@Darth:
… Because Oda won't let it go either.
And you know what, go question people in Bleach thread.
And will you stop? I'm not going after something that happened years ago, chapter came out yesterday! If you have the arguments that make this chapter excellent in your opinion, despite the obvious flaws, give them, instead of token "Just stop complaining!". I'm not interested in that. I'm interested in valuable discussion, and you are not providing it.
Jesus fucking Christ man, your level of pedantic nitpicking has descended into some really frickin' petty levels. I really did not want to tussle with you because I would only succeed in replicating what bashing my head against a wall would feel like but you've just gotten ridiculous with your bullshit.
You're bitching about how nobody dies in One Piece? Really? No? I never noticed! It's almost like it's a fucking pattern or something. And you're bitching about this…now? Now, after SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY chapters? Now, it's a problem? Now, this one time is somehow different from the billion other times its happened? Not with Pell or Prince Fukaboshi or Bon Kurei or Wiper and his comrades or Iceberg or Spandam or Bellamy or fucking Zoro! NOW, it's a problem? And I'm not going to say that these not-deaths don't have their varying levels of sucktitude but the way you keep harping on and on about it makes me think you've never read One Piece before in your life.
This is how the series works, it's not about the body count, it's about the presentation of danger. Because yes, even though I know Law is going to live, the brutality of what he's going through is enough to sweep me away and make me question that maybe he won't. I KNOW he will live but the earnestness and sincerity of how Oda is presenting the suffering this man has gone through to accomplish his goal is more than enough to allow me to get into the story and action and relate with the character's plight. It's like wrestling, you KNOW it's fake, you allow yourself to get swept up and pretend it's real because they try so hard to make you think so. If you can't do that, that's fine, but after 780 chapters and you're still around, that's not a problem of the series, THAT'S ON YOU. Because it's your own damn fault for taking this freakin' long to figure out how the pattern works. And it doesn't matter how much you keep insisting that this time is somehow more special or plot relevant than previous times, it's not. Wiper, Pell, Bon Kurei (twice), fuck Monet and Vergo are probably still alive, no this is not special in any way shape or form (Hell, at least Oda foreshadowed a recovery method with Law which is more than most characters get). The only thing special about it is how you keep obsessing over it like it's anything goddamn special.
No, no one dies, sorry that's how it is. Ace and Whitebeard are the exception to the rule and no one else is going to die for the rest of the series other than Shanks. If you can't accept this, drop the series now, and save us a bunch of headaches. Otherwise, stop fucking rubbing in our faces shit everybody already knows.
No one dies in One Piece? No fucking shit, Sherlock!
