the Central 46 saw him as a potential danger). You don't get this kind of recognition without doing something big - even if he isn't behind Muken since the start, at least something else big he did and long ago.
He got a past with Shutara and we know it is a "science related past", what just adds to him being a big and very old name - remember Shutara is most likely the one behind the scale that measures the balance between dimensions and is used mainly to judge the impact of the quincy actions, including in the war against them 300 years ago.
Since the start we were made to believe Mayuri was Urahara's junior, but after how this arc is handling him, I can't see it like that. Right now Mayuri strikes me as the famous old senior, while Urahara is the young prodigious junior (and that would explain why Mayuri gets so infuriated when he is compared to and surpassed by Urahara). So, again, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kubo revealed Mayuri is one of the oldes guys around.

All Aushwahlen does is weaken afflicted, it doesn't completely strip them of their powers. Masaki still had her powers after Yhwach used it the first time, she was just too weak at that point to kill Grand Fisher.

It's not that the information isn't important, Aizen not being able to use his full abilities is an important piece of information, it's that we did not need FIVE STRAIGHT PAGES to hammer this point. It adds nothing to stretch it out that long, the information could have been given with far less space. It's just time being wasted with lots of filler pages.

I'm a bit conflicted on how things went down this chapter. We had a character that was built up that went to nothing (Nanana). However, by taking care of him quickly and the others joining the Shinigami for a short time, we don't have to worry about things dragging more, and hopefully more can be focused on the later fights. I'll chalk it up to a good thing overall.

Dressrosa's problem is it has too much information and it's taking a lot of time to get through all of it. The material itself is being blazed through as quickly as possible without being sloppy and rushed. That's the opposite of what Kubo is doing which is taking one idea and stretching it to ungodly long amounts.
I'm just sad Aizen didn't drop the palace. That would make things less complicated.
The fact that the quinzi war is reaching 150 chapters in lenght speaks for itself (for both how long it is, and how much actually happened in it to justify its lenght)

Thanks, TLC. Those made my day. The vice-versa version still doesn't flow right, but the effort is commendable. Bleach is just too special to be converted into general panel layouting.
One thing that's still bugging me. I wonder if we'll ever receive any explanation as to how the Quinzis steal Bankai? It just seemed like overly convenient method for handicapping the good guys and pretty much out of nowhere.

You literally said there's nothing informative there, so I'm going to poke a hole in that. If you think Leo finding catharsis in the fact that he has a gut feeling that Trebol has been defeated/seriously wounded is not somewhat important/informative, then you and I share very different ideas about what padding is. It's called flavor. That page definitely added something to the momentum of the chapter.
I'm not an Oda apologist or fanboy, nor do I think he's perfect.
This is the first Bleach chapter I've read in a while, and I'm not going to act like I know everything about it - mostly because it's horrendously stupid and I don't bother - but I do feel that Kubo's art has become fatally dull. The first four - four - pages are obstructed by, guess what, a giant white explosion. You mentioned "padding"? I think it fits quite well here.
Then the character designs. Mayuri's is his most uninspired, white design yet (just look at mangastream page 8 panel 5, so lazy). The other characters mostly have distinguishing features that are clothing/hair accessories. Kyouraku looks good, I will say that. Other than that, dude…
That's just the art. I don't care about anything that is going on because the art is so uninspired, so I have no desire to trudge back through the series to find out what's happening.
I appreciate your ability to be able to find some value in Bleach at this point, I really do. With its declining popularity, cancelled anime, and plunge into the forgettable, it takes a lot of effort to extract value from it.

That's not padding at all. It's a callback.
I'm glad he didn't do it because it would have made the Soul Reapers' efforts over the the last six or seven chapters even more pointless than what actually happened already did.
Their efforts were pointless anyway, since Ukitake died, Ichigo and the others were pawned and Aizen destroyed the reiatsu circle they made to get to the palace.
Just saying, better to kill the wounded animal sooner so it doesn't suffer any more.

Apparently it's because Bleach has a lot shock, suspense and transformation moments that require more emphasis to be put in, hence the extreme zoom-ins.

A transformation is going on lets view it from a satelite. then lets zoom in to see the persons foot/eye etc because its so important and we need to emphasis whats not different :ninja:
On a serius note anybody rememebers Renjis first appearance, after Aizen was beaten, How Kubo made a point how strong he became in case Aizen was ever set free and now for the past i dont even know how many chapters they all have problems gathering some reatsu because they need more ppl while Aizen could do that alone if it wasnt for the chair lol
The real sin of this chapter is that it once again shows that Kubo is the undisputed master of negating his own cliffhangers.
Last week the chapter ends with "Aizens gonna get them all to the Kings Palace, Urahara was pointless lol, get hype for AIZEN!", and now, we get an immediate reversion to the old status quo; "Derp, turns out Aizen can't get them to the palace, guess we'll have to rely on Urahara anyway" AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T LEFT. They've been standing around talking about getting to the palace for 12 chapters- since friggin January! Its the equivalent of watching people being stuck in a departure lounge due to constant delays, and the speakers occasionally going "ladies and gentlemen, we think we've finally fixed the- hang on, sorry, false alarm"
